Hi guys,
I've googled with no results and I've tried contacting the devs with no results.
I bought Tasker from the android market with one very important reason;
I want Tasker to turn off my 3G/HSDPA connection and have it switch to GPRS only when I turn the display OFF. And let it switch back to 3G/HSPDA when I turn the display back ON.
Is this even possible, if not what else are my possibilties?
I'm also after this, I currently have it switch off mobile data when screen off, but that's not exactly what I'd like as things like google talk get disabled altogether....just switching down to 3g or less would be great. So "bump" I guess!

What is with this? I 've gone through several HTC phones on the EVO and everytime I lose my wifi. Anyone can help?
When do you lose the Wi-Fi?
I use the wi-fi in my house and it will maintain a constant signal.
UNLESS
It goes to sleep mode, then it turns off the wi-fi as well.
Whenever I bring it out of sleep, it always has to re-connect.
I don't know if there is some registry setting you can set to keep wi-fi turned on.
I think the risk is that it will drain the battery much quicker though.
I'm using the MAPL build 2.60 beta for a Dash 3G and the battery life is incredible.
You can make it stay on by going to: Comm Manager>Settings>WLAN Settings>Power Mode and unchecking the "Auto turn off..." box. And yes, it does suck the battery like a vampire and makes the phone HOT! You can also adjust how long it will stay on for after LCD OFF.
Wifi question
Hi, before i drive myself mad, I am convinced that my phone uses gprs for data, not wifi. And my bills seem to agree with me.
When I use things like MyPhone, either connected to my PC or connected to my wifi at home, it seems to appear on my bill as a data charge, which would indicate that it is using the network??
Am I right, wrong or stupid? Any help greatly appreciated.
Hi everyone,
I have been searching all day! No results.
What i am looking for is for my wifi connection to switch off automatically after xxx time if idle. sometimes i update stuff and forget my wifi on which drains my battery. i know that normally it switches off when device goes to sleep, but i set it to stay on in standby. useful when on msn.
Can somebody please point me to a solution for this.
Thanks
Yeah buy G-Profile its just 5 euro. And u can put on wifi or of by cell towers time, day, calender evement, or if an program starts running or if your computer is connected on activesynce, external power source, under a call.
You can do the same for the volume, blutooth, etc..
Great program

Switch Wi-Fi Mode. This new action allows switching Wi-Fi mode on and off. As well as Bluetooth and FlightMode, this action could be used at night, for example, for extending the battery life.
Try this - it may help.
Go to the settings tab, menu, all settings, connections, wi-fi and click "wireless networks". Go to menu, advanced and then you can set "Turn off wi-fi if not connected in:". It's set to never by default, but if you set it to a time then wifi will automatically turn off if it's not connected, after that period of time.
Hope this helps

It only applies when there are no available hotspots.

Yeah - I just reread the OP and see that he's talking about idle time. I use this so I can switch wifi on when I get home and forget about it. It turns off when I leave the house, which is ideal for me.

i appreciate all the suggestions. these are not what i am looking for.
let me try to explain this again. i switched on WiFi, useful it for mail, browsing etc.
left my phone aside and forgot to turn WiFi off. since the connection is not used for xxx of time , then WiFi should switch off automatically.
do you think this is possible?
same here, i want the same options, my older touch phones had it, but not this one, and i dont fell like installing another program just to schedule the wifi, when thats the only option i need.so now what i do is, Just try to remember to turn my wifi off, at night, and when not using. so your only safe option, other than installing external software is remember it. and it helps improve memory, so you'll remeber to take your pills when you get old
Hopefully this isn't as noobish as it sounds. I am looking for a very specific app, I need an app that turns my 3G network off and turns it on perhaps every hour, just long enough for my e-mail to sync, then turns it off again. I have tried juice defender, which I assume worked but I couldn't test it because it turned the data back on everytime the screen was on. Sometimes I just want my phone to receive texts and calls and leave the data (and the battery) for when I need it.
I found another app, that supposedly didn't turn the network off but changed some verification settings, this app didn't work (I could still browse the internet and refresh email.)
I currently use quick settings in order to quickly turn my data off, but I would like something that did it automatically.
Some help would be nice, if you need any more info let me know.
I don't really know if this is peculiar to Glorious Overload (which I've been running for a week or so) or is maybe a kernel problem on the Sidekick 4G.
I want my wifi to stay connected when the screen turns off. I've tried setting the wifi sleep policy to both "never" and "never when plugged in" with limited success. Seems to sometimes stay on and sometimes not. When it gets into the "sometimes not" state, the only cure I have found is rebooting the phone. Other than that, I haven't yet caught a pattern to it.
Anyone have any info or suggestions?
(For those wondering, I want wifi to stay on so that I can use the quite nice "AutoAir" app to turn off my 3G/4G data connection [to save battery] when I'm connected over wifi. And I want that because I'm trying to use "Groove IP" to do all my calls as VoIP, which is somewhat better over wifi when it's available.)
(For those who don't know how to set the wifi sleep policy, try Settings > Wireless and network > Wi-Fi settings. Then hit the menu button and select "Advanced".)
Well, I checked my advanced settings, and mines was on never. I know it's woring because I download a lot of crap, esp via torrent clients. And once I have wifi on, it doesn't use 4g anymore. When I turn it off, 4g comes back. Mind you, I don't use and switcher apps or anything of that matter.
Quite odd that you're having a problem, are you stock GO2?
Sent from my Sidekick 4G running PDT's Glorious Overdose.
Yes, stock GO2.
For me, the behavior is intermittent. Sometimes seems to stay on, but sometimes seems to "forget".
There seem to be a zillion "fix your wifi" or "keep your wifi on" apps in the market, so I am trying a few of those now. (Slow going due to the intermittent nature of the problem I'm trying to solve.)
I noticed at the end of your post that u want to turn off your data and keep your wifi on to save battery, but with our device having wifi on uses more power than data. Mainly because our data and our cell signal are on the same radio, so by turning off data you really are doing nothing, because your cell service is still using the radio, but now that you've turned on wifi you now have the cell/data radio on and your wifi radio on. Really the fact that our cell and data are in the same radio is great because it really cuts down on battery use. So there you go. Learn something new everyday. please thanks this post if you didn't know this or if it helped you.

You're right ... I didn't know that.
The other reason I want to keep the wifi on (apart from my faulty reasoning about battery life) is that VoIP is generally better over wifi. It's easy to get that arranged for outgoing calls, but the phone is generally napping for incoming calls.
I may have to rethink my whole strategy for this.
Hi,
I'm using a Sony Xperia Z5 Dual Android 7.0 facing that issue making me unable to use my WLAN hotspot (which it pretty anoying cause it doesn't only dissallow me to share my internet connection but also I can't do other network stuff between devices I'd use that hotspot for).
So when I try to turn on my the hotspot it simply turns itself off again after small amount of seconds. When I got to WLAN hotspot in settings then I have the active button to switch the hotspot on while it shows me tbat it's of at the moment. Doing that it says "Activating hotspot..." (pretty exactly that) until it's going off again with a quick "Deactivating hotspot" and you could activate it again but it will do nothing again than say "activating" and go off again. While it is "activating" it already shows the active hotspot icon in the top bar of the phone and the hotspot settings are as well already active and no more inactive greyed out. But only for nk idea, 3 seconds probably. Within that short period of time my laptop didn't find my phones hotspot but that might just be down to an to high delay in scanning and finding so I don't know wether it would shortly pop up seeable for other devices.
Earlier that day I had my hotspot working actively (nobody actually joined) but it worked and would have if somebody joined because that issues is not new to me on my phone and when the hotspot activates, then it also works. But half of the time it seems when I want to use it, it doesn't work. I haven't changed any settings inbetween or restarted my phone. It was probably on for one week, but after then trying a restart it still didn't help.
I already changing some one-click stuff like just turning out WLAN, turning off or on data save mode (which stops background data for all apps in mobile internet and WLANs marked as hotspots), turning off or on mobile data. But well, I don't know anything else and earlier it worked with all the same settings so what could be the problem behind that?? Besides that my phone always just works completely normally without any issues, WLAN always works without problems, only Bluetooth sometimes doesn't want to activate and then I see it active after some minutes or hours later, but that can always be fixed with a restart if I needed it instantly. If you just wait and it is active then tough, it is kinda awoken and works instantly then again shutting it off and on.
Phone is not rooted btw.
Ok long text, but please if you have any ideas tell me..
