Hoping one of you might be able to point me in the right direction.
I have a Nexus One that I would like to use a MicroSim on. I have tried two different brand of adapters, and found that both of them are too "think" to fit into the Nexus. What happens is, after getting about 1/4th of the way in, it gets really tight. At that point, it can be forced in, which I did up to about half way. When I tried to take it back out, I had to use pliers afterward.
So, obviously I am worried about breaking the Nexus is I try to go further with these ones I have bought. The Nexus still works, and is wonderful with a normal Sim. But I would really like to get this Micro working.
Also, just as it is important to note, I have made sure I am inserting it the first direction, the notch is in the right place, etc. It is really coming down to how think the adapter is.
What I think I need here is as thin an adapter as I can find. Anyone have any suggestions on one to try, and where I might be able to buy it? Also, if anyone has successfully used a microsim adapter I would love to hear it.
Thanks
Jim
Why dont you just cut up a plastic card? just print out a stencil and cut yourself an adapter

Thats not a bad idea, but frankly I suck so bad at making anything by hand it is normally easier, and higher success rate, to just buy something most of time.
On the other hand, based off of the amount of information I have been able to dig up on this (in other words, next to nothing), I might just have to give that a shot.
Thanks
Jim
Why do you want to use a micro sim card, can't you just ask your carrier to give you a fullsized sim card?
Well since there are only about 2 devices that are popular which use micro sims, hes probably sharing a plan between his nexus with an iphone/ipad.
Both of these are tested and working on my Nexus One. The Amazon one being a more secure fit for the card. The links are to the stores actually purchased from so should be exactly the same.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003OG8G6W/ref=oss_product
http://negrielectronics.com/mini-uicc-microsim-adapter.html
I switch the SIM back and forth with my IP4 and Nexus One all the time and both are solid. No flames please. I'm still an Android guy. The IP4 was purchased cheap from someone who didn't like it.
If its too think maybe try some sandpaper on the adapter? It really shouldnt take much sanding to get it to fit

That should be your first plan. Sand it a little then if that doesnt work spend the money to get the other adapter
+1 on the Amazon one.
I use it myself and it works perfectly. Much better than others I've used.
FYI - I bought a total of three of the adapters from Amazon. The one linked earlier in this thread is the only one that would fit.
So thanks for the link to it!
And yeah, I was lazy and never sanded anything down. Sorry, but my luck I would screw that up. I am not handy in anyway at all.
Thanks for all the great suggestions everyone.

eeekkk. that's asking for a road kill LMFAO!
I used my Hero on the bike.
Great when going for long cycle rides to track the distance/elevation...etc.
Never even worried me as the holders are very good.
Trying to buy a carkit now, well at $0 I thought "why not!" .....
Just trying to pay but Paypal is in Japanese or Chinese.
It would be fun on a bike but I think I'd be scared. Maybe in a few months I'll be less precious about it.
Change Paypal language to English in top right.
Just bought the Cradle with 2nd Battery Charger + Stylus + Anti-Static and UV Treatment.
Stylus? And how's the anti static and UV thing work?
Will try post pics and write a review when it turns up.

Nope, but I'm not that bothered about a stylus. Should be interesting to see how sturdy it is. Don't like the look of how close the track ball is to the base, for $26 it's worth finding out though.
I know this has probably been answered elsewhere, but the dock connections on the bottom of the Nexus, are we to assume they do charging and data connection without having to have a plug go into the micro USB port?

yeah. im guessing your guess is as good as mine. but for some strange i believe that the dock that you ordered will be charging using a USB connection. but like i said ill keep my eye on this thread to see how you make out.
It appears they do that unfathomable thing of shipping free worldwide like some Chinese companies seem to be able to do. Mine's being shipped to the UK.
Just ordered me one of those.
I hate universal holders and I hate passive holders. This seems like the best choice right now, since the official merchandise is still not in sight...

I have one. It works super. You'll be really happy with it.
Google is missing the boat huge on this car dock.
That's good to hear, MadFlava. I had one of those for my previous phone (Touch Diamond) and that one has served me perfectly too.
Installed mine yesterday. I love it. The cords are ugly but I'll work on that when I get a chance.
Yup, I have one and would recommend them too
Well, received mine today, and... my Nexus One does not fit??? It will not slide far enough over the micro-usb connection.... any of you guys experienced anything like this?
It does not charge now... and there's like 2mm of space left between the bottom of my Nexus One and the holder.. I've used force to some extent, but it just will not slide any further..

I'm new here so I can't post links but go to androidforums.com and search for the thread ProClip Mounting System. In there you'll find a guy (dbpaddler) that has a lot of knowledge about these mounts. He's a re-seller for Brodit I think. Tell him about your problem and maybe he can help.

Sounds very odd. Can you post us a few pictures of what's going on?
See attachment. The micro-usb connector in the holder is about 4.5mm high, but my Nexus One will only slide over it like for 2mm and then it feels like it is blocked by something. I've used force, but no movement whatsoever.
I find it strange too.. I don't see anything odd on the connector, nor on the female connector on my Nexus One. I guess I'll take it back to the store...
How odd. It looks like the connector is slightly left of centre, if you use the trackball to be centre... no jiggling will make it fit?
It may look a bit off-centre due to my photography skills, it looks okay in real life. Jiggling or forcing does not help unfortunately. Of course the connector that came with my Nexus One charger fits nicely, and I don't see any peculiarities when I compare it to the one on the Brodit.
Anyhow, I logged an issue with the webshop that I bought it from and they happen to have a brick-and-mortar store some 50km from here, so I may drop by to demonstrate my problem. Thanks for your help.
Do you have a body skin on the phone?
Nope, no skin. Going to the store later today to have the holder replaced, they think it may just be a faulty unit. Will keep you all posted.
Well, guess what.... just returned from the store, and the replacement holder that they offered had exactly the same problem. The sales guy was as astonished as I was. Personally he had not sold any of these, since the Nexus One is officially not available yet here in the Netherlands, so demand is minimal, but it makes me wonder if I'm really the only one with this problem, and whether my specific Nexus One could be the problem...
Anyway, he took mine back and I was fully refunded, so kudos for pdashop.nl.
Downside: still no carmount for me.
I have one too, it does fit but, I had to wiggle it a little bit to get it in......
It was not just straight forward. I will have a go tonight and see if it still play hard to get.
anyway once plugged, it worked fine for me.
We (both me and the sales guy in the store) used force and wiggled, but to no avail. Besides, I don't want a holder that needs wiggling in the first place. I want it to fit perfectly. That's why I do not buy a universal holder but a Nexus-specific one.
I got mine and it fits perfect.

Yeah update, just tried and fitted like a glove. must have loosen up
does the charger model charge the phone at 500ma or 1000ma? can someone with one check the settings and see if it says charging usb or ac?
The Site is not in english. how do you guys understand what information to fill out when ordering? also can you guys please post some pics? with the dock already in place? just wondering what its going to look like in my car.
Due to an appauling battery life on the othewise brilliant "superphone", I am trying to find a solution where I can charge it often using a USB port in computers/laptops etc at workplace or outside.
Has anyone come across a USB-micorUSB charging cable which is available like a small dangle we can attach to a key chain/ring? I have seen retractable ones on the internet, they are not small enough to be attached to a keyring. Any experience?
Thanks.

I wonder if that would work or not.
The small clip that holds the 2 sides together looks like it could potentially get in the way when connecting the mini usb to some phones.
Sadly, they seem to be sold out as well.

That last one looks great, they have both the S series and W series connectors on there that look cool. ( I like the look of the W series as it looks a bit smaller and thats the point of the cable.) But can anyone see where we can actually buy these?

They'll charge you for the privilege of having your Xoom held in their hands. Do it yourself dude. Just go and buy a torx screwdriver.
I strongly encourage you to pick up a Torx driver set, they are relatively inexpensive and you will find the ROI to be much greater than paying someone to do it for you.
Personal experience, My T6 worked fine too. Instead of a spudger, I used a few bent paper clips, I think a cut up gift/credit card would work better though.
well, I went to BB, and saw a buddy of mine there; he walked me over to the Geek Squad, told them to take care of me, and the guy did it for free!!
You guys are right; its time to buy a set of tiny torx screwdrivers..
thanks for all your suggestions!
There was another user, several months ago, who managed to extrack his SD card by using a pair of tweezers, holding his Xoom upside down and shaking it. Said that it took multiple tries...
Has anyone had success with cutting their MiniSIM to MicroSIM format?
I just got my Nexus 5 today and did not realize it needs a MicroSIM. I was just going to use my old phone's MiniSIM and was able to research I might still be able to do that by cutting it into the right format. It seems simple enough and I downloaded and printed template, but I wanted to hear some firsthand experiences before I give it a go.

I've done it... it works fine.
Just make it a little bigger to start with and then fine-tune it with a nail file or similar.
Also don't force it into the slot if it still seems too wide or you might get it jammed and damage the slot.

I'm glad I posted, the nail file is a good idea I would have missed otherwise.
Just to report back, it worked like a charm and cost me maybe 3-4 mins. I used one of the many templates one can find online, stuck the SIM to the printout using double-sided tape and then used a utility blade to cut the card, applying lots of presure with one my fingers on the card to hold the card in place. I didn't even need the file.
You know your network provider will just send you out one for free if you phone and ask

Why do people bother cutting SIM cards? Why not just get the right SIM card from your carrier? If your carrier is so pretentious that they would charge you to swap a SIM card, I'd seriously reconsider buying your service from them in the first place.
T-Mobile is pretty good about giving out free SIM cards. I just didn't want to wait. And I enjoy DIY :good:
