I recently ordered 2 batteries and a charger from a chinese supplier on ebay. With one of the batteries my phone is freezing up about 45 seconds after boot every single time. I have tried clearing my cache, deleting battery stats, and disabling my overclock.
Is it possible the battery is feeding my phone the wrong voltage and causing freezing? Any way of finding out what process is causing the lock up?

My S3 have been lagging, I ran out of battery and change it with another one to continue working that I haven't used and is in mint condition and my phone started to run like bat out of hell, I also changed the launch to Nova and decided to go without any screen animations within the Nova configurations, will charge old battery and try to see if it was the battery or the Nova settings.

My phone keeps shutting off all the sudden like the battery is suddenly dieing. It doesn't matter what the battery percentage is. I'll manage to reboot it after a few tries and every time the battery percentage jumps around. I'll boot up into recovery and can play around in there all day without the phone shutting off but once I leave recovery it keeps happening randomly. The only time it won't reboot is when I have it plugged in (this is how I narrowed it down to a battery issue).
I've tried charging it all the way up but it still happens. I've wiped battery stats and have done a full wipe and fresh install. It happens with custom kernels AMD the stock kernel.
Is my battery fried or is there something else I can do?
Sorry for any typos I'm on my phone now.
I had similar problems. By chance, do u use juice defender? I was troubleshooting my issues and when I stopped using JD my shutoff problems disappeared.

Nope no apps for the battery or cpu. The only "tweaking" app I use is sd booster. I don't see how that could do anything though.
Try reseting battery data in recovery

My battery never got that hot on just standby or normal texting and web use. But ever since I decided to disable stocks and stocks widget the battery got real hot like 40c and just over. I used to hover around 28-30c. Anybody else experience this?
I re enabled the stocks widget and stocks app but battery still feels hot. Well the battery was at 12% so right now I have it charging hopefully it goes back to normal temps.
I have those disabled and have no battery or temp issues. I would use an app like system panel or watchdog and see if you have a rogue app that's running.
No not forme

No issues here since disabling the junk apps.
I had the same issue and was only getting 37 minutes screen time before needing to charge the I reset the phone left all the apps there and now I am getting great battery life !
Thanks for the replies. I just put them back on ("stocks" apps) and battery temps back to normal with no overheating. Dont kniw what caused it or if it was just coincidence, regardless leaving it alone now.
edit: seems like its getting hot again. I don't think its a rogue app as I had the same apps before when it was running normal temps. its up to 35c with just texting for couple minutes. I did that before and it wouldn't get warm to the touch.
Could the battery gone bad on me???
switch it out...

When I go to account & sync and turn on auto sync. I had to re add the stocks account and then pressed sync all and the stocks isn't synching. Maybe that's why its overheating its trying to turn on but cant?
I readded the 3 "stocks" apps i had disabled is there some other way to turn them back on?
lol, stop focusing on the app removal and look at what you installed from the market.

But I haven't installed anything from the market when I started getting the hot temps. All the apps i have now are the same when it wasn't overheating.
try to freeze Sense Apps... It might help...
and dont delete the sense apks, it may crash the launcher sometimes...
Well I gave in and did a factory reset. Pain having to redo everything but I guess only way to make sure. Ill see if tomorrow it doesn't overheat. Thanks.
My i9020T was working fine using the stock 4.1 firmware. I started playing around with a few custom ROMs (all designed for my phone) with varying results. I eventually got to a point where every ROM I tried resulted in a phone that restarted suddenly several times a day and drained the battery quickly. I thought maybe that restoring apps using Titanium when going back and forth between 4.1 and 4.2 based ROMs might be the problem, so I wiped everything and did a system reset, then installed CM 10.1 and the Gapps and a handful of crucial apps that I downloaded fresh from the Play Store. The random resets seem to have disappeared but I am still having strange battery life issues. The battery seems to discharge at about the same rate as with the stock ROM until it gets to around 40%, then suddenly dies with no warning. It can only be restarted by plugging it into the charger, at which point it shows a 0% charge. It seems to charge back up to the 40%-50% mark extremely quickly, then gets to full charge at normal speed. I tried switching to my seldom-used backup battery, with the same results. I also tried reinstalling CM 10.1 and Gapps, along with the Marmite kernel, and got the same results but with a slightly longer period of time before it dies. Anyone have any ideas?
This happened to me once, not like your case, but I fix it with a app witch one I don't remember the name. What I know is that app just delete the battery.stat soo android generate a new one. Try to search on play store.

App name is battery calibration and here is the link for it https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nema.batterycalibration
Hope it works  good luck

Thanks for the replies. The Battery Calibration app seemed like it had pretty much done the job the first day after I ran it--the battery lasted the whole day and made it down to about 10% before it suddenly died. However, on the second day (today) it went right back to the old behavior, dying in mid-afternoon shortly after the battery charge dropped below 40%. Any other ideas?
I've tried watchdog, ram cleaners, task killers, system cleaners, etc, I disabled most apps that autostart with greenify, & turned off auto updates even though it hasn't been a problem before, but I still can't tell which app is using up many resources. Watchdog shows how much cpu an app is using but nothing is sticking out and I'm not getting any "misbehaving apps" notifications.
It just started acting like this the night before last. I haven't changed any settings and I uninstalled any apps that have been recently installed. My battery notification app tells me while in standby my tablet has 2 hrs before it dies while it's fully charged. I can barely run any apps without it being plugged in.
I really appreciate any suggestions.

I do not want to give to you the bad news, but your battery may be going bad. I had old HtC phone that was doing the some. Had to keep on charge all times. I did not took mine apart( so far) to see if the battery can be replace. Let the battery drain down and slowly recharge. See if that help. I notice, that car chargers are putting more amps that wall chargers, so avoid the car charger.

Hello all, so the original battery on my Google pixel, almost 3 years old, went to complete hell. It turns off in about a minute once unplugged, despite 100% battery life. So I went and replaced it with two Amazon bought batteries. The first one (definitely not OEM) had the same issue but my pixel would at least last about 10 minutes of regular use, unplugged, before shutting down. So I thought it might be the battery but the second one has the exact same issue. The second one at least looked like OEM with the exterior but since it came from Amazon, it's not 100% certain.
The problem is that the phone charges very fast, like 100% in less than 15 minutes and then discharges 10-20% in just a few minutes. If I last below 70% that would be out of the ordinary.
Is it possible that it's not a battery issue but maybe a different issue? A friendly person on another forum suggested that my core or graphics IC is overheating, attempting to throttle down; and then just shutting down when it looses the battle. Which makes absolute sense since the phone mostly shuts down when I'm playing games on my phone and usually turns off just under 80%.
I also found out that a recent google play store version was found to be the culprit for the extensive battery loss for other folks. Could this also be reason?
Are there any tests I could do to further determine the actual cause?
Thank you.
Two ideas:
- Deactivate Play Store app in Settings -> Apps & Notifications -> All -> Play Store -> Deactivate
- To rule out a damaged third party app as a cause for the battery drain (which actually is quite unlikely in your case), you can reboot into safe mode. For that, long-press the power button and then long-press 'shut down', confirm with OK. At the reboot, all non-system apps are freezed. Then you can check if the battery behaves differently.
Did you try charging your phone for about two hours longer, even if it says it is already at 100%? Maybe just the battery percentage measurement system is somehow damaged.
But you already tried that I guess. So maybe somebody else got another tip for you.
do you try flashing stock image? maybe the battery cache is in trouble
Similar to OP, my Pixel XL had started to have some odd issues beginning almost a year ago. It got REALLY bad in just the last six weeks or so when it would shut down at relatively respectable battery percentages (something like 23% - 57%, randomly).

Thanks for these ideas, BenjyTec.
When I deactivated ("Disabled" in my settings), there was no change in behavior. In fact, I had forgot I did that until giving things about a week and had forgotten when the phone behaved the same way, LOL (I just now re-enabled it).
I also tried the Safe Mode (which I had not previously known about - thanks!), and the phone still died out pretty quickly from a "full" charge.

I had also done this several times. The really odd thing is many times I will have it on the charger all night or for several hours, and when I take it off it is only at a very low percentage - from 1% to 16%. !!! Of course more often than not it does get to a higher percentage.

Thanks, gonzakennyn - I have not done a "stock" image, but have factory reset the phone, with no joy. This was actually one of the things I did months ago even before it got really bad, because I wondered if maybe the battery cache or something at the kernel level had deeper issues.
Hopefully the OP might have had better luck or found something...
All these complaints sound like power supply issues.
Use the phone while it's in the charger, and there's no overheating/throttling/shutdown, right?

Unfortunately, I did not find a solution. After replacing the battery twice I pretty much resigned to my fate. I'm going to hold out until Pixel 4 comes out.
Once fully charged, I could use my phone for browsing or watching videos for about an hour before I get to around 30-40%. Then I could leave it unplugged all night and wake up to my battery at 1%. It actually stays that way for a bit.
However, if I use my phone to play any games, I could only use it unplugged for about 10 minutes. My phone will power down without fail at 80% or below only when I play games. Weird thing is, whenever I power it back up, my phone will be 1% but despite that it could last quite a while.
As post-mortem mentioned, I could use my phone while charging without issues so maybe it is a power supply issue, in which case, I have no idea what I could do.
When it's not plugged in to a charger, the only power supply is the battery. Hence, I feel that even your "new" battery is not new.
So a little update all. I updated my phone to the latest Android 10 patch and the battery life has gotten significantly better. It's still not enough to last all day but it can last probably 6-8 hours with minimal use. If I use it constantly, it might last two hours.
I am no longer tethered to my charger when playing games, which is really good news and all the prior issues with the phone shutting down ~80% is gone.
Perhaps the previous Android patches contained faulty code?
I would do fresh install and see if problem resolves. Fresh install fixes all sorts of software issues.
So my battery woes aren't as bad as yours but I did get to the point where I had the battery replaced. I went to uBreakiFix and I have no idea what battery they put in but the bottom line is a brand new battery didn't help much. I got a little better battery life but not as much as I had hoped. I'm assuming that it's either due to the apps I have installed and my usage or the phone is getting old and something is drawing a little more power than it used to. I have not gone to the trouble of factory resetting to see if that would help yet.

Factory resets didn't help my old issue. Updating to the latest Android os helped immensely. As stated above I no longer have the initial issues. I estimate I now have about 70-80% capacity, which is not bad at all considering I bought my battery through Amazon for around $20.
I thought if you got your battery replaced at ubreakifix, then they are obligated to fix your issue or refund you your money.
