[Q] how to take Just the notification bar out of a theme.. - Droid X Themes and Apps

His do I take just one part (like the notification bar) out of a theme ...I read where.people say" I took that out of the black glass theme" etc....how does one do that?

if you mean like get part of the theme (like the bar or some icons) and replace it on your current rom?
similar to this:
1. get /system/framework/framework-res.apk
2. decompile
3. locate the corresponding images in res/drawable-hdpi (or hdpi-v4)
4. take a clean framework-res.apk
5. decompile
6. replace the images
7. recompile the now not so clean framework-res.apk (and hope that there are no errors)
8. put the new one on your phone
9. reboot
...
12. profit

How to: Transparent Notification/Window Shade in Froyo -

Transparency MOD:
If you want to have a transparent notification window (the window shade), you can follow these steps:
Required:
- a working adb connection (you will need a PC because of the executable below)
- a transparent status_bar_background.png (if you do not have your own, the one i used is attached)
- xUltimate-TP.exe (attached)
- a file archiver (i used WinRAR)
Note: This should work on any Android phone running Froyo.
Firstly, you need to copy services.jar and framework-res.apk from the Android Phone to your PC
1.) Reboot into Recovery (fake-flash, Unrevoked, or adb recovery, they will all work)
2.) adb shell
mount /system
adb pull /system/framework/services.jar c:\
adb pull /system/framework/framework-res.apk c:\
3.) Optional: Copy the framework-res.apk and services.jar files to a separate directory.
4.) Copy xUltimate-TP.exe to the same directory the files mentioned above are located in.
Run xUltimate-TP.exe and wait for it to say it is finnished (it takes about 2 minutes to complete)
5.) Open framework-res.apk in WinRAR and go -> res -> drawable-hdpi-v4
Copy your status_bar_background.png into this folder inside WinRAR by dragging it over the window.
Close WinRAR
6.) Copy the patched services.jar and framework-res.apk to c:\
7.) adb shell
rm /system/framework/services.jar
rm /system/framework/framework-res.apk
**CTRL+C (to exit back to the windows shell)
adb push c:\services.jar /system/framework/services.jar
adb push c:\framework-res.apk /system/framework/framework-res.apk
adb reboot
And that's it.
I have attached my patched services.jar and framework-res.apk
If you are running Defrost 2.0+, using them may work for you (I am using DeFrost 2.4).
Major props to:
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/xeudoxus/47283-release-xultimate.html
as it is his executable that patches the transparency.

Hi there,
I apologize if this seems to be the incorrect sub forum to post in, however the thread i made in Themes has no responses after a week or so.
On to my question.
I have flashed many froyo roms for the desire, but they all have one thing in common - they do not have a transparent window shade/notification thingo.
I dismantled a few themes with transparent windowshades, copied them across to my framework-res.apk file and pushed it back to system/framework, but nothing changes. Well, a couple of the png's i have overwrote in the framework-res file caused the window shade to change colour (for example in the theme where the windowshade had a dark transparent background, the background turned black).
Is there a limitation somewhere preventing desire users of froyo to change transparency?
Or is there another file that needs to be edited?
Thanks for readin'
Josh.

I've asked the same thing and no one has replied, I assume you mean the notification drawer?
Changing the png file alone doesn't add transparency, it only does on the notification bar, there must be an xml file in framework-res.apk which handles transparency for it, but I'm so inexperienced in xml I haven't tried looking and there's so many xml files it would take days to convert each one to "readable" xml and find which line of code among thousands controls it
I haven't tested it, didn't have the chance, but you can check here

Yeah, i mean the notification draw - that you drag downwards.
Thanks for the link, im checking it out right now.

Did you make sure the background image of the "notification drawer" is transparent? Or applied it using the stock framework-res?
phunkycow,
You are a Genius,
It worked like a charm!
For anyone who is interested, the steps i followed were:
1.) Reboot into Recovery
2.) adb shell
mount /system
adb pull /system/framework/services.jar c:\
3.) Download the Transparency patch (I've attached it if that makes it easier)
4.) Copy the services.jar from c:\ to a folder (i used the desktop), and make sure that the Transparency fix executable (xUltimate-TP.exe) is in the same folder.
5.) Run xUltimate-TP.exe and wait for it to say it is finnished (it takes about 2 minutes to complete)
6.) Copy the patched services.jar (it overwrote the one in the folder) to c:\
7.) adb shell
rm /system/framework/services.jar
**CTRL+C (to exit back to the windows shell)
adb push c:\services.jar /system/framework/services.jar
adb reboot
And that's it.
I have also attached my patched services.jar, and framework-res.apk with a transparent status_bar_background.png.
If you are running Defrost 2.0+, using them may work for you (I am using DeFrost 2.4).
Now, you MAY NOT notice any transparency straight off the bat because your theme may not have a transparent status_bar_background.png.
If you find that it isnt transparent, i have attached a transparent status_bar_background.png
You need to add this to your framework-res.apk.
Major props to:

as it is his executable that patches the transparency.
Josh.
Glad I've helped, even a little. I was lucky enough to bump to that thread accidentally after looking for ways to deodex! You may want to edit the original post with the steps to apply transparency, and maybe edit the title as well? I'm sure other people might be interested as well

I did. I took the background image from Amer v4 (which is transparent) and flashed both the patched service.jar and new image to the phone. The notification panal ended up solid black.
Anyway will definitely try it again to see if i have any luck this time=)
Can someone post a screenshot? I could have sworn I have tried all this already to no avail.
edit: also, I thought that the services.jar patcher mentioned above was for the notification bar. Does this only make the notification bar transparent, or the actual background of the shade (where not covered by notifications)
This method did not work for me, however this one did

[Guide] Custom Wallpapers in Your Launcher (ICS)

I am currently trying to add additional wallpapers to the stock launcher.apk in ICS because of the glitch that some of you may know about when you choose a picture for a background it makes you crop it and then it doesn't scroll... So this is what i have done.
The Easy Way
WARNING: You will have to redo your icons on your launcher after this.
Step 1.. I used ADB to pull the Launcher2.apk from my Inspire 4g.
Step 2. Opened Launcher2.apk with 7zip and navigated to Launcher2.apk\res\drawable-nodpi\ inside you will find all the default wallpapers for ICS.
Step 3. Take all the wallpapers that you want (Limited to the amount of wallpapers originally in the apk) and rename them to be the same names as the original files in the Launcher and replace them in the zip.
The Dimensions for the new wallpapers are as follows:
960x800 at 72dpi for the Full image
213x189 at 150.012dpi for the thumb (dont ask my why the dpi is like that)
Step 4. Mount your phone as USB
Step 5. Upload the new Launcher2.apk to your SD card
Step 6. Use ES File Explorer to Replace your Launcher2.apk and restart your phone
Step 7. Hit Menu go to Manage apps and find Launcher and choose Force Stop and Clear Data
At this point you will need to redo your icons on and will now be able to choose your wallpapers. Restart phone again if needed.
The Extensive Way (Currently cannot get to work with Launcher - Working on making an App Guide)
WARNING: You will have to redo your icons on your launcher after this.
Step 1. Download Apktool and put them in your SDK Platform-tools folder (Be sure to get both the Jar and the Script don't overwrite the aapt file!)
Step 2. Attach your phone to your computer and ADB pull the Launcher2.apk
Code:
adb pull /system/app/Launcher2.apk /"SAVE FILE HERE"
Step 3. Use the Apktool to extract contents of apk. Open a command prompt and type.
Code:
apktool d Launcher2.apk
Step 4. Edit Launcher2\res\values\arrays.xml and add the additional file names of your new backgrounds.
Step 5. Edit the Launcher2\res\values\public.xml and add the additional file file names to the code with extra Hex item numbers in the drawable section. (here is a hex number chart for those who dont know hex hex)
Step 6. Put your new backgrounds in Launcher2\res\drawable-nodpi
Step 7. Use the Apktool to build the apk.
Code:
apktool b Launcher2
Step 8. Mount your phone as USB
Step 9. Upload the new Launcher2.apk to your SD card
Step 10. Use ES File Explorer to Replace your Launcher2.apk and restart your phone
Step 11. Hit Menu go to Manage apps and find Launcher and choose Force Stop and Clear Data
At this point you will need to redo your icons on and will now be able to choose your wallpapers. Restart phone again if needed.
In order to view and or edit XML files you first must decompile the apk with something like apktool (that's what I use).
After you finish editing you then must recompile it before you can use it on your phone.

Thanks, giving it a try now! Will amend to my guide when I complete my new Launcher2.apk

[Q] Resize statusbar in AOKP-JB

I am new to the original development builds. I have looked everywhere for this. Does anyone know how to make the size of the data notification larger in AOKP-JB? Where I live I bounce between 3 and 4g all day. I'd like to be able to see which one I'm on.
Anybody? We can do this on the Touchwiz roms but nobody bothers on these?

I recommend reading up on apktool. What you need to do is "decompile" your SystemUI.apk file (in /system/app/SystemUI.apk). Once decompiled, you can find the 3g, 4g, and signal strength icons. You can then photoshop or gimp to your hearts desire.
The high level process:
1) Find apktool 1.4.9 (I've used that one before and it worked well).
2) install the JDK from Oracle
3) pull /system/framework/framework-res.apk and /system/app/SystemUI.apk from your phone (or grab them from the rom zip.
4) import your framework-res.apk using apktool (java -jar /path/to/apktool.jar if /path/to/framework-res.apk)
5) "decompile" your SystemUI.apk file (java -jar /path/to/apktool.jar d /path/to/SystemUI.apk SystemUI)
6) make your changes in the SystemUI folder
7) rename the original SystemUI.apk file as SystemUI-orig.apk
8) "recompile" your SystemUI.apk file (java -jar /path/to/apktool.jar b SystemUI SystemUI.apk)
9) make a cwm zip to flashed your SystemUI.apk back to /system/app/SystemUI.apk (pretty straight forward. I recommend looking at other theme zips and see what they did for flashing SystemUI.apk
10) make a n android backup
11) flash your zip
12) Profit

Many thanks! I have been playing around with this for about an hour and I have found the .png images and was about to resize them from 20x18 to something like 39x36 which is one of the full size icons. There is a 1X, 3G, 4G ( there is a blue one and a grey one each for a total of six) I didn't want to oversize them because there wouldn't be room on the bar, and I don't know what would happen, best case they wouldn't show, worst SystemUI fc's. Then I realized that these kind of float near the top of the bar so that would have to be adjusted too. There is a lot of code to poke through and I don't know where to look. Which is probably why no one has done this. The people who do know where to look are busy tweaking more important stuff. I can't be the only one that has to have a magnifing glass to see this.
If anyone else would like this mod and could point me at that file I'd be happy to share when I fix it. I'm not real bright but I am persistant.

[APK][MOD] framework-res with teal fonts and details (7.1.1 custom roms)

I hate blue images in settings and the other blue details (such as switches on the statusbar) which comes with many of 7.1.1 roms, so I edited myeslf framework-res.apk and I replaced blue color with the stock teal.
In order to get all this, download the apk below and put it to your /system/framework/ folder (replace the old one), then reboot.

[Guide] How to edit app icons using Apktool

Hello,
This is a guide that will show you how to edit app icons, by decompiling the apk file using Apktool X (current version is: 7.2.2a- Black).
But why would You want to edit a app icon using this method?
Well, at the time of speaking Android N doesn't have support for Xposed so you can't use Flipster for example... Or if you don't have root, by following this guide you can edit app icons system- wide.
Firstly download Apktool X by Andro Black.
After that you want to install it, and find a apk file you want to modify.
After you found the apk, press it once and chose: Decompile res
After that is done (depending on your phone and the apk size it might take several minutes), Use a file manager and open the "Base_src" > "res".
Then find " minimap-*****-** (the "*" could be for example xxhdpi-v4).
Then open one of those minimap folders ( I recommended the first or last one so you could keep track of it where you replaced the icons).
Copy your preferred .png icon and paste it in one of the folders. In the minimap folder you should find the .png icon... Usually it has a name ic_launcher.png.
Delete it, and rename your icon to the name of the stock icon.
Repeat the process in every minimap folder.
After you did that, go to Apktool X and find the Base_src file that you just edited.
Long press it and chose recompile.
Now wait... A few moments/minutes...
When it's done you will get a base_src.apk.
Press it and chosse "Sign".
After that install the base_src_sign.apk
After installation i recommended disabling updates for that app, because a future update will (most likely) overwrite your icon.
Special thanks to: @iBotPeaches for making the original Apktool, and Andro Black for updating the app.
Hope this help's Your OCD
In case this guide doesn't help you, leave a question, and i will kindly answer as soon as i can.
In case this works for You, it would be great if You could leave a thumb's up
