(Not sure if this is the correct sub-forum to ask, but here goes)
Has there been a fix for the old "Starting Download" issue on the Android Market? I still can't download anything from it. I know that resetting my phone will work (for a while), but it's not an option right now. Any help?
P.S. I've searched the forum as well and was not able to find a concrete answer.
I was told that starting Google Talk should make sure you're logged in to Google's server, which is (supposedly) what causes that problem.

Hmm, I tried that but I'm already logged in
That issue has haunted me for a while - I get a cold sweat anytime a download start takes longer than usual.
I personally don't believe it's an issue with your device (as I've seen some argue it to be), rather it's with your gmail account. When a factory reset didn't fix my problem, I went to a tmobile store where my buddy works, and we put my sim card into every android device he had (mt3g, mts, garmin, and one other I can't remember), only to find that none would allow me to download.
For me the workaround I'm currently using is to set up the device with another gmail account newly created for the purpose of being able to download apps, then set up my "real" gmail (the one I actually use) to sync my contacts and calendar. The only problem is that I can't use my real gmail on gchat, since that only signs into the primary account you used when setting up the device. I don't use gchat much on my phone anyway, so it wasn't that big of a deal.
I suppose it's possible my phone corrupted my account somehow, but I had deleted caches, updates, and anything else I'd heard had worked for others, but to no avail. If you get to the bottom of the problem, be sure to let me know.
Good luck!

Hi! Thanks for the tip but as it turns out - I can't even add another account It always produce an error saying "can't establish connection". Any idea why this is the case?
The "Starting Download" issue for me, was unfixable and related to my google account. I created a new one and it worked flawlessly.

Hmm...that sounds like a connectivity issue and not a problem with the device. I'd say reboot your phone and try again.
Just to be clear, I created a new gmail address and used that during the initial setup of the phone (after a factory reset of course), then went to settings> accounts and sync> select add account and entered the old gmail I've used forever (which is why just ditching it and using the new one wasn't an option - I didn't want to bother notifying everyone I had a new email).
You'll see that you only have the option to sync contacts and gmail with a secondary gmail address - not calendar. To get around this (since my old gmail is the calendar I want to sync), set up the new gmail to share calendars w/ the old one. Once that's done, you'll see in your calendar app settings on the phone the option to sync the old gmail calendar and not the new one.
Hope that made sense! It's really not difficult to do - just annoying that it has to be done at all. I wish someone would figure out why some gmail accounts get stuck at starting download. What a pain.
I had this problem for awhile, but it was because I was task killing Google Talk. When I disabled the task killer it worked fine.
I read a few comments on the help community in the market to go to applications, manage apps, select the market then uninstall updates. This worked for a while but very intermittent. Worth a go though

I generally just wait, I believe it's a server issue...I eventually get the download but, yeah, I wait and then go back to the store and attempt to start the download again...and that seems to work.

Yes downloading from the market is related to the Google Talk app. I once deleted it from /system and it did the same thing.

Thanks for all of the replies. I know of the delete Market update solution but when I browse for Market in the Manage Application screen, I never see the "update" portion there. Any other tips?

Hello,
I'm fairly new to android and have been playing with RCMix's ICS ROMs, I'm currently running v3.2 which is Android 4.0.3 with HTC Sense 4.0.3.
I seem to have found that push notifications do no work, namely:
* Apps purchased from the market website do not get installed on the device. (although now my device does not show in the market website - related?)
* Androidlost.com works fine if you manually fetch messages or set it to poll, but the (C2DM?) messages do not get to the device if left alone. NB, the tests that are available within Androidlost all come back OK, so the device is registered correctly.
* Facebook messages (and Facebook Messenger) are not pushed, but are there if I log into Facebook or Messenger.
* Pushed emails using either the standard HTC Mail app and Exchange Activesync or the GMail app. If you set the mail to be polled every 15 mins then new mail is received correctly.
Would this be expected behaviour for a leaked/beta ROM hence me not being able to find much information about it?
Is this a known problem with these ROMs? (I cannot find any particular reference to it on here or using google)
If the answer to these two questions is no, where should I be looking to try to rectify this?
Thanks
Chris
Having said that all the tests from androidlost come back OK I have just upgraded to the new version (2.17) which has more tests! Now it comes back with:
"Test no: 9
Sending push command from server
COULD NOT RECEIVE GOOGLE PUSH MESSAGE"
Update 2...
Phone now appears under list of devices on the Market Website.
I deleted my Google account from Settings > Accounts & Sync, then cleared the data from Google Services Framework in Settings > Applications
Then re-added the account under Settings > Accounts & Sync. I can also now remotely install apps from the market website.
All other problems still exist though...
Making progress....
Update 3 - Fixed, by doing the following:
Delete Google account.
Clear data from Google Services Framework.
Re-setup google account.
Uninstall Android Lost from the app (under advanced).
Re-Install Android Lost.
Open Android Lost
(Still does not work at this stage - Trouble shooter reports it has
picked up my work email address not by Google one)
Re-register Android Lost (under advanced).
Hey presto - it works! - and so does everything else
Hope this helps someone else in future!
Chris
Hello,
My girlfriend's Desire S got the upgrade to Google Play market but it doesn't work anymore. I also tried to remove the upgrade but the issue is still present.
This is strange because I have the Desire S too, with the same ROM and configuration, but I didn't have such problem with the market that has been flawlessly upgraded.
The problem is that when I launch Google Play, or the Market 3.4.4 after the downgrade, it asks for a new Gmail account.
Something like: "To continue you have to add an account to the device. Add one now?" (Yes or No).
Of course if I say No, the Market quits.
If I answer Yes, it prompts for a new Google Account setup (note that the google account is already set up). Then I tap on Access (I already have an account and I don't want to create a new one) and once I try to login with my account it says that the account is already present on the device.
At this point I don't know what to do.
Already tried to reboot the phone and to clear data into Settings->Applications->Manage Applications->Market. But still no success.
What to do?
I've also cleaned the dalvik cache but nothing.
EDIT: Sorry, but I found out that my girlfriend made a wrong PDroid configuration, disabling all permissions to the Marked. I reinstalled the 3.4.7 Google Play version and now all works good.
I hope this could help someone else.
Today Google + and Google Play app downloads have stopped working right. It will no longer sign into G+, I get a warning that it can't communicate with the server. For the Play apps download issue, I can log into the the Play store and see my current apps and search for new ones but it won't download a new app through the phone or sending it from my online account on my PC. I've cleared the data for both apps, tried force stopping, restarting the phone, hard reset and still no luck. All other Google apps are working fine and the phone itself is working fine so I don't know why these two apps are giving me issues. I have a 100% stock NS4G. Any help would be great.
i had the same problem after the 4.1.2 update to rectify this i deleted my google account from my phone then rebooted it and added my google account back to the phone, after that i was able to download and update apps again, i don't use google+ but i would imagine the above procedure would sort that issue out as well
Hello!
So today in classone of my classmates found out how to download and install any apps on my and my friends Nexus 5 without we knowing it or allowing it.
The only information I gatherd from interrogating him are listed here:
I did "95%" of the work myself by logging in with my google account on my phone
it is done via PC
it has something to do with google play account and connecting to google gmail
EDIT:
it can be done for every phone but he choose this one
it was all on one site, no download
if anyone know how to do it or how to stop someone from doing this please replay ASAP.
Thanks!
To put it simply,
Your classmate likely knows your google account (gmail) password.
By knowing this they can easily log into the play store using your account from a PC and push (install) any app to any device on your account.
Change your password ASAP !

That is no magic trick and certainly no hack or bug.
Your Phone is linked to your Google account, so when you are logged in with your Google account on a PC then you will be able to install Apps from the playstore to any phone that is linked to the same Google account.
Don't let other people play around with your Google account!!!!
And if you're not sure if your classmate saw your password then change it ASAP and to be sure enable 2 step authentication in your Google account.
