Help a Poor 1yr+ Android Project Out! - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

The LG Incite (a Windows Mobile 6.1 phone with a mere 128Mb of RAM & 528MHz processor) has seen pretty much no help from the XDA Community. Luckily, it has it's own website that has been a major contribution to developing and hacking the phone. Around Mid-September of last year, an Android project was started here: http://www.lg-incite.com/lg-incite-rom-dev/android-port/ By the member randomblame. He's worked hard with very little help for the past year and 2 months. Yet, through all his hard work we still don't have a working port for the incite. Now, to my (very unknowledgeable) understanding, he is having trouble with the frame buffer and display driver along with a couple other things. I'm here posting, asking for the help from the XDA Android development community because with a little help from a few more people, I know this project can be completed. Thanks! Again, if you would like to read up about the project you can do so by this link: http://www.lg-incite.com/lg-incite-rom-dev/android-port/

I used to have an LG Incite and I do remember when this project got started . Hopefully one day it'll be ported because i'd like to see how it works on the hardware (which is sloooow on windows mobile)

Hello , newbie here

Hello Everybody. Its been a couple of months since i started spending time on XDA. The major reason that pulled me here is the flexibility and customization on a Windows based PPC. Its been like 2 years i am on Symbain and now i feel its time to move on
Reading posts on XDA has been very interesting (although i don't understand most of it ). I am still looking where to start off from , to understand the wide variety of things discussed here. I have tried reading a lot but that doesnt help. So here is what i thought of. May be first i will get a PPC and then every thing may start looking easier (hope so )
I need a suggestion from you guys. My current budget allows me to get either a HTC P3400 (Gene) or the imate PDAL
Here is what i have figured out about the above 2 phones
HTC Pros
- Widely supported here.
- WM 6.1 available easily
- Large Screen size (2.8")
- HTC gaining good market
The only con here is the lack of WiFi. The next higher model would be the Touch which is 50% more costlier than the Gene and since i sparingly use WiFi ATM , it wouldnt be a wise decision to go for it
Regarding Imate PDAL, it has a smaller screen 2.4 " , WM 5.0 , average reviews and not a lot of support from developers. The only thing that is tilting me towards it is the WLAN support.
Since Gene and PDAL are going at the same price , i am in a tough spot deciding .. so thought i could take some help from the pros
Replies would be highly appreciated

Port Android / WM7 for HD2???

Hi Guys,
This is my first post.... I am firstly thankful to xda team for all their efforts and also to everyone who are working to fine tune WM6 and Android. When will MS learn all this? Damn Windows....(Hope MS is listening)......
Anyway i/everyone am/are totally fed up with WM6... Hope the XDA team is launching Android or WM7 for HTC HD2 (aka LEO) soon... Any NEWS/updates guys????
In short; yes someone (as in a lot of people) is working on both. Welcome to the forums, and check the threads and search function. You will find that threads concerning your questions are quite high in their respective sub-forums. Try and read up before posting, it'll make the stay here quite pleasant. Some people here are tired of answering the same questions over and over, and it'll keep the forums tidy.
very possible but i believe the developers said around end of this year for the android/wp7 on HD2.cant wait......
Well,WP7 is just around the corner.
As for Android,I tried it before but wasn't satisfied because it is maybe interesting at first but later it becomes really boring(Anyway for me).
The HD2's hardware can easily handle WP7 and Microsoft needs to change its mind:just because the HD2 doesn't have a bing key(I think that the problem is about this hardware key.Correct me if I am wrong) this doesn't mean that it is not capable.
@ForceField
Its not just the searchbutton. There are several hardware issues against the "new" mobile concept of MS. Especially the missing sd-card support or better MS don't wan't you to have changeable memory on your device, that might interfere with their "MS marketplace only" app source. That means there has to be much more internal storage in the device itself - like on the iPhone or Palm Pre.
It's definitly easier to become Android on the HD2 since HTC is releasing the nearly similar (hardwarewise) HTC Evo on Sprint - I guess this a nobrainer for the xda-chefs to cook the needed things for that.
microsoft must give an upgrade for htc hd2 because the wm 6.5 is getting boring....some of us loved it but would be great to give a chance to port a wp7 to hd2.. the android operating system is very good too...they made such as good phone as htc hd2 but they gave it away...the next htcs phones doesnt have even sense anymore if i am not doing wrong...after hd2 with sense they throwed away the sense and android came up more famous like HTC Evo or desire..!!!its too bad for such a hi-tech phone to stay forgotten!this phone needs some love so microsoft must give love ;-p and a special gift finally... !!!but at all thanks to god that we have xda-chefs to give us some real dope stuffs to hd2 in nearby ''future''....
ps sorry for my english... ;-p

Click to collapse
It is definitely NOT a nobrainer putting Android on the HD2... the EVO may help a little.... but it is not the same hardware as the HD2. The nexus1 is closer hardware-wise to the HD2. They are using the nexus kernel as a starting point for the kernel they've been already working on for months. But they still have alot of work ahead of them. It is not the same as cooking a new rom. They have to port a working linux kernel.
Help......
God.... i am suffering with ORD... please help.

Porting for Lenovo LePhone: WE WILL PAY!

Nowadays many user are complaining about LePhone, and mainly about its ROM. First, users dislike Lenovo's custom-made OS. Second, it rarely updates. Its latest version is still Android 2.2.1 but the latest version of Android is already 2.3.5! So we came up with the idea: Hire some guys that are very good at porting systems to port CM to LePhone!
Although Lenovo haven't opened the source code, but I think there's still a another way because a guy called "zbwu" ported an Android 2.3.2 to LePhone on January 2011.But unfortunately he sold his LePhone later and bought a DHD instead.
So we are really thirsty looking for someone to port CM to LePhone! The total pay is 10000RMB (About 1567USD)(Maybe more, maybe less).
If you are interseted in this, please send a message to me!
And finally, thank you! Please forward this to other forums if you can, and we would be very thankful for that!
Please make CM for LePhone!!!

[Q] OS Port Question Thunderbolt (been searching)

I've been searching for this answer but unless I'm using the wrong keywords or maybe the info I need is buried on page 30 I can't seem to find.
Does anyone know if any dev has been able to or has ported "windows phone 7" OS of any version over to the Thunderbolt?
I've asked in a few other areas but got flamed for wanting to overwrite Android so I gave up in the Thunderbolt forums.
If it has been done all I'm asking for is the url, of course I have no problem reading the info.
It wont happen.. It is far to difficult to port at Binary based closed source OS to different hardware.. The windows mobile 6.5 HTC HD2 was an exception as it has the same cpu and gpu etc as most the WP7 devices so was more of a hack than a port..
shame but thats how it is
Thanks for the answer. Was searching Google and getting crazy stuff. Not really wanting to switch to Nokia or T-Mobile. For me having 7 or Mango version would make my business sync issues so much easier. Again Thanks Much.

[Q] Best used Android phone for putting a custom ROM

Hi guys! A long time user and a new member of this incredible forum and website. This is infact the BEST website for android phones.
Being a HTC Desire user for 4 years now, I could keep it alive and breathing with customs roms and tutorials you guys have provided here. My sincerest thanks to everyone responsible for this, especially the developers. Now I think its finally catching up with age and I need a newer handset.
So I'm on a hunt for an used Android phone something which has good hardware, 4G LTE (not required not a plus nonetheless) and is cheap ($100 - $150ish) which has a good support base with developers building new roms frequently. I would be extremely happy if someone could suggest a phone to match my requirements. All suggestions and advice is welcome. Thanks again for being such an awesome community, you guys simply rock!
