Gents,
Seeing as it seems all vid conf software is not working yet. The HTC EVO 4G comes with software pre-loaded from Qik. It supposedly will work Android to Android with the front camera. Can someone rip the .apk off the phone and try it with two tabs?
Like everyone else, I would love to get at least android to android video conf to work.
i find that fring is more useful than qik. fring can go from android to iphone. link for fring apk
I don't have a g-tab yet, but from my understanding fring doesn't work. The audio makes it unusable.
Seeing as I don't have a tab yet, can someone try this on their tab and let me know if it works properly? It is supposed to be the video version from the EVO.
Yahoo messenger works for video calls. Though you have to hold the tablet in portrait
Good to know, thanks. Seems like the best mobile/tablet/desktop option at the moment. How is the video quality over 3G? 4G?
Is it just me, or is there a screen/webcam orientation problem? When using yahoo messenger the other party sees me sideways, 90 degrees off, when I rotate the image is still off by 90 degrees. When in the camera app the image is inverted, in landscape mode the image is correct, when I rotate the gtab the image is inverted (I'm upside down).
It's obvious that most of these video chat apps were written assuming the end user would hold the device in portrait mode with the lens over the screen, however, viewsonic installed it over the screen in landscape, but should have converted the image somehow.
I'm considering cracking the gtab open and rotating it myself, hopefully this should take care of it.
Does anyone have this same issue?
I have the same issue. As I am not totally thrilled with yahoo messenger, I am waiting until Google talk or skype come out with a better product.
One thought...had you tried to turn off auto rotate prior to starting the chat? I was going to do this, but havent gotten around to it.

BTW, I am running the latest Vega Tab ROM. Superfast, super cool, thanks to all the Devs!
LOL, I called gtab customer support about this and his only recommendation was to sear XDA for a solution.

Thanks, but tried both patches on their respective roms and still no luck. I find it weird that no one's reporting this and yet I had 2 tablets and both with same results.
I am having a strange issue with video call in Talk. When I use the front facing camera, the image position inside the rectangle is fixed and goes out of focus when the tablet is moved. Only way I can get the video to work is if i keep the tablet perfectly still, which defeats the purpose of the tablet. Is there a way to fix it?
The camera works fine otherwise.
i don't even know how to start video call? care to share how you're doing it now? did you download anything on the market?

Slide the hand above your image to the left. Should sort that out.
To the other poster, make sure the other person is on a computer or phone with compatible hardware + software.
ah that was easy...thanks m8

Did you download an appfrom the market? If not, what browser are you using tk launch google talk?
Finally,
Its available now.
Update your skype and enable it from the settings.
By default the Video is "off". So you will need to go the skype settings and enable it from there.
The Quality of the video is not that great but well its a start
I tried it on my G2x running CM7 nightly 151 and couldn't get it to transmit any video -- wouldn't even display locally on my screen in the little window that comes up in the lower left corner. I tried front and back cameras and even disabled video and re-enabled it. Still nothing. It may work on stock and may even work on later nightlies, I dunno. Google Talk video chat works fine for me so maybe Skype requires some updated libs?
Just passing on my experience.
I see that the front camera orientation while video calling is upside down. Anyone to confirm my observation???

I have the same thing going on as you, except I'm on Weapon G2x (2.3.3 Rom), it said skype wasn't 'officially supported' on my phone though. Nice to see it's almost there though
yup....on tweaked stock now...but Camera is upside down...

True, but if you turn the phone in landscape mode the video will be in the correct position.

Not just landscape mode, you gotten disable rotation and zooming to make video work properly? Anyone receive a SMS through carrier while on video chat and and video get distorted? Mines did but MAYBE because I wasn't on wifi, my thought only..

realized that in a skype conversation. my Phone is now complete!
Just tried it on a Froyo rom and I saw my wife's video feed for like 3 seconds and then it made my phone reboot. So close ... yet so far.
I think one of the android blogs mentioned that it was only good for landscape.
I tested everything on Stock 2.3.3 and the only thing for video to show up correctly is in landscape mode. Leave the auto-rotate checked, it doesn't fix anything. Picture is so-so but at least FFC works which is better than nothing...
Interesting how they rolled it also out to the Nexus One (works and looks great) yet no FFC so what's the point? LOL
Nice! not great but something is better than nothing
Latest G+ update "FULLY" enables video hangout on mobile devices. Which means, now you can initiate a video conference over G+ using your phone
Now I remember sometime back on some ROM, I'd managed to see the video streaming up from my phone. But now I'm on vanilla DDKP2. It reboots as soon as the streaming starts. I mean.. FFC preview starts alright, but when we say "Join Hangout", it'll reboot.
Anybody here getting a different result? I'm sure there's a lot of people on lot many different ROMs. I really want to know which ROM could possible support this feature. This might be the first break-through for our phone !
Got it.. Start hangout with Rearview Cam preview, and later switch to FFC. Works We DO HAVE a break through

Sorry but it doesn't true. hangouts works if you put the phone in landscape to the left, and work both cameras, but appears a problem sending your image rotation, rotation issue again.... And if you put the device in portrait mode (vertical), phone reboots. At the moment, hangouts doesn't work.
100 % tested
Can any one report this issue to google+ team ?

I have noticed this problem a couple month ago but figured only today that I could post here.
So the issue is pretty simple to describe. When recording a movie, the focus moves just a little bit right after I click the record button.
So if get the focus straight before recording, the focus will move and the movie will be blurry.
It seems I can prevent this to happen if I focus manually, hold my finger on screen while I start recording with another finger. But it doesn't work 100%
Am I the only one with this issue? Any idea how to fix it?
When I found this out I was rolling with Chroma, since then I went back to stock but the problem is still there.
Thanks in advance for your help
Nobody?
I noticed a while back that when I take a photo using my text messaging app, it is constantly trying to focus. Yet, when I switch to my actual camera app, it will focus just fine. I would suggest trying a different app. I don't do much video, but I know what you are talking about. Its freaking annoying. Its already focused just fine but then its like it decides to just try again and it takes longer while you're recording. Definitely try a different camera app. There might be one with focus lock or something like that.
