[Q] ROM Porting - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

I noticed that I can download .zips of ROM sourcecode off http://developer.htc.com/
Can't I just, for example, take an Evo ROM and flash it on my Incredible?

[ROM] CyanogenMod - Zoom Zoom Zoom (STABLE) [UPDATED 8/17- v4.0.1]

It's going to be hard to maintain two threads in two forums, so I invite you all to step over HERE: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=537204
I've created a version of CyanogenMod that runs perfectly on both Dream and Magic 32B, and identifies itself properly (different build.prop for each). The same ROM can be used on both devices.
Enjoy
You're the man Cyanogen. Thank you!
sweet! now we just need a 32A port of this, itll be great.

ah darn i dont know now if i should switch from 32A to 32B... ill see how the radio from 32A performs in Tmo USA
Awesome. I always look forward to see how you're pushing Android! Would love to see more Hero from you! ;P
The only issue I've found on the myTouch is that the trackball doesn't flash on incoming calls. Hrmm.

A common issue with non HTC roms on the Magic/Sapphire.
/me eagerly await a 32A version... Amon_RA help!
Any chance of porting your recovery over, cyanogen? That nandroid restore would be sexy to have.

Well, it works fine on the original firmware. Hrm.
Same with my HTC Magic (32A) but any other rom, such as Amon_RA's Ion based one, that I try, trackball no glow.

So it works on the Ion? I used the same stuff in /system/lib/hw. I'm assuming there is other code to make it blink.
No blink on my ion. I had blink with all your roms before this one.

Errr, i guess i'm wrong.
The jogball-backlight is in sysfs and I can control it manually, but there's no code in AOSP for this as far as I can tell. Going to keep looking into it.
no blink

Great! Hopefully we're gonna see r/w on /system too, soonish!
sorry this will sound stupid but what does these kernel sources allow devs to do?? I thought gaining root access was the most important thing in customizing stock roms..

+1, Love to see some of the marvellous nexus kernels ported to desire. And fully ported Enomther and Cyanogen rom.
Yeah full Cyanogen would be great too.
Can somebody provide a /proc/config.gz from a stock Desire?
Also, anybody want to try OC-UV on the Desire?

This is not from the stock desire rom. But all roms up to now use the default kernel, so here you go, I had to recompress it for upload purposes.

If my understanding is correct...this will allow custom ROMs with the Sense UI to be created and hopefully...fully functional.
Customized Sense ROM with 100% working bluetooth
this will be a busy week end for cooks!
I think the first thing on the agenda is to Port Peshoots OC Kernal with a fully functioning CM 5.07
Get to work guys))))))

That means we will be able to get Android 2.2 Froyo when it will be available for Nexus One ?

(Crackflashers)(ROM) (wip) Compiled from cm7 source

I have been compiling the cm7 source and sharing. Gapps and rom boots and work. It is more basic gingerbread aosp then cm7. Cyanogen and teamdouche have been working to get this together and this is more kinda like a nightly
www.crackflashers.com
You will need to flash the new recovery.img to flash/get working gapps.
after flashing gapps, run fix permissions to get gapps to work.
This is cause of cm7 going to ext4 based system unlike older roms that are ext3
The new recovery does make it so you can not use older pre gingerbread roms so find a older recovery to fastboot back to anything like froyo or restore old backups

The gapps are posted on on that link also not built in, building in causes bootloops. Don't have any clue when it will be in rom manager, the one uploaded is the recovery.img built with the source

Its slightly more advanced along in development than the other version. ADW is now the default launcher. Haven't noticed any difference apart from that.

Desire HD ROMs

I've found that you can flash some Desire HD ROMs to the inspire if you flash a compatible kernel over top of it.
I'm currently running Android Revolution HD on my Inspire (so far the only one I've tried, I haven't had any issues yet).
Here are the steps I used to do this:
- Copy ROM and Kernel to SDCard
- reboot into recovery
- Make a nandroid backup from Clockwork Recovery (I always make a backup just in case I need to go back)
- wipe data/cache in Clockwork
- flash ROM from Clockwork
- flash kernel from Clockwork
I used a Telus Desire HD kernel I found on the forums (same as Inspire) Sound and everything works.
I'll also attach the kernel I used for everyone to try it out.
Please report and other ROMs you have success or failure with so everyone can know what works.
EDIT: This isn't really needed anymore since the new source and kernels coming out support the Inspire. Just find a ROM that has the 1.72 kernel source and flash it, it should work as is.
I'm using Revolution HD that mike1986. posted in this this forum with no issues.
does CM7 work? I am scared to mess until I get an easy way to revert to stock like odin back to stock on the captivate. If someone knows an easy fail safe measure like the download mode on the captivate I would love to know then i will try anything!
I love you <3 lmao

Needless to say, i'll be rooting and flashing this tomorrow.
Thanks again.
Not cyanogen. Goto HTC Desire HD Development forum, and grab the Android Revolution ROM.
Flashed leedroid v.2 with the telus rom and it works just fine. kinda wish i had the leedroid rom because it had a %20 vol increase. but i now have a 1.22ghz OC!!!!! Can anyone make a increased volume kernel. i've noticed that ours is blocked to 73% of the maxium

[Port][Rom devs please read] Evo Shift stock deodex ported to Evo {Very experimental}

IMPORTANT this is very and I mean very Experimental this is not for your average user
So we most if not all want a z like rom landscape and other reasons well here is a shift stock rom deodex for Rom builders to base Evo roms off of it works but there maybe some issues with size on landscape also if you want the evo camera apk the one with front cam you'll need to place it in your modified version and there is the possibility of a GPU's issues since shift has a newer version and evo is older
Disclaimer
Using these files you take the risk of anything happening to your phone and I can not and will not be held responsible this is a port for Rom developers to base off of
