I just wanted to say that.
Why?
Yesterday, I tried to switch ROMs from the Darkyy's Raw Steel to the latest Cognition.. I disabled the lag fix, hoping there wouldn't be any problems, and tried to flash with clockworkmod..
Lo and behold, the damn thing wouldn't get past the AT&T screen.
So I reverted to the cable and odin.. Tried to install an older Cognition ROM with odin.. fail.. fail.. fail.. about 100 times on my Windows 7 64-bit machine..
I spent a lot of time searching these forums, and found many posts that said many things.. Including:
Keep trying.. It will work eventually.
Reinstall the drivers..
Try different USB ports..
Try Windows XP
Keep trying.. It will work eventually.
Try a rear USB port.
Keep trying.. It will work eventually.
Use the plugin cable, insert battery while pressing all 3 buttons, and release power.. ('instant' download mode.. And it really does get into download mode faster if you do it right..)
Keep trying.. It will work eventually.
Between my Windows 7 machine and my Windows XP machine, I tried to odin one-click to JI6/JF6 between 200 and 300 times yesterday..
Finally, I was able to get it to install.. So then I installed the 2.3b3 Cog ROM, and that worked, and I was finally able to upgrade to 2.3b6.
So... I'd like to thank you all for having so many different threads in these forums that have so much searchable information. I didn't have to make a 'How do I unbrick my phone' thread, and add to the confusion of everyone else who may be trying to search for ways to fix their phone.
I would, however, like to thank G1rome for the encouragement you gave in private messages. Yeah.. I messaged him out of the blue because he offered to help someone else via PMs in a thread that came up when I was searching for unbrick info.
So..
Thanks folks! I would not have had the patience to keep trying if it weren't for this community.

If you still had access to download mode, it was never really bricked to begin with...
This has been a huge help my Cousin's Captivate is having issues on Cognition I'll do this tonight and I've been considering the Rom you're using and you just made up my mind flash back to stock, reroot, and flash that Rom.
not development related, not bricked (bricked means the phone won't turn on), this is the exact same procedure that's already been discussed over a million times on this forum.
if you can get into download mode and you have access to ODIN (or even heimdall) you aren't bricked. ODIN requires windows, heimdall does not. Installing windows through bootcamp is no different than just having a windows PC in the first place.
Not really a dev thread but the user is simply sharing his experiences and how he solved an issue. Flaming him is not really necessary even if this procedure was already posted before.
Thread moved to General.
kinda true but if you're a mac user without windows, you are bricked unless u have access to windows or you pay someone to fix your phone or buy a new one, cant return to at&t with a rooted capy!
sorry if i posted my thread in the wrong forum, i thought since i rooted my capy it should belong under development.
@Kaik541: thanks for the heimdall tip

Was odin 1click open before u plug the usb cable while pressing the volume buttons? My phone doesn't mount to macbook pro anymore but wakes my computer from sleep when plugged in. does mount on my imac, bootcamp xp2 and powerpc but self eject when copying or selecting files on bothSD cards. Copying files from MAC to SD is fine.

Ok so in trying my first go at designing a ROM I screwed up somewhere along the way. I currently cannot boot into CWM, but the phone will boot into download mode. GTGs Ultimate UnBrick kept freezing so I unzipped the files and attempted to Heimdall them (sounds dirty dont it)
With heimdall i get the error message of the factory fs/rfs being an unexpected size. 288 instead of 287 About to try a flash with that portion left out. But If anyone has ideas or knows how to fix. I'd reallt appreciate it
Out of curiosity, how far was Odin getting before freezing when you were trying gtg's unbrick procedure? I'm not familiar with Heimdall so I can't help from that angle but I've used GTG's procedure MANY, MANY times. LOL.
it was getting to about 75-80% done and it would hang...and just as an Fyi I wasnt jumping the gun..when I timed it that was at about 2hrs when I figured it wouldnt progress any further

Using the gtg files currently on your computer, you've been successful with gtg's unbrick procedure before? If not, I'd try downloading them again or from another source. I can PM you the zip I have successfully used before if you want. Just let me know. I'm just trying to rule out the possibility of a corrupt download.
thanks for the offer but yeah Ive used this set before, several times as a matter of.fact
..Ive also tried using 3 seperate Dl's as well from 2 diff PCs. Just for that reason. Ive also tried running it directly from within the zip file as well as extracting and running..If i figure it out I'll be sure to post what worked, you never know what might help someone else.

Are you running Odin as admin?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA App
I have/had it set to run as admin under the properties. It turns out that the battery had gotten low enough so that there wasnt enough of a charge, for the Ult. Unbrick (or any flash) to complete. Phone is notorius for suck up juice faster then it charges. I left it plugged into the wall for like 6 hours before trying again. Lo and behold unbrick ran and completed in about 5 mins.
However now Ive got another issue..Phone will not recognize the SIM card. I have had it in my iphone 3g while ifuse was down so I know that it works but when I switched it back to the infuse its a no go...looks like another sleepless night spent reading and researching
I've been trying to fix my phone all day. I've flashed NUMEROUS times, and I was on the latest Valhalla Black (1.6, I think) before the switch to the new hybrid version.
I tried to flash the new 3.2 this morning and I've been stuck on the Galaxy S 4G screen all day....I can't even flash any other ROMs.
I can't get the drivers to install on my Win7 laptop---it says device is malfunctioning. I've tried 32 bit, which is correct and even tried 64 bit...nothing works...I need my phone for work and school.
Please help! I'll donate to whoever can walk my dumbass through this. I've searched through the forums and none of the answers I've found help my situation.
Thanks in advance!

I posted this to the other thread... PM me for me help if needed...
Download this. It has the drivers and Odin in it as well as stock KG4 (the PDA, Phone and CSC files). Just don't use the PIT file. That should sqaure you up...
Someone please please help me. I am in desperate need of a solution. And before I lay out the issue I am having, I would like to thank everyone for taking their time to read through my post and give their input. I truly appreciate it everybody. Much much thanks.
Just as a disclaimer, I've looked all over the internet, everywhere I can possibly find for days on end, and none of what I found worked for me. It feels like I tried everything there could be, and that is why I am coming here. Again, thank you.
So here's a little background information: I have a Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4 (SCH-I545). I got the phone over the summer, and as soon as I received the phone I was updated to the apparently dreadful VRUMAE7 update. There afterwards, I tried rooting the phone. I've had rooting experience before with decent success, and never ran into problems like I did. It took awhile for me root my S4, but after awhile I was able to successfully root it. Although, I'm pretty sure I may have done something wrong. You will see why shortly.
So a week or two back, my S4 prompted me to update to the next update. I believe it was Android 4.3 (VRUEMJ7). I was very excited for the update and tried running it. But every time I accepted the update and tried updating, my phone went into Recovery to download the new update and stalled out with an error. Thereafter I would have to reboot the phone to get it working again. After failing to update multiple times, I realized that it is probably because I messed up my root. So without doing much research, I simply tried flashing the stock firmware that came with my phone thinking it should work pretty flawlessly.
I have a Mac OS, so using VmWare Fusion with Windows 7, I downloaded Odin and booted up my phone on Recovery mode, downloaded the stock VRUMAE7 firmware I found online, and began flashing. But Odin threw me a error, so I tried rebooting my phone thinking it would go back to normal. BUT this time, it kept going into recovery mode with a yellow Triangle saying firmware was installed incorrectly, etc. I was so frustrated at this point, thinking that I truly may have bricked my phone.
I began on this long journey of going through all the sources I could find online possible, downloading every type of Verizon S4 firmware I can find, trying every Odin method possible, and spending long long hours of the night biting my fingers at my dreadful fate. I even tried flashing the stock PIT File along with my stock firmware, to see if that would fix it. But no luck. I also tried using a standard windows machine rather than VMware, still with no luck.
I ask you all to please suggest any ideas, thoughts, or inputs you possibly can. I am willing to try anything and everything at this point. Please do help. I appreciate you guys reading through my lengthy question, sorry for that. Just wanted to lay everything out.
Thank you very very much.

Hi there,
it seems an easy problem but do it at your own risk I don't take responsibility of bricked device, etc
so lets go with what you need:
A- Odin [I believe you already have it]
B- stock rom go to this site:
androidayos.com/samsung-galaxy-s4-odin-stock-firmware/
and choose the suitable stock rom based on your Baseband version
C- Drivers installed for your device [if your mac/laptop recognizes your device then skip this step if not google it,download the drivers and install them]
IMPORTANT:Make sure you have 80% or more on battery
after you get these stuff install the device drivers as mentions in C then turn your device off and power it while holding volume up it should take you to download.now open odin and navigate it to the rom which you downloaded from B and flash it .wait for green color to appear and your back to your stock now it should open normally hope that I helped
I've been getting help in the Newbie thread, but it's time I start a new topic, since it's getting harder and harder to find replies.
All I'm trying to do is upgrade an old LG from Android 5.0 to 6.0. That's it.
I've got the drivers installed. I've downloaded three different versions of Flash Tool. The only one I got to do anything was "Flash Tool 2014".
The first time I ran it (following the directions on the web page where I found it), I picked "CDMA", "DIAG", and "CSE Flash". I was able to pick "Other Country" and "English" and got the phone to start installing. However, it only got as far as 4% and gave me an error. Now, when I run it, I pick "Other Country" and can't even pick a language. They're all blank. If I continue, all the messages consist of Question Marks, however, it still gets as far as 4% before stopping.
The phone is bricked in Download Mode. I have tried two different USB cables, two different computers, one of which has Windows 7 & 8.1 installed. I've tried all different USB ports to make sure I'm on USB 2.0 and not 3.0. I've tried running in Administrator Mode.
I see many posts about the 4% Error. The solution involves downloading a "wx.dll" file and putting it in the C:\system32\LGMOBILEAX\PHONE folder, but that didn't work. I also so one that said when you get the error, take the battery out of the phone, unplug it, put it all back together, and then Continue. That didn't work either.
What else can I possibly do? Thanks.
Hey, I have been trying to find a rom for 6.0 and I can't find anything. The only way to get to 6.0 is through ota. If you have 5.0 then your lucky. Ota can only be used if you still have a sim card that's active in the phone. There isn't roms for stock android 6. I would try and help but I can't.
If anyone finds away to get stock 6.0 please let me know.
Talking about your issue of your phone being bricked, there is many unbrick methods. I personally used https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...n-qualcomm-hs-usb-qdloader-9008-mode.2933853/ it helped and fixed my issue. I still had my device info wiped off my phone somehow but at least it works. Your at a issue with a flash tool, fresh reflash with that method I sent if you can use it and start over. I can guide you through it if needed.
You might be stuck at a stand still, tell me what your phone says in device manager. You probably flashed a bad firmware. In that case I used the method above.
