How do I change the length of time the screen stays on for when it is plugged in? - Captivate General

So the screen shuts itself off very quickly. Isn't there any way to let the screen stay on for a while when it is plugged in, and very quickly turn off when it is not plugged in?
So, if I get a text and the phone is plugged in, it stays lit, but if I get a text and it is in my pocket, it flashes on and then off.

Settings -> Applications -> Development
"Stay awake"
"Screen will never sleep while charging"

I wish they'd add separate controls, but thank you very much for that find!! And the very curious location it is stored in. If I get a text while sleeping, it'll leave my phone on the whole time - which is upsetting.

It allows you to modify settings based on conditions... I have mine set to turn on WiFi & BlueTooth along with setting the screen timeout to 10 minutes whenever I plug mine in. It also mutes the system sounds after 10pm so E-mail doesn't wake me up, but a phone call will. Worth the couple of bucks for the app in my opinion.

[Q] Backlight Management App

Hello all,
First of all, apologies if this is in the wrong forum.
I have an HTC EVO 4G on Sprint. I am looking for an app that will manage the backlight in a way more like Windows Mobile's own built-in management. Here's what I am looking for more specifically. When charging or plugged in, the backlight should be full brightness and the screen should never dim or turn off. When on battery, the backlight could be set to dim after xx minutes, or not dim. The device should then shut the screen off after xx minutes.
With Android's built-in settings, all I can come up with is the setting for the screen to never sleep when charging, which is oddly placed under Applications -> Development. The screen timeout setting applies to both battery and charging statuses.
Why? When the phone is plugged in, I like to be able to quickly glance at it for time or notifications. I don't like having to hit the power button to check these. When on battery, the phone is usually in my pocket so taking it out and pressing the power button are almost one motion. It saves battery as well.
Also, in the car, I always have the phone charging. I've noticed that some GPS and other programs will keep the backlight on, but others will not. I've seen some applications just allow the backlight to dim, so I have to keep touching the display to wake it up.
Does such an application exist? If not, doesn't anyone else want to see such an application made?
This is one of the little things that I miss about Windows Mobile 6.5.

[Q] Let go of phone and display dims (power saver)

Can your phone automatically dim or turn-off when placed on a table/desk?
I can't use the display when it rests flat on a table as it is too reflective and I can't swype/type/interact unless the phone is in my hand. The default auto-dim seems to activate only if no motion or input is detected. Thus, when I put the phone down, it needlessly burns minutes of battery power before dimming.
If a bubble-level app can detect whether a desk-top is flat/horizontal, why can't the phone dim to save power as soon as it is put down?
Ahah, the solution is a combination of two apps, neither of which work fully. Stay tuned...
Solved!
Tasker allows me to set up a phone orientation (flat on table) in which the screen is always dimmed. Meanwhile, it also allows me to set up more persistent LED/vibrate/flashlight notifications for missed calls, sms, emails, etc. Only drawbacks, the app itself is too expensive/complex/ugly.

Sometimes doesnt sleep?

Noticed 2x today I walked away for an hour and came back to a bright screen. Both times I had just plugged it in and left it on the desk. I turned the sleep timer down to 15s and experimented a bit but couldn't replicate it...
I also noticed when it auto sleeps, there is no screen lock sound. Though I do hear it when I click the power button. The option is turned on in settings, and I remember my 300's all made the lock sound 5 seconds after the screen turned off. Maybe the 700s don't do it? Or maybe there's a problem with the hardware or not really sleeping?
Does yours make the lock sound when it locks after an automatic sleep?
Please can someone just turn up their volume and let their tf700 stock ROM go to sleep with the lock sound enabled? Tell me if you hear the lock sound when it AUTOMATICALLY goes to sleep? (Without clicking the power button)
I only have a couple days to exchange and need to know if this is normal for the 700
Again, the lock sound only plays when I click the power button, Not when it auto sleeps and locks. The tf300 always played the audio.

[Q] Wireless Charging - How do I keep my screen turned off?

Stock S6 (T-Mobile, 64GB, White). I have two different QI chargers (one is the TYLT Vu Wireless Charger (Qi) and the other is a CHOE stadium). The phone charges fine with both chargers, but the screen keeps turning on while charging and I can't seem to find a setting to disable this.
As soon as I put it on the charger, the screen turns on, so I hit the power button. Usually it turns back on within 5 seconds, so I hit the power button again. It will then stay off for a while, but if I wake up in the middle of the night the screen is back on again. Any ideas what is causing this?
I have noticed that the screen tends to turn on when I get a notification or when the "searching for GPS" pops up on the lock screen, but in both cases the display will dim but it will not turn all the way off.
Edit - forgot to mention that I get the same results regardless of whether or not the phone is in a case.
I got the same thing with portable battery packs... very annoying.
Also mine keeps getting off and on all the time.
Strange - my screen turns off fine if it's plugged charging via USB. It's only wireless charging that has issues on mine.
The screen always wakes up when it starts or stops charging. Do you have the developer option turned on to leave the scree on when charging? If so, when it wakes up at the end of charging, it will never turn back off. If you don't have this option enabled, then I don't have a good reason.
Thank you thank you! I just enabled developer options (after accidentally finding Flappy Android) and the "keep screen on while charging" option was turned on by default. Doing a test charge now, but it appears as if the screen is staying off.
Awesome!

anyway to stop wake on charge?

everytime i attempt to charge the phone the screen wakes up, is there a option to turn this off at all?
gets annoying after a while.
In Developer Options turn this command off. Stay Awake.
I think he means that when he bugs the phone in or puts it on a wireless charger the lock screen lights up.
I'd be interested if there was an answer as well.

yeah when i plug the charger in the screen turns on and i have to press the side button to turn off the screen again, gets irritating after a while especially when you have a app open.
i'll try that dev option and see if that changes anything.

Can't it simply do what previous Samsung phones did before? You plug in the charger it makes a sound that it's charging and that's it? What purpose would benefit anyone by waking the screen when the phone has started charging anyway? All it does is irritate the user as they have to keep pressing the side button each time the phone is left to charge.
It seems the only way to disable this is yet again root and there doesn't seem to be any other way, not even a app at least..
???
Waking the screen while charging each time is dam meaningless.
The screen should time out and turn back off or am I missing something?
No, you are not missing anything. I agree, there is no reason for the screen to come on upon starting to charge as you have an led that tells you that. It is just ANNOYING!
Yes this is annoying and I am still looking for a way to disable it. Not only does the screen turn on when I place my S8 in the cradle, when the screen timeout kicks in, the screen wakes again when the wireless charging does its animation of how much percentage is left.
Try "All My..." it contains no wake on charge. If you use wireless charging then I would reconomend using a charger limiter like "Battery Charge Limit [ROOT]" to minimize heat.
