first off, i have a cdma hero and i am running cm 6.1rc now, with classicalgas's theme.
i have weird permission problems going on. it seems like i have halfway lost my root. i can run superuser and all the apps that require root, but i cant modify or change anything in my system folders. typefresh gives me an error that says it cant remount. when i use adb to mount the sd, it says i dont have permission. i get the # but it still says no.
ive also noticed a problem with my nandroids. it worked the other night, but now, twice, it will let me make a backup but it will not restore it. it says there was an error and to do it thru adb.
so, basically, i guess i messed something up somewhere. did i lose some of my root functions? can i re-root, or do i have to go stock and do it all over again? any suggestions? you guys are all amazing for the knowledge on here, so i know someone will help me out.
thanks in advance!
tl;dr-- lost some root functions. do i need to start all over again?
anybody got any ideas ?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=751182 will help you with all of this. I am using it with my Captivate, I can sideload apps, get off AT&T Market apps, it got rid of their bloatware. Most of the bugs that it had with the stock ROM and bloatware are gone, very snappy now, GPS, for me is working fine, my battery life has increased drastically since flashing with this. Hope this helps. Are you sure your rooted? Do you have Super user permisions and Titanium Backup? If you don't then you aren't rooted but this Unleash the Beast ROM/Tool will root it for you too!
Sorry but I forgot, you can find ROM Manager on the market get it and make a back up of your current ROM just incase you need to flash back to it for any reason, it's easier than using Odin. This will also give you ClockworkMod Recovery.

thanks for the post, ive tried two things so far the one you sent me and another 8mb file but both wont allow super user to function properly so i cant get sideloading to work. everything else seems to be fine all the bloatwares gone so is the att boot but sideloading wont seem to go. i tried running scripts in another install and now when i open the terminal emulator and enter su it says permission denied. is there a whole rom i can install a madaco rom or something. i've even heard people mention there was an early froyo rom floating around for the galaxy s

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734871 is what I've seen as far as early Froyo releases go. Too buggy for me, I will wait for the real thing or until more bugs are worked out of the early one.
Not sure about the other ROMS or sideloading, I haven't tried it yet. I'm a noob to Android and I am learning and reading before doing anything that I can't fix.

Glad to hear. Yeah those buttons are a small annoyance for an otherwise awsome phone, I'm used to them now. Enjoy your phone.
I rooted my Inspire using HTC_Inspire_4G_Simple_Root_S-OFF_RC1 available here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=961406
Everything seemed to go ok and I have root access, however my SU has started FCing on me all the time and everytime I try to get into CWM it just goes blank screen. I believe that I am in CWM as when it goes blank if I push power it reboots and comes up fine. After reading about it I found that I may need ENG S-off for it to work correctly. I used the one-click eng s-off from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=965207&highlight=californiarailroader
The tool is giving me a bootloader corrupt do not reboot phone seek help from XDA. I have not done anything else with the phone at all. Please let me know where to go from here. I am an experienced PC user however more of a novice/intermediate android/linux/adb user.
Thanks in advance for any help anyone may be able to provide.
Edit: I feel kinda stupid as after reading more threads, I was able to 1. Clear data from SU so it would open and, leaving SU open provide permission of the program and it ran fine. However, if your SU is constantly FCing the only way to get permission to it is to have it OPEN during the eng-off run.
I have a friends MT4G here and something went wrong when trying to get it permarooted, I'm not sure what happened before it got to me but I tried to start from scratch and restored the phone back to factory settings, I tried to use Visionary to gain temp root and then went to try permaroot and visionary kept coming back.
I then installed terminal emu. and tried to root and got as far as rebooting to check S-off and the phone keeps crashing, ( reboots then visionary pops up and shuts down, starts again and weather tries to refresh and crashes.) I'm looking for a way to get this phone back to the day it was bought so I can do this for him the right way. I need to know if A. it's even possible, B. what do I need if so, C. other options.
Hboot is there but tries to update and says update failed, Need a hand on this one.
Thanks in advance....
Edit / Update: OK I was told to try something else but now I have the phone working but no chance to get S-off yet, I did a Factory reset and formatted the SD card and poof I was back up and running, I tried to gain temp root then Perma root but it always goes back to S-On no matter what I try. I still have Hboot Recovery here but I'm having a problem getting any further so I'm hoping some one will have a suggestion or even a glimmer of hope they wanna throw my way, the phone owner is a good kid and helps out alot with my son and I really wanna get him back in action here.
Ok, so it sounds like your issue is a bad eMMC chip. This bad chip does not allow root to stick when using the visionary method. The only way to root is using the g-free method. But, when you have a bad eMMC and use the gfree method, you get corrupted partitions and after a while you get a bunch of errors in clockwork mod and end up with a bricked phone...kind of a lose lose situation.

I found a way around the problem and got him back up and running but thanks for the heads up on the gfree, I did find the post on it.
New here. I figure this'll get moved if it's not in the right spot.
So I made a big mistake.
I rooted my Kyocera Rise (Virgin Mobile) using the poot.apk, and everything was going super fine, running the stock rom. Then I ran into an app called Screencast, which records your screen. So I thought, "Hey, I bet I could make a great MCPE commentator with this!" So I tried it out.
Unfortunately, in order to function properly, the app needs root (Check!) and "HW overlays disabled".
What?
So I poked around the build.props, looking for anything that might be it. I opened up the GPU one, looked it over, and like an idiot, changed the value from one to zero. It then prompted for a reboot, and is now caught in a bootloop.
Great.
Let me emphasize, I have no custom recovery. I can get into stock recovery and wipe the data and cache, but I keep getting this "E: Cannot load volume /misc!" line. So that's no good.
I've tried using adb from my mac (no access to Windows) to restore the build props, but keep getting "-bash: adb: command not found" back.
I'm at a loss, and I'm in a really tight spot moneywise. I need to get this phone back.
Is there anything I've missed, anything I can do?
Recap:
Rooted Kyocera Rise
Stock Rom
GPU build.prop changed from 1 to 0
no custom recovery
bootloop
frustration/desperation
no money
I guess u don't have sdk installed properly or else adb doesn't gives this error
Cheers,
AJ

need to do this
hi. I rooted my Kyocera rise using the poot method and now my home and all apps buttons as well as some other things aren't functioning. I downloaded all the files and moved them to my phone, but now I'm not sure how to make this happen. do I need to use a program? I'm not very computer knowledgeable and only was able to root my phone because the process was so easy I didn't need to know anything at all. Quick help will be greatly appreciated
I was trying to fix the kit kat sd card rw issue by first, rooting my smt800. This was no problem. I was hopimg to do as your forum suggested, add the missing command code in system/ etc/permissions/platform.xml. This did not work. I"m now want to find a rom that has this code inbedded in it or if possible, bring google down a notch by using a earlier operating system without this issue. My new problem is my access has been denied. superuser gives a notification stating, no binary installed. I know i will have to reroot. My question is whats is the reason it lost or cant locate binary, how do i keep from haing to reroot multiple times. i did not do anything other than a simple root and edit. any suggestions
Hello,
Try to roll back to your original firmware, link you can find it here.
And try to reroot back your device, sometimes some binary will lost or will be hidden and won't let you to edit however. But try to go back to stock and reroot. And all of the problem will be shorted out!
