[FIX] Reduce REDRAW time with launcherpro/ADW - G Tablet General

http://www.droidforums.net/forum/bugless/83838-fix-reduce-redraw-launcherpro-adw-credit-samsonite801.html
If you use ADW or LauncherPro and if after using your browser, email or any other apps for awhile, then if you press the 'HOME' button, if it takes forever to redraw your home screen, and you are sick of that HORRIBLE LAG, then try this: In a terminal,
type su and enter.
Then type echo ro.HOME_APP_ADJ=1 >> /data/local.prop and enter.
Then reboot.
Now evaluate whether or not this fixes your lag.
My home and app drawer draw so much faster now!!!
This was originally posted, on the Gtablet forums, here by raydog153 but its makes ADW Launcher so much better that it demands its own thread.

cool thanks

[Q] The application icons get jumbled

I am not sure if this is how android is designed to work. In the application launcher I have the view type set as 'customizable grid'. I rearranged the icons on to different pages to categorize them as per type of application. This left empty slots on pages which did not have enough icons to fit the complete page. All the changes were saved. Now if I power off my infuse and bring it up again I see that a lot of the icons do not stay where i fixed them before powering off. I would expect this setting or configuration to stay intact. Is it not supposed to work how I expect? Thanks for reading my post. My phone only has stock applications.
On a side note - Does android have capability of creating folders within the application launcher app. I know it can be done on the home screens.
i have a similar issue, it seems to be that applications that you pay for and have a free download with a pay key like rom manager on a reboot it loads the icon for the unlock key which disapears after you attemp to open it. it may be that the extra icon not being in the config file reapearing causes it to alter the configuration. i dont remember if this was always an issue and it minght be related to the modded launcher from gtg. try another twlauncher30 version. maybe one from the captivate/i9000 section, maybe the 5x4 app drawer version.

Keyboard lag "fix"

I just found this website with a fix for the keyboard lag in the stock browser:
smartadopter Wordpress -> TIP Improve Honeycomb Browser Speed
(I am new so not allowed to post outside links )
Basically it says:
1) as url type: about:debug
2) nothing will seem to happe.n BUT new menu options are available now
3) go to menu -> settings -> debug, and uncheck OpenGL Rendering
4) no more lag!
If this already floated around this forum, sorry. But if not, or for the people (like me) who missed it, enjoy!
I have not found any drawbacks of this fix. But if anybody find/knows any drawback/problem with this, please let me know.
Ill test this but im guessing scrolling speed will suffer as that uses the OpenGL.
Sent from my HTC Desire S using XDA App
Good advice. Will try it out now.
Tested and it works great. Scrolling is not affect either by this by the looks of it. Zooming works as well.
This fix isn't working. The input lag isn't gone completely, it's less noticeble, but it's still there.
And like someone mentioned before, scrolling isn's as smooth as before. Also YouTube videos don't work.
All this fix does is turn off hardware acceleration in the browser.
Some things get better, others get worse.
sassafras
Scrolling is not as smooth but I have no problems displaying YouTube movies.
But typing is a lot easier without (or with much less) lag.
So for me OpenGL rendering will stay off until the next update.
And lose my graphic acceleration? No thank you
No drawback?! Scolling looks like a freaking slideshow with that disabled ^^
Quick question for you guys... does the keyboard lag in Dolphin HD?
Not as much as the stock browser.

For me the drawback is very obvious ... scrolling through a thread in this forum is horribly slow without OpenGL. But the keybord works like a charm.
I think, I will stay with Opera for forums and use the stock browser for the rest with OpenGL switched on ... loading times in Opera are much slower.
Thanks for the tip though.
I notice objects on the page rendering with every swipe as I move down the page ...probably why scrolling is not as smooth.
Strangely the scrolling lag has disappeared. So now I have less typing lag and little scrolling lag.
So until the next update I am a happy camper.
The only lag in typing I have left has to do with the auto complete function of the on screen keyboard.
This warrants further study (in the words of someone famous) because I'm seeing the exact opposite effect.
I've gone back and forth between this site and another forum having a similar javascript textarea form, comparing text entry with the "Enable OpenGL Rendering" box checked and unchecked in the Debug menu. On both sites, text entry is WAAAY faster using the dock keyboard with the box CHECKED. This is using the stock browser, BTW.
If I use a virtual keyboard (Swype for tablets in my case), it's still faster with OpenGL enabled but not nearly as fast as with the dock keyboard.
There must be some other factors involved however, since this behavior is not consistent. At times the keyboard (dock and virtual) seriously lags regardless of the Debug setting.
I sure hope Google (or ASUS) can fix this issue since it's hugely frustrating when the keyboard lags badly. In a few cases, I've just given up trying to post a message and pulled out my laptop instead of fighting the browser.

What are your favorite app COMBINATIONS?

The theme/requirement for this thread is that you list AT LEAST 2 APPs, and explain how you have configured them to work together.
For example, this is my favorite combination:
FolderOrganizer (paid version) "FO" [This is the key app here.]
LauncherPro (I do have the Plus version, but I don't think matters. "LP"
CM7 nightly (currently from 7/14/11)
Awesomeness:
My LP (single) dock includes 3 FO menus. I rarely pull up the app drawer, and I have NO shortcuts on my desktop.
The "I always use these apps" menu. (Swipe action is the app drawer)
My web bookmarks, in a hierarchy. (Swipe action just launches the browser.)
Apps that use the camera (barcodes, camcorder, picture gallery, etc.) (Tap action is the Camera.)
Set CM7 long-press search action to a FO menu. In-app access to any app I want, without have to drop back to Home.
Set CM7 lockscreen "custom app" as another FO menu. A couple of direct call links, the camera app, voice memo, check my battery temp. Jump right into what I want to, without hitting Home or exiting the active app.
FO menus do not show in the Recent Apps. So when you exit the app you launched, you are right back in the app you had running.
I do use FO's widgets on 1 screen. One for games, and another for my "guitar" apps.
Now, it's your turn (and tell your friends about this thread too). I want to uncover those gems in the Market that I overlook, because they aren't awesome when they are alone.

Ice Cream Sandwich Bluetooth Keyboard Shortcuts

Does anyone know where to find out all the shortcuts you can do with an external keyboard on Android 4.0? Things like the back button, home screen, etc. Thank.
Thread Necromancy, I know, but this is a serious question that remains unanswered. Here's the most info I've found:
Rootzwiki User Gr8gorilla posted a list of shortcuts that work with his Targus Bluetooth Keyboard (I'm editing the list for formatting, and adding more as I find them.)
ESC: Back (woo!)
Targus FN + F* keys: (edit: These only work with the specific model of Targus keyboard. Your FN key may only perform functions as labelled, test it to verify)
FN+F1: Search
FN+F8: play/pause music
FN+F7: Skip Prev
FN+F9: Skip Next
FN+F11: Volume -
FN+F12: Volume +
FN+ESC: Wallpaper, manage apps, system settings.
Alt+Tab - recent apps, task switcher (WOO!)
CTRL + Alpha keys:
Ctrl+A: Market (edit: this opens the "add to home screen" menu for me)
Ctrl+P: Settings
Ctrl+W: Wallpaper
Ctrl+M: Apps
In Browser: (edit: these work in other apps too, if they apply)
Ctrl+B: Bookmarks
Ctrl+A: Select all
Ctrl+C: Copy
Ctrl+V: Paste
Ctrl+W: Close current tab
Ctrl+T: Open new tab
Command/Windows button + : (edit: these commands work from anywhere, even in other apps)
Win+E: Launch Default Email App (brings up a choice dialog if necessary)
Win+A: Launch Calculator.apk
Win+S: Launch Messaging.apk (SMS App)
Win+C: Launch Contacts
Win+B: Launch Browser.apk (not your default browser, unfortunately)
Win+P: Launch Music.apk (not your default music player, unfortunately)
Win+L: Launch Calendar
Win+M: Launch Google Maps
From my own experience: the above work, other than the Targus-specific ones. I've tested them all. I'm looking for more, especially ways to activate "HOME", "MENU" and to open/close the notification drawer.
Also, you can edit your /system/usr/keylayout/qwerty.kl to change which key codes sent by the bluetooth keyboard activate various functions. This would be a rather involved hack, and may be specific to your hardware. Doing it wrong could compromise your ability to use your software keyboard. Also, it would be replaced whenever you flash a ROM, and possibly some smaller updates as well. Here's a guide to hacking keyboard layouts, though it's a bit old, and I haven't tested it. DO AT YOUR OWN RISK, but post your results either way!
I'm looking for a way to enable the Android SDK Emulator Shortcut Keys on real devices. It would give us that which we're missing.
Ctrl+W and Ctrl+T
In the stock browser:
Ctrl+W - closes the current tab
Ctrl+T - opens a new tab
There may be more of these that are similar to chrome shortcuts but those are the only two I really use.

Tested to verify. Works in Chrome as well. Added to the list above!
Thanks for coming up with that list. Really appreciate it.
I'd just like to clarify something: using an app called KeyEvent Display, free on Google Play, you can verify that Android is actually receiving keystrokes from your keyboard. I've tested every key on my keyboard, and found that they correspond exactly with /system/usr/keylayout/Generic.kl (fn key excluded, because that's handled by the keyboard itself, not passed to the OS).
I think the Android Framework doesn't know what to do with:
F-Keys
Mute
wow nice one.

RootBox 2.2 for SGS2 issues

Hi
Flashed the RootBox v2.2 ROM (a combo of AOKP, CM10 + tweaks) a while ago, and some support is missing.
Couldn't find answers in the dedicated developer's thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1806401
Nor here.
1. Long press on home screen doesn't bring up the shortcuts/widgets menu, so cannot create shortcuts fast.
2. Cannot record a call (no mic button on the dialer).
3. No voice recording built-in ICS/JB app - had to search the Play and download one.
4. Cannot increase the amount of home screens - have only 5.
5. Cannot minimize the home screens in order to see them all and select one. Used to do that using a pinch gesture.
6. Cannot go straight from the first home screen backwards to the last (i.e. recursive support).
Happy for any tips, :good:
Cheers, Gaby

It depends what launcher did you choose. If you choose Apex you can do number 4 and 5 for sure. In apex go on apex settings, homescreen and then manage screens and you can add and remove how many screens you want and choose which to set as default.
When it comes to gestures such as pinch to preview you can enable it in gestures but I do not know whether you need the pro version.
Regarding question 6 I do not know what you mean.
Apex has question 1 as well.
If I am not mistaken AOKP does not support call recording.
Hope it helped you

Thanks!
Indeed I've installed the default launcher. I'll install the Apex as you suggested.
Re Q #6, I meant I couldn't scroll backwards from the first home page straight to the last.
Thanks the the quick replay! :good: Gaby

You can do that in Apex as well. If you are running on Jelly Bean I suggest that you use the Beta Version of Apex which is found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1452663
If you are using ICS you can use the normal one found on their website. To enable gestures I think you need to pay for the pro version.
To enable the feature to move from the last screen to the first screen you have to go into Apex settings, Home Screens, Modify home screens and set the default screen as the first one (by putting a star on it). Then go in behaviour settings (from apex settings) and select home screen action --->>> go to default screen. In the behaviour settings you can enable pinch to zoom etc.
If you wish to install software as a system application you can either:
1) use titanium backup to push it to the systems folder
2) Install root explorer, copy the apex.apk and paste it into the system folder. Restart the mobile and then you will have it as system application.
If you need more help do not hesitate to ask, I'll do my best to help you.
