[Q] Finding Out Who Video Chats? - myTouch 4G General

Is there a way to find out if one of your contacts have video chat compatibility?
And if so, a way to tell what app they use so you can use it to?
I don't want to have to ask every contact whether or not that have a front-facing camera and what app they use if they do.

I am not totally positive but I noticed when I installed Tango it pulled over a few of my contacts and put them in the Tango contact list. I take this to mean that somehow Tango knows they also have Tango. Of course the contacts it brought over are not people I normally talk to much so I am not going to try and video chat them, but I am planning on testing it out later with a friend that has Tango on an i-phone.

also if you sign into qik, it will show you in your contact list who is also signed in by having a little green camera next to their name

If people in your contacts are also on Qik you start getting those "link" notifications. Kinda like how you can link a person who's on your Google and Facebook contacts. Once the contact is linked to his/her Qik account, you'll see a small camera icon next to their name.

tango
yes, tango already knows who have tango and will automat. pull the for you.

I used qik with my cousin a few times and it's pretty cool.

Another one to try is Fring .
<EDIT> I just tried it - seems to be locked down to just the rear facing camera... Damn - would have been nice to be able to video chat on MSN, Yahoo, ICQ, yada yada yada.

Fring was my go to till skype made them remove the support

[HELP] Nimbuzz problem

Hi folks,
my first post here, this is a greaaaat forum
but let's face my problem, Nimbuz is a really great tool, but if you have the facebook account, he'll download the friends profiles photos, and when I want to see my photos in the HD2 I have those pictures downloaded.
Has anyone solved this problem yet?
yes I've noticed that too.
Solution?
Use Palringo, or pay for Im+ (which is crap). I await a truly ENJOYABLE messaging client for WM. In light of the fact that Android and iPhone OS apps seem to have so much more finger friendly and snappy apps (Nimbuzz on the iPhone is a lot nicer to use). I hope that the new year will bring with it a plethora of non-clunky, smooth and lovely apps to rival those of other OS's. Apps such as TouchTwit are a step in the right direction fo' sho'.
Hi!
I did it!
Thank you luxxa. I had this problem too and your post prompted me to try a solution. It was annoying me.
Folow the tip 64 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4935500&postcount=3 to exclude the Nimbuzz folder present in \My Documents\My Pictures\. (By the way, it's not really necessary to soft reset. You can just use Task Manager or something alike to restart only the program HTC Albums)
Open the photo albums list, select an album, and Set it as Favorite.
leoni1980, do you prefer Palringo over Nimbuzz? I tried to use it about one year ago, but I didn't understand its interface. Before I used to use Talkonaut, but it started to fail sometimes. Currently, I dare to say I like Nimbuzz. I just miss a finger scroll for it.
guys the problem is that the nimbuzz does not have a notification icon to notify if you have massage or missed call so you need to open it all the time to see if you have a massage and it only have a small beep sound
Palringo has the notification icon showing in the todayscreen if you have a massage but nimbuzz does not have this
that the only thing stopping me from using it
anyone have any solution for this ???
Nimbuzz has his advantages, for example supporting Skype..

but does not have a notification icon and cant run more that 1 msn account in the same time
And Nimbuzz collects as many personal data from you as it can get.
I would recommend to read their privacy statement. For people with a general privacy need it´s horror.
Anyone figured out how to login/logout of individual accounts. Whilst at work I prefer to have google talk on desktop and facebook & MSN on phone (nimbuzz).
I cant see anywhere in nimbuzz to logout of google talk but leave facebook and msn connected.
I much prefer Palringo but their facebook support is dodgy at best.

Looking for an App (associated to yahoo im)

Hi all is there an app which allows the user to video chat using yahoo messenger, making the 3g camera a type of webcam?
Not yet...
They've not cracked the video calling yet but I recommend Parlingo for Yahoo chat.
Also supports everyone else (except Skype, only nimbuz includes them)
Sorry buddy,
I have always liked IM+ it seems to handle all my needs with chatting, and again no video is with it, like most others out there...
But it handles all these AIM, MSN Messenger, Yahoo!, ICQ, Jabber, Google Talk, MySpace, Facebook and Twitter, I think they just added Skype as well.
The best thing about this company is that they have always honored their free upgrades, and Ive switched phones 4 times and they were very supportive with giving me new reg codes.
Only flaw is that it is not free, like the above mentioned Parlingo.
can you teach me step by step process to install onto mobile phone? i,ve extracted it, and some files is come out, then do what?where should i paste it? please help, thanks
IM+ has big problems with YM... I use OZIM found on the TMOUS apps sticky and its excellent...
Use fring. it offers chat, audio and video calls on all IMs.

[PROJECT] Evo to PC Video Chat

So last night I was going to video chat with someone using my Evo only to realize that the other person didn't have an Evo, iPhone, or Epic so I was stuck relying on the iMovicha App (damn you Skype for disabling Fring). It was my only Phone to PC/Mac option so I decided to give it a shot. Unfortunately I downloaded the wrong version of the app (not Evo 4G specific version) and I was stuck with the program only recognizing my back camera so I gave up.
This experience helped bring me to the conclusion that I want to build an app that will run on the phone and PC to complete the task that Fring doesn't and iMovicha does a poor job at. Seeing as I am not skilled in the computer programming area and I have been writing some Apps for Android these past few months I will need as much help as I can get in writing the user-end app. Anyone willing to help out please PM me so we can start this project.
I know many Evo users have been wanting an app that will do Evo to Computer so here's your chance to help get this done!
P.S. Does anyone know if it is an option to edit Fring itself and add a video chatting feature for the yahoo or windows live protocol?
I would kill to be able to video call people on Gmail Chat in their browser. I can do video chat in Gmail browser-to-browser. I can do text chat either browser-to-browser, phone-to-browser, or phone-to-phone via Gmail or Talk. What I want to do is use Google Talk/Gmail Chat so I can do video calls to all of my friends and family who leave Gmail logged in all day specifically for the purposes of video/text chat.
dude, use ooVoo for mobile (beta). it's in the market. it works best over 4G and Wi-Fi, though, just warning. i am waiting for skype mobile with video on android though, skype is much more popular. but for the time being, ooVoo seems decent to me.
want a real video phone go to kybeck.acnrep.com and then products.... phones are super cheap on there as well
You can video chat with the yahoo messenger app and video plug in from the market

[Q] Sending pics through gtalk

I have a nexus one and I have yet to get gingerbread. My question is, in gingerbread (or upcoming honeycomb) is there any indication that gtalk will now support attaching pictures in a conversation? I hate to make references to applications on other OS but i saw that Blackberry Messenger has this feature and I currently use Beejive IM and it has the ability to do it while using gtalk.
Im just askin have the devs said anything about it? all i ever see is information about SIP and video chat.
P.S. I am aware you can just use MMS or email to do this, so please dont mention this. Its along more seamless when able to upload it through an IM conversation

[Q] best video chat app?

I was wondering since Skype hasn't hit Android for video chat, what else can I use besides Tango..
Has anyone tried Gmail video chat? Does it work phone to computer or phone to phone?
thanks
Ryan
Look up ooVoo. It's relatively new so still has kinks to work out.
Gmail video chat is only computer to computer for now.
If you have yahoo, the Android client does video chat I believe, but only yahoo-to-yahoo.
There's no real big-scale solution for video chat on android right now. Hopefully in the near future. Don't hold your breath for Skype though, they don't seem to have any interest in releasing a general Android client.

How did you get oovoo to work on your Nexus? I thought it was for 2.2 only.
