Try downloading couple of ROMs and mix up the features, cooking your own ROM!
I did same with Axura Rom in which I changed its framework.
Congrats you are newbie ROM developer

If you want to start from the ground up, start here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=998574

Start small!
Take existing roms and exchange parts for other parts you like.
Repeat until your phone won't boot anymore.
Investigate why the phone doesn't boot anymore.
Fix it.
Repeat step 1.
Thats how every rom basicly starts, a personal rom with little mods just for yourself until you are confident enough to provide others with a working rom and support and have a rom that others would actually want.

Learn how to work with ADB. At the beginning it's difficult, but with the time you get used to it.

Don't forget, after creating, support support support. People notice.

Especially since I released the "Official" upgrade on the 17th. I just put it in a more convenient package for everyone and let them have it early. Plus made it faster to download. Convenience isn't all it's cracked up to be, though...

haha that was my thought too when i looked up the instructions to install it via USC "wow this is a heckuva lot more steps".

you might wanna watch it...phidelt is one of our best, and only, dev for the mesmerize. its people like him that keep awesome mods coming out for this phone.

Question about the official upgrade
Forgive the noob question, but does anyone know if the official release will unroot your phone using the techniques and software provided by USC? I'm technically savvy but this is still somewhat new to me. I've used Odin to root my phone and upgrade to the unofficial leak. I've had a number of software crashes since. I also found out, since I didn't do proper research before jumping onto the bandwagon, after the fact, that rooting will void the warranty. I'd like to unroot it, but I just need to know if this will do it or if I need to unroot it before I upgrade. Thanks!

Apparently, it's been reported that the official update will, indeed, unroot your phone as well. Sorry for the wasted space.

If you install the official upgrade with the Odin files it will also "unroot" your phone. I say that because it's just putting a fresh system image on your phone so of course it will be "unrooted". The better option would be to install the pre-rooted version that has the 2e recovery as well so you can install custom ROMs and such.

How safe are roms?

Someone just sent sprint a large payment from you account over their automated system and they can't tell me who it was!! I do run custom roms on my phone and have sent a payment online. Kinda thinking about taking all of them back to stock thanks to this mess. Anyone have an idea this makes no since at all. I think it was done over a rom on my sprint phone.

I think you are looking in the wrong direction,the rom has nothing to do with it. try figuring out which free apk you download that is stealing your information...

I would agree but i think its this dam Samsung Transform rom from SDX if i was using an xda rom I wouldn't second guess it

I told him to do so, so he could go to completely another forum (not XDA) and ask this noob question there, where nobody knows him.
Now you get it?
It would be very funny experience for him to find out what other people on other frums know about SGS4 or phone flashing at all.

I would probably get people telling me off and not wanting to teach me... Happens a lot on these forums, luckily the constant S4 questions have kind of died down here and people like myst tend to point them in the right direction instead of just making a fuss about it.

Why not just report it and move on?
Anyhow, congrats on new device, go forth & make it great like you did for sgs4g..
