[Q] use old Droid SMS app on Droid 2? - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

So I got the droid 2, and the one thing that is bugging me, is the layout of its SMS application. I looked through the settings to see if I can change the layout, though I haven't had any luck.
I like the original droid's sms layout much better. Is there a way I can use my old droid's sms app on my new droid 2?
Both phones are rooted.
Thanks!

[Q] x10i updated 2.1 want 1.6 sms client

Hi, I updated my x10i but the new sms client is horrible, laggy and hard to read the text, is there any way of increasing the font size or just putting the older version on the phone in it's place?
nope i also want the old sms app back, hopefully with update 2 thats going to happen.
i'm sure its not going to happen. There must be some way of making the text size bigger?
I also can't get the Accessibility setting to activate, maybe there's something in it there?
why not just use handcent or gosms?

[Q] Installed Fission - Motorola Widgets?

Hi guys, first-time poster here. This seems like a great community. I have a Droid 2, and recently installed Fission ROM on it. Love everything about it, except I can no longer access the built in motorola widgets, such as Text message, and toggle buttons for blue tooth, wifi, gps and airplane mode. Any way to get these back?
Edit: Appears I am also missing backup assistant, not fun having only 9 of my contacts available. I used Bootstrapper before installing the rom.
I think I put this in the wrong forum...sorry about that, feel free to mod me.
If I Remember Correctly, (I Am On A Thunderbolt) Fission Is A "Stock" Rom Meaning Moto Blur Is Gone, Meaning Motorola Widgets Are Gone
I think he's right, fission is AOSP-like so you're not gonna have the moto widgets. As for your contacts, I would be syncing them with your Gmail account that way whenever you switch roms/phones and sign in to your phone with your Google account, bam, you have all your contacts and apps. Also just fyi, I believe fission is no longer supported so I'd recommend trying a rom that is, i.e. liberty or apex.

[Recommendation] GO Dialer (and Contacts, SMS; Weather is okay...)

I've seen a couple of people asking for alternative dialer recommendations - especially those using non-Sense ROMs (CM7, AOSP, etc). I switched from Android Revolution (with Sense) to CM7 last week and was definitely missing the predictive dialing. Tried a couple of different Market dialers, and found that I like GO Dialer the best. Combined with GO Contacts, it does everything Sense did, and more. Lots of skins available (I prefer the simplest but there are some pretty colorful ones).
This also led me to try other GO Team apps, and I really like GO SMS over the stock Messaging app. It has more of an iOS-style interface (one of the only iOS styles I prefer over Android) with the side-to-side speech bubbles.
I also went with the GO Weather widget - it's kind of a Sense-style clock/weather module, and provides really detailed conditions and forecast info. I don't like the font used, and would love to have the animated weather wake-up function (my daughter loves the windshield wiper), but what ya expect for free uh?
These products could be better, but they're some of the best free apps I've found for non-Sense ROMs.
+1 on Go SMS
and
+1 on Go Contacts/Dialer
I have always been a fan of the Go SMS app, and just recently snagged Go Dialer... It is awesome!
I use Go SMS and Go Dialer, Go Contacts and I'm on a sense ROM.
I even switch to Go Laucher Ex when I'm bored with Sense...I like it better than ADW Ex and I paid for the full version. Go Launcher has a Theme Creator that they released and there are some really nice Go Launcher Themes coming out.
Go Keyboard and Go Weather are still buggy...but I think will be alright once they get it worked out.
Go Widgets..meh.

Havent' tried that - I picked up FlexT9 when it was free on the Amazon App Store, and I love it - great speech recognition, Swype-like tracing, and stylus-type 'writing'. Also numbers and special characters on long-press... I'll have to write up a separate recommendation on that one, or ++ if there's an existing one.
The only thing I miss vs. the HTC keyboard is the directional buttons for moving the cursor around. Without a trackball, it's sometimes a pain to move around a text field...
Oh yeah, GO launcher Ex, Go SMS, and go Dialer and Contacts..
Must haves. Go Launcher is my Favorite.
Go dialer is a must have on asop roms.

I have some trouble getting the international calls made by Google Voice with Go Dialer. Any thought?

Report it as a bug, there is a feedback option.
Agreed. GO SMS Pro, GO Contacts and Dialer are all great applications. Definitely worth checking out.
Lets not forget about Go keyboard, they just added the swip feature to it. Tried several keyboards and Go is hands down for me.
Does anyone know if GO SMS Pro can be themed white on black?

Just have to wonder what go is using as a business model. All this great software for free.

Possibly they are waiting to be noticed by one of the major phone makers. Maybe they will design a phone around it. The GoPhone. lol.

I do not think GO SMS has that capability, at least I did not notice it when I was using it. I am a very big fan of the GO Launcher and other things from the dev team. However for my messaging app I use chomp SMS. Chomp lets you customize just about every aspect of thier software and it retains the droid emoticons instead of replacing them with Normal looking ones.

SMS preference

I don't see too many poll threads on which sms client you use... I would love if you left a reason you chose the one you do.
I use GO SMS pro because of the simplicity of it and the way the pop up looks. I actually prefer CHOMP sms pop up UI, but it lags and just isn't close to running as smoothly as GO sms Pro.
Also, if you want to post a screen shot of the theme you're using if you're happy with your theme!
Handcent > Go sms. You can text without unlocking screen with handcent. You have to unlock the screen for go sms.
Idk how much I would use that, but I am interested in that. What theme do you use?
Handcent because of being able to reply from the lockscreen without unlocking the phone.
Wow a lot more people use handcent than I realized. What theme do you use?
Stock Sense app, on InsertCoin 2.2. Nice and simple
I use stock. Never liked other apps.

I use Handcent, probably because it offers so many more options over the stock Sense app but probably because of habit also. I don't like pop-ups because of privacy issues and the Handcent seems to work the best for me.
I use GoSMS Pro. I tried Handcent for a while but I found Go to be smoother. They're almost identical in terms of features. However, Go lets you backup your texts for free. Helpful when flashing different ROMs.
i use iphone theme on Handcent with modifications.
I used to use Handcent until it started acting stupid. It worked fine & then all of a sudden started resending texts on every reboot, not sending texts properly(showed a spinning icon next to every message), etc. Now I use GoSms & I love it. All the features of Handcent with none of the bugs. The only thing I miss is the Handcent ringtone picker.
Im using an aosp mms app xboarder ported, working fine for me.
I'm surprised on how many people use stock. It doesn't offer enough features for me. I agree that handcent use to be better, but GO SMS pro has surpassed it in my opinion on the mere fact that it isn't buggy and looks a lot cleaner.
Also, its interesting no one uses Chomp SMS. Especailly if you ever use the iphone theme, chomp sms looks just like it. I loved BITEsms on my jailbroken iphone I used to have.
Used to use Chomp, now go.
just prefer the look of the stock sms app, especially when themed.

Yeah i love GoSMS's built in SMS and settings backup, i used to use only handcent but stopped mainly for that reason.
I hate stock messaging app i try i use it but get sick of it and switch. I hate the lack of customization.
I do wish, however, that text messages would still pop up on the lockscreen when using any other messaging apps

Changing fonts

Is there any way to change the fonts on the Ultra?
Nope. You'll need root.

I used font installer from the market. Had to be booted into "recovery" so it had r/w to system but worked like a charm and persists through regular reboots. Love my Stonehenge font!

In a related question : is there a way to change font size for most of the displayed text on the phone without rooting or replacing the operating system? I am talking about text below icons, in text message app, in the web browser, in hangouts, etc.
I am possibly getting a Droid MAXX for someone who is "farsighted" and needs an easy way to zoom the text to, say, 130 or 140%.
On my Razr MAXX HD I can use an app to do that, but from what I understand, this app doesn't work on Android 4.2 or above. (I still have Android 4.1 on my phone.)
