Hello.
I am using HTC Desire (hero) rooted with latest cyanogen mod.
i`m running out of internal memory, i already have app2sd installed but and moved everything to sd.
i was wondering if there is any trick that lets say, i could make a small partition on my sd card, format that partition with EXT filesystem and that this partition will be added to my internal memory?

I've brought my sdcard from my old HTC Magic. There (using cyanogenmod) it was partitioned to have swap, ext4 space for apps2sd and storage space as vfat. I did not repartitioned the card since I started using my Defy but it ran out of space already.
The question is - do I need swap and apps space or shall I repartition my card to have only storage space for the defy? I'm using Jboogies rom, if that matters.
You do not have to partition your MicroSD card at all.
Shouldn't need apps2sd or space in sd card for applications. Defy has over 1g available rom space out of factory.
Hello,
I have secondary partition on my SD card with ext4 filesystem on it.
With help of Link2SD i can use this partition for installed apps.
So the question is, when i create a backup with 4EXT (currently installed) or CWM does it include links and actual files from the SD card?
Got also a ext and ext1 seems to be a strange mounting problem..
It works but s2e cannot find the ext patition..

Hi,
4EXT nandroid backup takes a complete snapshot of your phone system, settings, data, and apps.
It does NOT make a backup of your sd card.
So, I would think that if you restored the backup, and you had not moved the apps in your ext4 partition, then they would match up again.
Why are you using an ext4 partition, anyway?
Isn't 1 GB of space on the phone enough for you?
software logic
well,
in linux filesystem, and in windows nowdays too, any storage can be mounted anywere, so if backup software differentiate external storage vs internal storage, it probably should follow symlinks and backup application from extended filesystem as well.
it could be a feature request
I used the MiniTool Partition Wizard H.E. to partition my sd card. My sd card is 4GB, I resized it into 2965MB so my internal memory free space is 1GB. When I flashed ICS (4.0.3) from kabalban I download 5 apps (not games) and it ate all of my free space in my phone (internal memory 198MB, free space 21MB -_-)
Please help thank you!

I have an ext3 of 512MB and it works just fine, I don't tried installing applications on the ICS ROM but it recognized those I installed on the CM 7.1.5...
Oh, and I used Gparted, you can also try using S2E to move the applications, its on the market ...

How big is your ext3 partition? As I recall, it will only work if it is less than 1Gb. Anything more is excessive, unnecessary, and non-functional

On a 16GB SD card I have a 2 GB EXT3 partition and it works just fine.
I used GPartEd to partition the card.
So I think he should try GPartEd, make sure the EXT3 partition is the 2nd one and if there are still problems try a different SD card.
You were in the same situation I was in when I had the milestone. Here is the answer.
Unlike phones like the HTC Desire the milestone does not support a2ext. Therefore. Your internal storage will always be very low. However apps that are big will automatically be moved into the ext partition so you don't actually have to worry about running out of space

There are flashable script which make the Milestone display internal memory of up to 1GB - but they are not compatible with CM
Creating an ext partition is much easier. I've got a ~520MB ext part. on HO!NO! mod an for me it is fine

Is there a similar script "internal memory hack" like fit droid 3.5 for Cyanogen Mod?
RE
do you mean a way to install apps to the sd card?
you must make a ext partition in you sd card (CWM can do it) and after that use S2E (aviable at google play). it requires to be root, but if you use CM7 of course that you're root
Do you know the rom Fit Droid 3.5? Specifically, there is an overclock module which includes memory patch. This memory patch makes the internal memory sd-ext and vice versa. So what ever size you make the sd-ext, that is your internal memory. In plain words it reverses the internal memory with the sd-ext. Now my question again: Is there something similar for CyanogenMod?

why do u want to swap memory !
just increase the internal memory to whatever value u want by increasing the size of sd-ext ! and move it using s2e !
Hi all.... I haven't found specific answers to my questions so am posing them here.
I am running CM11
Can you expand your internal storage without doing an entire ext sd card to internal swap? I want to use only part of my ext SD card to enhance the internal storage.
Is there any point in formatting multiple partitions on the ext SD card as fat32 / ext4 / Linux swap anymore? I thought doing this would have part of the partition used for internal storage and part as the ext sd card storage. Formatting the SD card through CWM deletes all partitions and formats it all as FAT32 for external storage only.
Thanks and go Blaze haha

You can partition your SD card on your pc into pieces that android won't recognize..follow this as a guide..the program is fantastic

Thanks ink. I will look at this more tonight but I did use Partition Wizard Home and formatted the first partition as FAT32 which is recognized as the external SD card1 in CM11 but the 2nd EXT4 partition isn't recognized by the ROM it seems. Maybe I just don't know how it would be used but checking the storage in settings didn't have any change to internal.
