Hello people,
I am not sure if that is the appropriate section of the forums, so please excuse me if I am posted in the wrong one.
Does anyone of you know if there is an Android widget that could be set up to pull a random line from a txt file stored, say, on the SD card? I'm looking for something of the kind so that I could have random quotes on my home screen - but quotes of my liking.
If there is none, would it be difficult to create and is there anyone willing to take up the task?
Thanks in advance for your answers!
Haha, a fortune widget.
that would be a pretty cool thing to have

I don't know if this is what your are seeking for but there are some widgets for own text lines at your homescreen...
for example:
SIMPLE TEXT WIDGET

or

I would like a text system info widget with changeable fonts and sizes
haven't found any out there and thought it's a bit strange since almost everything else has a text based widget.
the functions i want can almost all be found in system info widget by Jason Calhoun
but i want it to be text based.
ram sd temp reboot etc...
172mb 652mb 28c
the option to change fonts, color, transparency, be click-able to take me to the corresponding function.
i thought if there's anywhere i could turn it was to the developers and users at XDA.
so nobody has thought of this before?
well heres to hopeing someone will pick upp on this idea
Some of those options (if not all) are in minimalistic text. Dev is here on xda, and also it's in the market.
Epic is as Epic does
Really? I didn't find those things, only battery time date weather. Or am in över seeing something?
Hello
Recently I became a fan of quote apps. So I looked through them and most of them didn't even have widgets or didn't look that beautiful.
What I am thinking of is a widget that has the style of minimalistic text widget and displays quotes. (custom quotes would be best)
So I am just trying to find a widget that shows quotes as plain white text. Does something like that already exist?

Click to collapse
Minimalist text already exists, lol. You do know that you can put in custom text and design it any way you want, right? Go to custom, scroll over to misc., drop a static text button into the field, click on button, input text, input size of text, back out, scroll down, change font/color/etc...
you can use Tasker to parse an online source of quotes and dynamically update a minimalistic text widget at a set interval.
You could always try brilliant quotes.

I'm aware of the fact that minimalistic text widget already exists but not for quotes. I could enter static text, but then the quote would stay the same forever.
Brilliant quotes unfortunately crashes all the time on my phone...plus it doesn't support custom quotes.
I still need to have a look at tasker tough.
Thanks a lot for your suggestions!

I have seen various tutorials on how to create the black bars/hub theme, however the ones I have seen if you click the home or media bar it doesnt take you to that screen. I have only seen this with the widgets and simple text setup. My question is, is there a way to have the black bars you create with minimalistic text go to the page/homescreen you create it for? If so does someone have a link on how to do this or can you explain how? I tried searching forums and have watched a bunch of youtube videos but I am not seeing exactly what I am looking for above.
Thanks in advance.
Hi, could anybody point me in the direction of learning how to make homescreen applications links/shortcuts in the form of text with icons? I am aware of how to use Simple Text to create purely text icons, but that only works to create icons that are 1x1 - whereas the most shortcuts with icons and text are more like 1x3. Attached is an image of what I am trying to achieve, I've searched high and low both on here and on google, but can't seem to find any instruction on how to do it. Thanks in advance.
Also, first post. Hi.

Looks like minimalistic text widget...
Can't be certain as you can layout and configure practically all elements but if its not, you should be able to achieve the same look.
