HOW-TO [Flash][HULU] How to make Hulu work on G-Tab - G Tablet General

If you are desperate to watch hulu on your G-tab, you can use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=855898
Steps I changed:
I searched for "AND 10,1,120,1" instead of "AND 10,1,92,8" and replaced with "WIN 10,1,102,64"
Maybe someone can improve this for G-tab.

Why did you change the version number? It should only look at the system type.
I've posted a modified apk here so people don't have to do the hex editing.

Thanks. Before I do this can you say how Hulu is working. Is it smooth?

We need more people to try this, and please state what rom you are using. This is intermittently working for me.

Well it kinda works...
The video was actually pretty smooth in Dolphin Browser HD. Fullscreen was even working properly at a decent speed. I managed to get through the opening previous episode recap of Sanctuary S3E1. When Hulu tried to load an ad the Flash box blinked and a exclamation point icon came up. Now when I try playing the episode again I can't get to the actually episode. It plays the Sci-Fi channel bumper and then throws the exclamation point.
I'm not sure if this problem is related to the modified Flash Player APK or some GTablet strangeness.

Does this bork e.g. youtube? embedded videos in engadget? What about using the "Hulu Bookmark app" mentioned in the xda post in the OP?
Thanks for checking!

Try this
download Adfree from market
Install
Open adfree
Run the remove ads
Run "revert"
Reset tablet
run hulu again
Report back =)

Following those steps with Android AdFree I've managed to watch part of a Simpsons episode. It threw the exclamation point at the ad half way through the episode. I just tried an episode of Bleach and it threw the exclamation point after the intro theme song played.
Is the point of your instructions to block the ads or make sure that they will play?

The ad must play in order for it to work. Mine worked, I watched crash, but now the flash says the adobe flash needs to be updated. Weird. I'm using Adam's modded apk

I am wondering if any of you guys got it to work consistently. So far it seems like people are getting it to work sometime, not all the time.

Well now ever video with an ad on it in YouTube fails with a little exclamation too.
Argh... I even uninstalled Android AdFree, switched back to the un-hulued Flash apk, and deleted my hosts file but still the exclamation plagues me.

Did you revert your hosts file before you uninstalled AdFree?

Yes I did.
There isn't a host file in /etc right now and according to search in Astro there is no host file on my GTablet at the moment.
EDIT: The YouTube app chops more (looks worse then 360p too) then playing with Flash in Dolphin Browser HD too... sadness...
EDIT 2: Weird... A Sears ad just worked before an episode Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood...
EDIT 3: The ad in the middle and the one at the end both worked. The pop-over ads on other videos seem to be working fine to. Hmm... I think I'll avoid screwing with Hulu from now on. Hopefully the YouTube ads will continue playing nice.

Seems to work intermittently, flash crashes a lot (exclamation mark) and I've yet to get through a full episode. Flash is such a steaming pile of $#!t. I wish it would just die

(Please ignore. Posted in wrong section)

Tried the modified APK above as well as my own and got a "application did not install" error with both. Any ideas?

Got fancast working for some shows (12/6 How I Met Your Mother for ex if you wanna try) with the flash hack here:
http://www.mediafire.com/?39vc24wa2xdyy5r
Still no hulu. I get that my device isn't supported for dolphin & xscope, desktop agent, plugins always on.
Any ideas?

I followed the instructions on this thread and have Hulu working beautifully every single time. It works in both the stock browser and Miren browser.

Overall I'm impressed. Opera seems to work a bit faster, but this loads the page perfectly (unlike opera) Also, Opera tends to have issues with some links, not so on this. So perhaps this'll be my main browser.
For the video I've been seeing an issue where it'd load a video but midway the loading bar will still be there when the video plays in the background...
So- I'd have the video playing with the loading bar still in the way ^^;;
Anyone else having that issue?
I'm in Japan on wifi~
Here's a video of what I'm talking about ^^;
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxHoqeMCyOo
Yep.. same problem here.. tried watching a video from the BBC website and it got to 71% before it started playing in the back... then stopped down loading and wouldn't let me control the playback.. all I could do was let it run.. or press back to exit the video player.
How did you install skyfire? I tried to download it from get.skyfire.com and i can't install it.
just search for it on the android app market, it installed fine for me from there
Partial flash support > no flash support i'm sure it'll get much better

connect your phone to the pc - place the file you downloaded from the skyfire.com site into it. Use an application that lets you see inside your SD card (try astro something or other program )
run it and install . (heading to bed at the moment if you still can't figure it out by the time i wake up, I'll go into more detail )
let's not forget that this app is still in beta so isn't going to work perfect all the time!
even in beta it works quite well! i like the flash support even though it has its problems atm
Hm, when comparing with Skyfire flash support on WM, there is still some long way to go. But great to see Skyfire on Android
Uninstalled it for now. It was causing random reboots on my device which were not present before the installation. Most of them from actually using the app. Probably just my device so no biggy. Hopefully the bugs are ironed out cause I actually like this better than the default
any solution for the 50% loading bar ?
Not seen any - eagerly awaiting for a fix!

Tried some googling and coudn't find any info on it..?
Is this an x10 problem or is it common for all Androids?
I think it mainly x10 and maybe the droid also.
They released an update last week (I think!).. that seems to have fixed it for me.
Still having issues even after the update

Me too - video still plays behind 50% popup.
skyfire never worked once properly
Anyone hear of a fix for the loading window in the way of the video?
It is quite tantalizing to see the world cup game playing perfectly in the background but not be able to watch it due to the loading window being in the way and frozen at 50%.
I have seen it work perfectly on the droid which is running 2.1.
Is it a 1.6 or X10 issue?

got Hulu to work great with Vegan Beta 3

i love this forum. just followed the direction and got it to work on the first time. thanks to the people that actually figured this out. here's how i did it
first download the modified flash player apk. i got it from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9502517&postcount=3
remove any other flash player that you have and intall this one. maybe reboot in between to be safe.
also, get dolphin browser from market.
next just follow these directions i got from another thread. i modified it a little since the flash apk is already modified
The trick for getting Hulu working is to do these things:
1) Use Either Dolphin Browser or SkyFire
2) In the browser, Settings...set User Agent to "Desktop"
3) In Advanced Settings set Plugins to "Always On"(Default is "on demand"))
4) Install the Adobe flash player from link above
5) Install AdFree from the marketplace
6) Start AdFree, it will want to create the Host file. If it exists when you run it, it will hang and not complete the installation.
7) When AdFree comes up there is an option to "Revert" click this button to allow ads, Hulu needs this to work.
8) Reboot to clear the host cache.
9) Turn back on AdFree Host file restrictions if you like after you're done with the Hulu Goodness! Enjoy!
i went to hulu and it works great. i haven't had any issues so far. watched a whole episode of Simpsons to test it out.
just tried the stock browser and it worked also. so i guess you don't need dolphin to do watch hulu now. i think the modified flash apk is what did the trick. i did change the setting in the stock browser same as in the dolphin.
This works with beta4 and stock browser.
ETA scratch that just forces my tablet to reboot just after the commercial finishes.

with this hack, hulu is free.
one thing i had happen. when i was watching hulu on the stock browser, somewhere near the middle, the browser forced closed. after that, i couldn't get the stock browser to load up after that or the dolphin either. i turned the tab off, and when i tried to start it up, it went into a reboot loop. not sure it that's related to the rom or what i did to get hulu to work. i just reloaded everything and will try it again. will keep people posted.
Will this only work with VEGAn or can this be used with stock firmware also?
well, after i reset everything, i tried first watching a full episode of Seinfeld on dophin browser and it worked fine. then, i watched a full episode again with stock browser. it worked fine too. i guess the crash i had wasn't related to the hulu fix.
noticed something interesting. when i go to google.com, there's a little link to download the chrome browser. when i clicked on it, it gave me the download page but for mac 0S X 10.5 or later, Intel Only.

It works on the stock firmware, but you have to root your tablet first to use Adfree.
Works good, but breaks Market
I tried this and it worked great. Watched an episode of Family Guy. Then I tried the Market app and all the apps were gone. I the reapplied the Market fix and all is well. Thanks for the tip!
I had my fingers crossed that this would make Fancast.com (aka xfinity.com/tv) work, but it still seems to hang on the commercials for shows from any network other than CBS. Hopefully the Xfinity On Demand Android app will show up in January, as has been rumored.
not working
Don't know what I did wrong, but I followed the instructions in the first post. I get all the way to loading an episode when it tells me my device is not supported. Help.

I am having the same thing as the previous user, I am on Vegan beta 4, using dolphin HD and the flash player from the first post, and I had set my agent to Desktop. I do have the dolphin plugin desktop viewer (can't remember the exact name off the top of my head) but I did manually set the Agent to desktop, still get the device is not supported message.
That flash player actually fixed an issue i was having with the browser closing when trying to play a flash file.

[Q] megavideo?

I just got my gtab yesterday. Changed some stuff today. rooted, installed tnt lite, titanium backup, dolphin browser. Yet I cannot get any web-based tv to work. I like to watch stuff on megavideo or wisevid, but neither one wants to work. I get about a half second of sound on megavideo before it totally boots me from the browser.
I get "Data connectivity problem: The connection to the server was unsuccessful." just trying to load the megavideo page, not even the video yet.
I hit "Okay" and the page still displays. I press the play button and half a second of sound later... I'm booted.
What can I do?
Thanks!

Using a browser. am off to try the lite version of that app, but the main reason I use browser is there are more accessible shows on the internet than most apps will have. I like british tv and lots of odd sci-fi type stuff.
okay, just tried the tv app and got booted back to the app every time I tried to view an episode. I'm guessing it's something to do with my flash version. How do I find out what I have vs what I need? I could not find the link in the app forum. please help.
have you tried this application? it's still a beta, but it should be working fine, NO FLASH REQUIRED!

please, let me know your feedback!

What was I thinking?

Okay, I've been running TNT Lite 2.0 for awhile, and since it was snappy and stable and did most of what I wanted, I just left it there.
Man. I just updated to TNT Lite 4.20, and things are MUCH nicer! Voice search on Google, better video playback, more options, and FINALLY ... FULL access to the Market.
Still no Hulu or other TV-type support (bummer), and the maps are kinda cranky, etc., but this is a nice step forward.
BTW, I didn't wipe my data and still everything seems hunky-dory. Hope that doesn't bite me in the butt at some point!
In the meantime, I'm happy.

.
Get the fixed flash 10.3 from the apps and themes thread and you will have your hulu sir ;-)
Edit: saved you the trouble of looking
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1077914
Thanks! I actually tried that before I flashed 4.20, and it didn't work ... still said I needed Flash 10,0.32 or some such.
I'll try it again and see if TNT Lite 4.20 makes a difference.
.
.
Well, I installed the new and improved Flash player and still nothing. I get one of three things:
- A message saying Ishould subscribe to Hulu Plus (or something like that),
- A message saying the video isn't available "on this iPad" (how dare they!)
- A message saying the webpage isn't available.
In any case, it's clear they ain't gonna let me see their stuff!
.
.
What browser? The only one I know of that works 100% is dolphin 4.5+. You have to go into settings and tell it to present itself as a PC. It said ipad because whatever browser you are using is set to mock an ipad signature.
Double check also on your browser settings that plugins are set to always on under advanced settings in Dolphin.
Sent from my gTablet Vegan 5.1 using XDA Premium App
I'm running the stock browser that is packaged with TNT Lite 4.20.
I guess maybe that's the problem, huh?

you need to update your 'useragent' to desktop, you may need to use a different browser to simplify that. DolphinHD makes it pretty easy to do in the settings.

Nope - tried that. I'm assuming you mean the option to view as desktop vs. as a tablet.
Didn't make any difference.

This is a link to the newest dolphin browser apk. Give it a shot. In the first use of this it will run you through an enitial setup. Select user agent desktop and select plugins always on. Just flashed clemyson+calkilins combo (very similar to tnt 4+) without adding any other apks except fixed flash 10.3 and dolphin from this link and this fix worked fine. Hope this solves it for you.
Thanks for the tips. I'll give Dolphin a try in a few days when I get some free air. Maybe that will take care of it.

Enable ad to allow hulu plus app to play

I recently got a month free trial to hulu plus, and wanted to try out the market app for android. I was able to download and install, log in, and even select what show to watch, but it never got past the first ad. It just said buffering...and eventually gave me a network error. well, I knew that my connection was fine, so a little research yielded these results.
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/team-d1-miui/110780-disable-ad-blocking.html recommends allowing certain advertising through, by navigating to /system/etc/hosts and deleting whatever ads you want to allow though.
http://www.hulu.com/support/article/166627 mentions that by allowing ads.hulu.com and p.hulu.com you may be able to work around certain playback issues. even though this was meant for firefox, i figured they use the same ad base.
so, I deleted those entries in my system/etc/hosts file and voila! hulu now works flawlessly.
fwiw, i am running miui 1.8.12 on my nexus s, with matr1x kernel.
hope this helps out!
What/where to delete to enable hulu?
Hi, i know this thread is a little old but im having the same problem. My rom has add block so i went in /system/etc/hots and opened hots using text viewer. but hosts is a really LONG list and i don't understand anything in it. I dont even know what im looking for. If you could tell me how you deleted the things that allowed hulu to play i would greatly appreciate it
Thanks
Edit: nevermind, i figured it out. I realized in text editor it lists things in alphabetical order. So i found the "culprit" under H (ads.hulu.com)
thanks anyway
