Virtual Orienteering - Let's have some fun - Android Apps and Games

Well I'm here on this forum for a while now, since I bought my HTC Polaris device. During my staying here I never really helped the community in any way... I just asked questions and tried all the ROMs I got my hands on. Even now, my old Polaris gives me great satisfaction running Froyo better then the WinMo
I've become a Android developer and tried to made a application that uses GPS. It's all about orienteering for now, but later we're trying to improve things. The whole idea is about executing on field a track that has some check points, as fast as possible using you device and optionally a Compass.
Right now the application is in beta stage, still some bugs to fix. If you are interested in becoming a member of the close beta testers group, please read further details in here: VOrienteering
It's easy and free for everyone.

Hey I sent you a PM, but I forgot to mention what device I have. HTC Evo. Hope to hear from you soon!

I just answered to you.
I want to KINDLY thank egzthunder1 for making the announce here http://www.xda-developers.com/android/play-and-be-active-with-virtual-orienteering-for-android/
Allow me to quote egzthunder1 which described very well the application's scope in Android applications area.
If you are as clueless as I am about this whole concept, the first thing that you may have thought is: “there is a typo in the article’s title”. As it turns out, this is an outdoor activity where people will determine a path to follow and will try to make it in the least possible amount of time. This can be done either walking, by bicycle, or car, a good sense of orientation, a map, and a good compass.

[app] Knoword

Hey everyone,
So about 8 months ago, my friend created this website Knoword Basically, you're given a definition, and the first letter of a word and based on this you have to guess what the word is, time limit included. Point are given for each guess and points lost for each word skip. It's incredibly addicting. The following is taken directly from the site:
Knoword is a game of quick thinking, smart decisions and great words. It focuses on teaching and advocating proper spelling habits, as well as good observational, analytical and typing skills. What makes Knoword different from all the other fun word games out there is that it's actually fun! With its fast-paced, addictive gameplay and a competitive and comprehensive player ranking system , Knoword pushes the limits on contemporary puzzle games and provides its players with a truly rewarding experience.
We got the idea to create an app for it. Well the app has been in the development stage for a month or so now (both iOS and Android) and it should begin the testing stage within the next few weeks, I thought I'd give everyone here a sneak-peak with a couple of screens.

"lightbox_new_window": "New window",

Both screens are from the iOS version but they will be the same for Android (with the exception of the keyboard, I suppose)
Sign-ins will be universal, from iOS to Android to the PC version. I'm incredibly excited for this app. Let me know what you think of the website version and I'll keep this updated once the game is in the testing stages, you'll all be the first to try it. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me!
I love the game and would buy this for a few dollars.
nice application!!!

I couldn't believe how addicting it was the first time I played it.
Just discovered knoword.org and I'm addicted. Extremely jealous of my iPhone buddies who already have the app. I would love for you to hurry, but please take your time to ensure that it all works! Would definitely pay up to $4 for it.
I love it. I have MS and have been looking for some good games to keep my brain going!
any updates for the Android version? Thanks.
Yes the android version is currently beginning development, it was a little delayed. We have a dedicated developer now. If you have an iphone, the app has been officially released in the app store, check it out! Thanks for your continued interest.

Yep, would pay for this. Good idea for an app, and the main site is nice too. Here's to a smooth, speedy development and release.
Any updates?

Funny that you ask, there is an update! I should be receiving the beta of this app today. I'm told it's basically a copy of the iOS version and they're debating whether to overhaul the UI based on this article . Anyway, as soon as I know whats going on, or at least have the app in hand (see: on phone) I'll fire off an update here.

[GAME][2.1+] RunnersHigh - A dinosaur runner game

Hey,
we, a group of students from Austria, released a little project of ours to the market yesterday.
The game is called RunnersHigh and it's a Runner game. You play a dinosaur and jump from platform to platform.
Also it's a open source game, so you can get the code on github.
Any Feedback is highly welcome!
Check it out it's FREE!

Hi, fellow devs!
So it seems that we're going to compete in a field of "running" games, because I'm making one too Anyway, I've tried out your creation. Lovely animation, cute dino and everything looks really nice.
Some of the things I did not liked is jump mechanics - I've god some criticism for that too, so it seems that people does not like then jump is too linear. You should add some deceleration/acceleration to it.
Also, I've managed to crash your game while testing some "user behavior" like "pressing Home while playing", "locking phone while playing". You should try out things like this and see if everything is working fine after going back to application.
That's probably all for now. Good luck!
Hey SnottyApps,
Thanks for your feedback, it's always nice to get feedback from a fellow developer!
Actually the jump isn't linear and does have acceleration.
Also we tested our app with several devices and had a group of testers.
If you can reproduce a crash please send us a report (just press "send report" when the app crashes) and we'll have a look at it.
You could even have a look on the source code and fix the problem yourself. The code is available on github: https://github.com/mwebi/runnersHigh
The thing with runner games is, that there are a lot of them on the market already. I wouldn't develop one at this time. We started to work on this app in early 2011, and at that time there were hardly any runner games on android.
Today there are a lot of highly polished games on the market and if you really want to be successful in terms of making money (which wasn't our goal), you'll need a more innovative idea IMHO.
Well, I guess I should've said that it's too linear. It really does feel unnatural, especially on lower speed. Have you considered to make jump related to the "hold" instead of "tap" action?
And I can't reproduce that crash, so maybe it was a one-time glitch - sorry to scare you I'll definitely report it if it happens one more time.
There are a lot of similar games indeed, but I think that with some good or fun or both ideas it's still possible to be something. Maybe it's just an illusion - I see many lovely games burrowed by popular ones and it's my first game, so I don't know anything yet As far as running games goes I tried as many as I could and I did not find many of then which I could really enjoy. Well, "Run like hell" is amazingly well made, but I did not like the controls and I hated the amount of ads.
You can check out my game, if you like. It's in the market - "Run Pig Run". I've created a thread about it in these forums today, but, I guess, it's not very easy to get replies if you're "small" or completely new

[Game][7.0+] iGOT - International Game of Tag

First post on here, so I'm sorry if I missed any of the rules.

This is my first app ever and I'm so happy to be releasing it to everyone finally! Thank you to any/all who help me try it out.
Want to play a game of Tag with anyone in the world? Want to do it without any of that annoying running? Then have I got the app for you!
iGOT - International Game of Tag, is a free game (has a bottom ad) that everyone in the world can play, no physical contact required (or recommended). The basic premise of the game is that you will see a list of those other players in a general vicinity of you (no exact locations given). If you're IT, you can TAG any of those users. However, be careful! They can use Buffs to thwart your incoming tag, or even use a Challenge Buff (within 5 minutes) to challenge you to a duel! Best out of 3 wins and the loser becomes IT! Don't like someone in particular? Maybe their banner annoys you? Use the Vampire Buff to steal points from them when you tag them!
Want to know how many bananas you are from someone? We've got that too! Go to your settings to change your distance units, location update interval, Banner and more!
I cannot post links yet, but you can find the app on the Play Store by searching for "iGOT"
The game is still very much in development, so I'm happy to receive feedback, bug reports, suggestions, etc. I also don't have very many users yet (~100) so everyone is spread fairly thin, so please don't be discouraged if there's no one in your general area; just spread the word to family/friends and you'll be having a blast in no time!
Thank you so much to everyone for helping me with this, and I hope to see you on!
Fixed a bug in 8.6.2 where Android 10+ (SDK 30) first-time users were unable to initially login. Update 8.6.3 was pushed/approved in the store at 14:00 EST. Sorry to anyone who had any issues!
Congrats with your first app, man, keep doing it
8.6.4 (Aphrodite) Released
I've just released a small update to the game that now includes an introduction/onboarding activity that gives players the gist of the game on first run. I've also updated the Radar Boost so that, after x32, it searches surrounding "zones" from your current location, giving you way more options for whom to tag.
Can't wait to keep seeing this app grow, since the more people we have the more fun it will be. Thank you so much to anyone who's already downloaded it!
Just released Version 8.7.0 over the weekend and we have started our first event!!! First 100 people to invite 3 friends to download the game, then verify they did by emailing/PMing me their Play Games usernames will get the Flag banners purchasable for free Event ends January 1st!
Thank you to everyone who has already given this a try! We're already up over 600 users, woot!
Nice,keep it going!

[CLOSED][APP] [PRM/CRM] ContactShip - personal relationship management for everybody

Dear XDA-developers Forum!
I want to introduce my app project to you.
Maybe you like to try it out and give me Feedback?
We launched at the Google Play Store a few weeks ago:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.contactship.app
---------
ContactShip helps to:
stay in touch with family, friends and acquaintances
and to spot toxic relationships faster and to avoid them
How it works:
You use it instead of the standard address book of your device and you can store and structure different types of information about the people you know.
This information is used for:
reminders to stay in contact
hints for the next conversation
cross-contact-analysis.
and to highlight good and bad relations.
This makes it easier to plan and enjoy your next interactions with the people around you.
---------
What type of information you can manage:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Nearly everything! Occasions, interactions, contacts, contact details, descriptions, likes, dislikes, wishes, dreams, social links between contacts, group memberships etc.
And we use different dimensions to ensure a good overview:
Views, categories, time stamps, ratings, markings, automated lists
Our goal was to be as flexible as possible but still keep enough structure to have benefits of it.
---------
Some screen shots:
There is no advertisement inside the app and moste features are free to use.
Maybe one or the other of you will like the idea.
I'm happy to answer questions here in the forum.
Here's the download link again:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.contactship.app
I look forward to your feedback!
Thank you all!
Best,
Matthias
Will be testing this app and reporting back to you with my findings. This looks promising!
Thank you! Looking forward to your feedback
The problem:
“What was this girl’s name I met last Wednesday? I know I wrote down her name and number … “
Contact Apps only display names and numbers. Therefore it's impossible to identify a person if you don't know his or her name anymore.
The solution:
“Sort contacts by created descending” sorts your contacts according when you saved them in the ContactShip app.
This makes it possible to identify new contacts even if you haven’t saved the interaction in their contact history.
What’s behind it:
ContactShip saves the creation date for new contacts automatically and you can use it later on.
What advice would you give yourself if you could go back to when you first started?
My advice would be to spend a lot of time to build an audience while you develop your product. I'm very happy with our app itself, but we lack on public reach. If people don't know it, they won't use it.
My mistake was to care about building audience and getting followers first after the launch because legal preparations, concepts, testing etc. ate my work time.
We still only have a few hundreds followers on most social channels and our community grows slowly but steadily. And it is very difficult to get in contact with the media if you don't have personal connection. And people with good connections want a lot of money to help you.
If I could go back I would spend 1/3 of my time on audience and followers.
