I played around with various call block / night clocks and didn't find anything to do exactly what I wanted so I wrote CallShield. You can download the Lite version that allows you to specify three blocked callers and three important callers, and purchase an unlock license for unlimited for $2.99.
It couples a ring overrider for important calls, a call blocker for calls with blocked callerid or in a block list, and a bedside clock that mutes the phone but allows important callers and texts through. Great for IT staff on call who don't want to be disturbed by anyone but work.
From the description:
Ever wished you could turn off your ringer but still let your loved ones reach you? That's what CallShield does. Maintain a list of "Important" or "Blocked" callers and CallShield will manage your ringer for you.
When your ringer is in vibrate or silent mode and an important person calls or sends you a text it will automatically activate the ringer to notify you of the event, and then revert back to the mode it was previously.
Want any of your friends to be able to text you important things without adding them all to the important list? Just tell them to add an exclamation mark to the text (that's the default.) You can customize the special code to whatever you want and optionally allow those text messages to override your ringer and ring through.
In addition, CallShield includes a bedside clock with sleep mode. Activate sleep mode and your ringer is silenced, but you can optionally allow important calls and texts to override it. This feature is great for anyone who is on call at night but doesn't want bothered by anyone else.
If you place CallShield in sleep mode, as soon as you answer an important call or exit the screen by touch it automatically disables sleep mode so you can't accidentally go through the day with your ringer off.

I've just tried your app and it's perfect for me (i9070 running CM10.2).
I tried many apps (on android < 4.3) for missed sms (Missed calls message flasher, SMS Popup...), but yours is running best.
I'm not using all the options, just a popup (sms+calls) + reminder.

I've noticed 2 minor issues, but they could be rom-specific (CM10.2)...
1. When a msg arrives while the phone is locked, a default notification message is heard but not the whole 2 seconds (it's the duration of the sound itself), approx the last second of it. Every next reminder sound with the same tone is heard ok.
2. When I activate popup screen and new msg arrives, if I reply through popup actions everything is OK, except - this sent msg is not in my default mesagging app.

1. It's strange, it must play whole sound.
2. Sent messages are saved in default android database (content://sms), it's must be some different things in your phone

I just want to report that your app works great in cm11 on moto g.
Could you please add more timing details for reminder. Not to be 1 minute, but 15 seconds in the first 1 min, then 60 sec in the first 15 min, then 300 sec in 60 minites... or to be configurabile?

CONTEXT: My parents have always had problems with their MIUI xiaomi phones (redmi note 9, redmi 5+ and note 4x) where Do not disturb (dnd) set up as "alow incoming calls - from anyone" doesn't work at all.
MY QUESTION:
Does the "allow incoming calls - from anyone" dnd option block notification sounds and make calls from anyone ring?
This function is vital to me as I often use DND to silence my phone but let calls through in case something important happens.

When you press the volume rocker, it gives you two options, silence and do not disturb, I always have the phone on silence and it obviously doesn't sound when you get calls or anything like that, I'm not sure if the do not disturb option is actually for calls.
If you press that option it tells you ''sounds and vibrations are disabled'' but if you press on the silence option it specifies ''calls and notifications are silence''
I use DND on a regular basis at work/sleep to filter my calls and make sure that only my girlfriend, certain friends and family can call me and no one else. Meaning only their calls will ring out loud while all other people's calls just ring silently.

Sorry for not being clear enough, let me rephrase my question:
Does the "allow incoming calls - from anyone" option actually work while blocking all message notifications?
This option didn't work in none of the xiaomi phones I mentioned because it either didn't ring or it didn't block message sounds so the workaround was doing exactly what you did with your gf but with all my contacts instead.
Okay I recreated the scenario and you seem to be right. I wasn't able to check the calls part but I was definitely able to check that when the DND is set to
Allow Incoming Calls - Anyone
The notifications make a sound.
I'm assuming what you are looking for is that only calls should be making sounds while on DND and not anything else like SMS / WhatsApp / etc.

Thanks for the confirmation. From what I see, this happens in every single MIUI phone out there.
I'm shocked that it's still not fixed after so many years of sending feedback through the feedback app.

- Disabling the system dialer and installing another (Google Phone)

- All permissions granted
- Proven "Do not disturb" mode
The whole problem arose after the OSS11 Stable EU update
