When I was on a custom Froyo rom I would get this almost everytime. Went back to stock, no firmware updates. I wouldn't expect to see an update until after the holidays at the earliest.

Yes, most everyone has the connection problem. Just use Kies Mini + your USB cable to check for updates.
It has been doing that for a month with my phone.

Yeah, I had the same problem. I ended up downloading kies mini and after a whole night trying to make it work I finaly updated to JH7.
good at least it's not just me. I have never been able to get kies to work every time I install it I can't get my phone to connect to my computer running win7.

Kies or Kies Mini?
i had this problem. here's what fixed it for me (hopefully for you, as well):
settings > applications > manage applications > menu|filter|all > device management > clear data
you must reboot afterwards.
Fail to communicate because you guys are killing a process call Device Management. Reboot your phone and make sure it doesn't get kill by the task killer.

thats a good point, although I wasn't using a task killer so this definitely was not the cause of my error. but I dont know if the OP is using a task killer
I remember it's 'clear the cache'?

If you're running 64bit then you need to get the 64bit drivers. If not, then what error does it gives you or what happens when you try to connect it?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
I wasn't using task killer I also restarted and tried and got the same message

I have the drivers for windows 64 bit when I connect my phone is it says that the device needs to be ran in kies studio mode then kies cancels the connection

Seems as if I need a computer to move the file to sd

Well I went and hacked the library computer to allow me to save the app you suggested to my sd. I tried with and without debugging enabled. It just black screened a few seconds in and did nothing. So I'm not sure.
I also tried the same with Z4 again. It would like run and the app would close, unrooted.
Any suggestion to a newbie?

You have to enable usb debugging first to use any rooting app. You can just turn it off afterwards.

I just remembered. My friend has a optimus black running 2.2.2 and he rooted it with gingerbreak. I'm not sure if the optimus s can do the same thing but you can try.

hey i tried using the heimdall .. it went thru the whole process.. then when it said rebooting phone ... it disconnect.. it just hangs on the sidekick 4g tmobile screen . and so i thought it failed, so i flashed the bootloader... it went thru the same thing.. now when i goto download mode theres a grey box... and odin cannot detect it ... help!
Reinstall the drivers with the phone plugged in while in download mode. Same thing happened to me

The bootloader drivers?
Sent from my T959 using XDA App
Try these drivers...leave the phone in download mode while installing them . If it asks u to overwrite due to u having them already just say yes....and once it finishes installing...unplug phone and plug back in while in download mode . In order for it to try to read the phone in download mode

So I recently rooted my device via Odin and attempted to flash Zeus ROM 6 through cwm. There was an error with the flash as the ROM did not load properly. I reset my phone in the cwm menu so my phone got a fresh factory reset. However, my hspa+ will not activate, although I do get a signal. What should I do?? I have tried another factory reset and turning airplane mode on and off. Still no luck
My infuse is running 2.3.6 if that even makes a difference.
This is a repost since the last was not answered.

Doing a factory reset in recovery is not the same as puttin your phone back to stock...your still running Zeus...
Just use heimdall or Odin and go back to stock
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using Tapatalk 2
But the thing is, my phone isn't running the Zeus ROM. It's still 2.3.6 with 2.6.35.7 kernel.
I look at my mobile network type and it says it's UMTS versus the hsdpa(or something like that)that it was using earlier. It also reads my mobile network state as disconnected but is still in service (just cant use data based applications such as Facebook)
Should I still try to unroot my phone??
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Doc, It is not uncommon for the mobile state to say disconnected. I am on my sgs3 at the moment, it says mine is disconnected, yet all is well.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
There is a misunderstanding... my network state says my device is disconnected. I am not able to access any app that requires data use such as the play store, Facebook, reddit etc.... All say there is no internet connection and simply won't run.
