[THEME] Xdre4m (UPDATE:11/11/10 version 0.4)(2.1 only) - XPERIA X10 Themes and Apps

UPDATE: NEW FRAMEWORK-RES.APK, NAME CHANGED TO Xdre4m, BOOTANIMATON ADDED, INSTALLER UPDATED
HEY,
this is my first "theme" and it's not finished now!
first i wanted to help thefunkaygibbon with his theme, but i was a little bit faster then him... ^^
MAKE SURE YOUR PHONE IS ROOTED AND HAS BUSYBOX&SUPERUSER!!
i attached a .sh installer (for phone and PC)
how to use the .sh installer:
copy the "installer.sh" to the root of your sdcard, and all apps into /sdcard/download
then open a terminal emulator on your phone (better term is a good one) and type:
su
sh /sdcard/installer.sh
for PC: open CMD (Windows)
type this:
cd /sdk/tools (or somewhere else but make sure there is ADB in it)
adb shell
su
sh /sdcard/installer.sh
.apk's in 2nd post!!
hope you like it!
Also a big thanks go to thefunkaygibbon for the inspiration!
Take a look at his theme!
---------------------------------------
here are some screenies:

UPDATE:
NEW FRAMEWORK
you have to unzip the .zip and put the .sh to the root of your sdcard!
ALL APPS MUST BE PLACED IN /sdcard/download
the maxim filesize is 8MB each attachment so i put the framework-res.apk in a .rar "folder"
PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU LIKE IT!

Nice. Seems like we're all getting started at it now 2.1 is here, can't think of a name for you though.

The answer is in the very first post... but yes, it does

Oh I must have overlooked that. Is it hard and complicated to root the phone? What are the benefits?

Oops, I had my phone bricked by the first method (installing from Terminal on phone).
My X10i with nordic isn't coming past the Sony Ericsson boot screen.
Could anyone give me some directions sorting this problem?
Cheers. (I still believe this has nothing to do with this skin)

Reflash it with SEUS and try again
Or type this in your terminal
Su
Mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock2 /system
dd if=/sdcard/download/framework-res.apk of=/system/framework/framework-res.apk
Sent from my X10i using XDA App

The SEUS seems to be flashing, will let know if this solves it. I'll give the framework another go. (I want it!! )
Update:
Status: debricked
Just about to root it now then will try this.

What file is the background to the slide down tray? I had a look but could not find (you made it transparent, I want to for my theme)
Also, the timescape's update icons still have a blue background (I only update mine manually, and rarely do I use timescape)
Once again, nice work.

Hm it went wrong again. I posted a log file of running the installer.sh

Installing Maps w/ Navigation

Thanks to FollowingInsanity for editing the build.prop file to get it working corectly, and thanks to Maxisma for the Droid dump. Thanks to everyone else who pitched in on this whole thing. Really all I did was realize the exact line that needed to be changed....everyone else did the rest
Here are instructions on how I got the new maps w/ Navigation to work via adb. I'm running the official rooted 1.6 build, but this should work for anyone.
(if you don't know how you use adb, go to the here
Next, you need to uninstall the old maps.apk file and here's how I personally did it since you can't just go to "uninstall" from the Application Settings(these instructions start already in the ADB shell):
# mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
# cd system
# cd app
# rm xxxxxxx (this is whatever your maps.apk is titled. sometimes is just maps.apk, but it could also be com.android.google.maps.apk or somethin like that)
# exit
Click to collapse
Now you've uninstalled the google maps. You can then do these next steps outside of adb.(for instructions purposes i'm using my own Android location):
C:\android\tools> adb pull /system/build.prop C:\Android
C:\android\tools> adb pull /system/build.sapphire.prop C:\Android
The 2nd may not be may be build.trout.prop or something to that effect...build.xxxx.prop
Click to collapse
Next, change those 2 file names on your PC from build.prop to build-backup.prop and build.xxxx-backup.prop(if you have one) so that you don't lose those files in case anything stupid happens in the mean time lol.
Make a 2nd copy of build.xxxx-backup.prop and rename it is build.xxxx.prop. So now you should have a build.xxxx.prop AND a build.xxxx-backup.prop
Now you'll need the build.prop file to use
build.prop
(IF you are running a sapphire build, you can also use the build.sapphire.prop file located there and skip down to "re-loading prop files")
I saved that file to the same location that I saved my original files.
open build.xxxx.prop in notepad. look for where it says:
ro.build.description=kila-user 1.6 DRC83 14721 ota-rel-keys,release-keys
ro.build.fingerprint=xxxxxxxxxx:user/ota-rel-keys,release-keys
# end build properties
Click to collapse
you'll need to delete the line that says ro.build.fingerprint=xxxxxxxxxx:user/ota-rel-keys,release-keys but DO NOT delete the line that says #end build properties
replace the line you deleted with the following:
ro.build.fingerprint=verizon/voles/sholes/sholes:2.0/ESD20/17572:user/ota-rel-keys,release-keys
Reloading Prop Files
next, back in your command line window do the following:
c:\android\tools> adb push c:\android\build.prop /system/
c:\android\tools> adb push c:\android\build.xxxx.prop /system/
Click to collapse
then restart your phone
while the phone is restarting, go back and rename your build.prop and build.xxxx.prop files to build-update.prop and build.xxxx-update.prop, then change your build-backup.prop and build.xxxx-backup.prop to build.prop and build.xxxx.prop
After it restarts you'll want to locate your maps.apk file(the new one) and go back into your command line and type:
c:\android\tools> adb shell
# mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
# exit
c:\android\tools> adb install c:\android\maps.apk
(install crap...if it doesn't install correctly then don't do whats below)
Click to collapse
Go check your google maps, type in two locations and click "go" and on the next screen you should see a button that says "Navigate"
go back to your command line screen and type:
Sorry if this is confusing, anyone who could make it more simple, please feel free to give it a try, but this is the best I could offer so people wouldn't have to go looking though the whole think tank thread to get everything they need to get it working
IF THE INSTALL GAVE YOU AND INVALID_UPGRADE ERROR THEN TRY THIS:
(again these instructions are using my own android sdk location, replace the
c:\android\tools with YOUR sdk location
from the command line type the following:
c:\android\tools> adb shell
# mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
# exit
c:\android\tools> adb pull /data/system/packages.xml c:\android\
Click to collapse
BACK UP THIS FILE BEFORE EDITING IT
Once that's done, open that xml file in a text editor hit ctrl+f and search for maps, the first one will probably say auth.sitemaps, ignore that, keep searching untile you get to something to the effect of com.android.google.maps.apk or something like that. when you see that, you'll want to delete everything from "<packagename=" to "</package>" for the google maps app. BE VERY CAREFUL!!!! you don't want to accidentally delete something else, thus the reason for the back up.
after you've done that, go back to your command prompt and type:
c:\android\tools> adb push c:\android\ /data/system/packages.xml
c:\android\tools> adb install c:\android\maps.apk
Click to collapse
it should then install perfectly fine. thats what I had to do to get it to work for me
I love you guys! will try this when I get home from work!
it does not appear to be 100% working....yet...

You might have to try editing your packages.xml file even though it didn't give you an install error. Also, if you push your original build.prop's back, you lose navigation after a few hours. I guess the quick solution to that would be to keep the new build.prop's, but I'm not sure what the problems that might or might not create for other apps.
I'm using CM-4.2.3.1 with the edited build.prop and the build.sapphire.prop files.

A quick shortcut is to drop the device from this command. As you're re-mounting, the kernel knows the device name. Like this:

Wow dude your the bomb, I did it a different way but it worked perfect. I just took a dount rom extracted it, deleted the maps.apk, then I took the droid dump maps app and put it into the donut rom. Then I made the changes to the build.trout.prop so that it recognized the g1 as the verizon phone, used your downloadable build.prop, of course I just deleted the original build.prop in the donut build, I resigned the donut rom, flashed it like it was brand new, and bingo everything worked perfectly. Wow good job dude. I would upload my rom but I dont want to get into any trouble.
I am using "AOSP1.6_r1.4+ADP DRD20 ROM". Maps on here is called "GoogleMaps.apk". I also do not have just a build.prop. I have a build.sapphire.prop and build.trout.prop. I modified both and replaced according to the first post. When I rebooted, GoogleMaps.apk was reinstalled, so I had to uninstall it again.
I did get the error described in post #8, but was able to get around it with the help of post #10.
But for some reason my network is completely down so I can't do nothing. Wifi and Cellular network. Hmmmm.
Edit: Replacing the files I backed up with the originals, brought my networks back.

I had been messing about with a script to pull apks off my phone, zipalign them and then push them back, but then I saw wesgarner's CM build with a binary and script for use on your phone. I don't really want to mess round with flashing a ROM just for that though, so I've ripped them out and uploaded them below. Another reason is I want to run this manually (with GScript) rather than on boot (as it does in wesgarner's ROM).
I take no credit for this, the binary and script were both taken from wesgarner's CM buiild.
To "install" this, just adb push the two files in the zip below onto your phone with:
Code:
adb shell mount -o remount,rw /system
adb push zipalign /system/bin
adb push zipalign_apks /system/sd/zipalign_apks.sh
adb shell chmod 755 /system/bin/zipalign /system/sd/zipalign_apks.sh
adb shell mount -o remount,ro /system
Then anytime you want to run the script just do:
Code:
adb shell sh /system/sd/zipalign_apks.sh
Or in terminal:
Code:
su
sh /system/sd/zipalign_apks.sh
Has been tested on CM 4.2.7.1

APKs (as you probably already know) are just zip files. zipalign simply aligns the APK on 4-byte boundaries which Android is more efficient wrt memory access.
You can read more from Jean-Baptiste Queru at http://android-developers.blogspot.com/2009/09/zipalign-easy-optimization.html

Since the 1.6 SDK was released, the ADT does this automatically on APK export. Therefore any app which has been updated since ~September (and was developed using the ADT Eclipse plugin) will be zipalign'd. I was more surprised that 12 out of the 43 apps on my phone weren't aligned!

that's awesome .. thanks for the link .. i hadn't read about that
Thanks much for this!
Here is a simple gscript to install zipalign after a wipe or new build flash.
You must first create directory /sdcard/zipalign and place zipalign from the zip in the OP there. Path to the file should now be /sdcard/zipalign/zipalign.
Place this script in your gscript folder (after removing .txt from the name) and load it in gscript with su permissions.
I also find it easier to run the script in the zip from the OP in Gscript as well. Instead of placing it in /system/sd run this (assumes zipalign_apks.sh is at root of C:\)
Code:
adb remount
adb push C:\zipalign_apks.sh /sdcard/gscript/zipalign_apks.sh
Then just load it into Gsrcipt with su permissions as with the other script.
Easiest of all may just be to use the commands within Lucid's script. But, I'm comfortable with Gscript, and I can make it 2 clicks away.
EDIT: First execution, you may want to run the original way, because guess what? Gscript isn't zipaligned. But it worked fine just the same.
worked great thanks.
Thanks. I didn't want to flash whole ROM to zipalign apps, so script was very handy.
Actually I've zipaligned only 2 apps, one of them was everybody loved Linda

I put a quick explanation of my script on my ROM page: here ya go (rough explanation)
Zip Align reduces the amount of RAM used during processing running for a major speed increase in dex-opt and running the apps, along with the RAM hack and a CC (or your userinit) boots speeds incredibly and better usability of apps (boot and system) in Android: http://developer.android.com/guide/d.../zipalign.html
Most developers have not used this yet (CM does ZipAlign his apps), but this does for the system apps provided from the now old Google Apps

it will really, it doesn't detect the diff
Also, SDK4 didn't really include an enforced ZipAlign like SDK5 (eclair) does
Plus I built the ZipAlign from source from eclair - so this script may not update them all perfectly

can someone make a script for windows or a bat file that can zipalign a batch of apks? I am not that ofay with line commands and when i create a new theme (which i often do), i then have to go and zipalign every single apk i have altered 1 at a time..... i do:

No it should be fine, the animation just moves across in portrait mode, not landscape like it would on the Xoom. No distortion

This looks AMAZING!! No squishiness or anything! I could seriously watch that all day (as I dream of owning a XOOM)...
How come it took 8 months for someone to mention that I could just replace the bootanimation.zip with Root Explorer?! lol... My laptop died, so I'm stuck with my work machine which I can't install ANYTHING on, let alone run ADB without some Regional IT bastard scanning my machine, looking for a reason to report misuse of a company asset to save his/her own ass... I've been replacing the zip before flashing all this time, and my designated boot was the X (attached, since it's still so pretty...).
Thank you SOOO much! I've themed my EVO to the best of my ability to match the HoneyComb blue, and this is THE perfect addition!
Gonna' go wipe my cache, and dalvik so the boot lasts longer...
Loving it! Goes great with my HC theme on my MIUI ROM!

How exactly do I use the "adb push" method? Is this something I can do in the terminal emulator? If so, how exactly do I do it?
Thanks
adb method
reboot to recovery and do this
go to the mounts-storage in the recovery
mount system
type in your computer
./adb push bootanimation.zip /system/media/bootanimation.zip
now to do it through the terminal I believe its something like this
su
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system <- there is a space between 4 /system
make sure you know where the bootanimation is located. if in downloads
then do
cp /sdcard/download/bootanimation.zip /system/media/bootanimation.zip
if it is on the root of the sdcard then do
cp /sdcard/bootanimation.zip /system/media/bootanimation.zip
( If you did not rename the .zip to bootanimation.zip then change the cp to mv )
and we done.
enjoy and sorry about the late response I was really busy.
Thanks for this. I was able to download it and use Root Explorer to get it going. Rebooted my phone a couples times just to watch the animation.
Dude, this is really really cool! Thanks OP!

Dude, I'm sorry but I can't seem to figure this out... I've got my EVO hooked up to my laptop running Ubuntu...
I have the USB storage on so I can see it on my desktop...
I'm typing exactly the "mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system" and it gives me a statement saying "system" does not exist.
Any thougths... That is EXACTLY what I'm suppose to be putting into terminal right? There is no part where I'm suppose to put in my own device name or location?
I'm soo bad with this terminal stuff...
Flashable Zip
Just thought I'd throw this out here. I flashed this through Zip and it works well on my 003 Evo. Absolutely beautiful.
Should be just over 5 Mb once downloaded.

Samsung sidekick 4G

Has anyone begun working on rooting and customizing roms yet? I know the device isn't out for a week or so but I would figure I would ask. My vibrant I so much better rooted and I wanted the same experience on this sidekick.

Oh really? Cool. So far all I've used is one-click root for the Samsung Epic.... is this similar? I'll check it out, thanks!
Has anyone tried using SuperOneClick yet?? I will probably try in a bit and post back with my results..
Ok... well I didn't try SuperOneClick, but I did root it via the rageagainstthecage exploit...
Want to help me do the exploit on my SK4G to root it man ?
Give me instructions ?!
I got it working on mine too. The basic steps were
1) enable debug USB mode on your phone
2) install Samsung drivers for the phone - right now Samsung's site seems to not have a choice for the Sidekick 4G's model (SGH-T839), but I grabbed the drivers for the Vibrant (at www .samsung.com/us/support/downloads/SGH-T959ZKDTMB) and they worked.
3) get adb shell working on your PC (Google it)
4) download the rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin and Superuser packages from the links in this page: wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=HTC_Hero_%28CDMA%29:_Full_Update_Guide (be sure to unzip the files into the directory where your adb.exe program is unless you've put it in your path)
5) reboot your phone and plug it in
6) adb push rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin /data/local/tmp
7) adb shell
8) cd /data/local/tmp
9) chmod 755 rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin
10) ./rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin
11) wait until you get booted back out to your DOS command prompt
12) adb kill-server
13) adb start-server
14) adb shell
15) you should now be at a # prompt. The first few times I tried, I wasn't - I was at $. Doing this from a fresh boot seemed to be the trick. Reboot your phone and try again if you're getting a $.
16) mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/stl9 /system
17) exit
18) adb push su /system/xbin
19) adb shell chmod 4755 /system/xbin/su
20) adb push Superuser.apk /system/app
21) adb shell mount -o remount,ro /dev/block/stl9 /system
22) exit
23) reboot the phone then run an app that requests root, such as Root Explorer, to verify
(p.s. sorry for having to mangle the URL's above, XDA won't let me include links since I haven't posted 8 times yet)

Just to note, on step 16 and 21... it is /dev/block/stl9 rather than st19
Also, after step 20, I had to run the following commands for the superuser application to grant root privledges to applications..
adb shell echo "root::0:0:root:/data/local:/system/bin/sh" > /etc/passwd
adb shell echo "root::0:" > /etc/group
Awesome to see it being rooted so fast.
I'm really interesting in getting this phone but I'm not in the US. Does anyone know if the phone will work outside US?

Dang, good catch, thanks. That's what I get for not copying and pasting from my terminal window...stupid, since I was just chastising two people at work for making the same mistake yesterday. I've edited the original post to prevent problems for people who might start before reading the entire thread.
Interesting about having to create a passwd and group file...I've only run a few root apps so far, but they've worked without me doing this. I wonder if it's app-specific.
Now to start removing some of the damn bloatware this thing comes with!
19) adb shell chmod 4755 /system/xbin/su
i get stuck on there it says unable to chmod no such file or directory . there's SU in my android-sdk/tools
i'm so glad this thing got rooted. i used to be a scene kid with a kick. i dont have this phone, i doubt i'm going to get this phone considering the sensation is droppin soon.... but for nostalgia purposes, i'm glad it got rooted. now you can really hack it!!!
not like the old ones!!
Good looking out...I rooted mine earlier today. What version of Clockworkmod Recovery are you all using?

Double-check your step 18...that's the step that copies the su file from your computer onto the phone. I forget the exact output format, but it shows you a Kb/second number of how fast the file transfer went when it finishes successfully.

I'm not brave enough to try putting the ClockworkMod for one of the Samsung devices on the list onto mine, for fear of bricking it. Don't know enough about that works as far as hardware differences go.
I have removed the APK's listed below from /system/app with no apparent ill-effects. Not that YOU should remove them necessarily - just that they're things I don't have a need for:
AccountAndSync.apk
AmazonMp3.apk
AppPack.apk
DriveSmart.apk
DriveSmartHelper.apk
install_flash_player.apk
LiveWallpapers.apk
LiveWallpapersPicker.apk
Memo.apk
MiniDiary.apk
MobileBackup.apk
MyFiles.apk
PhoneSetupWizard.apk
Twitter-2.0.1-121.apk
vvm-signed.apk
Though there must be something I don't fully understand, because even after a reboot, Amazon MP3 and AppPack are still on my phone, and they still work.
FYI, don't remove Settings.apk - I got stuck in a loop where the launcher kept crashing then reloading itself (thank goodness I was able to put it back in place with adb).

UPDATE - experienced only please - perm temp root (til reboot) w/data speed increases

THanks to TEAMWIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
UPDATE to UPDATE- advanced users only that can understand my instructions please. I tried to make it newb friendly but this takes alot more time than I ever imagined ... (PROPS to ALL DEVS and POSTERS taking the time to share with us that which they spent hours testing!!!!)
so,
also download build.prop
place it in /data/bin
chown to root.root
chmod to 644
you only have to do this once, of course
Now reboot and run (updated and attached here at same time as the build.prop; so if you don't have the build.prop, you need to redownload daddy'stemproot.bat s it has been updated) daddy'stemproot.bat from wherever you downloaded it to.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7393616/build.prop
good luck!
UPDATE:
Just wanted to upload what I have been using since the original instructions are out of date.
have tested the following Windows script for 2 days without rebooting and retain full functionality on all root apps.
Instructions:
instead of doing copy/paste, once you have put fre3vo,su,busybox,and sqlite3 into /data/bin and set permisions/ownership, as per original instructions below,
if you have been using another script, just move everything to /data/bin and set permissions/ownership as per below;
and after every reboot, (or after doing the set-up for the first time users)
simply run this script:
(personally, after plugging my phone into my PC, and opening a command prompt, I always do "adb reboot"
then wait until the soft keys at bottom of screen light up (this means the phone is finishing all start up processes but for all extents and purposes the phone has booted) and then double click the file below. the command prompt will open and close itself, when closed, you are good to go until reboot)
Download and save this .bat to anywhere you want and run from anywhere you wish(mine is on my desktop for easy access):
LATEST VERSION Directly below:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7393616/daddy%27stemproot.bat
ORIGINAL Instructions:
Just wanted to give back so I will share how I have been getting functional su for on phone term apk and visible /data on root explorer and Superuser prompts for every root app (just because you allow at the prompt and Superuser allows an apk, doesn't mean it will alwasy work; if you open SetCpu more then once a boot it stops working. Bloatware Remover, though given root priveledges, doesn't work, I think becasue when trying to mount system, the apk uses the wrong partition in its script. etc.)
anyways
first get fre3vo, then the latest versions of su, busybox, sqlite3.
via shell from PC:
cd (directory where your 4 files are located)
push above files to /data/local/tmp (follow instructions in other threads)
get temp root via fre3vo
now with temp root do :
adb remount
adb shell mount -oremount,suid /dev/block/mmcblk0p23 /data
adb shell mkdir /data/bin
adb shell chown root.shell /data/bin
adb shell chmod 755 /data/bin
adb push (all 4 files, one at a time, to /data/bin)
adb shell chown root.shell /data/bin/su
adb shell chown root.shell /data/bin/busybox
adb shell chown root.shell /data/bin/sqlite3
adb shell chmod 6555 /data/bin/su
adb shell chmod 4555 /data/bin/busybox
adb shell chmod 755 /data/bin/sqlite3
adb shell chmod 755 /data/bin/fre3vo
now, set up is done, you don't have to do any of that again (unless you mesed up of course)
copy and paste the following lines into shell on PC and viola!
adb shell /data/bin/fre3vo
adb wait-for-device
adb remount
adb shell mount -o remount,suid /dev/block/mmcblk0p23 /data
adb shell ln -s /data/bin/su /system/xbin/su
adb shell ln -s /system/xbin/su /system/bin/su
adb shell ln -s /data/bin/busybox /system/xbin/busybox
adb shell ln -s /data/bin/sqlite /system/xbin/sqlite
adb shell mkdir /system/xbin/bb
adb shell /data/bin/busybox install /system/xbin/busybox /system/xbin/bb/
adb shell sync
So, everytime you reboot,
open a shell on your PC and copy and paste, and then you are free to live with root, until you reboot, and of course with limitations; but I personally can live with this until Fre3dom is complete.
Take your time boys(TEAMWIN) we love you!!!!
hope this helps somebody. I don't have much bandwith to check back to answer questions, but I am confident if any arise, that the community will step up as always. enjoy your root apps

Thanks Daddyroot ! the commands have really worked for me. Now I have a sensation with Temp root till I restart. All other scripts in the forum was not helping me.
Best solution I found so far. Not losing root till reboot anymore.
A++ would install again
Really glad to be able to give back to the community.
I wish I had more time when I posted this to check back and reply but I'm a single parent and time is short. After playing for a couple hours and finally seeing and being able to edit the /data folder, I knew it would be with it to make the time if I could help just one person to not waste the time figuring out what I could share. Nothing quite like the feeling you get on an unrooted phone when you first see the superuser prompt to allow or deny!!!
Thank you all who hit the thanks button!
And God bless TEAMWIN and (insert your favorite dev here)!!!
I will try to check back at least once a day...
