I am switching from iPhone to Android and need a little bit of help importing my iPhone SMS to Android.
I used this website, http://faked.org/isms2droid/, to convert my sms.db file to xml. Then I installed SMS Backup & Restore app to restore my sms which is in xml format.
The issue I am having is with the SMS Backup & Restore app. It shows I am restoring about 10000 messages so it takes forever to restore. If the screen turn of (sleep), the restoration process freezes and I have to start all over again.
The biggest problem is that once it gets to 100% completion, it just hangs at 100% and doesn't finishes. When I go to see my Messages, I see my old message and the new ones are being loaded very slowly.
The big issue is that even when connect to the charger, the battery is being drained and complete restoration doesn't work.
This has always been a problem for me whenever I update or change the rom on my phone, I just flashed the latest version of TAEL ROM to my Att Fuze, but this time I tried to research what I could possibly do to try to fix this annoying problem. I tried the guide posted here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=420564
And it didn't work. By step 7 it looked like my phone was re-threading all of my text messages, took about 2-3 hours, but when I opened them up, it just had one side of the conversation yet again.
Is there anything I can do to re-thread my text messages AFTER restoring the backup?
i have newer version of captivate with gps fixed but few days ago it stopped sending text message although it can still receive text messages.
normally after sending message, it usually displays time stamp under the text but when it does not work it just displays "sending" as status indefinitely.
phone is rooted and has gingerbread i believe.
I also called customer center service and they did not see any issue from the point of service provider.
Anyone has experienced the issue? Thanks,
I'd have them check again to make sure that text is setup right on your account.
Beyond that what have you changed recently. Typically something like texting wont just stop working on the phone without something having been changed.
Is the ROM that's on there one you flashed? If so back it up, reflash to a clean state and see if text works. Then restore a bit at a time and see when it fails.

somebody also had this problem and he did a factory reset and he was able to send messages again but he is saying that he has lost his root although it's not possible
here is the link to thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1540652
DID factory reset and now can send message. but cant root it back. crappy phone. tried from both of my laptop and desktop machine using odin v1.81. problem never gets around captivate.
Do the heimdall flash of KK4 or Apex ROM. Same as stock, but with root and all the problems gone.
Ever since the ICS upgrade, one contact's message thread refuses to open and is stuck on "O Loading" with that little circle revolving.
I downloaded go sms pro before and I was able to access his thread through that and the message count wasn't over the maximum limit per contact. I've since gone back to the stock app as he's out of the country and it's faster than go sms pro but he recently txted me and caused the problem to occur with other contacts (though a reset of the phone solves their issue)
Does anyone have a solution and failing that, advice? I should say right now that deleting his message thread is the last resort.

You could try to backup your messages (you can find some apps for that in the market), then delete all your contacts, and afterwards restore them again~
Though no idea if it will work :/

Aye I could try it with a contact whose messages I don't mind losing and seeing if that works, thanks for the tip!
You can also use Google Voice, and have it copy all the messages to your Gmail account.

So I started backing up and restoring and I was able to open all contacts' threads. The backup never fully restores all messages though and I have to keep hitting "restore" so that it'll restore them all up to the present day. Don't know why it's doing it this way.
Just now I've checked and that one contact won't open again. What I might do is try and restore all to the present, delete loads of messages I don't want, and backup this new message history.
I know this is most likely far too late but I was having the same problems and found this thread while trying to sort it and hope it will help anyone else in future who has the same problems. I tried backing up and restoring (Using both the default and sms back-up and restore) deleting the thread and restoring, eventually I solved it by installing handscent, deleting the messages sent/received back to when the problem started in that thread and a few before, then went in settings, apps, then all, messages cleared the cache, restarted and it is sorted!!

Yeah it never resolved itself but I love the customisation of go sms pro so much that I don't mind anymore. Pity go sms pro crashes every so often and I think it slows the phone down.
I was going to start a new thread but see that this is the same problem I have.
I have a mt4gs (Doubleshot) and the problem described in this thread has happened twice. Both times i was receiving a text message and did something else with the phone at the same moment, and it seems to have jammed up the receipt of that text. The first time, i sent a text to the person at the same moment i received one. The second time, i locked the screen at the moment one arrived. Now that thread never loads, and loading other threads or contacts takes much longer than it should. In fact, i don't think contacts would ever load if i were willing to wait forever.
The first time I backed up the texts, reset the device, and restored, and everything worked fine, but that's a really time-consuming process and it seems like a ridiculous workaround for some broken buffer or queue in Android messaging.
It seems that there must be a direct fix for this. If it's easy enough to break messaging that it has happened to me twice, it must be a fairly common problem. But a search has turned up nothing but people saying there are too many messages or to use an alternative app for messaging. That's (1) incorrect and (2) again an ugly workaround for a problem with core functionality.
So i originally had my phone rooted, but after a couple months of having my phone bother me about updating, i decided to do it. Needless to say, I lost root. I was planning on rooting it again, but my phone got knocked out of my hand and fell, cracking the screen and making it useless (no more touch and screen won't power on). So now i'm trying to pull my contacts and my text messages from the phone, but since it's not rooted, I can't figure out a way to do it. Also, i tried going through adb, but it keeps saying "device not found", even though my phone still powers up and works (I can tell because I keep getting text messages and my phone rings. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can get my information off the phone and on my pc? I've also tried using 'MyPhoneExplorer', but it can't find my phone either.
Your contacts will be backed up to your Google Account, but not your texts unfortunately

I've used this app for years:
SMS Backup and Restore
It doesn't back up MMS though (picture messages). You can manually save any pics sent to you via text to your SD card using every text app I've seen, including the stock ones. That said, I suspect by now there are apps that will back up MMS.
Looks like the stock Messaging app can save text messages as well....
