Scoll and scoll some more, why you get a ton of themes before you get the actual launcher, despite searching for "ADW launcher" I don't know. It's there as I've got it.

It is on the market. It's just that the market is Flooded with ADW themes and stuff, it's nearly impossible to find it.
Do this, Search ADW. Click on ANY app made by Anderweb. Scroll down and choose "View more Applications"
You will now see ADW.Launcher.

Got it searching anderweb, again though install unsuccessful. only apk i found was a modded sense style one went on no probs but couldnt change the theme

Well, I also found it was quite tricky to search for it...
but here you are!
just use the barcode, I'm sick of searching through market.
http://www.androlib.com/android.application.org-adw-launcher-FEjB.aspx

Hmm. I have installed it myself and it is working...
I have a x10a device, with the Global 2.1 FW to x10i. Shouldn't make a diff though. Makre sure you have removed all other ADW instances and clear the SD card for anyt trail folders, reboot and try again.

See attachment, what's on mine and works with my theme, but one or two icons will stay default, so you need to open your framework-res and figure out their new names.

Hmm still wont install, ust says application was not installed! annoying stick with launcherpro i think
not sure if im liking this forum theme change...

if you rooted your 2.1 X10 you need to the market Fix for it to work.
I use the SuperOneClick root with market fix

I didn't have to, just searched the Market and installed it.

I just wanted to know is there any benefits from using a launcher now that I'm on 2.1, I use to use ADW before so I can have more pages but now that we officially have 5 I'm not sure now

I think the OP is referring to the downloadable HTC widgets such as battery widget, etc. These will not install from the Market nor do they show up when clicking to download from the widget list to add to home. I too, would like to know a work around to install (not a different widget on the Market) because I really miss the HTC battery widget.

Oh, shoot my bad.
For some reason, the Download new HTC widgets button worked on my v2.0 rom. It showed the downloadable ones and worked on the HS

yeah that's what I was referring to. I want the HTC battery widget back.

I think the widget isn't installing because it isn't an official ROM, but that is just a guess.
Could be part of the problem. However, it did install on the Eris based 2.1 roms which had very different frameworks than the Sprint based 2.1 roms. I believe that is the real problem. The Eris roms were more like the Sprint 1.5 roms framework wise.
Just wondering if anyone's found a fix for this? I miss my battery widget lol
still waiting for this myself. hopefully it will work with the release keys

Alternative Onscreen Keyboards Tested And Ready To Go

Here are two of the onscreen keyboards that I use on a daily basis, swype is also a great alternative but posts with swype links have been shut down by the mods so the best thing to do is to sign up for the beta program directly here or use google
Of course to install these for now you can go to the thread created by me on xda here to sideload the .apks
These are both being used currently on my 2.2.1 Rom with zero issues.
Thanks to all that have made these programs possible, we truly appreciate the hard work.

Not knowing much about these kybds, I'm curious as to whether you have a preference towards one or the other using swype? I can't use and android without it after using it on my captivate.

Swype is nice but inputting email addresses and passwords are somewhat of a hassle.
I prefer HTC_IME as the tap to text option of the two because of the word prediction software that is always on point.
Its hard to compare swype vs. the one above because they are completely different ways of using your onscreen keyboard.
The HTC ime mod is the best. I don't like the clunky stock keyboard the inspire had. Plus the layout was shifted from other virtual keyboards. The mod keyboard give you the ability to customize so much. Including the layout.

Well I have Swype fully working on the Inspire, installed using the Sideload Wonder Machine for Windows (Best thing since sliced bread).
Highly recommended

The Gingerbread KB worked fine on my HTC Dream / G1.
Thats weird, I didnt get around installing it on the Inspire yet so maybe Ill have to edit the OP and take that link to the app off if more continue to report the FC.
For those having issues just unistall it and use the other options listed please.

I just noticed that it FC's when you have different languages enabled in the settings. If you don't tinker with the settings at all (default) it will work, but I mainly write in English and Spanish and is the main reason why I installed it to begin with...
never mind it FC's as default as soon as you try to type the first letter...
trying the one on the market in a minute...
Tried the one on the market and it even has more features than the one in the forums, I highly recommend it...
swype wont install
i got the .apk for the swype installer and sideloaded it, but now, every time i run the installer it still tells me that the install is blocked...how did you guys get past that without having the ACTUAL keyboard .apk (not the installer .apk)

You might want to try this app instead, unsure why you are having issues with Swype:

Like I said in the OP google is your friend, lol.
We cant post up swype .apks, its prohibited.
i understand that, and thats totally fine...but how the heck do i install it? i got swypeinstaller.apk to install fine. but after that it attempts to download and install the swype.apk from the server and it tries to install it, and thats where it gets blocked. so im trying to figure out how to install the swype.apk that was downloaded through the swype installer, when i cant find any temp file or anything that just says swype.apk

Download this.
How did you install swype, in bullet point. Mine went like this
-registered on swype's website
-downloaded swypeinstaller.apk
-used sideloading wonder machine to install swypeinstaller.apk
-opened swype installer app
-logged into swype's server
-downloaded the 2.5MB swype (english/spanish)
-got the install blocked error, gave option to go to settings or cancel (obviously settings does nothing because we cannot check "unknown sources")
I'm not new to this stuff, and i've had HTC phones before, so i really doubt i did anything wrong, and i cannot accept the fact that the phone i purchased on launch day is blocked more than anyone elses phone that also got it on launch day. Im not being a jerk, but the only people that can help are the awesome devs on XDA, so help lol prease

MIUI launcher for other rom

Look promising. Give it a try
http://goangeek.wordpress.com/2011/08/21/miui-style-launcher-for-android-devices/
Most importantly, for me, was that also in that page is a link for the awesome MIUI Music app. While I like MIUI, I dislike the iphone style launcher. I typically replace it with Go Launcher, which is readily available from the market on any rom.
Good find though.
UPDATE
Music won't install. Says "Application not Installed". Stupid Cryptic error messages...
You might have to uninstall the stock music app and reboot.
Yea I screwed around with it and got it installed. I also grabbed a bunch of the APK's from the MIUI rom I was using. I got them to finally install but it wouldn't launch... however I was able to open certain things with it but nothing would play.
I also tried the stupid dialer/contacts. MIUI has the sweetest Android dialer around.
Is this working well right now? I might give it a try.
QQLauncher is free in the market and its a good miui launcher that runs smooth.
Music app is working.

[Q] is there any app/ROM that gives double-tap support like ADW?

One of the things I really like about the version of ADW that comes with CM7 is the ability to configure the "double-tap" feature...a feature that's lost on the ADW EX. I had to switch to GO Launcher anyway, b/c I needed folder support in the app drawer.
Does anyone know of an app that brings back the customizable double-tap?
Thanks, and thanks for all the great work, everyone.
Pull the apk out of CM7, install it on your current ROM, and see if that works.
I thought adw still had that... well the market version used to have it. I dunno. but yeah there is no perfect launcher. sorry I don't have a suggestion. maybe a home switcher or lockscreen app since both types of apps sometimes hijack the home key to make sure they always work and will then call up the launcher app.

I'm running CM7 as my ROM now. The double-click is part of the ADW bundled with it, which I don't want to use b/c of no folder support. There wouldn't be a separate .apk for just the double click, would there? I'd imagine that'd be part of the ADW?
Give it a try. Normally apps are bundled into their own apk files.
Has a working solution ever been found to address this issue?

[Q] (Q) Can I change the app launcher in a theme?

I'm not sure I am asking this correctly. but I am on tweakstock 2.0 with the BlackNBlue theme (by Stranula). I was using CoreDroid (by ztkryan) and liked it but there are few things about BlackNBlue that I like prefer. However, I love the vertical scrolling 3D looking app launcher in CoreDroid (pic). Is there a way to keep BlackNBlue but use the app launcher screen from CoreDroid? If so, how do I do that. (also, I am not sure launcher is the correct term but didn't know what to call it). Thanks.
EDIT: FYI, This question has been answered.
You simply install it and when you hit the home button, you'll get a choice of launchers. Pick the one you want (and set to default if you desire). However, if I'm not mistaken, CoreDroid uses EclipseLauncher2, which is only available in Eclipse or that theme. If you save the .apk off, you may be able to install it and use it, but I won't swear to that. You might want to try Go Launcher EX from the Play Store. You can customize it to look and act pretty much exactly like EclipseLauncher.
It was a bit of a surprise to me, but the CoreDroid launcher looked the same when I was on Eclipse 2.0 as it did when I tried the Coredroid for tweaked over the weekend. I just wasn't sure that the launcher had it's own .apk file. Does anybody know the name of the launcher in CoreDroid for Tweaked? or where I look to find it if I go back to CoreDroid temporarily.

This does work shrike. Just copy EclipseLauncher2.apk, put it on your SD card and install via RootExplorer. I used the one in ROM Toolbox Pro. It's a pretty dang good launcher if you ask me.

It's the EclipseLauncher2 from Eclipse 2.0 and from the CoreDroid theme in Tweaked 2.0.

I wasn't sure either. I just thought I'd try it out and it worked. I did however have an interesting expericence when I installed the CoreDroid theme over the blacknblue theme with EclipseLauncher2 running on the blacknblue theme. When my phone rebooted my status bar was gone and I had no homescreen because the EclipseLauncher kept on force closing relentlessly. I had to install Tweaked over the top and start over. I'm guessing that this was because the CoreDroid theme already uses EclipseLauncher2 and the old one that I had running on the blacknblue theme became corrupt when I installed CoreDroid. Y'all might not ever experience this, but just in case, this is a heads up!

Thanks to all. I installed using CWM. Seems to work fine. I didn't realize it would take over my Home screen as well so I back to the 3 screens when I prefer just one but its kind of neat having both of them as an option.
