Not sure if my SD card is partitioned or not? - General Questions and Answers

I used ROM Manager to Partition my SD card (I have clockwork recovery latest version),
I select 512 for EXT and 32 for Swap.
Phone reboots and when I check the file manager on my SD card, it reads my SD card has 7069M left.
? Help?
Is it partitioned? if so how can I make my apps Run off of it?

I'm not even going to waste my time on the first question.............
Second part about the apps:
you must have a ROM that supports apps2sd. You of course would know this if you took the time to read everything about what you are trying to do. All of this information is right here on XDA and can be found using the search function. I also found this great vid that will guide you through the steps needed to find information:

[Q] need help, with app2sd and or partitioning etc

hi Hopefully i am in Right section - not sure what is meant by Not posting a Rom ??
I have a Garmin Nuviphone a50 with android 2.1 , have successfully rooted phone with z4root, I am pretty sure I have partitioned my SD card tried on a mac with EXT-fuse and tried on a windows using mini-partition (as instructions on this site about Partitioning) both ways seem to work -
However here's my problem when i start up Link2SD application it always says :-second Partition not found - /dev/block/mmcblk0p2: - make sure you have 2 partitions both primary .
I partitioned with Fat32 and Ext2 (also tried with Ext3, Ext4 and few others) but always says same with link2sd.
Does anyone know how I can get my apps to SD card or what my problem is or have any suggestions . As i get that message space full so need to move some to SD card (phone supposed to come with 4gb internal memory, i have 16gb SD card also) why is it still full
Need help with Link2sd/app2sd and or partitioning

[FIX][CWM] Error: Unable to mount SDCARD in CWM (and CF-ROOT)

Hi people!
I have seen many people have a problem with the above mentioned error in CWM. Although there are any threads on the topic, none of them are really clear (and often speculate) the method to fix it. And there is a lot of confusion regarding the "sdcard" in the i9003. This is my attempt to clarify and provide a reasonable fix (which worked for my Class 10, 16GB Micro SD (SDHC)).
It goes like this:
-> Boot into CWM recovery
-> Choose any options pertaining to the external sd card (such as backup, restore or install file from .zip)
-> The command returns with an error about how it can't mount "sdcard".
Now, there are a few thing that you have to be mindful of:
1) The "sdcard" mentioned in CWM for the i9003 is actually the external sd card.
- It is done this way so that everything works with the external sd and not with the internal 2GB sd that is present on our phone.
2) The internal sd is referred to as "sd-ext".
3) This pertains to the CWM of our phone. After booting into Android, it is back to "normal".
I tried to do a format in Windows 7's default formatting tool with FAT32, exFAT and NTFS (just eliminate the possibilities) with "default allocation size". It didn't work. Even choosing a larger allocation size did not work.
The Fix:
-> The optimal recommended filesystem for an android SD Card is FAT32.
-> Using the "SD Formatter" (version 3.1 as of this writing) from the SD Association ended up solving my problems.
-> The download link, for Windows (A MAC version is also available), from their site is here. You have to click "I Accept" and accept the terms of the EULA (but who really reads those things anyway ) ?
-> Use a card reader (using your phone is not recommended), make sure you have selected the right card and that you have backed-up all the data on your card (incase you didn't know - formatting erases all your data!).
-> I chose "Quick format" under options and made sure "Format Size Adjustment" was off (These are available under "options").
-> It's done in a few minutes, and it works GREAT! :-D
Cheers people! Hope this clears up some stuff!
This thread deserves to be made a sticky thread...

Btw - nice job dude you explained it all very well!
Tapashocked via my gt-I9003 with a random keyboard of my choice !
Finally solution came..it works like a charm...thank you so much Bro..
I was bugged by the same problem a few moths ago....
I solved it by Going to Settings > SD card ad phone storage >SD CARD> Umount sd card > Format SD card....
@Lord: thanks mate!
@Symdroid: your welcome! Glad to have helped!
@Neojith: Yeah that usually works, but for some odd reason it didn't work for me last time.
Also, this works without fail even if your SD card is unrecognizable (or comes up as corrupt/damaged) in Android but is detected on the computer.

Man i dont hav any card reader....why cant i do this while it's inside the phone? :-(
Give it a shot... It may work (but be sure you're formatting the right card)!
I recommended a card reader as it is faster, and in most cases the card wasn't detectable by Android but was detectable using a card reader.

Got cranium ROM 3.1 and its not working on my phone. It shows the drive in the PC but i cannot access it. But the phone still reads whats on the SD card. It works well before with kPE...
kudos Erahgon, it worked!
FYI I didnt even use a card reader, used the phone itself (too lazy to search for a reader at home)
Srry guys, was outta town for a few days!
@vadexlux: Good to hear that it works from your phone as well!
@lbraddx : If it's not accessible even in Windows, your card is probably corrupted. Do a quick format in Windows, then use a data recovery software to recover your files. After that, format using the method in the first post, and remember to back-up your files.

cannot access from the phone. but when i flash with odin there is part saying 'error can't mount sdcard-skipped wipe data' but when i check the sd card from my pc its empty and i lost all my file in sd.
here another weird thing, you said the 'sdcard' in CWM is the external sd. I can't mount 'sdcard' but I can mount 'sd-ext'; when i took out my sdcard then I can't mount 'sd-ext'. so I think in my case 'sd-ext' is my sdcard. thanks for replying though. can you figure out my problem?

Flashing with ODIN? What were you flashing with ODIN? When you flash with ODIN it doesn't do anything to the external-sd card.
Have you done an internal-external sd swap? If so, and you want to flash a new firmware using ODIN, you must re-partition (i.e. Use the latona pit file) and then proceed with the flash. After the flash, you may once again swap the external and internal sd cards. I haven't tried this, so this is just my best guess. If this doesn't work, try using your old vold.fstab file (read this thread for more details).

still no luck
Fascinate owner here. Had the same issue with CWM red (3.x) and Green (4.x).
All I did was reformat the card in Android. You have to unmount it in Settings > SD Card. Then simply Format. All your data will be erased but CWM will be able to read your card again.
WOW... I have THAT trouble too (on a I9100!), read this (googled) post and think.. "hmmm.... all other works fine with the ext. SD-Card... that can't be the fix..."
BUT i test the fix and OMG!... Now all CWM troubles gone! PERFECT!
Thank you very very much! I love the XDA community! *smak* ;-)
Is there any way to do the same for the internal sdcard coz my external sdcard reads fine but internal phone memory as well as internal sdcard are corrupted!
WOW
hi dude..its works like..hapi man!!!Thanks alot!

I have been seaching for this problem, and I was lucky enough to come across your post. After formating my SD card within android, the problem is solved, and now I can backup to and restore from my external SD card. I am using Galaxy Tab 2.
Thank you!!

Problem with SD and SD ext mounting

OK, I got everything set up and it boots within 30 sec with my Gingerbread based MROM. But, I do not know why it can not show how much space my SD card (not the external one) has in the setting and it says that the SD card is unmounted. And for the camera, when I open it, it says that I have to put a SD card in order to use it (I assume that it refers to the external one), but my external SD card is already in my phone. Also, in the music app, when I open it, it says that my SD card is busy, which one it refers to? However, in the file manager, I still can able to see everything inside my external SD card while it says the SD card (not the external one) is empty. Really confusing... Can you guys explain all these?

if everything was working fine before you flashed the rom your on id start there..try restoring your backup and make sure you wipe caches and factory reset before the restore then see if everything is working..if so then reflash the rom and dont forget the caches wipe and factory before the flash.if its still not right maybe you have a bad download of the rom..try redownloading it or flash a different rom see how that works...also to be on the safe side wipe everything twice ..that way nothing gets left over that can cause glitches like that

Q: Swapping Ext sd card with internal memory

Hello, i am using SGS-3 (GT-i9300) with andorid 4.3 and 32gb memory card class 10, i read all the themes for how to do this bur it just not work. I read and make all from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1772234 step by step but no work.
I have rooted room
The room have init.d built in
I am using recovery Philz
I download and flash this file extsd2internalsd_fat32_gs3_8.zip
Restart and nothing hapends with the memory change
btw Samasung dont use fat32 he use generic hierarchical i try to formattit to fat32 but when the conecttion is from the phone there is no option for this, soo i dismount sd--card formatted it on fat32 directly without phone then put her back in phone and it show same: generic hierarchical format even she is not formatted after the mount
I cant find nowhere information how to be done for 4.3. Anything i found is old 3-monts and up. Can someone help me with fresh information and links ? :crying:

[Q] Missing 2nd Partition on my tablet...

Hi.. First of all I am new to this forum (actually a semi-noob on android stuffs) and I don't even know if I posted on the right thread (If I did please let me know or delete it or move it to where it should be and I'm sorry).
I've been searching for a while all over the internet to find a solution on how to recover the missing 2nd partition on the internal storage of my tablet but I can't seem to find a solution. How did I end up missing my 2nd partition? I think this is what happened:
1.) I installed a custom rom (cm10) on my shw-m180s, and it worked fine at first. I was able to download apps until my internal phone storage got full so I decided to make a partition on cwm (so that I can put some data files and apps there by using link2sd).I went to recovery mode then I put 2gb as ext and swap file as 256mb (if I'm not mistaken) because I have a 16gb internal sd card (I don't have external sd card though), after that, I rebooted then checked if I am able to use the ext part but I was not so sure so what I did was to do a full wipe and deleted everything (data, cache, dalvik cache, other format options on storage) then reflashed the original stock rom.
2.) Now I manage to use my stock rom and checked if I managed to restore the 2gb ext, but no, it didn't show on my internal memory. It only shows 14gb (or 12.68gb to be exact). So clearly the 2gb just went to some place I don't know where exactly and I don't think it was completely gone maybe just hidden somewhere in my tablet. I installed link2sd to check the partitions and it says that SD Card 2nd Partition not found.
3.) Tried to reformat the sd card through laptop (even used minitool partition but that too didn't work) and now I am stuck. I can't seem to find a way to recover that 2gb internal memory.
Hoping to find some answer here in xda where there are lots of experts and good people that helps others.
Have a nice day everyone.
