WOW!!! - Captivate General

WOW i bricked my phone last night and i couldnt get to download mode and i tried all the methods here in the forums still wont get to download mode!
so yea basically this post will help you if your phone wont get to download mode and your phone keep getting stuck at the atnt screen or galaxy s screen.
all you have to do is open one click root while your phone is stuck on atnt screen or galaxy s screen and just click one root and boom! it will get you to clockwork recovery! (Note you should have clockwork recovery or else it will get you to stock recovery)

WOW!! Your title had me believing all the rumour threads were true for a second. I thought you got froyo.

If you can get to the AT&T or Galaxy S screens, you're not bricked. You can use ADB at that point. As well, the three button SBL fix would be loaded and usable at that point.
Semi-bricked would be the computer - ! - phone screen. Really bricked would simply be a dark screen. Thus when you are really bricked, the hardware solution from the other thread that you said wasn't necessary will be... How can I say it?... Necessary.

I'm not sure if this would work for you or not. If you turn the phone off, and then hold volume up and push the power button (hold both) until you get to the bootloader interface. If you can get there, you should be able to install the clockwork recovery and put on a custom rom. But on the other hand, if you did nothing to it in the first place, maybe you should take it back and get a new one?

[Q] Root Question

I am a dummy when it comes to some technology but I really want to update to Froyo. I have followed several videos and instructions on how to root. I get all the way to the blue screen that says that the phone is rebooting and thats where Im stuck. It doesnt reboot into Android System Recovery. I have tried to do a force restart by pulling the battery and still nothing. Any suggestions????

Gary,
You need to go back to stock with gtg's unbrick or adam's heimdall.
Check out the one stop for all section in DEV.

I had more luck with heimdall but check out the Rogers specific link...
i didn't disable voodoo lagfix....
what do i do now????
for the rogers link it says i should have disabled it
is there any way to access this through cwm
and when i hold volume buttons and power button, cwm doesn't even open anymore the boots just loop
i used gtg's fix and now i dont get a rogers boot screen
i get an at&t boot screen.. anyway to fix that?
i can enter the 3e recovery screen but im not sure what to do from there
it always just stays on the samsung logo screen

I think the hardware is similar, gary.
I'm not sure if it makes any difference if you're on rogers or at&t.
If you're planning on runnning custom rom anyway.
if you are not able to access cwm through the 3 buttons reboot technique, you may need to use odin or heimdall back to stock and start again.

what is the color of your 3e? blue?
voodoo lag can be disable in red recovery...
from where you're at, in blue recovery, if you are not able to do much, it may be better to go back to stock with any one of the back to stock methods..
i was able to fix it!!
thanks so much!

ALL questions in General Section.
To answer you.. try wiping data & cache in CWM.
If you don't have CWM, then you did do something wrong cause you needed to have that prior to rooting.

Did you install k0nane's root kernel over ICS? If so that's where you went wrong. There's a few threads here where others have done so and have been helped. Check those threads.

I have a question.... I used odin3 v 1.85 to root my gs blaze... after i went into a boot loop. after researching i found a thread on site that said to flash siyah??? well i did that and my phone went died..... wont turn on, tried every three button combo i can find, took battery out put it back in, held the volume buttons while putting the battery in and hooking it up to computer... nothing. so im gonna make an assumption that i hard bricked my phone... my question is: will a jig help me get to the download screen or recovery mode?
also i posted this here because it was the best match for my problem

[Q] Help: BRICK'd. can't boot into anything (recovery, download, etc)

background: rooted and was running 4.1 stock and CWM 10.0 on verizon gs3. i wanted to bump up to jelly bean 4.2 with CWM 10.1.
first i tried using Rom Manager and Rom Toolkit to flash a new rom. from Rom Manager, i rebooted into recovery and got stuck on the CWM boot screen.
After 30 minutes or so i pulled the battery and tried flashing the stock .tar.md5 using Odin and ended up with this:
"System software not authorized by verizon wireless has been found on your phone. Please turn off your phone and go to the nearest verizon wireless store for help."
now i can't boot into download or recovery. i just have this screen with the yellow exclamation point and the above message.
how screwed am i? i've tried reading everywhere and from what i can gather i didn't wipe my cache sufficiently, but all the other threads just say 'use Odin to get back to stock', but i can't get into download mode so i can't use odin.
please help.
You're bootloader wasn't unlocked. Pull the battery then hold power, volume down, and home for fifteen or twenty seconds until it boots into download mode. Odin flash a stock rom then root AND ALSO unlock your bootloader.

Ha, I agree although I think its occurred in decreasing fashion since August. Being "bricked" is used overeagerly by folks not wholly understanding their situation. You really have to try to brick this device before that word can be used correctly.
Your phone has not been bricked. You will know that you have bricked your phone when you can't turn on your phone at all. No download mode and no recovery mode also no pulling of the battery just a dead phone.
ClockworkMod
When you fix your phone, root then unlock the bootloader... You can try RM again but I believe that it is best to use ClockworkMod (or the Touch version) for flashing instead of ROM Manager - old fashion, maybe, but it works!
NOTE: Once you start flashing it becomes addictive - you have been warned
thanks for the comments. my apologies for using the term Brick incorrectly as it seems to really chap the cheeks of some people on this board (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2149210)
no luck with holding down buttons with the battery pulled. i ordered a USB Jig to try and force it back into download mode.
From there, what should my first step be? return to stock?

thanks that's a very helpful thread. However, i still can't get into download/Odin mode. i'm guessing if/once the USB jig can force the phone into download mode, this is where i'll start.
thanks for everyone's help and patience.
