I am a Sprint Hero user looking for a phone for my dad who is on Cellular South. He needs a device with a hardware keyboard and these are the ones listed that fit his needs:
LG Axis
Motorola Milestone
BlackBerry Bold
I suggested he get a android. He will not be rooting it etc. Just a regular user. In regards to the Androids, would you suggest the LG Axis or the Motorola Milestone? I am guessing the Milestone is exactly the same as the Motorola Droid? I can't find the LG Axis on phonescoop.com so was just wondering what others would suggest would be a better device? He knows how to use a BlackBerry but I'd rather him get a android device just because of how much more it can do in regards to apps etc.

I have a Moto Q(8) from Sprint and I would like to do Motorola's (and Sprint's) job for them and get WM6.1 on my phone. On this forum, I've only found one working update, but it is for GSMA based phones. So, is there a way to port a Sprint Moto Q9c ROM to my Sprint Moto Q(8). If so, then can someone please tell me all the steps, as I'm very new to the whole mobile platform.

because you have no motoQ8 your motoq only is CDMA BLACK
Its time for me to find a new phone. Ive gone through three first gen MotoQ over the last few years and this last one is finally starting to fall apart which is quite amazing since it was announced five years ago (if it isnt broke dont fix it, and if it breaks fix it!). I've been a MetroPCS customer going on six years now and have no intention of switching providers
Help me find a phone with the following requirements -
Android OR Windows Mobile 6+
Able to be modified for MetroPCS
A full keyboard (can be a slider, flip or front facing keyboard like the MotoQ)
Price under 200$ new or used
Some nice features to have but not required would be -
Charges through standard mini usb
Extended life batteries (or brand new original batteries) available
Some type of tethering solution (currently i do this through USB)
I don't mind if the phone is old, even a model from four years ago if it works well
I am in the San Francisco bay area (LTE is available)
I often use my MotoQ to send MMS and the Google Maps application even though the speed is very slow (perhaps because of my device?).
Three times I have paid someone to add the "foreign" ESN of my phones into the MetroPCS database so it would be a definite plus (not a requirement) if the phone had the ability to directly take over for my current MotoQ without the extra fees (electronic serial number change).
You dont have to give me all the details on how to hack the phone onto metro, if you give me a model number I will do my own homework.
My girlfriend insists on getting me a phone for my birthday. I think she is tired of seeing me carry around this ratty old phone that no one still uses.
Thanks for your suggestions
Based on all your needs, the best fit would be a Sprint HTC Touch Pro 2 (Rhodium). It also runs Android now, as well as WM 6.1/6.5.
I have little experience with CDMA, but from what I understand most devices whether they have a good or a bad ESN can be flashed for any carrier other than the original. I haven't seen any CDMA Rhodiums for sale here on the forums, but you could always try eBay. They're pretty cheap these days too
Good Luck!
Thanks for the quick reply. I will have to look into that model more but so far it does seem to do what I wanted!
I was starting to lean towards the Moto Droid 2. Apparently it is not too difficult to get it functioning properly on MetroPCS and it has decent specs. The price for used models isnt bad and its running 2.2 android stock, with a 2.3.3 hack available

Also true, with the added benefit that if you ever move away from CDMA, you'll have a GSM radio in there too. I can only speak for the original Milestone, but it was a capable little phone at the time. They reworked the keyboard on the second one, so it seems to be much more user-friendly. I'm not sure how much luck they had with the bootloader on it though, so would pay to do some research there before you buy
I am looking to upgrade my trusty ole BB 9700.
I would like an Android phone but I love the "downward" keyboard Blackberry style, not the side sliders (like HTC G2, MyTouch4g, etc).
Technically a Dell Venue Pro or a Blackberry Torch would work but no Android there, and the Motorola Droid Pro is CDMA only (correct ?).
I need it to be compatible with TMobile US also so I can get 3g or 4g data.
What's out there ?

You can buy the world edition of the Droid pro. Otherwise, the only other one I know of is the Motorola Charm.
Hi Everyone
I am giving up my $190 iphone bill (2 lines of service) for a cricket android phone.
need an android phone.
My choices are of course:
Sanyo Zio
Hauwai Ascend
LG Optimus C
Can the optimus be rooted? I mean, its a new phone but take on OLD model...
I just want a nice screen and decent speed for the phone.
Rooting the phone is fine, I can do that.
The best screen appears to be the Zio, but the best HARDWARE is the LG.
Which one will be the best after the 2.2-1 android update? The zio and Optimus alreadyu have that update, and you can root the Ascend to get it if you want.
Can you root the optimus be rooted?
I am sure the zio can.
DOH!
I just saw that the zio has no multitouch interface.
i have a samsung fascinate on cricket. you can also get a droid x or any other verizon or sprint android to work on cricket. and they all are better than the cricket choices. look on craigslist, or get a bad ESN one from Ebay, then flash it to cricket, the process is not that hard. and its on this forum
i have an epic on cricket... in the past i heard thehy shut down data for a week for flashed phones.. and anyway now my epic won't get incoming calls (routed to voicemail) and it says restricted on other peoples incoming screens when i call... seems like a roaming issue.. i'm about to probably just go buy an optimus c
I love my Incredible on Cricket Everything works 2 including MMS. UR best bet is 2 get a phone that isn't Cricket & make it Cricket. Lets face it... Cricket's phones suck
I'm on T-mobile and have used the LG G2x for quite a long time now and it really sucks even after trying out so many different roms including CM7. I can't afford something great like the S5 so the Moto G and S3 (a refurbished one from eBay) seem like decent choices for me. I know the Moto G is newer and might be getting the Android L update so it seems like a greater choice. Plus I would be ordering it from Motorola's site and getting the 4G LTE version with the microSD slot for about $219. The refurbished S3 on eBay is $224. I'd just like to know which seems like the better deal, pros and cons, and good support for rooting. Alternate phone suggestions are also welcome. Thanks
