Apply to rooting a Hero on 2.31.651.7?
I was not lazy, maybe I'm just bad at searching, but I couldn't find anything directly related to the new release.
Thanks in advance, and sorry for my ignorance.
No changes, it still applies
Rooting guides for all versions are available on the wiki here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Hero_CDMA#Rooting_Guides.
Can't Confirm -
But have hear that Z4root app off of the market work on .7 update.

I've been using various Cyanogen and Hero ROMs since June and have now reverted back to the stock Vodafone UK ROM. In general the stock stuff is fine, it's quick and bluetooth audio works for phone and media. I need root access though to use Bluex for bluetooth file send/receive and pushing the HTC_IME keyboard
What I'd like to know is does anyone know how to root the new Donut release?
I've tried the Haykuro's rootmesigned but get a FC and constant reboot...it was worth a try
there is already a full solution for you.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=565929
I used it on mine and works perfectly, no flaws. Install that and you are done.
yeah there is a way. but im not going to answer because this is in the wrong section. read the stickies up top, search around, then post in the right section and maybe you will get more answers.

Aw gee thanks...NOT
If you don't have anything contructive to add then don't.
I spent hours searching and read through countless threads. For your info I have been installing ROMS since they came out in May (before the Wiki was in place), have contributed and would you believe it I have even been thanked for my help, I am comfortable with using ADB, Fastboot etc, am familiar with linux and have read the stickies.
Is asking about a rooted ROM not developement? Have YOU read the stickies because from what I have read, surprise surprise, in this section there is a sticky up above here about hacking and rooting. As far as I'm aware any developement focused questions would be posted in the developement section not general.
If I'm wrong them I'm quite happy to follow the MODS rules and their directions.
Are you going to repeat your post with questions about OTA updates being in the wrong section too?
P.S. the very helpful 'htcmagic' had already spoiled it for you
@BigRD: no problem mate, glad i could help. I installed the rom above and i am extremely happy with it. I have also installed busybox on it too.
Its much faster that vodafones original.
Hey mate, try Amon_Ra's Donut Rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=538645
Very fast and stable with Root and others. I'm using it on my vodafone magic. Works really nice.
Or alternatively just go back to Cyanogen. Its Donut and it has more features than any other rom on this site so...its all up to you
@widezu69 & @htcmagic Cool, thanks guys.
I spent a lot of time with Cyanogen's ROMs up until the Google thing happened and was running eViL's Hero ROMs up to v3.0. I wanted to get back to a smoothish stock ROM issued by my network supplier but rooted by one of the great developers on XDA. I keep finding that other than the Vodafone original and the Google ION ROM bluetooth audio for phone and multi media working at the same time is very hit or miss. Am going to give both versions posted here a try over the next few days
Another one who wants a Rooted Vodafone Donut
I am also searching for a method to root a stock Vodafone Magic 32B that has had an OTA Donut update.
The answers on the thread so far involve flashing a new Donut Rom - my issue is that I have Donut already, and have never rooted - I am assuming the Root instructions included in the Wiki and Relentless Rooter are only aimed at Cupcake.....or am I wrong?
Any help/advice appreciated....
rooting the magic 1.6
Hi folks, dito as above. I've been up half the night trying to work this out. Have recently bought an htc magic from vodafone, and been 'updated' to doughnut 1.6. Not bad, but I'm really keen to get root on this, and eventually install the latest rom from cyanogen...
Seems there are now a few issues for people like me wanting to root their handsets... so far I've managed to erase my user settings, but keep getting errors trying to flash a rom. Followed the link above to nk02's thread, and no luck. Same issue, update aborts. There must be an easier way...
nk02 says his ROM works with 'wipe + flash'. How the heck do I do that? Seems this latest update to 1.6 has made all the other methods of gaining root obsolete... I'm far from a linux novice, and would love some advice here. And please don't tell me to keep searching, solid help would be appreciated. Cheers.
Hi all,
After spending a couple of hours searching through the forums I still can't figure out the exact steps to upgrade my phone's rom.
As I stated in the title I have an HTC Magik with Rom version 1.5 locked to operator and I want upgrade it to 1.6.
From some thread I could discover that my phone is a 32A.
From here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=565929 I read that I can apply this Rom and after I can patch it to make it run in a 32A phone. But still I don't know the exact steps to do this.
Can anyone, point me some clear threads where I can find information on how to do this or provide me the full information here, please?
Sorry if this is not the right place for this thread or if this was already asked a ton of times. I searched through the forum and also looked to the sticky threads and I couldn't find anything clear for a newbie.
Thanks.
Cheers,
Joao

Easy four step process.
1. Post in the right place, like general or Q & A.
2. Learn about your device, like SPL and Radio, Board etc.
3. SEARCH. It's easy to do.
4. Follow the guides or wiki guide to modding your device.
Really, just try searching. All this information has been discussed alot.
http://theunlockr.com/how-tos/android-how-tos/
Same way you root any G1....
I'm having the same problem, and no, don't say read up or do a search, been there done that. Infact, I did root my g1 originally to try out a ROM, then unrooted it and thats when I got an update for the DMD64 build.
Anyone any luck with rooting a DMD64?
u gotta downgrade your firmware to r29 before rooting again
Go to the unlockr.com and search for how to make a goldcard for your micro SD then follow the rooting step then you should be OK
If you need any more help let me know.

The Development Forum is only for development discussion. This is not development related.
Thread closed.
As a side note: Have you tried downgrading (as you would with any other G1?)
... no likey TouchWiz. AT. ALL.
So, I have a few questions:
1) I am currently on Firmware Version 2.2.1. Is this the "ED1" or "ED2" that I see listed in various postings?
2) I want to root - Real bad. I need to restore my apps & settings from my old Droid using MyBackupRoot. But, I also want to be able to unroot, if necessary - in case I need to return the phone. Can I root/unroot easily at this time?
Thanks!
¿GotJazz?
Be prepared, guys are gonna blow you up for asking this question!
You can root and you will need more info on what version you have ED1/ED2.
LOL @ 2.2.1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Maybe you can read the forums or do a search.
Hey psalm462. how you doing? get your Droid Charge yet?
I *did* do a search before posting. Do you know how many posts (useful or otherwise) there are out there on this topic?
I saw earlier, my in my Settings >> About phone >> Build Number is SCH-i510.ED2 I'm assuming that means I'm on "ED2".
Regarding the rooting, I found this thread: HERE. This is for phones already on ED2.
Regarding the unrooting, I found this thread: HERE. You downgrade to stock ED1, and then take the OTA update to ED2.
GotJazz- Check out the development forums for the Charge. There are many threads regarding rooting/un-rooting.

Am I missing something here? The link above points to the Infuse 4G forum. I was not aware that the platforms were the same. If that is the case, then we have a working CWM mod ported from the captivate and a whole host of other roms to try.
If not, then somebody just borked a phone.
First of all, I would like to thank in advance the guys who answer my questions.
1)I ve read some threads about Xoom and I see most of you are in 3.2 and in Europe we don't have even 3.1 . How can I make it to be a US version to get the updates? Is it safe or should I wait?
2)My first priority is to find a way to root my device. I saw a one-click root way but the files are offline from xda and it says that it has issues with EUR versions. Whats your advice? Can you help me with the steps because I dont have much android knowledge?
3)Whats your opinion about custom roms for Xoom and how can I flash from 3.01?
Thanks again, and if you have any suggestions on what apps you love using in your xoom it would be great
Apps go the apps section and read.
Changing to us version and flashing roms etc go to the development section and read.
You clearly don't like to chat m8, If I found a topic for EUR but the links are offline as I said before. There are people who like to share their knowledge thats why its a q/a thread and not app section or dev section.

Hi there, welcome to the Xoom family.
Like every family, some members like to talk and others don't.
It's true that the threads you want are mostly in the Development section.
Since you are on Wifi only it should be pretty easy for you to flash the US wifi image (you will actually find that in the 1st post in General) but you should read a bit just to make sure you know what steps to take. Also, language packs are available if you need a language other than English, French or Spanish, but there may be some complications.
I would advise you against using any type of one click rooting method. The Xoom is easy to unlock and root, but is more complicated than many phones. On the plus side, it's pretty hard to brick as long as you follow instructions. Prepare to use adb and you'll do fine. Once you've unlocked and flashed the US image, you will get the OTA updates as soon as you are on a wifi connection. This is where you need to see which rooting method will be best for you. You will need to install the Tiamat Clockwork Mod Recovery 3.2.0.0 (from solarnz's thread) so you can flash from the micro sdcard) There are ways to root from 3.0, 3.1 and from 3.2. Head over to the Development section and look for what you want. Once you are rooted, check out the Team Tiamat Xoom Rom 2.0 Manta Ray. It really rocks. You will have to wipe user data for many of these steps, so don't bother with setting up more than you have to until you are at you final destination, so to speak.
Good luck!
