Instant message PUSH for Android?!?!?! - General Topics

Ok, so far the only real PUSH instant messaging seems to be GTalk, and while transport servers are nice in theory, it's severely lacking. My contacts don't all show up, which means if more than one person messages me, I can't even reply to all of them. The new Trillian beta promises to "push" using google's C2DM but a lot of people (me included) are not having good luck with it. WhatsApp apparently supports it, but doesn't work with Facebook, Yahoo, AOL, etc. So I'm looking for something that does AOL/Yahoo/Facebook that does PUSH. Anyone know of any others?

Huh ? Are you coming from moon ?
Nimbuzz, Fring and other IM clients are all using push ..

BeejiveIM has C2DM "push" functionality for its instant messaging service and supports the above IM protocols.

Nimbuzz. Free and working fine.

Messenger App?

I am looking for a messaging app that will allow me to use skype, aim, and msn. The more important thing is having them run in the background so I can receive skype updates, calls and messages while utilizing the rest of my phone. Anyone know how to do this, or can point me to link about it. I looked for the last hour, but couldn't come across anything.

I don't know about the Skype part (haven't really needed to look for a client to support all those), but for AIM and MSN, try Palringo @ http://www.palringo.com , I have used it and it works pretty good for those and other IM's as well... Hope that helps a bit.
I really like Nimbuzz. Pretty sure it has skype.

I've used Nimbuzz... not a bad choice either, and if it has skype ( i havent used it in quite some time) then that would probably be the best solution.

Thanks Nimbuzz does have skype, I am going to give it a try and post in a few days how I like it. If anyone else has an idea let me know and I'll try those as well.
I have Agile Mobile. It works really well for AIM, MSN and Google (don't know about skype).

[HELP] Nimbuzz problem

Hi folks,
my first post here, this is a greaaaat forum
but let's face my problem, Nimbuz is a really great tool, but if you have the facebook account, he'll download the friends profiles photos, and when I want to see my photos in the HD2 I have those pictures downloaded.
Has anyone solved this problem yet?
yes I've noticed that too.
Solution?
Use Palringo, or pay for Im+ (which is crap). I await a truly ENJOYABLE messaging client for WM. In light of the fact that Android and iPhone OS apps seem to have so much more finger friendly and snappy apps (Nimbuzz on the iPhone is a lot nicer to use). I hope that the new year will bring with it a plethora of non-clunky, smooth and lovely apps to rival those of other OS's. Apps such as TouchTwit are a step in the right direction fo' sho'.
Hi!
I did it!
Thank you luxxa. I had this problem too and your post prompted me to try a solution. It was annoying me.
Folow the tip 64 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4935500&postcount=3 to exclude the Nimbuzz folder present in \My Documents\My Pictures\. (By the way, it's not really necessary to soft reset. You can just use Task Manager or something alike to restart only the program HTC Albums)
Open the photo albums list, select an album, and Set it as Favorite.
leoni1980, do you prefer Palringo over Nimbuzz? I tried to use it about one year ago, but I didn't understand its interface. Before I used to use Talkonaut, but it started to fail sometimes. Currently, I dare to say I like Nimbuzz. I just miss a finger scroll for it.
guys the problem is that the nimbuzz does not have a notification icon to notify if you have massage or missed call so you need to open it all the time to see if you have a massage and it only have a small beep sound
Palringo has the notification icon showing in the todayscreen if you have a massage but nimbuzz does not have this
that the only thing stopping me from using it
anyone have any solution for this ???
Nimbuzz has his advantages, for example supporting Skype..

but does not have a notification icon and cant run more that 1 msn account in the same time
And Nimbuzz collects as many personal data from you as it can get.
I would recommend to read their privacy statement. For people with a general privacy need it´s horror.
Anyone figured out how to login/logout of individual accounts. Whilst at work I prefer to have google talk on desktop and facebook & MSN on phone (nimbuzz).
I cant see anywhere in nimbuzz to logout of google talk but leave facebook and msn connected.
I much prefer Palringo but their facebook support is dodgy at best.

Looking for an App (associated to yahoo im)

Hi all is there an app which allows the user to video chat using yahoo messenger, making the 3g camera a type of webcam?
Not yet...
They've not cracked the video calling yet but I recommend Parlingo for Yahoo chat.
Also supports everyone else (except Skype, only nimbuz includes them)
Sorry buddy,
I have always liked IM+ it seems to handle all my needs with chatting, and again no video is with it, like most others out there...
But it handles all these AIM, MSN Messenger, Yahoo!, ICQ, Jabber, Google Talk, MySpace, Facebook and Twitter, I think they just added Skype as well.
The best thing about this company is that they have always honored their free upgrades, and Ive switched phones 4 times and they were very supportive with giving me new reg codes.
Only flaw is that it is not free, like the above mentioned Parlingo.
can you teach me step by step process to install onto mobile phone? i,ve extracted it, and some files is come out, then do what?where should i paste it? please help, thanks
IM+ has big problems with YM... I use OZIM found on the TMOUS apps sticky and its excellent...
Use fring. it offers chat, audio and video calls on all IMs.

Android 2.2 Cloud to Device Messaging

Hi, i am no dev, sorry if this is the wrong section, but i realized that inside of Android 2.2 sdk or something there is the new C2DM Service. Even Google says that it could work very well for instant messages like this:
C2DM makes no guarantees about delivery or the order of messages. So, for example, while you might use this feature to tell an instant messaging application that the user has new messages, you probably would not use it to pass the actual messages.
http://code.google.com/intl/de-DE/android/c2dm/index.html
i searched for an app, which uses C2DM for instant messaging for serveral IM networks like icq, msn etc, but didnt found anything... all the messengers like ebuddy, meebo etc don't use this new push notification which should save a lot of battery, if the device gets pushed about new messages and only than the devices download the message from the server
what do you think about it?
PS: sorry for my crap english
Hopefully this new service will solve all the issues we have with the current crop of instant messengers and their frequent disconnection. This is one feature I miss from my old iPhone
i guess most developers of messaging apps are already working hard to incorporate c2dm into their clients. since froyo is still verry young and there is only one device yet that is officially running it, the use for this would have been verry smale yet. but im sure in a few weeks we will have lots of messaging apps using this feature.
Thread moved to General.

new Google Talk in FroYo already uses C2DM, other messengers are likely to follow in several months as more phones get FroYo
How is life going? Froyo is about 6 months old, 36 % running Froyo, and the only C2DM-using apps I know are Whatsapp, Jumpnote and Chrome To Phone. I know Google is holding several C2DM presentations.
I'm still missing a IM-app, soccer scores app and so on. Are there any developers working on this? Or is it hard to obtain acces for Google C2DM?
Triilian im and beejive im are using c2dm
hi to all,
when you want to use googles cloud to device messaging ,you must still connected wifi or wakes wifi up when you recieve an message like Googlemail or Trillian Messenger?
thx
p.s.:sry for my bad english

[Q] push instant messaging

Are instant messengers available that work like push email.
For example rather then have a constant internet connection that eats battery life an app that only makes a connection to check if there's new messages just like push messaging
Do any app's like this exist and if they don't is it even possible to create something like this

I could be wrong, but it think this is something the IM service would have to incorporate into their service, & AFAIK, none of them do. Depending on your service, i would suggest setting up IM Forwarding. I know AIM allows messages to be forwarded to a cell phone once you sign off, not sure about others though.
I see so it would be similar to how the POP3 and IMAP features work with email
I wonder how much it will take to convince any IM company to incorporate these features

There is Whatsapp (Beta) available perhaps in a month for my opinion the best push messaging client. And pingchat this app is available just search with google.
