[Resolved] [Q] Can a rooted phone be updated via official means - General Questions and Answers

Sup,
Dunno if this has been answered, search didn't help out much but:
I have root'ed my 2.1 Android Moto Milestone with the Universal Androot. Once the official 2.2 update kicks in, will it update with ease, or will I have to Unroot it before I update. Might there be any unexpected problems?
Sorry for my noobish question...but better safe than sorry.

It'll update fine, but you'll lose root. Updates don't take long to get rooted. Sit tight.

thanks for the quick reply

[Q] Froyo 2.2 Question

Does anyone know if your device will still receive the official over the air update if it is rooted and still running 2.1 update 1? If not how can you unroot your device? Thanks in advance for any help that you can offer
I'm not absolutely sure, but I am pretty sure it should update just fine if you haven't flashed an unofficial rom. Even though your device is rooted.

Should I even bother with AT&T 2.2 update?

My Captivate is still on 2.1 (rooted). Should I even bother to install the AT&T 2.2 update? Do I really need to unroot before I install? How do I do that?

Please do a search before opening a new thread. There is already an open thread that has all the info on the 2.2 update.

[Q] 4.22.651.2 Gingerbread Auto Root???

Hi XDA DEVELOPERS, can you find an auto root software for the new gingerbread 4.22.651.2 update? I didn't know when you update to the new 4.22.651.2 gingerbread; you can't use any of the previous rooting programs to root a phone such as the Evo 4G. I would really appreciate your help or the help of the forum community, because i really want to root my Evo 4G Thanks.
I would agree I got my new phone today (old one was broken and was rooted) and I cant seem to root my new phone I have 4.22.651.2, 2.3.3 AV, and 2.15_003 PRI. If you can point me to a rooting solution I would greatly appreciate it.
how about rooting it yourself ??

LOL yeah really 'helpful'
Is there any sign of root for the 4.22.651.2 update? my replacement came with it and this Sprint garbage is horrible. I had MIUI previously and miss root access. Unfortunately I'd have no idea where to start to look to do it myself.....So is there anything going on with it?
I'm in the same boat. The right 1cm of my screen stopped responding to touch input, so they sent me a replacement with 4.22.651.2 and 2.15.00.05.02 baseband. Really missing root and CM7 right now!
I'm having the same issue. I thought I was gonna be slick and root my phone in 10 min. I tried unrevoked3 but no luck. I got an error saying my firmware was too new. I'm seaching for a solution but no luck at this time.

[Q] XOOM Accidental 3.01 meant to put 3.2 now can't get back

In attempting to root, I ended up putting 3.01 on the Xoom by accident because I had the 'Stuck at Motorola logo' problem. Now I'm back to the Xoom desktop, but I have an older version of the OS and the OTA update won't work. I want to get back to my 3.2 glory and I don't care so much about rooting anymore.
So if anyone has any tips to help me, I would greatly appreciate it. I've searched around but I can't find the answer to this one.
Xoom
3.0.1
Kernel: 2.6.36.3-g2a4197e

But I know I had a different Build Number all the way up until I had the Motorola logo stuck screen.
Thanks In Advance!

If you are completely stock and unrooted, you you should get the OTA updates. Being unlocked is OK, so don't relock, because if you decide to root later, unlocking again would cause you to lose all your data.
