[Q] Android HTTP web server app required - General Questions and Answers

Dear all,
I am looking for a light weight app that will run a http server. I would prefer https, and cgi-bin support but not a big deal it it cannot. It should at least be secure. Configuration can be done via either a GUI or the CLI. Preferably both. I googled (well, Yahooed in my case), and looked on Android Freeware and the Market but saw nought.
Does any one of you know of one?
/EDIT
I have seen this one, but not any reviews of it:
https://www.ohloh.net/p/android-http-server
/EDIT - There are no download links for this server there or on http://code.google.com/p/android-http-server/downloads/list so no joy there.
Any ideas?
Regards, f.

A little more yahooing found me these:

mobile.southwest.com

Does anyone know how to reach the site mobile.southwest.com? This site detects my phone as being a PC and transfers me to the regular site, which has different functionality (can't establish your boarding group without a printer) and is slow besides.
It is not a browser issue. I have now tried PIE, Opera mini, Minimo, and Netforce 3.3, and can't reach mobile.southwest.com on any of them. So it must be that they detect the type of device and I need to fool it, probably by changing the registry that tells it how to respond. I found these settings in the wiki but don't know what I should change it to.
I am sorry for repeating this -- I posted the same question in the wizard forum without a useful response.
Wiki settings location (search user agent on the page)

Wap browser
So I tried installing winwap, and it found mobile.southwest.com without a problem. So that is a solution, albeit a $50 one!
Klondike has a $23 wap browser.
Why are wap browsers so expensive? Isn't it easier to render a wap image? In any event, since my only known use of a wap browser is southwest, does anyone know of a less expensive solution?
Klondike works well
Klondike is actually pretty nice. It seems useful enough to own, at least for traveling in Europe on $15/MB GPRS. The trial version is fully functional, just with a "why don't you buy?" screen periodically. It runs off the sd card. It is lightning fast, since so little data is moved.
What agent setting does your registry list right now? Make sure that it is "Windows CE". You could also try using Tweaks 2k2 to enable Blazer support (the demo is run limited, but fully functional).
Ninja
you might want to email southwest and ask them to add PocketIE to the list of browsers that will not redirect to the "full" site.
I had this re-direction problem with another website, and one quick email got them to reconfigure things from their end. problem solved & no expensive (and un-necessary) program purchases (so more $$$ for games!!!)
Thanks
The agent is set to Windows CE; that isn't the reason, alas.
I went to email Southwest, but they don't take email. Coming soon, the site says.
Hmm...
I use this site often with PIE without any issues....I really prefer Opera Mini, but can't get it to go to the mobile.southwest site properly.

Anyone knows n0p's accessibility OR how Tower Toppler can be run?

Has anyone EVER managed to make n0p’s free (!) Tower Toppler ( http://toppler.sourceforge.net/ ) port (available at http://n0p.tonych.info/?Tower_Toppler ) work on his / her WM device?
It wouldn't work on mine - it just displays "null" instead of the name of the map. Tested on several of my devices, with both the older XScale only and the new ARM (02.12.2006) build.
Alternatively, does anyone know n0p's accessibility? I'd need this info on my forthcoming article on all Nebulus clones for Windows Mobile.
Hmm, I wanted to check it out but when I tried downloading from http://n0p.tonych.info/?Tower_Toppler I got a "leach alert" page saying something about no referrals and turning off download accelerators.
Found this odd since I have no download managers installed.
Tried it with Firefox 2.0.0.3 and Explorer 6.0 and nothing...

Directly (left) click the links, do NOT do a right-click + Save link as.
No luck. Tried it directly with both browsers.
Even ran Spybot just in case.
Played with the desktop version for a bit - nice little game.
Interesting thing is I did not see an email address anywhere on the developers site (and I even checked the Russian version - yes I read Russian).
Oh well, it was just curiosity any way. I have about 20 games on my Jamin as it is and in order to get some respect I need to at least pretend to use it for work stuff
Good luck with your article.

Strange it didn't work. I can put it on my database back-end so that the entire world can access it there without problems tomorrow morning; I'll give you the URL as soon as it's up.
In the meantime, I was able to make the game work (see http://forum.xda-developers.com:80/showthread.php?t=304230 if interested). Guys, you MUST give this game a try - it REALLY rocks! n0p has again presented us something REALLY cool, thanks!
ANYWAY, if anyone does know n0p's accessibility, let me know. I, as the Windows Mobile Best Software Awards 2007 Nomination Manager, want to nominate some of his stuff for this year's awards and, for this, I also need to contact him.
See http://www.winmobiletech.com/sekalaiset/TopplerARM.7z for the mirrored file
Thanks a lot for mirroring the file. (You relay shouldn't have bothered)
Keep the excellent articles coming.

Thanks
Info already posted
Anyway I´m still with Opera 9.7!!!!!!
Some wants me to pay for a browser? Really?
The website says free trial until June 2009.
They really expect us to pay for a subscription?
Yes, we have two types of browser available
Client side (which means your browser on you PPC/HTC does all the work) or Server side (which means a fast computer somewhere does all the work and sends your PPC pictures of what is happening)
Client Side positives
You decide settings
You install all your favourite add-ons (flash etc)
You keep all you log-on settings
The rendering and compatability is what you install/set (also could be a negative if you aren't competent here)
Server Side positives
Your PPC doesn't need to install anything extra (flash etc), as it's all done on server side
All rendering is done by Server side, so it's simply plug n' play!!
And the negatives (which usually make the choice on such small devices as PPC)
Client Side
Usually takes up memory to install all plug-ins required to visit different sited on the web (eg, flash) (i.e, the more you have installed your PPC, the more compatible it will be with more web sites/pages)
Slows the computer, and takes up memory to render the page (everything needs to be downloaded and processed)
Server Side
You're at the hands of the server (is it set up for QVGA/VGA, how does it input text etc)
The fastest it works is by sending you pictures (whereas you may have a dedicated flash player, such as TCPMP etc)
Your log-on settings are kept by the server (someone else)
The rendering is only as good as the server
The server may be in a different locale to you
The connection takes the bottle-neck (i.e, the faster your connection, the better videos will be - you really need a contract/cost limit on your data downloads!)
So as for Skyfire/Mach5 these are both "Server Side". The one advantage of Mach5 over Skyfire is that it renders as VGA. However, as pointed out, it will cost to continue using Mach5. Another disadvantage that Mach5 has is it's locale - as it's not USA/UK based (and if you are), you will find simply going to google is interesting
Opera is Client Side. This means it really can't be compared to Skyfire/Mach5.
However, Opera Mini is Server Side - and I think there's some great advances there.

[REQUEST] Remote foobar

I would donate money to someone who made a remote app to foobar2000 for android.
Maybe there already is but I've searched a lot and cant find it =(
There is this http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=38114 control.dll wich handles some commands and the connection over tcp/ip.
But the rest I can't do on my own
I also would like a foobar remote. I've done the android tutorials on the sdk website but I'm by no means an experienced developer.
I thought I would base it around the android-vlc-remote interface.
Perhaps a google code project is a good idea?
I have written a remote controller for foobar2000 a while ago. It's not very beautiful, but at least it works. It's not a plugin for foobar though, it's a server program written in Java. It still just has the basic controls, but I'm about to make it good and release it after my exams (in a couple of weeks or so).
Try out foo_httpcontrol. Then there are a few templates that look good on the Android (I use the ones by KEVO).
I can't post a link, but here is the URL, but Google and there is a thread on Hydrogen Audio dot org

i am using that too , but do u have resolution problem, becoz it is designed for G1
beware, shameless self-plug follows:
i've written an app to control foobar2k over wifi. uses the foo_httpcontrol plugin to send commands/get data.
the website is: foodroid.net84.net (has the QR-Code). or simply search for "foodroid" in the market.
please note, if you already have foo-httpcontrol installed: you also need to have the "ajquery" template installed.
if you don't have it installed: i made a setup to install foo-httpcontrol including "ajquery".
it's currently in beta, but pretty useable IMHO.
cheers, bugramovic

WP7 Mobile sites not showing up?

So I try to access some sites and it sends me directly to a wap site or desktop version. Perfect example was m.facebook.com Old and ugly, someone on xda had mentioned touch.facebook.com What a world of a difference. Does anyone else have any other sites like this?
Another question. Engadget, kotaku, ext.... I use their mobile sites and it wont show the comment sections. I have to direct my self to the desktop version just to see it... Anyone know a work around to this? Thanks in advance.
Not sure if this is what you're asking, but I just leave my phone in desktop mode pretty constantly - the few sites that I wish were in mobile mode can be switched easily enough, and the number of sites which are broken in mobile mode seems to be greater than the number that are broken in desktop mode.
A good example of a site that just does *not* work right on WP7, due to the server over-sealously sniffing the user-agent (recognizing the phone browser even when IE is set to "Desktop" mode), is Gmail. The mobile site is buggy, and there's no way that I've found to force it to actually use the desktop site... so I end up using the plain HTML view if I have to use Gmail for anything beyond accessing my psersonal mail account (which is synced). There are a few other similarly poory-behaved sites.
One would hope that sites with a touch-optimized UI (as opposed to mobile-optimized, which typically just means minimal bandwidth and extremely dumbed-down code), such as touch.facebook.com, would auto-detect WP7 and send it to that site instead (especially if the user-agent is not set to Desktop mode).
