Just a heads up. Have always been a fan of xScope Browser but gave it up for a while as the new xScope 6 seemed buggy to me.
Not sure what has changed with recent updates, but the latest version is FAST, really really FAST. Also, lots of cool features. Anyway, check it out in the market. The bookmarking feature takes a little getting used to as it uses HTML to represent bookmarks, but I'm sure that is one reason it is so fast - less overhead. When working with bookmarks, the controls for how they appear are on the bottom of the page. You can do icons, lists, etc...
Also, it has tabs and if you press and hold a tab, all kinds of cool options appear.
Tried it, slow. Im running calkulins 1.6.1 and its about 4 times faster than xscope. Are you rooted ? It is faster than a stock ego but in my opinion its not even close to rooted.

Isn't calkulin a rom? xScope is a browser. How can you compare the two?

I m using Xscope 6.21 and I am unable to view /data/ folder using its folder view. Though I can see all apks in /system/app. Is it supposed to not show data folder?
I've always been a fan of xscope, it has great media download options and a nice simple ui. Latest update supports themes, so expect for nice themes to be rolling out like the older versions. I think its built based off the stock browser just with some extra features.

Yeah the stock browser in calkulins new rom is faassst, I thought cyanogen and miui were fast but they don't even compare. Im a little off topic so my bad.
Is it possible to change the default google search from international to local(Aus)?

I installed Dolphin(again) at a friend's suggestion and found it to be too busy and although fast, not noticeably faster than the Evo's default browser. But now I wonder if I'm missing something? Does the Evo's browser suck that much? I have to admit, I hate that window limit but still, not enough to make me switch.

Dolphin HD browser.

Dolphin hd
Hmm I have never tried any browser besides stock...gonna try dolphin HD but I have to say....the bookmark widget doesn't look promising
i've been pretty content with skyfire, i love the button that switches between android and desktop views. i haven't tried dolphin yet though.
I like Dolphin, but sometimes I perfer a simple and fast browser also known as xScope.
I really liked dolphin before it added the sidebar. I always end up activating the sidebar when I don't want it, and sometimes it breaks scrolling.
I started loading the AOSP browser from bugless beast on my phone and love it. It is just the stock browser like the N1, and it doesn't show previews of the windows, but it does allow 8 windows instead of 4.
Stock for me.

I use Dolphin HD even though it fails miserably at downloading things. I wish there was a fast, easy way to clear the browser defaults like there is with the launchers.
I use Dolphin HD the most due to its features but it has a tendency to sit around and not do anything after you click a link. You'll think you missed the click and then 10 seconds later, it'll wake up and decide to start loading the next page. No idea why it does this. Happens every so often.

Yes! this is exactly what bugs me. The stock browser doesn't do this. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.
Love Dolphin HD, except for that clicking problem, glad I'm not the only one. Tried Skyfire once and it seemed slow and clunky, pinch zoom was delayed, and didn't adjust text to wrap on the screen.
Xscope is great, fastest one I've tried and works just like chrome.
Yeah I love the stock browser's speed but it is seriously lacking features. I used to use Dolphin HD but the lag was horrible. Now I use the regular Dolphin Browser (NOT HD). This browser is fast (not quite as fast as the stock browser but much faster than the HD version) and has almost all the features of Dolphin HD. It's funny because they say Dolphin HD is optimized for 2.1 but the regular one is way faster.

Hey guys. Firefox 4 has finally released a beta 1 for android devices. For those who are curious before you try, I figured I would update this with a little information on Firefox for android and what you can expect from this beta. After all, its a huge install
-No flash support yet (yet)
-Pinch to zoom has been added (was left out in alpha builds)
-Swiping to the right on any page brings up your open tabs. This will display windows in a small thumbnail which you can close right from there. You can also start a new tab from this area.
-Swiping to the left on any page brings up a few options. The ability to bookmark, back and forward buttons, along with a settings icon to change settings.
-One big plus of firefox mobile that has been added is firefox sync. This allows you to login and sync your browser information with your Firefox browser on your PC.
-Set font. I thought I would mention this since seemed to have mixed reviews on it. There is a font set in the browser, aside from your current system font. Personally, I don't mind it. Its clear, so it works.
-Add-ons! If you're familiar with Firefox desktop then you're familiar with add-ons. Well Mozilla has brought add-ons to Firefox Mobile as well.
-Find in page / share page links easily accessible from hitting "menu" on any page
-Tapping on the address bar brings up bookmarks / history / desktop tap for easy access. This will keep the address bar highlighted in which you can simply search a keyword or enter a website. If you again press menu while this field is highlighted, Firefox will give you options of sites to search for your keywork. Google / wiki etc.
Keep in mind, this is still a BETA release. It has come a long way since the alpha builds, but doesn't seem quite ready for prime time just yet. Grab it and let us know what you think!
You can grab it here : http://bit.ly/9mBett

Apps 2 SD support is there...so don't worry about the pain it will pass. Won't use as default browser until performance refinements are made as well as user string options and flash support.

look promising, i like the sync option. but it is slow .
using fresh and only fresh
I'm using AvaFroyo9 and the browser seems very smooth, in fact I'de use it as my default if it currently supported flash.
Update: After further testing, it appears to lag when typing in text fields. Also text boxes with drop down menus do not appear as they should.
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
I used the alpha for a week or so and it was absolute crap.
I downloaded this beta earlier today and it is absolutely the fastest browser I have used on Android (and I have used them all)! It renders perfectly and might become my new fav. I'm an avid Dolphin user, but this might make me switch.
Thus far the potential drawbacks include no flash and doesnt appear to close when you go to another program. (Don't know if that is a battery issue or not as I haven't had it long enough.)
In any case, I recommend checking it out.
Update: I'd still recommend playing around with this browser, but it definitely has a ways to go to catch up to Dolphin. Lots of odd little quirks, like struggles with Swype.

It's not ready for primetime, but it's on the right track imo.
not the fastest browser out there... it actually lags a lil bit more than stock or skyfire in cm6, but not by much, once it renders it is really smooth tho. Im a fan of firefox and i know that when they get to the final release it will probably be the best browser for android. especially with the sync and add-on features
I've tried it out, feels goo to see it there. But not for me lol. I'll look forward to future builds of it. Hope they'll get speed improvements in there.
Tried it and removed. Love FF, but until its more polished I'll stick with Dolphin HD.

what stock apps are not good?
I was told to upgrade internet browser. I heard the best choices are either "opera" or "dolphin." Never used either of these on my computer. I use Firefox and it's the best. But it looks like the Firefox mobile is poorly rated.
What about the music player?
any others you suggest?
I am rooted.
anyone suggestions???
Anything a stock phone comes with, that isn't removable, or can't be replaced, isn't good. Usually. The stock browser on ICS, however, is wonderful.
I've read that opera is good, but I use DolphinHD. Much better than stock.

doesn't a different launcher consume more battery life?
also I am froyo 2.2.2 if anyone needs to know.

I recommend using ADW for a launcher and Handcent for a messaging app, they're both loads better than the stock apps.

What Stock apps are not good? Totally depends on you, whether you use them or there maybe some rom apps we don't even touch at times. You can remove them by rooting your phone and using some app like Titanium-Backup for removing those.
Well maybe launchers consume more battery but if you wanna get a new UI look its definitely a worth adding app.
And about the browser. Well I'll suggest you to go with DolphinHD or Opera.
Though Chrome will be my preference but Its available only for ICS4. So for the meanwhile you can go with DolphinHD or Opera.
there are 2 versions of both opera and dolphin, both highly rated on android market. Which is better?
I have froyo 2.2.2 and I am rooted. I will upgrade to stock gingerbread when I figure out though. if that helps.
My suggestions would be DolphinHD, go with that!
And I assume, your phone Optimus 3D has got Gingerbread 2.3 update rolling.

My recommendations
Well I use Opera for movbile sites and Dolphin for any diesktop site i need to access on my phone !!
For music app u can use the MIUI app ! it is amazing
but if u r froyo go for song bird !! i just love that app
ok I got dolphin HD. It is a million times better than stock one and seems a bit faster.
I also got winamp for music player, but honestly I see no improvement over stock player. The album art on both winamp and stock player is low quality, when the actual images on the phone or my computer are HD. That annoys me. sound quality / speed no difference. probably will uninstall winamp.
I also got Go Launcher. I googled a few threads between go launcher, adw, and launcher pro. I will test this one out if I am happy I will keep it.
thanks
For browser try Dolphin or Maxthon. Dolphin looks better but Maxthon's tabs are better than Dolphin's.
For music player, player pro is beast. MIUI music player is good too.
For launcher, go launcher is the most customizable of all that I've tried but is bloated and slow. Alternatives are adw and launcher pro. The ones that I like though are Nemus and 360 launcher. Both are light and smooth. I'm using 360 right now. Take note though that it's still in beta if ever you try it.

stock apps too much using ram , so your rom will be laggy

After I installed the latest update which I think is JellyBean the ICS+ browser doesn't work. I uninstalled and reinstalled and it just crashes when the program is ran. Dolphin and Firefox still works, but I was getting used to the ICS+ browser. Anyone else have this problem or are there any other browser alternatives out there? Dolphin is really nice and I'll probably stick with that if I have no choice. Hey, at least flash works! I bust my girlfriends chops all the time about her iPad not having flash and some of her web pages just look horrible with Safari. She could never find an alternative browser for her iPad. Apple makes it very difficult to find programs that replace the core stuff on the iPad. A huge negative and one of the many reasons why I love Android so much better then ios.

Stock browser is just as good now imo. What are you missing that ics+ gives you?
It was called ICS+ (Ice Cream Sandwich +) for a reason. It was an extension of the ICS browser. I used myself as my primary, but yest with Jelly Bean the ICS browser is different, and as stated before it is shown in the app description that it will not work on JB. Now that said. I do hope they might make a JB+, but really the JB browser works just the same for me, without the home button.

One of the features that I miss to this day is an extended version of "Quick Controls" -- the controls option you can turn on in Settings / Labs that displays a semi-circle pop-up menu when you tap right right or left edge of the screen. In the stock browser, the menu is very limited, with just a few functions. In ICS+, you could choose to add / activate numerous functions and customize your installation pretty extensively. It was very powerful, and very useful. At the time, it became a must-have feature for me, and I wound up preferring ICS+ to Dolphin, Firefox, Maxthon, etc. Really miss ICS+ and hope dev considers implementing a JB version.

If you're not rooted you can't use browser2ram, but honestly, I don't think it's needed to apply this tweak. Good luck!
I'm so disappointed by chrome , I've been using it for quite a while ,it was unusable on my galaxy nexus ,then it got almost OK on the nexus 4 and now I have my nexus 5 and the performance is still poor , the scrolling is not smooth , its choppy ,sometimes the websites stop responding , the app feels ... Heavy
Ive been using Firefox for a few months and although the scrolling is noticeably better than chrome's it still has its issues , sometimes the text looks blurry and until it fixes itself you can't click on links on the browser , I attached a picture so you guys can see , pay attention to the "next page"button (on the bottom with the rest background ) ,it became unclickable , Firefox crashes sometimes too .
To make things even worse the aosp browser which performance was light years ahead of Chrome's now shares Chrome's poor performance because Google made some changes and now it uses the chromium engine
I don't know what to do ,I become so upset when I use the browser on iOS /windows phone , I love kit Kat but seriously Google make chrome on android just as good as chrome on desktop :banghead:

I'm giving chrome beta a chance , maybe it's placebo effect but I feel it is a bit more responsive than the stable version , something I don't understand is why does the browser refreshes every time I switch to another app and then come back to the browser , it doesn't even remember my scrolling position ,very annoying , I don't understand 2 GB should be enough to keep the browser in memory :/
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Use Next browser, been using it since I got the Nexus, works really well and the start screen looks really professional, you can open it up and google search something straight away, really handy
Try Dolphin
I have tried various browsers including Chrome, Opera, Opera Mini, and Maxthon, but settled on Dolphin on my One S and, now that they've fixed some KitKat bugs, on the Nexus 5.
Dolphin is fast and smooth (ver. 10.2.1) although the UI is a bit awkward. Not as bad as Chrome's though. Unfortunately Dolphin doesn't even have a way to import bookmarks from other Dolphins on the same device. Nevertheless, it does seem very good, and much better than Chrome.

UPDATE: I take it all back; I accepted an update for Jetpack and now none of the Dolphin browsers I have--Dolphin, Dolphin Beta, Jetpack--will play html or flash videos. I am trying UC Browser which is really fast, even compared to Dolphin, but doesn't seem to respond automatically to links from other apps--e.g., google's gmail app or the google search app that came on the N5; you have to copy and paste the url manually into the browser. Obviously unacceptable.
