Great Implementation of Copy & Paste - myTouch 4G General

I don't know if you guys have noticed but the copy & paste system on the mytouch 4g is amazing. It is similar to the iphone's way of doing it and works very well; you just long press on the browser page and it brings up a box where you select the text (you have to hit select text option on some apps like messaging). For what I've seen, it is much easier than other android phones where you have to drag across the text you want.

Agree it is excellent. Much better than the Vibrant. I think it HTC that gets the credit for this.

Standard Google Apps

Well, I'm liking the MT4G so far. One of the few things I don't like: T-Mo has replaced a lot of the stock 2.2 applications that I quite liked. For example, the stock 'Gallery' app.
I didn't see it on the market (which isn't the easiest thing to navigate in the first place). Is there any way (besides rooting and so forth) to get this stock app onto this phone, in place of the Gallery app they included? Can it just be side-loaded?
+1
Same thing I am looking for!

i think you just need to send it to your phone and download it from the link
What do you mean?
I found the standard gallery app on the android central forum by searching google. I don't think I can attach it here though. Works great.

pick whichever google app you want from the list (ex: google goggles). click learn more and from there click the 'send goggles to android phone' type in your number and youll get a text with the link to download it. worked with me.
I always found that to crash on my G2.... I like this one

Browser Smooth Rotations

Ok, so I noticed this a couple of days ago and thought I would share it, sorry if its already been posted
Instructions
-Open browser
-Type 'about:debug' into the url bar
-Press menu
-Press settings
-Scroll all the way to the bottom
-About 5th from the bottom you will see 'smooth rotations'
-Press the tick
-Now go into a web page and turn your phone sideways, the page should wobble a bit
Done I think its a nice addition to the browser

Good find worked on my mytouch4g.

guys how is the browsing experience...someone said it is not as smooth as it should be... the same performance as a desire hd !
Nice Find!
Thats a very nice find. How did you work that out!? Not as smooth as it should be but no doubt its just a feature in development hence the trick to enabling it... possibly a work in progress? Is there any way of enabling smoother rotations for main screens as well?
that would definitely be nice !!!!!!
Working on DesireHD for sure. Nice finding

Anybody trying the new android market?

Seems pretty cool. But very slow... Takes forces to load and download. Anyone else having problems?
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
I just installed about half hour ago and I have to say it's fantastic! Google is on UI TEAR right now #winning.
I really like how they condensed the app list into two columns and made each smaller. It now shows 14 apps per page on my Sensation where the old Market only showed like 5 or 6. Makes scrolling through content much faster.
I also really like the additions of the "Top Grossing", "Top New Paid", "Top New Free", and "Trending" categories. Will make app discovery much more useful!
My only gripe is that it doesn't show the file size for an app UNTIL you start downloading. This is info that needs to stay up front!
I agree with just about everything you said. They did great with the new market. So you are not. Having the same speed issues as me?

Oops I left that part out. It IS a lil slow compared to the old market, little lag but nothing too crazy. I think mostly b/c there is much more info on each page now and the way it loads the thumbnails/images, even though they are smaller. I'm sure they will iron it out quickly though
Google did an amazing job.
It looks so clean and beautiful, everything is organized better, etc. And I'm not having the slow loads or anything that you are having. It's actually faster. With the old market you would click download and it would take a second or 2 to start, but on this new market I click download and it's literally instant. I love it.
It actually looks like a market that should be on a high end OS/phone, unlike the old market.
Slow for me as well. It'll take a while to get used to the new format, but so far so good.
Has anyobdy tried a movie yet? Quality?
Also the new widget... All I get is an icon with black. And grey backround. Same for everybody else?

Where did you download from? I downloaded from the link on the androidcentral.com article.
Working well for me. A little slow on first use then it clears right up.

just trying it out too -- its pretty slick. The front page is a little busy perhaps, but overall its great.
I'm liking it as well.
Installed it earlier.. Love it!!
new market is slick as hell. I love it. I don't really notice too much of a lag compared to the old market, which I hated in the first place especially in landscape mode. The new one looks more sophisticated.
fyi, in case nobody caught on, when you hit the menu button and go into setting while in the market, you can deselect "recieve interest based ads". I don't know if that had anything to do with it but I really don't have any lag. Also, I pulled the battery right after I installed it so some of you guys might wanna try that too.

Favorite HOX features.

This is a thread to list some cool things you like about the phone. Maybe point out a few things that other people didn't know yet.
For me I would have to say that the keyboard is awesome. Also the fact that it already has a printer option built in. Voice recognition on this phone is awesome. And of course face recognition is great too.
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
I've been a Swype user since the Nexus One, but I have to say that the Trace feature on the HTC keyboard is impressive. It's noticeably quicker to render words after swyping/tracing. Only downside I've noticed is you can't place the cursor on previous words and choose alternate suggestions. Unless I'm missing an option for this.
Ha. And I though it was an improved swype this whole time
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
Interesting comment about the keyboard. I'll be receiving my HOX today but most reviews say the HTC keyboard is ****. Seeing the entire row of arrows on the bottom leads me to agree (but then again, I haven't used it yet). How does it compare to the stock ICS keyboard? I don't like Swype so I'm sure I won't ever use that feature.

About that. I tried using the face detect to lock my screen and at first i thought to myself, man does this work well.
Then for fun I had my dad look at the camera and guess what, the phone unlocked itself for him too. Now I know we look somewhat alike, but not that close.
Long story short, I wouldn't trust that feature..

My favorite feature is definitely the screen! I can't keep my eyes off of it. I do not like the HTC Sense keyboard and for those of you that also do not like it you can go to the Play Store and download the stock ICS keyboard and it works great on the One X. It is much more similar to the iPhone keyboard that I am used to and is spaced further apart than stock sense keyboard. Also, you get more screen room for viewing while texting or writing messages if you use the stock ICS keyboard.

It works for pictures of you as well... It can't distinguish depth.
Well they're working on a modified face unlock that requires you to blink so picture would be useless.

The apps button on the lower right is the coolest so far for me. Swipe up to close apps and you can open any recent apps...
It takes the only good feature of the Blackburry playbook and adds it to Android. Sorry if this is old for HTC... first one for me.

I rather enjoy the was the app drawer is done on this phone. Now that said this is both my first HTC and my first ICS phone, so this may be nothing special
Dial a number with the keypad in your hand... phone vibrates when they pick up if you don't have it on your ear.

I personally hate this feature. A dedicated button? I liked long press home. Now I don't have a quick way to search plus I haven't found a way to assign a long press action to any of them.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using xda premium
Once we have root it should be long press home button for recent apps, multitask button as menu button, and long press multitask for search. I miss voice search lol it was easier on an inspire

From what I can tell, by swiping the recent application does not close the application. I have opened several apps and then hit the home button then the recent applications button and swiped them... then opened up the apps again and they are right back where I left them. I think it only deletes the recent app bookmark and not closes the app itself.

How to make HTC Calendar show the actual month/day of the week

Not sure if this belongs in Themes and Apps, my apologies if it does. Anyways, if you're like me, then you like the stock htc calendar app, but find it incredibly annoying that it doesn't show the actual day/month (depending on which view you're in) on the header, but instead just the numerical equivalent. Well to remedy this, simply go to the stock HTC clock app>local time settings>choose date format. Hope this helps any others who felt the same as I did.
