[Idea] Weather Live Wallpaper

Just a quick suggestion to android devs who may want to make a buck or two!
Make a live wallpaper that pulls weather information down every hour or so and sets the background to that animated weather. The goal would be to get it working the same way as the HD2's animated weather backgrounds do.
I'd code this myself if I could, but I'm a little bit on the coding-challenged side. I'll type a few lines of code regardless and see what I can do.
If someone did this elegantly I would definitely pay for it!
EDIT: The developer of 'Beautiful Widgets' has said he's working on exactly this. When paired with the Beautiful Home Widget, it will display a live animation of the current weather based on what the widget's weather is.

No it's a blatant ripoff of the HD2 UI. Doesn't mean it wouldn't be sweet though.
There's a few live wallpapers in the marketplace at the moment that are very close to this idea. One switches the background based on weather to a static image of your choice, and the other pulls down Flickr pictures around your area of the current weather.

Just to add to this idea, it would be cool if the "live weather" background would use the screen itself as a "window" where raindrops would splash on it (when it's rainy outside). When it's sunny, it could also use the compass and accelerometer to (roughly) identify where the sun is and show glare circles that point to the direction of the sun.

That sounds amazing but all those sensor reading and screen updates are gonna sting the battery I would think.

How about a LWP that takes a user specified animated GIF and shows it as a live wallpaper? I'd look into making it myself if I had the spare time.

Cool... but what about battery life?

Video looping as live wallpaper. Would be GRE. I had a first Gen iPhone and jailbroke it to make of do the same. The only thing though. It ate the battery life. Lol

I actually think GIFs would be worse for battery life than videos would be.

Flash would be better than Gif !
I don't think it would consume a lot battery because some LG/Samsung s phone have it.

There is an app called Kwall live Camera which shows the camera view as your wallpaper. Very cool to show off but will chew through your battery in a matter of minutes

I've got Silhouette LWP, which is slightly more complex than an animated GIF, on my N1 and still get ~ 19h battery life. Keep in mind that the LWP should only be running when the Home screen is showing. I definitely think this is do-able without too much battery impact, if done right.

If anyone manages to make the app, it would rock!
I'm currently trying to program a video loop to become live wallpaper.. google has a nice tutorial but it does not use images..

call me sad but every time i see his damn sig i have to look at it for a few secs! captivating

I dont know why, but the videos are laging for me :S Without doing anything the fps jumps from 10 to 20... even after fresh phone reboot and ticking the smooth video option...

Try killing some apps. I know that Timescape and Skype are the 2 major apps that lags the video, without them running, my video runs smooth with all the other uses.

1. Download Video Live Wallpaper and install it.
2. Choose it as your Live Wallpaper default.
3. Press preferences.
4. Press "Video file or directory" to choose a video file. (It has to be in *.mp4 format though)
5. Enjoy your favorite video as your background!

Looking for an app to change live wallpapers daily...

I have a few live wallpapers that I really like and I can never decide on which one to stay with.
I was wondering if anyone knew of any kind of program that will allow me to set up and select from my live wallpapers and have it switch like every 24 hours or something?

Thanks Dozenboy. I think this program is to take different still pictures and cycle through them as wallpapers.
I am actually looking for something that will cycle through the multiple "live" wallpapers I have.

It's not a live wallpaper but wallswitch is a good app.

HTC Chacha - how to set as wallpaper without cropping

I did not face to this problem wit any phone i used before!
U cant set full screen wallpaper on ur Chacha, even on all Android phones. When u set an image to be a wallpaper, Android request u to crop it. Only 2 button show : Save and Discard. If u chose Discard, the process skips.
Even u chose crop full of ur image, u only can see a part of ur image in the main screen. Another parts u can see when u slide to left or right screen.
I tried to fix this prob wit WALLPAPER WIZZARDRII (i chose Scale mode), it was sucessful. However, when u restart ur phone, the wallpaper become smaller though it is 480x320 size (the size of Chacha screen)
Can anyone suggest me an application or a solution for this problem, Thanks!

Many thanks. It works perfectly. It runs as a Live Wallpaper, that's the reason why it can skip "Wallpaper rule" of Android.
Btw, can i know the path of default wallpaper in Android, i want to delete some of them. Thanks

Which ROM? Sense or AOSP? And it doesn't take hardly any battery use it everyday with hardly any effect to battery. If its a super awesome live wallpaper which has flying dogs and 3D crap then that might take some battery.

Im using CM7 ROM, this rom have some freakish default wallpaper like MegaFox Superwoman without bra )

That will be CMWallpapers or something like that in /system/app/, use apktool to decompile.
