i need a screen protector for my phone. however the makes i thought that were the best dont seem to be.
Alot of people including myself havnt been very happy with martin fields SP's lately, and ive heard mixed reviews about the zagg ones.
so what would you lot reccomend for the desire on a budget of around £10 ??
Thanks
I've had no issues at all with my MF protector, got it as soon as they came out (literally first batch) and haven't looked back
i'm interested to know what the official HTC P360's are like, and the ones that come with the case mate cases.
If the HTC ones are anything like the HD2 ones they'll be terrible
The problem with the official HTC ones for me was that they are exactly the same size as the screen, and I found it impossible to get it applied so that none of the edges were hanging over. This meant that air bubbles always leaked in and I just couldn't get a good fit. I bought some cheap ones of eBay which I got a much better application with.
I got mine from SuperEtrader-UK on amazon. only a couple of quid for six and they are excellent. plus they were delivered in 2 days. was so impressed that i also bought a (again cheap) case from them.
I've had the HTC one on my phone since May:
http://www.play.com/Mobiles/Mobile/...-Screen-Protector-SP-P360/ProductReviews.html
It went on perfectly and I haven't had to use the second one yet.
I have an invisibleshield from www.zagg.com, delivered in about 3 days.
i have used these on about 5 different devices
I put the zagg one on before using the phone. It went on well (front, back and button area) - but the screen one seems to have some nasty marks on it after a few days.
Thankfully zagg do free replacements under their lifetime warranty, so I'm getting a replacement sent out. It still costs $4 dollars postage though, and I have to pay to return the damaged one to somewhere in America! I guess I'd probably be cheaper buying a new one!

This is what I went with for mine:
Crystal Skin
Should be similar to the ones that were popular with the myTouch / Magic. The resin TPU ones.
And for screen protectors I will see if these are any good. Seems to be an invisible shield / BSE clone.
As long as they hold up until more accessories become available I'm fine.
I don't think the cases from fommy are good because some of the cases block the proximity sensor on the phone.
I've had the resin TPU one on my magic for quite some time, and its the best I have ever used. It doesnt add alot of weight to the phone, and lso one of the easiest to install.
I really hope somebody comes out with a carbon fiber case, that would be sweet.
I am getting the privacy screen protector from Fommy and I'll post back my findings on the sucker.
It'll be cool if moshi comes out w/ something. My friend has one for her iphone and it looks sweet! It is very stream-lined and doesn't make your phone any fatter. I typically hate cases. However, I think what moshi has looks pretty sweet.

That skin looks pretty cool. Care to share any pics of it installed onto your phone when you have a moment?
I know in the past people were saying that magnetic closures messed up the G1's compass over time. Is that turning out to be true? I would think the N1 and any other phone with a compass would suffer the same fate if that is the truth. I like having my compass..
I bought the Ferrari car charger from that site. I ain't get it yet but when I will, ill post a review.
never order from fommy! i had the worst experience with them. i ordered the screen protector and the clear case (both were pre-order).. and also another screen protector for my N97.. later realized they didnt have the cheapest deals.. wanted to cancel the order the same day i ordered them. called customer service, noone picked up. tried a hundred times.. emailed them as well to no avail. come monday, i get a confirmation email that one of the items was shipped. argh! finally after calling nonstop, a customer rep finally picked up. I can only be refunded for the two items that hasn't shipped yet.

Sorry to hear you had such a bad experience with fommy. I on the other hand had no problem with the site. I had no problem calling them and asking them and speaking to a representative.
What about the battery they have...That doesnt look like the right battery! It says it fits 3-4 phones....Dosent look right...What do yall think?
Be very careful ordering from Fommy
Anyone with a few minutes should take a look at this forum thread. It is a long thread and I don't expect anyone to read it all. The bottom line is Fommy does not have much of a credibility when it comes to their salespeople.

ok sorry to start a new thread here but am desparate, to get a temporary screen , for my desire, before i scratch it. i ordered one on line from play.com, but heaven knows when it will be delivered, so please, arcoding to you guys, what is the best alternative, that i can buy in the shop, for this phone, in the time being, obviously, bearing in mind there isnt one for the desire yet, but what alternatives can i buy, that are proven, to have worked, based on your experience, i want to buy one preferably, this morning before i fly.thanks.
play will deliver the screen protectors i think sometime next week. Its pretty hard to scratch the screen but have you tried going down to the local camera shop and getting a generic plastic cover which you can stick on and remove when your genuine arrives? failing that just look after it.
I'm using a htc hero protector for now, fits over the active screen but not the whole area if you see what I mean. I have the play.com ones on preorder, they expect them on Tuesday I think.
The Desire ones I believe are out towards the end of April :/
I've got one for the HD2 and cut to size of play, its not ba, you can sort of see its on because of my poor tuctting, touchscreen still effective, but seems more reflective.
I'm still waiting on an official with a HD2 one on my phone
I really wouldnt worry so much, the screen is glass, its pretty hard. The screens are very scratch proof. My HD2 is now 6 months old but hasnt got a mark on it, despite being dropped onto gravel more than once.
Just got the email from them saying they're in, ordered a twin pack. £24.99 isn't cheap but I want the best for my beauty...
http://www.martinfields.co.uk/GB/MFOP-HTCDesire
I've always found the MF ones to be highly overrated for their price. I've seen far better noname ones for only a few $'s.
I've seen cheap ones too but have had bad experiences with them, only one I had any good was one for my N97 so thought I'd give them a blast - failing that I'll look at the Zagg ones...HTC ones are poor, had one on my HD2 and it didn't even fit properly!!
I always used to use Martin Fields but my Hero came with HTC ones and I found those to be fine and at £5 from Play for two you cant really go wrong.... (if they ever get them in stock).
Got mine yesterday, amazing fit and you wouldn't know they are they - definitely worth a look (you get a camera lens one too)
Well when mine arrived i first thought it wasn't any better than some random £5 protector i bought off ebay for my Lumix TZ7, certainly at first glance you would tend to think that.
However if you do need to reapply it then the Martin Fields is just as effective as if you were putting it on for the very first time (no bubbles and a really smooth experience). Considering you will be using the phone everyday i do think its worth getting something that will last. Not knocking any of the other high end protectors out there, im simply saying that the Matin Fields protector is better than any i have had before.
I would stay away from the really cheap bundled ones as in the long run you will be paying out more as they aren't up to the job IMHO.
Hmmm, well I ordered a Martin Fields protector from an eBay seller and what arrived... well, I'm not convinced it's authentic. For one thing, the paper sleeve looks like cut down printer paper, and the text has typos. Additionally, having now applied the protector, it doesn't quite cover the screen - it's about 1mm short of meeting the length of it - and having cleaned it *once* there's now a scratch on it. Only small, but a scratch nonetheless on a supposedly scratch-resistant protector.
Oh, and every time I touch it - with washed hands - it smears like a bastard.
Probably should have ordered directly from Martin Fields, do you think...? Or is this the same with all of them?
Mine is slightly smaller than the screen itself but I wouldn't expect it to fit exactly as removal would be an arse - can't say I've got an issue with it smearing but if it does it seems to clean itself, which is strange but nice!
I got a 2 pack in a blister pack, each was in some oxygen-sealed plastic...all a bit OTT but work great

They do smear but i've found mine (ordered off the offical MF site) fits fine (yes slightly, but ever so slightly smaller than the screen itself) and certainly hasn't got any scratches on it, feels like it's up to the job aswell.
That's the trouble with ebay, sometimes you gamble on a cheaper price not knowing if it's the real deal or not. Going off what you are saying i'd say it's not offical, espcially if you say you have scratches on it already.
I've actually had a check, and the protector was in fact from Morpeth Mobiles, an online shop (I actually bought a USB cable from eBay). So it looks to be genuine. The packaging was a sealed hard-plastic type, and the protector was in a thin poly 'sheath' with "This is a Oxo-Biodegradable Bag" written on it. Still looks cheap though.
Meh... I'll stick with it for now.
That's the jobby (Oxo-Biodegradable Bag) - at work so couldn't remember!!
Seems to be correct, I assume you have it the right way up!!
Definitely on the right way up... I think! The side that was against the plastic backing is now against the screen, and the curved end matches the curved end of the screen.
I think I might try taking it off, washing it (or scotch taping it) and reapplying it.
I have got a little scuff on mine from when I went a bit OTT with a credit card to get a bubble out but you can only see it on an angle under light...bar that it's a very good purchase, and I got a spare incase the worst happens to one of them
Not to butt in or anything but i'm using a cut down iPhone screen protector that cost me 50 cent and it does the job perfectly. No fancy oxygen sealed bags or £25 price tags
The Martin fields protectors art ace. I used them for years, but the only thing that puts me off is the smearing. It can be very noticeable. So this time I've gone for a pouch (got a great diesel pouch from the Apple store). So far not a scratch under heavy daily use so its been perfect.
buy them from WWW.mobilefun.co.UK. they are £18 for two and free postage this weekend.

Yea ordered mine from mobilefun yesterday got it today, and i have to say the quality is perfect and it fits properly, i bought two and it was worth the money. Highly recommended.
Had a martin fields for a long time, not sure it's worth the price. Maybe a tad better, surely a lot sturdier and reusable, easier to apply... but not so much as to justify the price. 1€ screen protectors are sometimes ok.
One last thing about martin fields is that (seems to me) they attracted a lot of fingerprints, while cheaper ones are more oleophobic
Well the first time to try such expensive one out to see what difference is with the HTC ones I used in the past...

Hey, as you can see over HERE, I was having annoying issues with my Nexus one´s touch, and if you read the last post, you will be able to read it was caused by some ****ty shields I bought (I think )...
Can you please recommend my some high quality shields which can be bought on a online store or ebay-amazon?
Can you please guide me to an exact link?
thanks!

Forget what anyone tells you. You want the screen protectors available on eBay from the seller dcmugen88. I have no affiliation with the guy, but his product is ridiculously high quality, perfect fit, AND he sells a 4-5 pack for $2-3! I've bought from him three times now... twice for my N1 (the protectors last a few months at a time easy, but I wanted extras) and once for my GF's G2.
It's a static screen protector with a mild adhesive, and no wet install.... just peel and stick following the directions.
Here's the link to his eBay page and store... he's in Hong Kong though, so b/c of the Chinese New Year, he's not selling anything for another week or so.

This is the truth, i get all my screen from this guy for years now. I used the anti glare version and its bloody marvelous, dcmugen is the king of internet screen protectors, thank god too cause all his **** is like 5 dollars for a pack of 8 lol
I have used bestskinsever.com which is similar to InvisiShield. After a year or so it started to peel and get gunk it in the corners. It add's a nice grip however.

I'm not sure what's happening to dcmugen; they don't have anything for sell now. They seem to suffer some quality issue as well.
I've bought from them for 4 different phones, 3 of them were perfect cut (Omnia 2, htc Magic & Nexus One), but the last one (Desire Z) was just terrible. The screen protector size is "a lot" smaller than the screen, approx 3~4mm shorter and 1mm narrower. Then I read his feedbacks and found other people having similar issues.
Not sure if they are trying to cut corners or what. Hopefully they'll come back with better products.
In the meanwhile, can anyone recommend an alternative to dcmugen? Thanks.
Just fyi, dcmugen never sells thing this time of year..he takes a couple weeks off for Chinese new year. Wish I could recommend something else, but if you have a nexus one, this is the best there is IMO.

Invisible shield. The thing is noticeably thicker than most of the others. I've used my phone for a year and nothing has happened. It's just still there.

Those are from Zagg right? Someone told me that those are the best ones, I bought one on ebay, Ill receive it this sunday.
I like Clarivue's Crystal line, after trying others.
I've been looking around for a replacement housing for my G2, it's pretty knocked up (bought it 2nd hand), had a look at faulty used phones and official replacement housing, but both are surprisingly expensive (you wouldn't believe how much people pay for an old waterdamaged phone with an unrepairable screen and dents left right and centre.
Anyway, I've seen a full housing (minus screen/ glass) by Ecell which is (quote) "New Genuine ... For HTC Desire Z", previously it was £300ish on eBay, I've now seen it for under a tenner (still direct from Ecell).
Thing is it's black, so the use of the word "genuine" is questionable (do they mean "genuine" Ecell, or "genuine" HTC?), although in the description they say "Official HTC product". Also I've never bought anything Ecell before.
I just wanted to know if any of you guys have bought one of these replacement housings, or anything from Ecell before? Feedback would be greatly appreciated .
Best I have found is about 40$ for a full housing replacement OEM, if considered it the past but haven't been able to justify that just for aesthetics. I recently stopped using my dock and just use one of the original T-Mobile cases I fond for a few bucks (thick rubber, bulky but real nice) since then I gave up on pretty.
Never bought from ecell before so I couldn't attest to their reputation

I've seen the E-CELL product on eBay for about 10 pounds and it seems a good price for it.
However, while I'm not sure of its' quality, for that value I'd be willing to take a risk and see what's it about.
@demkantor Thanks, according to Google $40 = £25, and official HTC housing goes for around £30, which is absurd 'cause that's well over half of what I paid for my G2. I don't fancy a case, the Vision is already thick and heavy without one (can you even use the keyboard with a case on? )
@geojoking Yep, that's the one I found, previously £300 (wtf?!). Unless anyone highly cautions against Ecell I might go for it, besides as you say it is less than £10 so probably worth the risk. Anyway, if I do get it I can post a review here !
you can slide it fine, i would prefer not to use one but im running low on spare phones at the moment and i dont mind the bulk, but yes definitely bulkier!
i believe the original leaked photos of the g2/dz were of a black model or at least real dark grey. supposedly there is some mystic black version that is near impossible to get a hold of with a different bootloader then all the others, it had a different name but fell under the vision still i believe... cant remember much about it
so that would mean its possible these are genuine and being they were once 300 that may mean that ecell had them since the very beginning as when phones first come out parts like this tend to cost more than a new phone! they could have gotten the original casting and colors prerelease to the public... just a thought
either way for that price go for it, if it turns out not to fit not a huge loss, if it works great then you have one of the few(if any) black visions!
i would suggest getting some 3m adhesive tape (2mm?) as moving the digitizer will require this as well as holding down the flex. let me know how it turns out! maybe ill try it myself
I saw these a while back, almost bought it but was sceptical of the quality. Really wish I did now..
