Hi,
First, welcome to xda
You won't be charged any extra fees for using a custom ROM...just make sure you have the connections information correct. I'm not sure if Energy ROMs have the automatic connection setup, but if you browse to Settings > Connections > there might be a Connection Setup icon. Run this and it will automatically setup your data settings. It may have already done this during the initial flash.
Then go to Settings > connections > connections and make sure the Vodafone data settings are the ones selected in the dropdown menus.
Energy ROMs usually have a lot of handy applications already installed...there are many ROMs available, just try a few and have a play until you find your favourite

Look at his signature ^^^^^ good ones there!

ty for the fast answers, now just a problem: im german and the roms are almost english thats not the problem, but t9 is english too is there any chance to switch this in german?
my connections is set on vodafone but how does my handy know that i have a flatrate on vodafone? is it saved on my sim card?

Ok i need a rom, someone point me in the right direction

Ok, so heres what i need out of a rom, im not afraid of a kitchen but if its alrady done id like it :
Default imate splash screen and default WM6 splash screen (No watermarks or royalties taken by the develloper)
standard layout, icons and feature set, the same apps imate would have installed if they made the rom (no 3rd party stuff)
little or no extended rom, or even the default WM5 jasjar set will do fine.
full drivers for Wifi, bluetooth and radio,
Unlocked, default WM6 theme only, sms, camera, video calling, windows messenger and mms must work as reliably as possible, GPRS and UMTS connections must be alright.
No preloaded operator settings
no other preinstalled applications,
decent battery life, decent free memory available
anyone able to help me ?????
Every WM6 ROM (and most WM5) has a nice startpost, and tons of info in the posts belonging to the specific ROM. Pretty much everything can be found there.
My advice: read my friend, read
FIY: If you want your device to work at its best, go for the latest version of the original factory made ROM. The custom ones are fantastic, but may not always be what youre looking for.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Just try all of the ROMs here (or just the stickied ones...) and then tell us which one you like. Each Universal seems to have its own little glitches - so there is no way to tell you which one is "best"
btw If you need stability and everything working perfectly - grab the latest WM5 ROM from your manufacturer...

I did that and there was nothing new.So I called the local manufacturer's service center and guess what I went through.Check my post in another thread
"why use wm5 over wm6."
I presume that you've tried looking at the I-Mate website (while being logged in as a member)
I looked at the other rebranders, and the only one that has a ROM is O2 - however you must have an O2 Xda Exec. Lucky I do...
See if this link works:
http://www.my-xda.com/downloads/Xda_Exec_Upgrade_v1.30.162.exe
If not, I'll have to upload it to my webserver...
btw To answer your question, it would appear that latest version of WM5 is V1.30.162 (from O2)

Roms for ATT Navigator

I've searched for this topic and any information on it and I apologize if I missed something in advance. I LOVE cooked roms, the only problem I have ever had with them is that they do not work too well with ATT navigator. I really enjoy this program as it gives me traffic and other features. I know there are other programs out there, but I would like to keep this one. With most cooked roms however, it always tells me that it cannot connect to the server. My "Quick" fix is to go into the comm manager and shut off the data connection and when ATT Navigator starts the data connection again, it's all good. I don't get it but whatever.
At any rate, I am just wondering if there are some other users out there who prefer ATT Navigator and if they have found a way to make it work seamlessly on a cooked rom, or a cooked rom that works well with it on its own.
Again I apologize for any redundancies, I hate them too, but I'd really like to have the best of both worlds.
Thank you all SO much for your help in this forum, I'd be stuck with stock if it weren't for you guys and your hard work!

Try going to Connections in settings. Hit Advanced tab then Select Networks. Make sure that both options say Media Net. Hope this helps.
Thank you for your help. I've played around every which way with the settings there before, but right now I'm just wondering if there is a rom out there with this already taken into account. I guess another question is, why are there so many setting changes like that in a cooked rom?

Try mine--I cooked it and I use ATT Navigator or Garmin which both require the data connection for traffic info. They both work great. I used one on one leg of a 2 hour drive I took today and the other on the way home and both worked perfectly. Use the most up-to-date version of my rom. I also am releasing a new version tomorrow night.
One other thing--always make sure that the proxy box is deselected in the media net connection...That will help immensely.
You asked why there are so many setting changes in cooked roms. Once you try the rom I link to below, you will understand why. The chefs tweak these roms to improve overall performance. The rom below is cooked with the objectives of stability, reliability and performance...which I believe we are achieving. You have to try many roms to find one that works for you. I have tried hundreds of them before I started cooking. I got into cooking to help mbarvian because his device was not working and he has done so much for the community and found out I really like cooking. Anyway, I hope that gives you some insight into why we tweak.

Make sure you read the first 5 posts...lots of info in there and report back. I have time cold starts of navigator with the quick gps data already downloaded and they come in under a minute inside my house...most of the time 30 to 40 seconds. Garmin is even faster.

2 simple questions
Hello,
Hello,
I am thinking about buying myself T-mobile G1. What I need to know before that is:
firstly: is there any way to switch off constant internet connection on G1 as the internet services in my country are quite expensive and I would like to have control over them? I dont really need sync with my google account (I see some other advateges on this phone than "just" that) and would like to use Internet only when i really need it (not when G1 thinks I need
secondly: is there any way to update G1 OS via standard PC? As far as I heard each update weighs some MB, which i prefer to download on my PC and then to G1
I've been looking for answers to my questions over the Internet (xda developers etc) but didn't really find a direct answer.
Would appreciate your time and effort.
Yours Sincerely
Yes. By default only the t-mobile apns are set up. As long as you don't actually try to enable your networks apn, you won't get 3g\edge. You could just go in and delete all the apns just to make sure.
Yes. Google stores the update files on their websites and we usually find them a little after they come out. But you could just do everything over wi-fi including gmail, browsing, etc.

Cyanogen on NZ Vodafone HTC Magic?

Has anyone tried the Cyanogen mods on the HTC Magic from Vodafone in New Zealand? The caveats say this code is for the US only. I don't want to brick my phone, but at the same time, I'm growing a wee bit tired of the Android market not allowing any access at all to paid apps for people in New Zealand. I'd also very much like to have a Wi-Fi AP on my HTC Magic / Androind phone....partly to let my Apple iPod access the Internet through it. Best of both worlds!
Anyone?
Current using it on my NZ Vodafone HTC Magic I bought a month ago no problem. I used the one-click root app about a week ago and working fine. Using market enabler, Google it, to allow me to gain access to paid apps. Only problem was I had to set the APN for Vodafone to gain internet access.
I would really recommended the change as the my phone is working so much better now. The vodafone ROM must be very clunky it would occasionally lag when playing music and using the phone.
However in the unlikely event of bricking your phone don't blame me.
APN Guide:
1) Navigate to: Settings > Wireless > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names
2) I deleted the one that was there by default as it wasn't working for me. Don't remember its name but the address was something like *.vodafone.com.
3) Press the menu key and click "New APN".
4) Enter the following settings:
Name: Vodafone NZ Net (Doesn't have to be this. Can be anything you want really.)
APN: www.vonafone.net.nz
5) Leave all the other fields blank.
6) Press the menu key and Save.
7) Done you should now have 3g/Internet access.
Hope this has been some help. Fell free to ask any questions you have.
Thanks for the reply. One more question....
OK...so it works. That was my main concern.
Now I guess I'll do the research and work out how to back up what I have so I can restore it if I want to.....or need to.
Total n00b question:
I did this when I first got my phone, however I am cooking my own rom based around 1.6 for NZ Users:
Is it possible for somebody to fetch me a Nandroid Backup of the NZ VF Rom? It will be extremely awesome if you could! Just flick me a PM, Thanks!

can you upgrade manila?

Sorry i have spent hours searching and trying to find a simple answer.
My HD2 has Manila 1.0.1911620.0, rom 1.48.831.0.
Everything is working ok, so don't want to mess it up, but is it possilbe to upgrade to manila 2.5 or 2.6 without creating other problems.
Or is this what i am stuck with?
Also how do you find version of Sense? How do you upgrade this to newer version.
Last thing - how do you edit sms "quick text" entries or add new ones?
you can't upgrade manila only, you have to upgrade to a newer rom, 1.6 for example. you can do that going to htc.com choose your region and device and you will find a rom upgrade there
there will be all the info you need to do that
good luck
no upgrade available? seems strange.
My phone is an import, not sure where it is from originally.
my rom version is 1.48.831.0 (71294)
My manila Version is 1.0.19211620.0
i went to the singapore website HTC and the hong kong website - siad upgrade was not suitable for my device.
Anyone got any ideas?????
Yup, lots of ideas like you start reading the forum and using the search button.
In this topic:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=577717 there are the official shipped roms.
Another user scared off by the elite?
Everyone starts at the beginning sometimes and sometimes searching doesn't produce the exact answer to your specific question particularly if you are new to this. So that leaves people to either do without or ask a direct question if they don't understand the how the search results should be interpreted to a particular situation.
Some of us have lives outside our phones!
I have probably spent 24 hours in the last week searching the threads for answers to a few questions.
Some things that may be basic to guys who spend lots of time learning mods etc, are not straight foward to the rest of us.

There is a very simple way of fixing this. In my case HTC did not release any updates for my region (Eastern Europe). If you want a simple update of your stock (not cooked ROM) just go to the HSPL thread, perform HSPL (takes not more than 3 min) and than download a Stock ROM for any region. It will install fine and without a problem.
Cheers!
Flashing ROM
Hi
We have all been where you are. Visiting this site can be like an alien abduction, you lose time. I have spent many a dark night searching and reading thousands of posts and threads trying to find an answer to my question.
With regards to your situation, as mentioned above, the way to upgrade your manila is to flash a new ROM.
The issue of HardSPL and how to go about flashing your HD2 can be found in one nice clear thread here -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=609477
Once you have sorted out your HSPL you can flash lots of things but ideally it's probably a good idea to start with a stock ROM. You can find and download any of the HTC ROMs here -
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Leo/ROMs
Your circumstances sound similar to mine, I was on the stock WWE 1.48. I found the best option was to go with WWE 1.66 (BTW, WWE = World Wide English).
This ROM should bring you up to Manila 2.5.1921
Does it wipe the carrier settings
If I flah a new rom, does that mean i need to set up all the carier settings. i.e I am with Vodafone NZ, will i need to set up the MMS and data settings from scratch?

You shouldn't need to, no. It should be just like when you first bought the phone and took it out of the box. The first boot up will detect your SIM card and attempt to apply the appropriate settings.
Having said that, it's always a good idea to keep a record of your settings in the event you need to manually re-input them.
Also note, a ROM flash will wipe all data, settings, cab files etc that you have installed. It will basically return it back to the factory settings. So backup anything you don't want to lose (contacts, photos, emails etc).
It is not necessary, but a good safety measure, to remove your SIM and storage card when you flash.
