[Q] Why is making a back-up image so difficult?! - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

After about 4 hours of online searching, the closest i got to backing up my rooted Milestone was un-successfully trying to enter clockwork recovery only to see my milestone starting to load it, then restarting and loading the operating system.
rom manager says that clockwork recovery is istalled but fails to enter it.
and please dont offer droidroothelper, im sick of reading about it but being unable to use it since the "tools" file was removed from mediafire and there is nowhere to download it from.
please advise, this is getting annoying.

anyone? comon guys..

a day later and still nothing?, can i gather from this that there is no way for some one with a milestone to back up his phone?
thanks alot XDA.

This tells me you basically deleted some system applications that support the Google applications like Gmail, Calendar, etc. Not a good thing lol. Next time when you are deleting "bloatware," don't delete anything that starts with com.google or com.system. These are the packages that help run android and google applications.
Incidently, Do you know what adb is? If so, have you ever used it?
ive seen adb when i ran superoneclick im tryin to learn all this i use to have an iphone and hackin that is pie compared to this cause there is so many android phones
Try Factory Reset

Don't worry, the initial rooting process is the hardest part. After that, it only gets easier. Then you can put on whatever custom ROM you want and trust me, its awesome!
Anyway, I don't think you need to use adb juuust yet. Did you try to get to recovery mode yet and try to factory reset the phone?
To get to recovery mode on your Samsung Intercept, you hold, all these buttons at the same time, for a few seconds:
Volume Down, Call, and End buttons.
This will either bring you to recovery mode or have an option for recovery mode. Once there, there will be a setting to factory reset your phone. It will say something along the lines of "Wipe Data/Factory Reset" It won't delete anything on your SD card but wipes out all your apps and restores it to when you first used it.
yea i did that and the stuffs still missing : / im tryng to use the sw update to re install stock 2.1 but i keep getting "cannot open .bin file"
I had that problem too. What i did is connect my phone with samsung kies and that restored evrything back for me.
May that not help, try to flash it back with original firmware using odin
just search on this forum
This is the site that contains evry firmware of evry samsung phone:
samfirmware.com
you only have to register
i dont see my phone in the android section
I'm not having any luck with this... nothing seems to work

Don't fret. You haven't bricked your phone yet.
Ok. I checked to see if any forum or site was hosting the original signed zip of the OS that came with your phone and I couldn't find any.
I have an idea though. Not sure if it might work but theoretically it should. Although your phone WAS rooted (aka. temporary root), its not anymore which means you don't have any custom firmware and are running stock.
IF you updated your phone to 2.2 froyo with the official update, then it should completely replace the OS and not only reverse the damage but upgrade it as well.
So you take the phone, put it into "Recovery Mode," and then use adb to push this zip (link below) on to the ROOT OF THE SDCARD. not anywhere else!
then in the recovery, select the "flash/update zip" option and select the new zip.
In theory, this should work. Cannot be sure so tread with caution!
Here is the link:
http://02ee24b.netsolhost.com/downloads/crowder/update.zip
This is the full article that explains how to root your phone after:
http://www.crawfordium.com/blog/?p=22
Best of Luck!!
Thanks I'll try it out
I got this "E:Error in /sdcard/update.zip (Status 7) Installation aborted. I tried formatting the sdcard and redoing it but i got same message again I also tried going into superoneclick and hitting unroot and it says its unrooted but i still get the (status 7) message :/
and the sw upgrade says cannont open .bin file
This might work!
I was reading through some Samsung Intercept forums for you and this looks promising:
http://forum.sdx-developers.com/int...e-to-froyo-2-2-with-no-baseband-modification/
Go through the first three steps and flash the stock 2.1 on to your phone and it should be restored to basic regular Android 2.1. It IS sprint's stock 2.1 for intercept not Virgin Mobile's but its ok because it doesn't replace Virgin Mobile's Baseband so its fine. Instead of seeing the Virgin Mobile boot up screen, it will show you a sprint boot up screen. No biggie.
Try it and tell me how it goes. remember to follow instructions carefully and to the tee.
OK NOW IM ON SPRINT 2.1 and my number works and now im going to try upgrading to 2.2 show i try doing it over the air or just do it manually?
i just did it manually now im going to try to root it
now how do i get superuser and all that good stuff with the roms i dont like the slapstick 1.4

need help booting roms feel like going in circles. cwm3

First delete everything to do with rom manager, second download krylon360 clockworkmod final, third push the recovery to system/bin do not delete original recovery just over write it, and finally put update.zip on the root of sd card. Them power off phone hold volume up and down press power when in recovery select reinstall packages and clockworkmod will load up.
EDIT: rom manager has issues with galaxy s 4g.

thanks i figured it out. i was using linda file manager. i then used another one in the market thats under root explorer. i got it to overwrite correctly. thanks alot! its now orange and currently backing up my system.
when you get a chance, flash the bali 3+ kernels too. will make handling cwm easier because it keeps your mounts and you no longer need the update.zip

[Q] custom ROM wont install help please.

hello everyone,
I am new to Android and this is my 1st post on this web site. I would like to start off by saying everyone has done a great job with providing such a vast amount of information on one web page.
My question was, everytime that I try to install a custom rom I will go into recovery mode and it always tells me that it cant mount sd card. I have tried everything from removing the root and re rooting to formatting the sd. I have had my phone for about 3 weeks and it has been rooted since day one. However, not once have I been able to install a custom ROM.
ny help would be great thank you.

is this stock recovery? (blue, says "3e" at the top) if so that's weird, it would normally give a signature verification error if you did something wrong. it shouldnt have any trouble with the sdcard mounting.
do you have clockwork mod recovery installed? by which method? (custom kernel, rom manager) what color is the text? (red, green, orange)
I used the clockwork recovery in rom manager. And when I go into recovery mode it is all orange.
would I be better off wiping everything and starting over?

[Q] Cwm says can't open su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed root zip Bad

Hi All, Yes i am a noob and this is my first post. i have read all previous posts regarding this matter but havn't been able to find anything. I have managed to S-Off my phone (Hboot 1.17.1111) through revolutionary and put Cwm 4.1.0.4 on it but when i try to flasn su-2.3.6.3 Zip it says, finding, opening, then Can't open/sdcard/su-etc.zip (bad) Installation Aborted
I have tried downloading zip from different locations and latest ones but to no avail.
Any ideas Please.
My phone is Taiwan model dose this make any difference?
Cheers.
Try to flash it again.
I've had the same problem but after insisting a 2nd time, the flash was Ok.
Supertool V3 works wonders!
Hi, Thanks for your advice, i tried it 10 times and still nothing! I read lots of posts on other forums etc people having same prob but no one seems to know what the prob is. Anyways i found this Supertool V3 program you run on your computer plug in your phone and prees a enter and it does it all for you the whole kit and kaboodle and it worked first time.
Yay, i am now rooted.
Cheers,
10 times
I didn't know this tool so I couldn't advise you to use it....But if that's good now, excellent for you !!!
Why not use the latest version of Superuser as opposed to that ancient build...
http://goo-inside.me/superuser/Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip
First off, do this.
Second, the problem you're having is likely because the su.zip file you're trying to flash is bad. Just because you downloaded it doesn't mean you got a clean copy. Files get corrupted during the download process or in the transfer to your SD card.
CWM is basically saying "Look dude, this file isn't going to do what you think its' going to do so I'm not going to install it and eff up your phone. You're welcome!"
So again, get the newer version of SU linked above. And if you have this problem again with SU or anything in the future, the first thing to do is get a fresh copy of the file and start over.
I tried both methods above but my GT-P1000 reboots to cwm recovery. Tried wiping data etc.
Can anyone help please?

nextbook 7 tablet bootlooped

Hi I seriously need help with this asap! A while ago I installed a application from the google play store called clean master. In that app I tried to clean the junk files and I think it may have deleted my pre installed applications like the android system and home screen and all that important stuff... I was rooted and I've been trying for weeks to fix it but everything I try just fails and wont work... Im able to get into android system recovery 3e and I have tried to install a nextbook 7 rom zip file from ext sdcard and I always says installation aborted... I have actually talked to the clean master developers and they wont help me at all and the claim that clean junk files option only cleans junk files and they wont even help me... so im stuck in a bootloop and I cant figure out how to fix this... If you could help me out here that would be much appreciated ...
Thanks in advanced
First you need to know which nextbook 7 tablet that you have. if you have the nextbook 7p12-8g then you can get the modified recovery and pre-rooted rom from here: http://www.freaktab.com/showthread....P12-8G-Rooted-Stock-Rom-and-Modified-Recovery but if you have the other then im sure if you search though freaktabs website you'll be able to find the modified stock recovery for your tablet.

Oops sorry I thought it was a rom I will let you know if it was successful

I just double checked and I was wrong it is actually the next700t-8g but I've looked everywhere for a modified recovery for that model but I cant find one anywhere.
