Am i right in thinking that the CU S420 doesn offer any kinds of handsfree? Its basically just a charger and holder?
If not, is there anything available which is similar, but offers handsfree/speaker as well?
Thanks.
You're right, even though it is possible to use the phone speaker and mic from the car, much as you could anywhere else (except the phone goes on speaker by itsself when its in the dock).
As carkits go, the sound is awful. A more powerful speaker system would make listening to it in a (relatively noisy) car a lot more pleasant. A decent directional microphone would pick up on a lot less noise than the builtin mic does.
You might want to look into a separate bluetooth carkit with a separate microphone. This kit does offer a solid and stable holder for the phone as well as a charge cable.
thanks.. ordered one, will couple it with a parrot ck3100 now, thanks.
got one of these now.. very well made, but the lining up of the power plug into the phone is a nightmare. They should have left the top open and just let people slide the phone in.
Can anyone recommend a carkit better than this then? I've heard that the car panel doesn't load if you've got 2.2 either?
I'm try to find my dad a good in-car dock and I want to be able to couple it with a form of car dock panel?
Not much information is written regarding this particular car holder. I have decided to buy it, after spending money for a cheaper one from PhoneM8, which is ok but not great... I am VERY happy I bought the CU S420.
If anyone is interested, I have written an extensive review of the CU S420 on amazon:

Read that on Amazon. Just to make shure: This dock automatically triggers Car Home on the Desire?!
I've been looking for that feature a long time and avoided buying this cradle because of its price until now. Did you ever try to launch successfully any other car dock app with this cradle (Custom Car Home, MyCarDock e.g.)?

Yes it does. It turns car mode on and launches any installed software for car mode. I have tried google car home (imho the best) and navipanel.
Feel free to ask any other questions... Best regards.
Thanks a lot. Further questions will be answered by the dock itsself.
I already ordered one this afternoon.
Sorry for re-opening this old thread.
Could anyone owning the CU S420 let me know whether or not they believe a HTC Desire fitted with a protective case (Otterbox in my case) would still fit into this car holder?
Thanks
No, it won't. It's a very tight fit.

Hi All,
Before the site went down someone had asked if it had an external mic.. which is does not. The only thing i can think of if somebody would be kind enough to help me out so everytime i plug the Diamond into the car kit i run a program which changes the registry to allow mic to be enabled while in cradle. As i do not have those skills was wondering if somebody could help me out. Willing to donate to anyone that help me.
Regards
Ray
So that thingy you got there acts like a headset?
I guess it's possible to find the registrykey for enabling phone mic while headset is active...
yes that is right...... all it does is just transfer the sound via FM transmitter to radio in car. all i need help with registry keys. a program like diamond tweak would be cool where you could just enable and disable.
i am also interested about this product. Could you please tell me if the car charger charges the phone's battery or the transmitter's (if it has one)? And a second one:can i use the transmitter without the charger connected?
Can you link to the seller you bought this from? I'm looking for the exact same thing. Also interested in getting the phone mic working while in headset mode.

The charger that comes with it doesn't look like it'll work with the Diamond, based off of these pictures (non-usb). And does any1 know of an American/English site I could buy it from?
I've just ordered one. I expect it doesn't just power the FM transmitter but also the Diamond. I am hoping to get around the microphone issue by using bluepower to enable my bluetooth connection when it is charging and then using a bluetooth headset. I don't really want to use this FM transmitter/charger as a hands free device, but just keep using my bluetooth headset instead.
I will report back it this all works when I get it!
Ok, the thing finally arrived.... After 20 minutes of playing around with it, it is already broken.... Here's the story:
It arrived with no instructions (not that any are needed) and appeared to be of poor quality manufacture. Not like the Brodit one which I intended to replace with it.
My Diamond didn't slide in very well at all. It took a lot of fiddling to get the male charger into the female diamond mini USB. They weren't lined up very well. I expect that as the Diamond is far superior in quality, it is not the Diamond that is at fault but the charger/transmitter.
Once connected, the music quality was very good at times. I compared this to my ipod (which is connected directly to the car arial) by playing the same song on both. The music quality from the Diamond was actually better, so the FM transmitter was working well indeed.
However, there are intermittent "noises". I don't really know how to describe these as it was not typical interference, but kind of basey crackling. This was very intermittent though and this could be caused by being tested in London where there are hardly any frequencies free. I contined my test on various frequencies even when not moving the car and this noise was there on all of them....
I think this would have been enough to make this device annoying enough to be binned in itself.
A third attempt at inserting my Diamond in the cradle was much easier. Well, that's what I thought.... The male USB in the FM transmitter had actually broken now. It had slid back into it's casing. The only way to retrieve it would be to break the damn thing open. Enough was enough. I had finished my experimenting with this thing.
To make matters worse, the thick film on the home/back/talk/end part of my Diamond is now peeling off. I assume my struggling to get it in this FM transmitter cradle had snagged it. That's a real bugger because I guess that as it has now started to peel off, it will continue to snag on everything and eventually tear off completely. I'm not sure how this will affect it's functionality, but it certainly won't help. I expect the capacitive sensor in sensor scroll will no longer work once it has peeled off fully..... Probably time for a Diamond 2!!!
To conclude, my advice is not to buy this product as it (1) may harm your Diamond; (2) waste £20odd; and (3) cause frustration with the "noise".
The good points with this though, if you do decide to go ahead, are that you can use a bluetooth headset (with Bluepower). So if a phone call should come in whilst you are listening to music, you can simply take the call through the bluetooth headset and the music is automatically turned off. The microphone on the headset is used....

Good Looking man, preciate that review. I think i'm just gonna stick with a simple cassette adaptor to play music through the car. That way you don't have to worry about the static noise.
That's unfortuante that it's not the best build quality. How snug is the fit? I have a Sprint Touch Diamond so I might have to get the Touch Pro version to ensure it fits, but it might not be snug enough. More importantly, I'd rather get the phone's mic working with it and just activate the mic when in handsfree mode.
I live in Australia and on the first moderately hot day the whole thing pretty much fell apart, turns out they have used cheap hot glue to join every piece.
First the pole going into the suction cap fell out while i was driving, so i repaired it with decent glue. Then, later the mirco USB plug sticking out of the base disappeared inside, and after i pulled the holder apart i found it was also held there with the same crappy glue.
Anyway i would not recommend buying this car kit but if anyone could work out how to enable the microphone it would be much appreciated
I may be crazy but I believe I read Google saying there would also be a car dock accompanying the desktop dock. Is this still coming? The only ones I have seen are 3rd party from China, and don't appear reliable. If it's coming is this the dock that resembles are Garmin GPS window holder?
I posted this in a different thread, but today I noticed that in the official support pages it used to say, "You can use Car Home whether or not you have a Nexus One car dock the optional accessory(coming soon)."
now it says, "You can use Car Home whether or not you have a Nexus One car dock the optional accessory available from http://google.com/phone."
hopefully this means the official car dock will be joining the desk dock on the order screen any day now.
Hopefully it is soon, as I really want the desktop dock but don't want to pay separate shipping to UK for both.
I've been checking often because this is the one accessory that I've been waiting and waiting for its arrival. What are the chances that it will have an audio out plug? I know I could use the headphone jack but I'd like to see a dedicated audio out and power input to the dock.
The car Dock is mentioned in the help files at the Nexus site at google .com/phone
Im also waiting till there both available before I buy, to save on shipping. I hope its available soon, can't wait till I can use it!
I really hope that it's not a suction mount only!
I'd only get it it if can be fixed to my proclip mount, no vent clip or suction cup for me!
Anybody in the UK fancy splitting on postage and ordering two when available?

Thats gotta be the worst tease I have seen in a while . I would probably cry (getting the home dock instead).
But good news for the rest of us indeed . Thanks for putting that out there that that crazy thing happened.
Hi
Does anybody know of a music dock with speaker and amplifier to play music?
There is several avalibel for the iPhone but i can't finde any for the DHD :-(
I'd also like any information on this too. I've missed a great music dock since my W800i.
It amazes me that there is such a huge selection of iPod docks yet I do not know of one single mini USB dock - wtf?

Yeah. Sometimes it's just easier to go with the flow! In the sense that if a music dock was a deal-breaker then best get an iPod/iPhone as there're plenty of alternatives.
Though you can get Bluetooth ones or ones with a 3.5mm aux input which would work. Depends whether you want to charge at the same time. It'd be nice to.
Dave
PS: don't ask me for links as I've seen them whilst *surfing* the web but not book-marked them as I'm not after one myself!
Any news about this ? I'm interested of buying one 'music dock'. Anyone found something?

Why not just buy a pair of PC speakers?
I cant really see what docking would add extra feature-wise. Unless you can simulate the buttons from the headphones.
PC speakers? Hardly a great way to listen to music from our DHD's.
A dock I am after will hold the DHD, charge it & play music from it.

It will still be a hellovalot better than the builtin speaker
Edit: Are you looking for something portable? That you keep on your lap? My 10 year old Creative Inspire 440 4.1 speaker set is small and makes a crap load of noise.
I'm after something that would sit happily on a sideboard or table, and not look out of place.
I ideally want the DHD equivalent of the B&W Zeppelin iPod HiFi system. I can dream....
If we can't find a complete set, I think a simple dock with 3.5mm out it will be good ... with a good set of speakers.
I run a 3.5mm to L+R RCA cable to a NAD Amp, running to 2 floor standing 300w Speakers and I can tells you ... I certainly get better sound than any of the iPod docks get!
Spare charger runs right next to it on a phone stand thing and I'm sorted.
I posted the adaptor cable earlier but that was only for interest. On my office desk I have a Celjel stand and connect a mains charger and an amp to my DHD. The amp is connected to my PC as well but I use an amp so that I can use decent speakers ....
In the living room where my main stereo is I was going to get one of these ... http://www.amazon.co.uk/QED-uPLAY-WIRELESS-BLUETOOTH-RECEIVER/dp/B003BF0OF2/ref=pd_sim_sbs_ce_6 ... sounds expensive but it gets great reviews. So then the DHD gets played through my floor standing Mission speakers .. . All I need on top of that is a cheap fleabay charging stand for it to sit on the stereo stand. Sorted!
Dave
I know this is a slightly old thread but wondering if anyone has found a good music dock? I am after a small portable music dock, preferably one which charges the DHD at the same time, but would settle for a decent one with just 3.5mm connector.
Any recommendations?
I love it when old, but still useful, threads get revived.
Sadly I could not find a dock that I liked. So I made my own from a chunk of timber, a male to male 3.5mm jack and my wifes old SGS charger.
It took about 5 hours to get it right and sanded down, finished with a coat of teak oil.
I roughly followed this guide, but its set about 4-5mm into the wood leaning back and has a smaller back board.
Perfect bank holiday weekend project!
I wish you could just buy something like this http://www.talkandroid.com/guides/ipod-dock-adapter-for-motorola-droidmilestone/ instead of having to make it yourself

Although its a bit inconvenient, i plug my charger in and my logitech z2300s. Absolutely amazing sound with srs turned on.

If you want something a bit more custom for your car ie not something that is real ugly and sticks to a windscreen or dash (although I do like the DIY mount above), then the Brodit stuff is what you are after. They have mounts that will connect to most desirable places in most makes of car such are air vents, or middle to lower dash. The mounts snap in place. Then you can buy the holders which can be active or passive.
I gad one for my HTC TD2, cracking but also expensive and the mounts are car specific. However, by far the coolest and sleekest installation out there.
http://www.morpethmobiles.co.uk/brodit-active-holder-car-charger-tilt-swivel-htc-desire.asp
If it's suction mount you're after, than it has to be Herbert Richter, if you're after one installed, than Brodit. These are two of the best mounts available.
Can anyone tell me if the Brodit active cradles auto launch the car panel for the HTC desire. If not what options do I have other than the official HTC mount.
I am running LeeDriod 2.4 and that has an app called Car home installed is this the best car app?

Whats the "car panel"? I have a Brodit Active mount and an HTC Desire, but noticed no such app. I have a standard Orange ROM on the phone, and am not even sure if this is installed - what is it and what does it do? I haven't heard of Car home either, but they sound interesting.
If I can test anything fo you, I will.

Car Home is an app found on the Nexus One which basically makes your phone easier to use in the car, giving large icons which can be customised to show whatever features you want.
Here it is in the android market, https://market.android.com/details?...&rdid=com.google.android.carhome&rdot=1&pli=1
Sadly it won't let you install it on your Desire but you can get around that by searching for car home apk files.
EDIT, think i found the APK files here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9417201&postcount=9

IGo is a satnav looking for a car home replacement. Went with the Brodit doesn't auto launch but managed to set up a locale to enable it.
You can set up the standard Google Car Home (see link above) to lauch when it detects a certain BT device. Mine launches when it sees the Parrot carkit and that seems to work OK. Maybe the same will work for you.
Dont forget that if you have a silicon skin/case on your desire it will not fit in a dock designed for a desire without removing the skin each time. I bought an iPhone3GS suction mount and it just about slides in with the Genuine HTC skin still on the phone.
Brodt is fantastic and with carhome and vlingo running things work just right for me.

Good quality HTC Desire holder. And very cheap also.
I can confirm this webshop is very legit. Only shippingdays will take 2~3 weeks to europe.
I've also bought a car charger at Dealextreme, but that quality sucked hard.
So I know this isn't specific to the Note 4, but thought I'd share... feel free to remove if not appropriate. Thanks!
http://aluratek.com/istream-universal-bluetooth-audio-receiver
I actually ran across this thing while making copies at Kinkos. LOL!
I didn't buy it there though... they were charging way to much for it. I ended up picking it up from the local Best Buy for $25.
Anyway, I like how small the thing is. It works great. I put a velcro sticky dot on the back side of it and then one on the dash near the AUX port (headphone jack) to mount and it's quite minimal and unobtrusive.
I've not used it super extensively yet so can't speak to battery live though the package claims 12 hours. I can say that it paired without issue to the Note and worked perfectly. Quite a nice little device for those of us with older car stereos that don't have built in bluetooth.
On the downside, it does not work for calls or anything like that. Calls can come though just fine, but the bluetooth cuts off and you have to use the phone in normal mode. Bluetooth comes back on and music resumes once the call is ended. Would have been nice if it pumped the call through the car speakers too, but oh well.
Anyway, just a quick review. Ask questions if you have them. Thanks!
