I'm using LauncherPro, and have a gmail shortcut on the dock. It notifies me whenever I get a new mail in my inbox, but not for mails that are delivered under other labels. AFAIK, it's a limitation in the gmail app itself. Is there any other app that can do this? It needs to be an app, as widgets can't be placed on the dock. Thanks!

Would like the count unread app be able to pick your own icon, unlike the sms and gmail apps.
Still looking for a app that does this, anybody had any luck?
Waiting to see
HTC Sense has one built-in, but other than that, the only one I've ever found is the '1x1 Ultimate Unread Widget' and it costs $1 and requires root.
I've been searching for a far more customizable solution to no avail...

Cheers for the reply, but reading the reviews for 1x1 Ultimate Unread Widget i think i will give it a miss, but thats the basic grouds of what i am looking for, just have to wait and see if someone else finds one
SMS Unread Count also includes 1x1 widgets for email and is free. I used to use it for Gmail. On LPP so unread is now in the dock.

Yeah i know you can do it for gmail, but i'm looking to link another e-mail account sms unread count cant do this, and i would like to add my own icon, you can only pick from a few when you use this app.
Well, I'm using LauncherPRO plus and LauncherPRO gmail widget, with official gmail app with many labels (like Facebook notifications, messages etc). When I add gmail widget to any of my screens, and I go to gmail app and select a label, it just keeps syncing forever and uses data forever until I force close gmail app from app management. At this time widget keeps refreshing itself forever too. (loading icon appears and disappears 5 times in a second at bottom of the widget). Can anyone confirm this?
Tried clearing data for gmail. When I remove widget, everything is fine. Using sense (liberated) Rom on my aria.
P.S: inbox is fine, just have problem with labels and trash.

My brother has x10 and I just confirmed that same bug occurs in x10. How to reproduce bug:
- install LauncherPRO plus.
- add gmail widget (launcherpro widget)
- go gmail app and enter some label or folder (trash for example).
It just tries to sync forever.

Confirmed bug on captivate running Apex 7 update 1 (gb 2.3.4), as well as on cognition 5 beta 2 (gb 2.3.3).
It's pretty annoying.
Ok I have the G2x and I'm coming from the G2. Neither has the ability to display on the gmail mail icon how many unread emails you have.
I downloaded gmail unread count but it only allows 1 account to be accounted for. I've used the thunderbolt and that one keeps track of all your email accounts on one icon, anyone know of an app that can do the same thing?

Launcher pro has that feature built in

Thanks, ill give it a shot. Had launcherpro on my g2, but ended up going back to stock due to random crashes. I still have no idea why this isnt a default ability, im sure im not the only person with several gmail accounts and want to know I have unread email on my home screen.

https://market.android.com/details?id=com.kanokgems.smswidget&feature=search_result
It can be used for Messaging, Missed Calls, as well as Gmail
It is a "widget icon" which replaced the stock icon
Works great
The sms unread count as well as the gmail unread count widgets only work with 1 account. What I want is a single widget to handle multiple accounts at 1 time. So if I have an unread email in 2 email accounts the widget would display a 2 on the icon.
I dont want a widget for each email account

Has anyone tried freezing the mail app to use a different one? I use the Yahoo mail app, but both mail apps cause notifications. How can I get the standard mail app to stop, and can I move the Yahoo mail app to the dock?
I am guessing you are rooted! Use Taitanium back up to freeze the mail app, if that does not work than go to mail app and setting and disable notification. Plus to put yahoo app on the dock just press on icon in app drawer for couple second and when you get it to home screen just put it over the Gmail app.

He wants the app to be in the dock, not on the home screen, correct? In that case you need to go into app drawer, click Menu > View Type > Customizable Grid. Then click Menu > Edit, and press and hold on Yahoo and then drag It down to the dock. Then you can click Menu > View Type again and select Alphabetical if you want them to be ordered again.

Thanks. I disabled the notifications and then I replaced the mail app with Yahoo mail in the dock. I also saw that I could add a folder (another option I wanted). So I made a folder for all my frozen apps.
