Titanium Backup Issue FIXED - EVO 4G Themes and Apps

Titanium back up
After a complete wipe (wipe data, wipe cache, wipe davlik)
Fresh install of any ROM tried (vaelpak, frost, evosense) all recent versions
when i tried to run a restore via Titanium backup when it gets to some files it reboots... (SOME WORK SOME DON'T)
Also I have tried to click on problems and nothing helps
Does anyone know how to fix this damn problem. i can not install new roms because i can not get my old apps back.
FIXED:
If you do a app verification then you will see the apps that cause the reboot are actually corrupted all you have to do is Delete all the backups and do another back up.. check with verification and you will see no errors and BAMM your fixed to do a restore.
Also don't forget when loading a new rom to click on Problems? in Titanium Backup and reinstall a working busybox before doing a restore..

Click the Problems? button at the bottom of the screen in Titanium. It will download a known good version of BusyBox and should fix your problems.

I have tried that already doesn't work. I also have the paid eddition of titanium backup

Same here. Just started a day or two ago. Changing Busy box isn't doing anything. Only some apps cause it whether its batch or single.

wouldnt it be good idea to make a sticky about the fact that titanium backup causes more problems than its good for, most of the posts i have read about probs have one thing in common they all tried to restore a titanium back up now this wont work and that fc's or it just wont stop rebooting, factory reset and flash seems to always work and if ya.want a different kernel let it boot one time then install the kernel, naturally after you wiped cache and delvik again. those two ways always seem to work

Never, ever restore system data. I bet if everyone that had a problem only hit "restore missing user apps" there wouldn't be a problem.

Titanium backup rarely causes problems unless you restore system apps. Tibu is one of the most useful apps in the market, I would never discourage anyone from using it. It's especially helpful to have backups of an app that gets updated & then you find out the update breaks something or removes a good feature.

No problems here. You just have to be smart about what you restore. There is no "one click" method.
I think we are looking at user error ... but blame the software if you must.
As others have pointed out, I've never had an issue with Titanium Backup. Great software! Just do not restore system apps + data.

Ha, ditto.
Can we ditch rom manager or do you have to have it installed for CWR?
now if only there was something for unrooted phones to backup before they root so they could avoid that initial loss

I have had a problem with titanium backup, but it might be a setting. I restored using Titanium Backup from my Droid Incredible with no apparent issues to my 1st Thunderbolt. I did a backup w/ both Titanium and MybackupPro before swapping out my Thunderbolts. I always backup twice on my phones in case something goes wrong. Oh FYI it did go wrong before I returned the Thunderbolt I copied the MyBackup, but forgot the Titanium data. This is why i always double my efforts as I always forget something.
On my 2nd Thunderbolt I started to restore MyBackupPro data after unchecking everything that was a system app. I never looked into how to have MyBackupPro only copy user apps+data since I discovered Titanium. As soon as I went into Market Place multiple app updates downloaded.
For reasons that I am not sure why I decided to do it I did a hard reset to factory defaults. I copied my incredible data back over to the 2nd Thunderbolt and did a restore. None of the apps required updating from an older backup. I'm just wondering if something didn't restore correctly to market?

This may be a dumb question, but should you let apps download automatically after a wipe / new Rom install, and then have TB restore some apps with user data I need? Or is it better the skip the automatic download altogether and restore everything through TB? Thanks!

I'm stock and rooted. Used ROM manager to install CWR, then Titanium Pro to uninstall ROM.

The only issue I have had with titanium backup is that when I went to restore my apps and their data it did not seem to restore any of the data, just the apps. I was a little discouraged at first but then figured maybe the original location on my old droid X might have been different then where it is on the Thunderbolt. I doubt it but that's what I keep telling myself since the app data won't restore.
Recently had problems with restoring app data as well...hmmm... In my case it is probably user error.
Without Titanium Backup, I would not be as willing to try new ROMs. As with all things relating to rooting and flashing custom ROMs, you have to learn how to use the tools and understand their limitations.

I've had the same problem when moving to a GB-based ROM. So what is this "user error" that we're committing?

It's up to you really but that's how I do it. Just restore the data to apps that need that data and you can restore apps that didn't D/l from market and Ti will link them to the market so you'll still get updates.
I have no problem with TiBackup restoring data. When I move to GB ROMs (maybe that's just coincidence) Ti 'forgets' my settings so I have to setup my custom labels and scheduled backups again. I used to backup and restore texts (which is system data) but since switching between Froyo and Gingerbread ROMs I've gotten a separate app to do that if I want to take my SMS/MMS to my new ROM. Never backup/restore system data. I wish there was a way to exclude system data in TiBackup without also excluding uninstalled.

[Q] need suggestions on fixing FC's

for some reason the last 3 apps i've installed all FC on me. at least 2 were from the market. prior to this i've installed a ton of apps from the market and TB.
open maps, movies, yelp.
i managed to install yelp after i uninstalled movies. not sure why that mattered. i actually got the FC message but then it went away. movies still didn't install correctly. i've completely removed open maps.
i've heard fixing permissions in cwr can work but i've screwed up my phone on a prior rom doing that so i'm really weary of using it. also, why would i need to fix permissions if it's a new install?
Update: fixing permissions did nothing. Does clearing dalvik do anything?

Clear cache and dalvik and try again. If you still have problems, then reflash your ROM on top of your existing ROM without wiping anything. If you still have problems after doing this, then backup your apps/app data with Titanium and then do a full wipe (system, data, cache; everything). Then reinstall your ROM, then install Titanium and restore your apps (do not restore system settings; only restore apps and app data).

[Q] How do you keep from starting at square one when you fkash a new ROM?

Hey,
I'm new to all this ROM flashing stuff. I did a couple and they worked overall pretty well (I didn't expect flawless), but each time I've had to reconfigure the device all over again, reinstall all apps, etc. Any easy way to avoid doing this? It ends up leading to a lot of wasted time I could be spending finding other ways to mess with my phone...hehe.

i bought titanium backup exactly for this reason. the paid version installs everything very fast and automatically, the free version is still helpful but you have to manually press install and ok on every app.
Also along with TB try to remember to make a "Safe" NAND backup for your phone when it is set up and working great. This is a life saver when you flash an awesome "insert something here" and it eff's up your phone you then have a clean working backup to return to with little fuss. Rom manager does it along with a few others. Welcome to the fun. Remember to READ the forum carefully their have been a lot of Hard bricks lately because people tried to install a non compatible ROM.
Titanium backup is the way to go. I want to make an android application that restores all your data from a nandroid backup after you flash a new ROM...

Thanks for asking this! I've flashed custom ROMs on my old phone, but started over from square one each time. I assumed everyone did this. I've heard of Titanium Backup many times, but I guess I always assumed people just wanted a safety net. I didn't realize you could use it to "re-install" apps into a newly flashed ROM.

Go to the market and buy titanium back up its, the best out there after flashing rom go to titanium back up again and Pico the apps you want back on you device or reinstall them all
I use SMS backup and restore too when I wipe all my phone data, which I found in the market. It backups your text messages to sd card before you wipe and you can restore after. I find it quite helpful.
Make sure you restore apps only withTB don't restore data it can cause problems. I only restore data on a small hand full of apps individually.
If you use a custom launcher they can usually back up seeing and home screen use that.
I would suggest making a nand backup of a fresh stock rom before you install apps as to keep its size small

Also important to mention that if you go between different versions of Android then never restore system data as it will usually cause force closes

Yeah, I download Titanium and its da bomb, however, I was a bit concerned about overwriting system apps. If you do a complete restore, won't you bugger up your newly flashed device completely? I also noticed that when, for example, I restored Amazon WITH data, it made me enter my id and pw all over again.
Fortunately, I haven't bricked mine yet. I'm eager to avoid doing that as it would cost me $$$$ to replace it. Is it a problem returning a bricked device under warranty by essentially playing "dumb" user?
I only back up user apps.

Advanced restore in cwm, make a nandroid before you flash, then choose advanced restore and restore data, good to go, no app needed
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using XDA App
I always use Titanium backup for restoring the apps... There are a few in the market but most of them did not work well for me (although they have quite good rating). I have a Titanium free so I have to select the apps I want to re-install and do it one at a time if you are willing to spend money I will say that you get the paid version where it is much easier to re-install
N'joy

To be honest, I didn't know about this. And so this works when going from any ROM to any ROM?? It's as simple as that? No special considerations for certain situations?

[Q] Titanium Backup Restore

I upgraded my MIUI rom to 2.2.17 and wanted to restore my apps using tb donate version. When I go to batch restore, a force close box pops up every time. I've already done a fresh wipe, fixed permissions, and installed busybox from the problems tab on tb, but none of them worked. Any solutions?
1. Is it a clean install of ROM?
2. Are you restoring only missing apps and data?

Is the root on for your MIUI...believe in the settings you have to turn it on, that would keep TB from working correctly.
I purchased the key via the market...best $$ spent, When ever I put a fresh ROM on, I install TB & key, and then reinstall my "apps only" not apps with data.
Titanium Backup
I plunked down the $$$ for the paid version. Never had any problems with the app.
I do know that when coming from a Froyo based Rom (or stock) to a GB based ROM you aren't supposed to restore apps and data. Just apps.
The one issue I've had with TB is that even though I restore all my apps, and they work fine, the apps are now disconnected from the Android market. Meaning the market no longer thinks I have them installed on my phone. Won't receive any updates when that is the case. I even tried the Market tools within the app. Those didn't resolve the issue.
I went from Stock Froyo to Infused 2.2.3 to Zeus v5. In both cases, I had to manually re-install my apps on the market. Not a huge deal, but an inconvenience.

There is an option is TiBu that allows you to attach the app to market. Try using it. It should solve your issue. It works for me for certain apps like dropbox and google voice that I don't want to upgrade. Turned it back on for google voice recently and it worked.

One thing you can try - uninstall tibu (both paid & free) then reinstall in order - free, then key. I've had issues where app "keys" seem to get installed first and the app won't wort properly.

[Q] com.android.phone stopped unexpectedly loop

New G2x owner. Flashed Weapon 3.0, followed all steps correctly. All is good...EXCEPT when I restore dialer storage with Titanium Backup to get all my SMSs. Immediately after doing this, I get the dreaded "sorry, the application com.android.phone stopped unexpectedly" message loop, over and over and over again. I thought there could be a conflict with my Google synced contacts (that TB was trying to restore contacts that were already there) but I tried restoring the dialer storage with my contacts empty, and still got the message. Only way out of it is to use CWM and try over again.
Any ideas? Many thanks.

You could also try SMS Backup and restore from the Play Store. It is free. You should never restore any system apps and data when changing Roms. They don't play well together.
Or use GoSMS. Its what I use, and it gives you the option to email yourself the file. Also can make the apply backup automatically, every week or so.
