Impressions
Since people are now getting their hands on the phone, please post your impressions in this thread.
Phone is very very responsive
Screen is crystal clear and almost as good as the Vibrant IMO
Camera = awesome flash times perfectly
Qik video chat works great
Gets great signal by me better then vibrant and g2 the phone feels extremely sturdy very well made. The buttons run perfect with the phone to they dont stick out or cause the alignment to shift while using them.
Trackpad is extremely responsive not only that but it wakes the device as well. Web is very fast seems to render the page better then the g2 speedtests come back the same though.
My impression... This phone has farrrrr surpassed any expectations that I had before using it. The way the phone looks, feels, and especially performs is phenomenal.
Oh yea, and I cant believe I forgot, I really dont have words to accurately describe how f'ng AMAZING the HSPA+ speeds are!
Do you get better HSPA+ speeds on the myTouch than the G2? On the G2 HSPA+ has been pretty lackluster so far.
Im getting stronger signal then before where I would drop off of H and go to EDGE now I am holding on H much longer.
6 to 7 mb/s and the closest tower is only about 500 meters from me. I constantly achieve those speeds on both devices. I'd say that they're rather equal as far a Ookla and their test apps are concerned.

as a vibrant owner, I have to ask: how is the GPS? could someone please post some results? (screenshot please)
The GPS has proved accurate enough for geocaching. It also aquires your position and fires up Google Maps rediculously fast!
Sorry. The XDA app doesn't let you post .png files from your phone

I agree so far. Coming from a vibrant I can launch navigation while driving and it will lock and load results before I get from one intersection to the other; about 5-10 sec for gps lock and another 5-20 sec for download.
As for the use of the phone I am only disappointed in two areas. Weight and lack of a decent keyboard. It is super heavy when comparing it to the vibrant and other full touch models; possibly even more than the hd2. And the keyboard selection only has the swype, dragon, and touch input options. I miss the stock Android keyboard.

Do they currently have tethering and WiFi hotspot locked down?
TMo has announced these services for a separate fee on the official release date of this device on Nov. 3 - coincidence?

I have used the Wifi hotspot with not issues but I am yet to try the tethering. Frankly I don't understand how T-Mobile could lock it down. Also there are instructions on how to tether as well as the drivers for the phone, installed on the memory card. Kind of caught me off guard.

You know, the beauty of Android is that you can download anything you want on it. I suggest HTC_IME (search XDA for that) which is awesome VK with more options then you ever need. If you want stock VK, just rip LatinIME.apk from any froyo rom and install it like any other app.
Good luck. (yes, I'm jealous)

Yeah, but recent HTC phones haven't had the greatest quality from their cameras/camcorders. The galaxy s line and iphone 4 have excellent quality from their cameras/camcorders.

just rooted my buddies epic, which was definitely not as smooth as the captivate, and got to play around with it for a bit. i have to say, not impressed. feels like a big bulky clunker. not as refined as the captivate and is really a pain in the ass to root. tinkering with the epic made me appreciate my captivate that much more.
anyways just my short story of the day..
Thanks for sharing.
Can you give an example of how the phone was not smooth plz. Everyone else says that its smoother stock than the captivate
Sent from my phone so excuse the spelling errors
the process to root the phone is what i was referring to as not as smooth as our phones. there is a "one click" root for the epic but it took multiple tries to get the
1 click program to even see the phone and then once it saw the phone it was another issue to get the root over to the phone. not an easy update.zip like our phones.
the speed of the phone felt the same as the captivate stock vs. stock. once the dev's get a good root package down for the epic it will be better.
one other thing i didn't like about the epic is that there is no way to change what shortcuts you have running in the touchwiz tray. its the little things i guess.

You still can't move applications around? That's trippy. lol
nope, you dont even have that option. when you press menu in the app drawer you get the choice to list or grid. i am thinking it has something to do with the keyboard? i dont know.

it is noticeably heavier than my captivate with the body glove case on it. also the battery cover that it uses is SO cheap. its one piece of very thin plastic that clips on to the back with some really weak clips. i pulled the cover off of his phone with my non existent fingernails with great ease.
EPIC is stuck with an older version of TouchWiz 2.5 and lacks quite a few features TW 3 has on Captivate. The reason is because of the required landscape support for home screen when keyboard slids out.
Why not bake in landscape support on 3.0? Is it that radically different?

Well uh, I love my Captivate, but lets face it, Samsung hasn't exactly gone the extra mile on these phones.
That's how they get released with things like GPS issues or the lag troubles, etc. (Or the slower 2.2 upgrades.) Could Samsung have built in landscape on 3.0 and make it work with a not unreasonable amount of effort? Absolutely. Did they have to move units? Obviously not. So did they? Nope.

EPIC is the first slider in Galaxy S line. Samsung could wait 6 more months (or even more) to add landscape support in TW 3.0 or release the phone now and sell millions. It's a no brainer.

While that may be true, it didn't take them years to release landscape mode in subsequent releases. If Samsung has figured out landscape in a previous version, I find it a little hard to believe it would have been more than a couple weeks to port it over.
Its not like Samsung's QC is super high. If they ported it and FUBAR'd yet another thing its not like many people would have been surprised.
Then again, im not a programmer, so maybe my POV is unrealistic and skewed.

I see all issues and little praise. Is there any happy stories to tell?
Edit: It would seem a lot of people with success did a similar set up.
Don't skip the initial set up. ....
Reset the phone at least once after you've completed set up.
Should be butter.
Let me suggest Adw ex. It makes this phone butter smooth and is a way better interface.
So far I love my phone. Glad to have found a vanilla dual core so quickly.
I've thought about the sensation. But I would just run the same thing on that and have to deal with HTC sense.
Once the themes come and we get the notification bar power widget things couldn't get better.
At least thus far.

LOVE ITTTTTT
I just came from a Nexus One and must say this phone ROCKS it.
Reason you are seeing complaints more than praise is because the people that aren't having problems are too busy playing with their phones
Yeah I LOVE this phone. I have had 0 issues with it so far, and it's very fast. I am coming from a nexus s. I think it will especially be awesome once we get a working recovery and some gingerbread cm love on here if I had to complain about something it would be the ideal wish the battery life was a little better but I have only had the phone for a day and i've been using the crappie out of it so I am sure once the battery cycles and few times it will be fine. It's not horrible. I also like the screen better then the samoled screens, maybe I just like it because it's different
Edit I almost forot, I have wifi calling back which I didn't have on the nexus, another plus. Wifi holds great signal also

Love mine too! No issues at all!
Exactly that's why I created this poll

Nexus One to G2X has been a bit of a change, but so far it's mostly for the better.
I'll be sure to vote in the poll if any issue pop up, but so far it's dy-no-mite!
Samsung Fascinate to G2X. LOVE the G2X. I think the lcd bleed issues are being way overblown.

This phone is super nice and works perfect not one problem here
I loved my N1 but this phone is way better .....
I tested it out at the T-Mobile store today. It is awesome! I just got my MT4G few months ago...
Nexus One to G2x. Overall I am satisfied. There are a few quirks but nothing major. Mostly things that can be fixed through software... like my email signature won't save... keeps resorting to the default Tmobile blurb.
Really the worst thing so far is it requires drivers to see the internal and SD storage. Not a bog deal bit can suck if you just need to copy something real quick from a foreign PC.
Getting used to typing on a 4" display throws my typing off. Ill get used to it though. And wiimote doesn't find the Bluetooth stack yet.
Little things but pretty slick overall. Screen is bright and responsive. A good upgrade from my N1. I don't miss the trackball like I thought I would.
G2X is a great phone. Most people that are having issues also have a very small understanding of Android and computers.
I think you can count @cyanogen as one happy G2X owner.

"The G2X is insanely fast. I like it so far. Not much crapware by default either. Nice job @tmobile "
http://twitter.com/#!/cyanogen/status/60764429117165568
"@andrewmartonik it's just a nice clean Google-ish build by default. no fancy skins or crapware."
Got the g2x and its awesome, the problem I noticed right away is that it doesn't turn of the data service when turning on WIFI...

This phone has the best gps that I've ever seen in a phone. I stay in the 4g network more on this phone than any I've ever had. I still prefer HTC phones, but all in all, this phone is solid, and will remain relevant for quite some time.
I see alot of former nexus one users switching over to this phone. I would like to add myself to that list. This g2x is incredible. I love it, love it, love it. Cant wait till cm adds his little touch.

As you can see in my sig, I am on a Cappy with Gingerbread and a rom that is working magnificently. I have my Cappy setup exactly the way I like it and Netflix works like a charm. As a matter of fact, I am going on a business trip next week and look forward to chillin in the airport with my earbuds in watching a movie on the Cappy...
that said, I had really been looking forward to the Infuse. I was going to give it a week and pick it up tomorrow. Then I started browsing the new forum yesterday and noticed that some of you are reporting issues. Netflix also doesn't work. I was really looking forward to the front facing camera among other things... If I was to ask advice (and I would really like your advice), I would imagine some will tell me to just wait until an update comes out or the dev section really gets going. Any thoughts? Thanks for sharing.
I cant speak for the Cappy, but in the last 2 months I went from the iPhone 4, to the Atrix, to the Inspire, to the Infuse.
The Infuse is now my favorite phone that I have ever owned. It has the best of all of them combined.
Yes there are a few bugs, no there is no roms yet, but we all know that will come in the not far future. Get one now, and you'll get to enjoy it a little longer

Camera is very, very good. See engadget's review if u don't believe me.
GPS - flawless. When you're on the trip - ur cappy will make u furious driving around wasting time and getting tickets (been there, done that, sold that piece of ****)
Netflix - no idea, don't care
It's huge. Thing is a shovel, just attach a handle.
Screen - amazing, SAMOLED Plus, need I say more?
Battery life - so far crappy, but it's not broken in yet. Supposed to be better, since it's 1750mah.
Also, more RAM, enough to keep my Opera, couple of HD games and some apps open without need to reopen them when Android clears RAM.
Definite upgrade over craptivate. That phone was sweet, but non-existent GPS on it killed it for me. Stupid thing made me spend $$ driving around like an idiot.
Warning: I'm easily influenced by positive responses and may end up leaving for my business trip Monday with an Infuse in tow.
Just what I was looking for... Thanks for the responses thus far.

This is what makes me foam at the mouth. I played with an Infuse in the store yesterday and the 4G speed is ridiculous. Web pages just appear. The lack of a front facing cam is something that I thought should have landed the Cappy designers back behind the woodshed.

No Netflix no problem! Download the PlayOn app on your phone and PC. Free trial is 14 days, after its $4.99 a month. It automatically detects configuration on your pc allowing you to stream on 3g/4g. Best thing about playon is not only does it stream Netflix and and anything you want from your PC (music videos pics) it also has hulu integration! You can watch any hulu video just as you would in Netflix. Not thru a broswer but thru a deticated app. Quality is magnificient most hulu is in HD. There's even plugins so you can watch most network shows, NBC, FOX, CBS ect. Try it out! You won't be disappointed!

Good Choice!
I just got mine yesterday, i come from a Motorola Atrix 4G.
i can honestly say I LOVE THIS PHONE!
1. EYE CANDY! super slick and sexy. i would suggest a mirrored screen protector just for that mirror finish as the phone has gray chrome around it.
2. Massive screen. 4.5. i thought the HD2 was the biggest i would of ever gone. Super Amoled screen.
3. thinest smartphone. 'nough said.
4. it snappy, very snappy. i thought my atrix was fast with its dual core... this phone easily out paces the atrix in everyday use.
5. Touchwiz. the only custom UI that i have seen that does not slow down the phone like sense or motoblur.
6. 8MP camera. this phone carrier a really good lens on its back. i took dissection pictures of my cat at school. they look real nice. i would upload but idk the rules so yeah.
7. Long long battery life. well for me at least. this was under high usage texting music pictures and other stuff. words with friends... angry birds... you know.
thats pretty much it i guess. its a really good choice. and a really great phone. you will like it.

oh yeah true dat. hmmm idk who told me it had a qualcomm. oh well. same difference right?
it is too easy to get sucked into the rom frenzy with the cappy. and then the power of suggestion that the phone is laggy and such creates this striving for improvement constantly. i know i was there. my oppinion is that the cappy is not as bad as it is made out to be if you leave it basically stock. the infuse however doesnt the shortcomings of the cappy. it has both camera, a flash, unknown sources, bigger screen, better audio vs the cappy stock(slightly). same audio hardware, but better implimented or newer drivers. and the gps hardware is not marginalized. i have come to find out that tracking in google maps can be funky on any phone but with the cappys hardware it was a nightare untill you got the jupiter.xml all corrected and played with the settings.
the infuse is good out of the box but after putting some of my known good settings from the captivate in it was great. but then after trying agps settings full time it was phenomenal! this really is the best gps i have seen. it seems the hardware layout is changed. the gps seems to work during phone calls(didnt on the cappy, god forbid you are driving and someone calls you) as does the camera.
i got laughed at when i complained about photos in phone calls in the captivate section no one would work on it, now id bet it is a hardware limitation. now if im on speaker phone with someone who doesnt have video calling i can just text them pictures
I love my TB but there is one thin about it that bugs me. Comparing screen responsiveness when comparing to an iPhone the iPhone feels to be an exact immediate response when you drag a screen up or down or home screen left or right. The TB seems to take a little bit of dragging before it recognizes it. And in apps as well. When im scrolling in twitter it just seems to take a bit more dragging. This doesn't seem like a hardware thing (meaning the TB isn't fast enough) but a stylistic choice by HTC maybe? Is there a way to make dragging faster? I don't want to increase sensitivity of selecting icons.

I'm not quite sure what you're talking about. Granted I'm on either cm7 or OMFGB, so I'm on gb aosp, my tb is totally responsive and not currently overclocked on either setup. Ios seems to have smoother transitions, but it's no more responsive per se than my tb.

It seems as if the tolerance to begin scrolling on the TB is higher than iOS. Of you swipe your finger left to right on the TB homescreen it has to drag about half a centimeter before you start pulling the screen. On iOS it seems as if it instanlty pulls it. Like I said earlier, I don't think it is a lack of phone power, but more a stylistic choice.

I noticed this too, it's one of the few things that bugged me when I came from my iPhone4. That and the FCs.
I also have problems with low responsiveness of the screen. Is there any way to boost it like in Ip4G or SSGII? Typing text on HD2 is very tiring as the number of mistakes and misspels due to microlags are great. I can type sms quite fast on Ip4G but on Hd2 it is a torture. Any idea, please?
Try

Try a different keyboard: SwiftKey X, Smart keyboard, Thumb Keyboard, Swype, SlideIt. All good choices.
I have no problems due to the so-called micro-lag.
Different keyboards are def affected differently. I would try a bunch.

Swift Key X is awesome!
And I'm on CM7 and everything seems to scroll beautifully.
Although I use SwiftKey X often, I have used Swype since day 1. I don't know how I would live without it now. I am able to use Swype deftly with my thumb. And that is the thumb on the hand that is holding the phone! (SlideIt, and FlexT9 work the same as Swype)
I also love the fact that with Android, you can switch keyboards quickly, without leaving the app you are in.
This is for the myTouch 4G Slide!
This is an amazing phone! I will definitely get one of these to replace my Desire Z
Looking forward to replacing my HTC Glacier
Me too! 10 char
Curious
I am thinking about buying this phone but being that's its so new... im skeptical. the reason being i want to know if i can add wifi hotspot to this phone after its been rooted
Even before being rooted you can do the wifi hotspot works like a charm!
Ill just let yall know. I have the mt4gs. It is sick. The keyboard is awesome, camera is awesome, no s-off yet but in due time it will come. Wicked fast. As soon as i turned it on i installed quadrant and it ran a 1995 right out of the box. Not bad. Imagine when we are able to overclock this bad boy. This phone has alot of potential. The only downside is that it is a little heavy. But you get used to the weight after holding it for a few minutes. Overall, im glad i picked this phone. Peace.

I love how heavy this phone. I feel like i can break other phones lol.
Agreed, I like at least a little bit of heft, otherwise the phone feels flimsy. I think this one is just fine considering it is a slider.
This is the best smartphone i've ever fked with. The photos are incredible. Operations are snappy ofr course.

I also really like the default rom with rotating rosie and 5 change able icons in the dock.
camera app is awesome .
also filming in full hd looks pretty well

You dont have to use a hacked wifi hotspot. The stock one works. My wife works for tmobile and they tell you that there is a fee. But you can use it without the hotspot plan.

Yea man, it's almost unbelievable what you can throw at this phone and it still just keeps chugging away doing it's thing.
I've been impressed with it since before I got it, and since getting one it's exceeded all my lofty expectations.
Quite a few times i've been using it, and then when I slid out the keyboard surprised people by that, guess they weren't expecting that after seeing what I was doing with it.
I've been running around plugging it into televisions and playing movies at peoples houses and stuff which is pretty killer. Just about everyone i've met who casually owns an android phone and doesn't get into it like we do here has said "let me try that" and plugged my video cable into their headphones jack...but of course, no dice for them.
One thing i've noticed, after stopping in to just about every T-Mobile store around my area is that most reps have this phone, either in khaki or black. (i'm glad I have a black one though, don't quite like the look of the khaki).
All in all - probably the most impressive piece of hardware on the market at the moment, and has held up pretty well to some demanding field tests.
Can't say enough how much I like the phone - digging into it and running it through the ringer has become an almost around the clock obsession since root became available.
I've already gotten a few people in the process of switching over to T-Mobile just to get this phone, but the darned thing sells itself in all of it's awesomeness.
I like this phone more so than my sensation, mainly for its size and good picture ability. The sensation has a good camera too though, but the MT4GS's is a lot better and i like the dedicated button to take pictures. The build quality of this phone is nice too, it reminds me of what my Touch Pro 2 could have been with more ram and a better cpu.
