[Q] where did visionary go? - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

now that we have a great "one click" root for the T-mobile G2. and im finally confident enough to go through and do the root for the phone. and lone and behold visionary is taken off the android market. NOT COOL! and i tried supposedly downloading the app, and drag and dropping it over to my phone. but i must have done something wrong because i can not find it in the apps. im new to this whole android rooting thing. and have had a little experiance with jailbreaking the iphone in the past. but this is a totaly different animal and i dont want to screw it up. so please guys any help? i need a how to for dummies at this point.

Update: Temporarily removed the r12 download link while a couple of people on XDA fix a non-booting issue
Info can be found on the modaco website, sorry cannot post the link since my account is not verified yet.

you can find info on it here: http://android.modaco.com/content/t...350/10-nov-r12-test-visionary-one-click-root/
since you're not using the market to install it you will need HTC Sync to install it on your phone OR put it on your SD card and use a file manager like ASTRO File Manager to browse your SD card for the .apk file and install it from there

Deleted some Google Talk files on rooted G1 and messed it up!

I want to start off by first appologizing for posting this in the wrong area (if I did), as I understand it's important to place the post in as specific as a topic as possible.
Two days ago I went in and deleted a few .apk files that had to do with GTalk, not realizing all those apps talk to each other to do certain tasks. I have not been able to download from the market OR sign into Google Talk since.
I found a forum last night where somebody had the exact same problem. Some guy posted a link to the files to put back on the phone. But since I can't download apps, I can't get a file manager to install the .apk files I downloaded onto my PC. I've tried using SDK and it is SUPER confusing. Please help as I am so frusterated I want to cry and pull my hair out.
Thanks in advance.
I am using a windows 7 laptop
Rooted G1 with CyanogenMod
adb is not difficult, if you are rooted would be more simpler.
try this

Sorry for bringing back an old thread, but I have ran into a similar problem on a US a854 milestone, I just recovered my phone from a bad experience trying to flash to 2.2, anyway i rooted again this evening and used root explorer to delete bloatware, unfortunately i uninstalled gtalk(google talk) and now I cant download from market. I need to find a way to get gtalk back. I do not have a back up and if someone can tell me how to create a nandroid back up I would be greatly appreciative, but I need to get gtalk back first
thanks in advance

UPDATE, I found some talk.apk files on this forum and got me squared away.....for the record there here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=773272

[Q] late night phone spaghetti. x10 mini pro help please!

Hi everyone,
I'm looking for some pointers on the path to 2.1 on my x10 Mini Pro, and hoping the wealth of knowledge between you all can set some things straight for me?
I'll apologise in advance if I ramble at all or don't make much sense... I've been browsing forums for hours and am suffering from mild cross-eyedness and slight brainfreeze.
The scenario;
I have an x10 mini pro, running 1.6, on Vodafone UK. Yes, the ONLY network that have not yet provided the 2.1 update for x10mp users. The phone was rooted with universal androot and also had astro file manager and titanium installed. For about three months I have had the 'starting download' hang problem in Market which I have not been able to fix. I hadn't really wasted much time on it as it was of little importance at the time however I now want to update some things and can't. Today I got annoyed and did a factory reset, hoping to resolve the problem. It didn't, and now I have a blank canvas of a phone.
I didn't back up before doing the reset as call logs and txts are of less importance that the files on my sd card, which remain untouched. I don't really have any other 'important' stuff on the phone right now.
I realised shortly after that I had a backup from December which I ran, as a last ditch attempt, this did not restore my lost applications, but did restore some user data. I noted that my root privileges and titanium were gone too
B*gger it, I thought, since I've lost all my data I may as well go for a generic NON-Vodafone installation of Android 2.1, and hopefully that will also fix the Market issue.
I've had a look on forums here and would like to run the 2.0.2.a.0.24 firmware posted by shivenjuneja.
I've downloaded this via pc, and understand I need to also install the flashtool and xrecovery, both of which I have downloaded and saved in a folder on my laptop.
Now remember, market was not an option so I've downloaded universal androot via pc too and have saved this to the root of the SD card.
With my primitive blank phone, I am unable to browse to it without a file manager, so now I need to download Astro File Manager again.
I decide to have a probably fruitless attempt of doing this via the market (because saving it on the SD card is pointless as I need it installed in order to browse to it!) and much to my amazement, it's worked!! Woohoo Market is working again! But hell, I've still lost everything on my phone so I'll perservere with my android update, thank you very much.
Ok, now while waiting for Astro to download, I remember that I've also read on the forum that the upgrade to 2.1 is likely to be stuck in a booting loop if I upgrade with user data on the phone. If I do a factory restore I will lose my file manager and root privileges that I will shortly be installing, right?
So now, at this hour, I'm wondering exactly what order I need to do everything in to get 2.1 on my phone.
To install 2.1 I need to install the flash tool and xrecovery. To install those I need root, to root I need Astro and before doing any of this I need a phone that has no user data on it.
D4mn you Vodafone.
Could anyone advise the best method to do all of the above i.e in what order to do it all, or point out if there is anything obvious I haven't accounted for.
I don't usually have a problem with this sort of thing, hopefully it will look clearer tomorrow!
Thanks in advance
K
Also, does registering your google login to use the Market count as 'user data' when you upgrade? I ask as I may need to download and install Astro again from the market, if it's still working after another reset?
A lot of view and no replies? I could really use your advice guys if anyone could oblige...
From further reading I understand that I need busybox to install xrecovery and that I also need to be on 2.1 054 as xrecovery won't install on 1.6?
Is this correct?
It sounded so simple initially to flash from 1.6 to the latest version of 2.1, whereas now I need this to install that, need to be on the later version to install the app I need to use to flash to the next version up, and have to have a bunch of other apps and tools installed in order to the able to run anything!
All I want is a rooted 2.1 with all the network and SE bundled crap removed, so I can start putting my phone back to how I bl00dy want it with the apps I choose!
I hate you Vodafone. IhateyouIhateyouIhaveyouIhateyou

[Q] two apk files removed during oneclick root

hi all. new user to xda forums.
a brief history of my foray into the upgrade and root realm:
i have an samsung epic 4g. i just updated to froyo eb13 from eclair. i used the update.zip from samsung and everything went smooth without a hitch. ( i even backed up my SD card before the update to be sure i didn't lose anything on it in case i had to reformat it.)
i decided i wanted root to backup my phone so i went with the oneclick 2.5.5 procedure. i tried it on ubuntu 10.04 using the SDK but it didn't want to work. adb wasn't an issue so it was something else...i didn't bother researching why it didn't work on linux so i jumped on my windows xp sp3 machine where the root process worked without a hitch.
during the root process two apk files are removed:
/system/app/Asphalt5_DEMO_ANMP_Samsung_D700_Sprint_ML.apk
/system/app/FreeHDGameDemos.apk
so i'm on froyo eb13, i have root and everything seems ok.
i tried searching on the apk file names here on the forums but didn't see anything which really explained things for me.
questions i'm hoping someone can explain:
1. why are these files removed? is it because there isn't enough space?
(the only thing i could find was this thread but it doesn't pertain to the oneclick root process per se: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=882567.)
2. will these files be needed in the future for other 'updates'?
since my main goal was rooting to back up my phone completely including all the apk files, it seems the root process took out two before i could get them backed up. this isn't a problem as i can get the apk files from another source.
thanks in advance for any explanations.

part of the joy of rooting is getting rid of some of the annoying apps that come stock on most phones from your carrier.
A lot of roms when installed will place the removed apk's in afolder on your SD card called "removed apk's", you can navigate to that folder with file explorer and reinstall them if you want to.
That is assuming that your new ROM did that for you.

What ROM are you running?
After more playing around and using CWM 3x, it appears this is how those 'hacks' need to function in order to install busybox. Since there isn't enough space within /system/app, something must be removed. Those two apk files are removed which in turn allows busybox (later in the install process) to exist.
I've since installed SyndicateRom Frozen Takiya 1.1.0 which removed all sprint and samsung bloatware (apk files) etc. For the two apk files I've needed (myfiles and memo), I've pushed those back using SdxAppRemover-1.5. If I need anything relating to the sprint or samsung apk files in the future to upgrade, I'll need to Odin back to stock at this point.

[Q] new sensation user, few concerns/questions.

hi i've upgraded my hd 2 to the sensation( i had windows on it). and it's a god send!
i've got a few concerns/ questions
1. biggest concern - backups.. i have a stock tmobile usa sensation.. what is the best app/ way to do a COMPLETE image (all settings/info, programs, pics, messages etc..)is there away? i use acronis for all my pc's which is just awesome. anything happens i plug in external drive, and everything is back to date.
2. rooting, i hear people talking about it... what are the benefits? if one roots there sensation do they have to start over? meaning a image would not work?
3. apps. i 've bought a bunch of apps, and installed a bunch of free ones from the phone. how do i back all these up? and save them?
4. EMAIL notifications, i have 2 email accounts, personal, and business, anyone know of way to set customized ringtones/sounds for each INDIVIDUAL email account?
5. how do i access the phone files so i can add my own notification sounds, instead of the factory ones? i'm not finding an option to look on SDcard and use my own for notifications.
Thanks for any help with these concerns.
your apps are bundled to your google account. There's a list of what you bought/downloaded already. If you wipe your phone, you can simply put them back through web.
good to know, ty!
Out of curiosity, is there away for me to get the installers as well? so i can back them all up on my server?
Anyone else have info on other questions please?
1. You can Temp. root right now( which means you will lose root if you reboot), perm root is not available yet (Hopefully soon), so temp root and use the application from the market call titanium back-up , you can back up all system, apps and personal settings to your SD card. As far as backing up pics they are already on your SD card so if you want to back those up back them up to you personal computer.
Link to Temp-root
2. Rooting benefits are removing bloatware apps installed by your service provider that you don't want, use custom Roms and root apps, increase speed and performance and battery life etc.....
Cons of rooting- you could seriously Eff up your phone if you don't know what your doing, void warranty etc....
3. See answer #1 also you can back them all up on your Google account.
4. As far as i know there is no way to set up different notification sounds for two separate email account, only one choice for notification sounds.
5.Install a file manager from the market like "Astro" to explore your sdcard, with temp root or perm root you can use "Root Explorer" and browse and change system files as well as the SD card files.
If you want to add notification sounds you can also select the personalize button on the far right side of the Rosie launcher and then select "Sound Set" and download new notification sounds.
Add ringtones check out this link....http://maketecheasier.com/add-custom-alarm-ringtone-in-android/2010/01/08
Hope this helps you with some of your questions.....
Thanks joemm
thanks for detailed info... one question on rooting if i may. Can i root without loosing everything i've done? meaning root it, download, use titanium. and know i'll be good to go.
Thanks
Yes, temp rooting will not touch any of your settings or apps. So temp root then back up with titanium backup, it will even back up each apps settings too, like a certain level your on in a game or saved search results etc...
thanks alot.. will attempt this tonight!

ES will work just the same....
No need to temp root now....perm root is out.
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA Premium App
i think this may beyond me. i tried the temp. i think it's the temp.. steps i took
downloaded rw sensation from post #1 on link you provided.
unzipped
installed htc sense on win 7 machine double clicked Run_ME_Fr3vo_ROOT
ran a bunch of commands. once done it said hit any key to continue
then i went to phone transferred superuser file to storage card /installs, installed that. then went to superuser and it says no apps.
so not sure how to uninstall the default apps.
in Es file explorer i did notice i can see the system files now.
questions. may i ask how i permanently root this thing? (all i want to do is remove stock apps, and do backups. i 'm to old for the custom rom stuff. and to be honest don't have the time to be testing/doing custom roms anymore.)
after i accomplish the permanent root, what steps are needed to remove stock apps? (special programs, commands?)
and then what steps are needed to just do a backup, and finally enjoy this phone with out worries of lockups, crashes, etc...
and thirdly what are the steps to get all apps off my htc sensation onto my main machine so i have them backed up.
Sorry for not understanding fully. ive spent 4 days setting this up to my liking, buying what i need. and just want to be able to backup everything, and not worry bout it. like i can with all my pc's via Acronis image.
thanks for any clarification.
still yet to get my sensation permanently rooted... is this the most recent guide that will work with my Tmobile USA sensation?

Grrrr. im getting to old for this stuff, (not on pc's as much anymore) when i was younger this stuff came easy to me.
i downloaded first file (revolutionary) did the steps. OF COURSE IT HANGS ON MINE)
so i went to post 2. it wasnt detailed for lamens.. so i uninstalled htc sync on phone and windows 7 32 bit. then i went to this post unrar'd files. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1161769&highlight=htc+driver and have no clue what to do next...
so now i sit, with those files on my windows 7 machine, no htc sync on phone or windows 7 machine. ideas please?
yes i read this post... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16143324&postcount=11
but they dont tell me where i should make temp folder (on phone or pc?)
who wants to make a quick $20.00?
If not enough let me know amount. i'm done with this. i just want to backup my phone in it's entirety, i want to backup my apps to HDD location of my choice on my pc. I want to do an image (just like an acronis, or norton ghost) of my sensation to HDD location of my choice on my pc. Like i use to be able to do with my SPV's, HD2's.
Pm Me. and let's get this done!
Thank you!

Broke my New phone Installing Gapps??

I just bought a Chinese phablet and was excited about the good deal I got for $250. The phone (Ginwave G503) arrived on Monday and I was disappointed to learn that the retailer did not install google apps as they do for some of their chinese phones. I figured I would just look around the internet and just install them myself. This proved to be much harder than I thought. I came across a German forum for Chinese phones and installed the google apps package that one user had uploaded to my system/app/ folder and it didn't work. I was told in the forum that It might not fork because I used some old files for Android 2.3. So they pointed me to a thread with a newer version and I deleted everything I had copied into the system/app/ folder and then replaced them with the new files. Then even less worked. My phone didn't ring anymore, sound didnt work, and the play store wouldn't even start at all anymore (it gave me a download manager stopped error or something like that). So then I figured out that those files were probably for Android 4.1 and my phone has Android 4.0.4. So then I found a package on rootzwiki for 4.0.4. I again deleted all the stuff i had put in the system/app/ folder and did a factory reset.
When I restarted the phone I was not able to install my ES File Explorer from my SD Card again. When I click on it it asked me if I want to install to phone or SD card, no matter what i select it says "X Application not installed". So I went into the chinese app store that was on the phone (called 360 followed by some chinese symbols) and actually found ES File Explorer on there. But when I tried to install it from ther, it downloaded and then gave me the same error. No matter what apps I try to install, I get this error now. What can I do? Did I break my phone?
If I did end up breaking the Rom and can't find a replacement rom for this phone online is there like a universal android version that can be installed on any phone? Would there be any way I could somehow play a new Android on my phone without having to know how to program something

At this point, it's not where he bought it from, it's what he did to it. Sorry to say OP, but you're very far up ****'s creek.
If you can't get ahold of the factory ROM and no one has made an aftermarket ROM for your device, you're going to have to learn to compile yourself. I wouldn't advise you do that, however. Based on your original post, you don't do any research before mindlessly flashing any old thing from the internet to your device.
If I'm coming off as a ****, that's because you want to call xda worthless when you clearly have your head up your ass. Someone might've tried helping you before you insulted the forums.
The only thing I can suggest now is using recovery mode to factory reset your device. This might only work if you still have your factory recovery; you never mentioned that you flashed a new one and I can't imagine you flashed anything to your phone without a custom one... But again, reading your OP it sounds like you just flash things all willy-nilly.
BTW, your device didn't have gapps because it's probably not approved by Google to access the play store. No access to play store = no gapps.

Before anyone ever uses a new device thee shall make a Rom Backup; just in case... (at least i would do this).
Anyway; i don't understand why you've put the *.apk file inside the \System\apps folder...
You should try (have tried) to install Android SDK (If you've not installed already); and install the *.apk through adb.
Check these:
http://www.xda-developers.com/xda-tv-2/pro-tip-number-4-installing-applications-using-adb-xda-tv/
[and]
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=879701
I don't believe that the operating system blocks "Google Apps / Play Store". Either way i'm not going to say that it is impossible. But it doesn't make much sense.
But like "rockingondrums" said; If your device doesn't have have "gapps"; it's probably because it's not approved by Google to access the play store.
No access to Play Store = No "gapps"...
(Never seen that happening though)
Also you didn't need to root your device for that. "Play Store" doesn't require Root Permissions...
In order to help you (and help yourself up); I've done research for you (just because i understand your situation).
1st of all you shouldn't insult XDA Forum. This Forum has loads of information scattered around. Just dig like everyone else... There's probably the info you need. Yes it may take hours, day or months if you have no idea of what you're messing with. If the info is there, just don't expect people to do the research for you...
But, XDA is far from being "worthless". I've lost the count of how many times it helped me; and what i've learned is priceless. (And i still don't know everything i want to know ^^)
2nd; [Get your Device Working]
If you haven't messed up much... (Like flashing a wrong Rom)
Use "Recovery Mode" to "Factory Reset" your device.
I'm not sure if the method i'm about to show, works for every device or for your device; but it's a good example.
On my device i would do:
- Turn off the device;
- Press and hold in the following order: Camera Button; Then Volume - and then Power Button; let it vibrate 3 times; and then release the buttons.
In other words; this will "Reinstall / Reset" your system. You'll see in your screen if it works. Just dont turn off your device in any way while it's executing that operation.
Note: It may be different on your device. If it is... You have to search for a different method that will work for you.
Search this forum, Google, or Ginwave Website (if it has one...)
After this; i recommend you to do some search and learn on how to backup & restore your device.
Search XDA Forum. Grab some examples, compare the info you've got; then backup that device.
3rd; If you've flashed a wrong Rom; then you really have to compile your own, as i also couldn't find a Stock or Custom Rom for your device.
Note: If you (ever) find a Rom for your device; remember that it has to be A ROM FOR YOUR DEVICE! AND NOT SOME OTHER. Otherwise you'll probably end with a dead device...
And that would be sad and wasted money.
Here's a good example on how to flash a Rom and a good place to start with:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Flashing_Guide_-_Android
Do some more reasearch; and now don't ever say that XDA is worthless.
P.S - Experienced People aren't here every day and every hour just for you... Sometimes you've got to wait and pray for a god answer (lol - so true...).
I hope this helps solving your problem.
Best Regards;
