One click ENG S-OFF
HTC - Quietly Unlocked
I have created a small and simple tool to S-OFF a Desire HD after it has been permrooted with Visionary. After you have run this tool, you will have an engineering hboot (S-OFF). Remember that making a phone S-OFF is dangerous business, and you use this tool at your own risk! The tool also works with any custom ROM, as long as you have root permissions (and Radio S-OFF, which was required to flash the custom ROM in the first place).
System requirements:
Windows XP SP2 or higher
.NET Framework 3.5
HTC Sync (or ADB drivers)
Desire HD with lower than 1.7x stock ROM OR any custom ROM, tick "I have Radio S-OFF" in the tool
Now that your device is S-OFF, and you can get Rom manager from the market, which will install a ClockWorkMod recovery for you. Just open it up and tap "Flash ClockworkMod recovery".
Mint! This sounds great. So all I need to do is perm root and use your app I sence new ROM and kernal on my device very soon.

Will I have any problems with windows xp 32bit ? As on the other tool people having problems. I'll have to wait till 2orw to try on my dads laptop as I'm guessing its fine on windows 7 64bit ?

Windows 7 64b will definitely not have the AdbWinApi problem, it only seems to affect XP.
I'll give it a try 2orw unless some1 else gives it a go before. Would be nice to have a all in 1 tool (kernal+Rom) but that's jumping the gun abit lol

I fixed the WinXP problem with my Kernel Update Utility, and I think that it will affect this tool, too. I will prepare a new build tomorrow.
so, when this has been tested, will you look at merging this with the other tool you created to offer an even completer '1-click-tool'?
I would like to keep these tools separate, because new users get easily confused. This app is meant for them, to easily gain s-off.

To 'unroot', uninstall Superuser and VISIONary, then either do an RUU or flash the boot and hboot from one.
This is supaaa sweett.. i had been waiting for a tool like this was hoping for unrevoked but it havent came out yet.. thanks for the effort man.. will try it when i got my Desire HD.. (not available yet in malaysia )
So if my rooted DHD doesnt in fact install clockworkmod recovery from the Rom manager (although it does not return any error), could it be because I am not sure if the device S-off-ed?
Could someone please explain the few steps that need to be followed and what to do with the files from the attachment. I can only guess, but I am not sure. THANKS!
I would like to use your app but I have a question ( noob question)
I have to permroot my DHD before with Visionary ?
Thanks a lot !!!

Very Nice! I have Hboot 0.80 since Delivery but nice for the other =)
my desire has hboot 0.83 BUT has a amoled screen, so do i follow these instructions but use the clockwork mod version included in unrevoked?
You can use the one from UnrEVOked but it's an old build. Use this one: http://koush.tandtgaming.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-2.5.0.1-bravo.img
You can use the same recovery image (the one in this thread) for both.
Yeah, unrevoked3 works fine on mine with the updated image. It also means there's no reason to downgrade to hboot 0.80 for SLCD phones.
Great news!!
Nothing to stop me from rooting now.
Just a quick question though - what about ROM flashing? Do I need to wait for ROMs specifically built for this screen?
I got a black screen on step 5 when downgrading from 0.92. Left it 5 minutes, pressed vol up to reboot, it did but then error 140!
Do I still need a goldcard if I'm rooting 0.83 branded?
Also what's the situation with installing custom Froyo ROMS on this? Do the screens still work?
Thanks
THL
Works PERFECT! Thanks
Can anyone confirm that this works for the Telus branded Desire? Gold card required?
If it can be rooted will probably get it this week for the girlfriend...

I'm wondering too... out of curiosity...
although I have AMOLED...
You don't need a goldcard to root the phone with unrevoked3, nor do you need a goldcard to apply a custom ROM.
You can successfully flash a rooted official FroYo image with radio on an SLCD desire (I have tried, it works), just make sure you do a backup first.
I used this rom:
http://android.modaco.com/content/h...-froyo-pre-rooted-no-hboot-with-radio-deodex/
I was thinking of making an update.zip for ClockworkMod which includes HBOOT 0.83. Could somebody make one? I would then edit the tutorial so the root process for 0.92 would be easier.
Can anyone confirm this works on a Vodafone Desire with HBOOT 0.83 and 1.24.161.3. ROM?
Worked well for Telus SLCD Desire.
Note: with Windows 7, I needed an additional adb driver file that I found as a download in androidforums Google: "adb-driver-problem-flashing-generic-htc-rom". (I can't post links here.)

If you are waiting for a solution which does not require the use of a computer, you will likely never see one. I would guess that even the "official" unlock coming from HTC will still be done via a computer.

Any info on this ? did HTC announce some rooting patch coming up ?
I s-off and rooted my HTC Aria (2.2.2 hboot 1.02) using revolution (straight foward), but from what I read here so far doign the same on ym wife Inspire 4G would require a rom wipe out loosing all my data (still on 2.2.1 but hopeing to get GB soon when ATT pushes it as again installing of HTC site warn about erasing personal data), which I don't want to do... don't know how to back it all up before (only contacts are saved to Outlook on PC).

Jump onto #liberatedAria IRC channel tomorrow and I bet ATTN1 will let you test his new hack kit that won't mess up your data ("hack kit lite"). I've run it myself and it's pretty slick. I think it's only for linux at present.

I did but unfortunately the script left my wife's Inspire unsuable - wouldn't boot up even in recovery mode! that was an Inspire with 2.3.3 (OTA update from ATT from the stock 2.2.1) HBOOT 0.85.0024 S-ON, on win7.
First time I ran it, it partially worked and installed CW 4.0.x for recovery so I was able to do a full backup but no root and no S-OFF, but ran normally otherwise (with all info intact)... second time I ran it again (to get s-off), it failed after unloading a new radio and from there on would not boot/recovery at all - black screen after logo. I freaked out. Must have been a bad day for attn1 as he kicked me out of the chat room twice (loosing all usefull info in the chat above ) even when I first came in before I started.
Eventually I was able to restore it back to HTC official 2.3.3 RUU .exe using the fastboot mode, and restore most of my info back. I couldn't get 2.2.1 RUU to install (got from somewhere here) as I was trying to see if maybe the hack only worked with that previous rev.
Guess I'll be waiting for the official release and the bugs to be worked out for Windows...
So there is no way to do this on a PPC Mac? And why doesn't it work on a PPC Mac?

You need an upgrade in the pc area.
The old power macs are just too outdated. Writing software for an old closed system like yours would be pointless and a waste of time. Even though you run osx I'm pretty sure its a special flavor of osx, because they where using 64 bit IBM processors at the time.

Hi, semi-noob android tweaker here...
I've been customizing my WFS by replacing all the HTC side of the Android software. I'd like to know what stock HTC crud I can remove without rendering it a paperweight.
Everything but the lockscreen has been replaced (I tried using one from the market but it reverted after a reboot).
Most of the major replacements are from the GO team selection, do they rely on the core HTC stuff to work?
I apologise in advance, I have already posted a similar question in the WFS forum, but it seems quite dead in there.....

You can flash it now but you might need to wipe htc sense data.
Also the supported method is to flash it before first boot it will clean up your ROM better this way
I suggest you post your future questions in my thread from now on...

Hello!
Just wondering what the best way to gain root only is on my Desire S. Would it be SuperOneClick or Gingerbreak? That is, no custom ROMS or recovery, just root so I can run Titanium Backup and a couple of other root-only apps.
My Firmware info:
Baseband: 20.28I.30.085AU_3805.06.02.03_M
Build: 1.47.161.2 CL78999
HBoot: 0.98.0002
Radio: 0-3805.06.02.03_M
If it matters, I'm on a Vodafone UK branded model.
Oh, and like anything else, to reverse root, it'd just be to delete all instances of su and busybox on the file system?
Thanks a lot
Edit: Whoops! Forgot my disclaimer - I'm not a noob, but I'm not entirely sure what the best method is with the latest firmware without making any 'irreversible' changes to the bootloader.
You can run either of them. I used gingerbreak because of its simplicity. Just an apk which you install and run.
Also are you s-on or s-off?
Im pretty sure you can unroot using those two methods. But double check if you want.
Sent from my Desire S using xda premium
I'm S-ON. I'm willing to make it S-OFF if necessary - but I'll take a look at Gingerbreak. (Which I think will only give me Temp Root, which will be fine as I only want to back up a couple of apps!)
Thanks!
Well , I will say you should go with Superoneclick , As it has 99.9% success rate, where as Gingerbreak is at work everytime. I rooted my DS with SuperOneClick. Well if u r going with gingerbreak then Good Luck..
The only reason i didnt recommend superoneclick is because when i rooted my phone superoneclick wasnt available for desire s so i didnt want to recommend it but obviously if your saying its better than gingerbreak then it probably is. Plus gingerbreak worked first time for me. I think when you s-off it should give you permanent root

Both SuperOneClick and Gingerbreak didn't work, so I ended up using Revolutionary.io.
Seems to have worked well, even though I've voided all warranty (and the phone is only 3 days old!).

I did not develop the Rumrunner s-off, and this is not an official Rumrunner thread.
This thread is here to spread the information to s-off easily.
Note: If HTCDEV UNLOCK is failing because of new motherboards after replacement, the only way to s-off is here . No!!!!
It is said to work EVEN WITH TEMPROOT!!! Go to this thread, temp root your device, and do the following instructions!!
Please test it and report to confirm if it really works, thanks!!
SCARED or TIRED of the wire trick to s-off using Juopunutbear S-OFF??

Follow the instructions here. http://rumrunner.us/instructions/
Profit!!!
※※ I tried this on ARHD with stock kernel and it's not working, but it's working flawlessly with ViperS 5.1.0. Maybe it is something to do with kernel (I don't really know).

Maybe it will work on other roms, try and tell me the results.
