Well then this is it. Even if Samsung doesn't release it on the 21st, we'll still have a flashable version very soon.
We will have something to flash tonight, almost guaranteed... Tomorrow night at the latest.

LOL.
It's interesting to see that samsung is putting the source out before they release the firmware. Usually with these companies its the other way around.
That's why I had to ask I didn't think the source would be up already. Sj musta did some magic Thank you finally.......

it's not Friday! anyway, there have already been two other leaks for Gingerbread besides this (though this one went out through KIES and is likely official). this isn't any use for us until sources drop.
then you can at least reorient the kernel and whatnot.
edit: should also add, no development related to this, just a gingerbread announcement therefore general.
So i can flash this through kies? on my captivate?

no, it's for the i9000, download an ODIN-compatible version, normal caveats apply.

it shouldn't be which is why I said it belongs in general about 3 posts up.
AndroidCentral is reporting it. (EXCITED)
I'm one of those happy Paragon ROM Cappy users that still loves the phone and is patiently awaiting the SGS2. Gingerbread on here would be nirvana.

I don't believe so but I bet the cooks here will be all over this and Gingerbread ROMs will begin to sprout roots very soon.
well i think this could be a great thing, but ill stick with firefly until an official update comes
one question, why do people even care about official updates? i mean,we update to the new version, then root and start all back over again? lol sigh, but hey i guess thats how xda keeps on a goin...,,,

Well for one I think this means they have to release source in the coming weeks.
They don't have any obligation to do that for a leak...

It is because official updates usually means a stable bugfree version of gingerbread for our devices so that it can be used as a base for custom roms or if it is good enough, use as it is rooted/deodexed.

Unless you think that part in bold is sarcasm... that kind of sounds like it means it'll help CM7 development.

the major thing this will be able to help with is stuff like GPIO's and whatnot
Well usually the source for the I9000 rom releases always comes out within a reasonable time. So heres hopin we dont have to wait that long before we can grab it and start workin on some reoriented kernels.
Has anybody or will anybody flash this on to their Captivate?
If you have what was it like? And how did it go?
for me Im just sticking with CM7 but still intrigued
Has anyone flashed this on i9000 or i897?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1055591
that is for nexus s.
nothing more needs to be said. would never work
I guess no one has ever ported app's to other devices?
since it is really only the update to google talk we are interested in not the radio and other b.s.
apps yes, kernels (from complete different devices) no.
so the 2.3.4 rom is useless without the kernel
otherwise we would have 3.0 honeycomb ported from honeycomb devices, and then we would say screw 2.3.4
its more than just the gtalk. otherwise it would just be an app update!
not saying that it would work but, there is no kernel in that update.
we would need top modify it EG: take out the radio.

cant flash it as is.
parts can be ripped and ported yes. to cm7 or anything, gtalk already done.
but cant flash that "samsung firmware" as it is.

Unless you installed a front facing camera on your galaxy s, 2.3.4 would be pointless (even if it was possible). Stick with 2.3.3 for now. I hear some very un-official rumors about 2.4 coming late this year or mid next year.

Tonight at 7:71 pm
I have a feeling we'll be chasing after the ice cream van (er, Cyanogenmod 9) long before AT&T gets its head out of its ass and releases its version of Samsung's ICS update .
I've seen that there are leaked samsung ICS beta firmwares (I9100XXKP8) for the i9100, anyone seen anything for our sgh-i727(r)'s?

q1 2012.... but i doubt it, put your money on CM9 to be released faster, and be much much better
I agree. CM9 will likely be out before and definately better. But I have to ask: is anyone working on CM9 for the skyrocket? I can't find anything here on the forums about it or on their site.

I don't have any information, but I suspect there won't be a CM9 support for the Skyrocket until Samsung releases their ICS build for it. Then, you'll probably see Cyanogen kick out a ROM for us faster than AT&T will.
Heck when ICS comes out.. we will be ready for the "Jelly Bean" software..

Sooo this mean we'll finally get some source??
Our ICS is still a bit off. The latest build is 4.0.4, the international leak is 4.0.3. Granted the latest leak feels much better, I think we will be seeing the AT&T Skyrocket update sometime next month. Don't quote me on that, personal speculation only.

Not until after we get the OTA, and then probably at least 2-3 months after that they will release source
Wouldn't it be better to wait for a 4.0.4 version? It sounds like they'v fixed a lot of bugs vs. 4.0.3...

When they release officially it will be stable, whichever version it is.
Did you guys read about the Tizen open source operating system they are now running on the Galaxy SII LTE? Looks pretty sweet. HTML5 based code. I wouldn't mind trying that out.
Otherwise, from that link this guy is ready to send the tar for ICS to whoever needs it.
Just completed the upgrade a few moments ago for the Korean Galaxy SII Lte.
I captured the KIES image, HOME_E110S.UD25.2118_CL450467_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5, so if sammobile.com’s administrators are interested, I can put the file up for you to pickup and make available thru your firmwares page… drop me a pm if yes.
Details:
Model number: SHV-E110S
Android version: 4.0.3
Baseband version: SHV-E110S.UD24.1354.ST
Kernel version: 3.0.8-perf-E110S.UD24.2118-CL450467
