Downgrading to hboot 0.75:
1. Tools needed:
1.1. Hex editor http://mh-nexus.de/en/hxd/
1.2. rooted desire
1.3. misc.img
1.4. attachment flash_image.zip (in german guide: http://www.android-hilfe.de/attachm...-how-rebrand-o2-desire-fertig-flash_image.zip )
2. creating misc.img
2.1. connect the desire to your pc and start a adb shell with:
----> adb shell
2.2. copy mtd0 to sdcard as misc.img
----> cat /dev/mtd/mtd0 > /sdcard/misc.img
3. edit misc.img
3.1. copy misc.img to your pc (or edit it directly on sdcard)
3.2. start a hex editor and open misc.img
3.3. in line 11 is the current version (example: 1.21.405.1)
3.4. change it to 1.15.405.1
3.5. save under a new name and copy it to sdcard
4. flash modified misc.img
4.1. download flash_image.zip, unzip and copy the content to the sdcard (attachment in german guide)
4.2. move via adb to the sdcard
----> cat /sdcard/flash_image > /data/flash_image
4.3. add execute bit
----> chmod 755 /data/flash_image
4.4. flash the modified image (don't forget to change name)
----> /data/flash_image misc /sdcard/misc-mod.img
(4.5. could need more than one try, seems there is no output on success)
5. applied the HTC Bravo WWE 1.15.405.4 RUU to unroot it: http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Bra...io_32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11_release_122704.exe
Now it shows hboot 0.75 in fastboot!

Rooting for hboot 0.92: http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-desire-desire-modaco-com/315594/root-slcd-hboot-0-92/
Do you not think this is pointless seeing as any HBOOT can be rooted? there is no need to downgrade and the other thread you posted this in was from August - things have moved on a lot since then...
Why would anyone downgrade to 0.75???
0.93 can be rooted easily with Unrevoked....
`´`´`´`´`´`´`´`´`´`´`´`´`´`´`´`´`´`´`´`´`´
Sent using XDA app from my Desire
For example with hboot 0.75 you can flash _ANY_ official ROM ( http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Bravo/ ) but with 0.92 you can't (error: wrong bootloader version).
But why would you want to go back to Android 2.1? So long as you can get an RUU for YOUR operator you can go back to stock for warranty purposes
Going back to 0.75 is just not needed any more

Yeah but those are like 3-4 months old, and thus not that relevant anymore...
But if this helps anyone, so be it... I don't see the point, as the new tools that are from August, works fine with those hboot.
Thanks for posting. Looks useful to me, I'm not aware of another way to revert branded phones to stock when a Froyo RUU for the phone's operator is not available.
FOUND SOLUTION TO DOWNGRADE 2.2 w HBOOT 093 to stock 2.1 HBOOT .083
Ok I am no expert but I found a simple solution.
I am new to these boards and I am even new to the Android platform. I just love technology and in my spare time try to hack into all my gadgets.
I have three files that you need to download.
Update.zip is to be downloaded to you SD Card.
The other two zip file you need to extract somewhere you can easily find.
These files are .img files you will need to flash onto your HTC Desire using unrevoked.
Step 1.
Flash the misc.img
Step 2.
Flash the recovery-RA-desire-v1.7.0.1-R5.1.img file. The HTC Desire will cycle through rooting process and your phone will reboot in recovery mode that has a flashing option.
Step 3.
Scroll down and press the FLASH option. Select the update.zip file that you downloaded to your SD Card. IMPORTANT. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT HAVE ANY OTHER FILE ON SD CARD called update.zip.
Step 4.
Once you flash the update.zip file just reboot the phone as normal. This process now allows you to install the factory ROM with desired HBOOT.
Step 5.
Unzip the HTC ROM Updater .exe and run the HTC program with your phone plugged in via USB. If you encounter any issues try unplugging the phone and reboot in bootloader and then plug phone back via usb make sure you have the phone on fastboot usb mode then run the HTC ROM Updater program.
I tried to upload the original ROM for my phone but file too big. Sorry.
I have the HTC Desire Telstra A8183 and I can only attest to this working on my phone. I hope that others have the same luck as I did.
Let me know how it goes. If you have any questions, I'm not an expert but certainly will respond. GOOD LUCK.

Worked brilliantly, was having so much pain trying to get from 0.93 debranded back to a Tmobile stock image.
Used this to 0.75, then stock TMOB image straight on top, easy!
Desire now off to T-Mobile for overheat repair!
Job done!

I know, but first it's nice to know what is possible and second, i wanted to know again how Eclair was feeling. Quite good I must say.
I'm just completing the last OTA by the way.
So back on stock unrooted FroYo 2.29
edit: oh, there's another update, 2.29.405.5
Gonna root it now and mod it here and there. Then make a nandroid, s-off, then restore...

Hi guys.
I know that the various aspects of this post are covered in other posts, but I haven't seen anything that acts like a step by step or repository for this info.
Basically, I have a VodafoneAU HTC Magic with 1.5 on it, and I'd like to flash on it one of the Hero roms. I used to have a Diamond and then Diamond Pro, but I know little about Android at this point.
My biggest fear is bricking the phone, followed by not being able to restore my previous rom (and even apps and settings would be awesome too, though not essential) should something go pear shaped.
I know the steps I need to follow are:
1 - Root the phone
2 - Back up ROM (settings/apps too?)
3 - Flash new ROM
4 - ?????
5 - Profit (in the form of enjoying an awesome Hero ROM)
Jokes aside, if someone can point me in the right direction for the first 3 steps, that'd be great. Even if it's as simple as
1 - Root it using this post (link)
2 - Use this App to back it up
3 - etc..
Like I said, I know this info is probably covered elsewhere, but not in one place (that I've found) and I'd hope this post could serve as a guide for anyone else looking to go the same steps as me.
Thanks for any help anyone can give.
Cheers.
First off, you don't need to root your phone, update the SPL, or any of that scary stuff. Which is great, cus that's the riskiest part of it all. Briefly, the procedure is as follows:
1. Boot your phone in fastboot mode (power the phone off, then hold the back button as you power it back on). You'll see a white screen with some text, the word "FASTBOOT" and some androids at the bottom.
2. Note the version numbers you see at the top of the screen - it'll look something like:
SAPPHIRE PVT 32A SHIP S-ON H
HBOOT-1.3300.0009 (SAPP10000)
CPLD-12
RADIO-3.22.20.17
3. Download the ROM you want to upgrade to for your phone's version, rename the zip to update.zip and put it on the root of your phone's SD card
4. Boot a recovery ROM using fastboot (from the Android SDK)
5. Use Nandroid Backup to back up your current firmware to the SD card
6. Copy that backup (and the rest of the contents of your SD card) to your PC, just in case. This is the last point at which you can back out!
7. Use the recovery ROM to wipe your phone's existing firmware
8. Use the recovery ROM to apply the update.zip from the SD card
9. Wait for the update to complete
10. Reboot your phone and enjoy your new ROM!
I did this on my Vodafone NZ HTC Magic (PVT32B) running 1.5 yesterday and am enjoying Hero on it right now, barring a few quirks. If you like, I'll put together a detailed step-by-step of the procedure.

Awesome, cheers. I'll have a crack at it tonight then.
So Am I correct then in assuming step 5 backs up my phone as it is now? So essentially if I roll back it will be exactly as it was? Installed apps, settings, contacts (although sync sorts that out) and all?

Nope. Nandroid only backs up the existing firmware (and I believe some settings). It doesn't back up texts, contacts (though those should be synced with your Google Account anyway), or apps. For the most part, apps are easy to retrieve from the Market, but if you have any you got from elsewhere you'll need to reacquire them. The app MyBackup Pro seems to be recommended on these forums for more thorough backups, though it isn't free (and I've not used it myself). As my phone was (relatively) new I wasn't too fussed about keeping backups of anything except the firmware.
I've done a couple of Nandroid backups and restores and it restores everything (except SD card), meaning applications, settings, everything is restored.
Also, I highly recommend RAv's recovery (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=530492). Use it to make your Nandroid backup .

I've heard differing reports on what Nandroid does and doesn't back up, so was erring on the side of caution. But if it backs up everything, awesome.
And yep, that's the recovery ROM I used. I'm writing up the step by step instructions at the moment - will post em when they're done.

depends how you restore it- you can restore system.img only and not get all your data etc (using fastboot) but if you fastboot data.img as well then you get it all..... the new recovery restores it all...

You can load the Hero ROM without replacing your SPL (in most cases) or rooting, so why replace it if you don't need to? I've done it myself without doing so and it's working fine.
My guide is now ready - check it out at http://www.karrderized.com/romguide/.

I think some SPL versions prevent ROM updates and so need to be replaced with versions that do, but I'm not sure. I'll let someone more knowledgeable take that question.

According to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=529019 you should be fine. If you're unable to boot the recovery ROM (step 8 in my guide) then stop there, as I believe that's about where problematic SPLs first show signs of trouble. Just make sure you get ROMS for 32A.
KarrdeNZ, thanks for your fantastic guide! Are you OK to put it up as a stick thread within this forum?
i believe you can only do this with signed roms but this is only from what i have read on here, but to be fair its not hard to root anyway and aslong as your not a dumbass its pretty straight forward and can benefit from bluetooth file sharing and apps2sd and tethering so deffo worth it, opens up your phone to numerous possibilities

Sure, not a problem I'd prefer the thread link to the guide so that new versions are easy to find, but whatever works.
KarrdeNZ, mate I followed your guide to the letter. I got all the way down to step 11 and then a problem occurred.
When I clicked 'Apply sdcard:update.zip' it just said cannot find or cannot load update.zip, or something like that, then said operation aborted?
I was trying to install the EXACT same ROM as you, I downloaded it to my laptop, renamed it update.zip and moved it to the root of the SD card.
Yet it didn't work, I can't for the life of me think where it's gone wrong as everything else up to that point had gone smoothly.
Any idea's?
Well I tried downloading the same file again. No luck this time either!
This is what it says when I click the install from sdcard button:
--install from sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
E: Can't open /sdcard/update.zip
(no such file or directory)
Installation aborted.
Now I get that it's saying that it can't find the file but I really don't understand why? I mean the file is there, do I have to unzip the file onto my computer 1st and then put it on the sdcard?
I thought i just stuck the zipped file onto the root of the card making sure i renamed it 'update.zip'
Please help me out guys, thanks.
The exact thing happened to me; and I realized I was dumb and had named the file "update.zip", when in fact it should just be "update". The file extension should come naturally since the file is still compressed.

Nice to see the CDMA Hero has it's official 2.1 fame .. but come on lazy HTC, where is 2.1 for the GSM cousin? Let's hope tomorrow is THE day..

I put it on my Hero with no problems. My guess is its very close to the RC. Or he could just wait!!
Once you have used this leaked RUU from Sprint, how do you go and flash one of the ROMs here? When I attempt to do it, I get a pic of a generic HTC phone with a red triangle and a red exclamation point. I have to do a battery pull to get it to go away.
Don't flash a ruu that doesn't have root. The exploits used to gain root are probably patched. Also this will over write your custom recovery. Leaving you with no way to flash custom roms. Wait until someone puts out a build with root.

Sounds like you already installed the ruu I'm guessing?..lol.
You need flash a custom recovery to the phone now to be able to flash custom ROMs.
Manually push flash_image to /system/bin >> You have to give flash_image permissions with adb
Code:
adb shell chmod 0755 /system/bin/flash_image
>> Root and reflash recovery (use this guide, except substitute 1.6.2 instead of 1.5.2 recovery (or use whatever recovery you want)>> Then reboot into recovery and nandroid backup your phone first thing >> Next you choose flash .zip and choose any custom ROM signed .zip on your sdcard to flash. >> After it flashes, reboot.
I included flash_image if you need it to push. This is not a .zip file, but I had to add .zip to attach it here. Rename it without the .zip or push it by typing
Code:
adb remount
adb push flash_image.zip /system/bin/flash_image

you cant gain root in any other way now theres no known exploit for 2.1 yet so your basically screwed till someone finds a exploit next time gather information before you run some random program that hasnt even really been verified
Yeah, I have learned my lesson I think. I think I am going to wait around until there is an exploit for 2.1 before I end up bricking this thing. I ended up getting the flash_image pushed but now I can't reboot and use the recovery image. It goes straight to a HTC with red triangle and red exclamation point. Luckily I was able to do a battery pull and it rebooted straight to the RUU 2.1 ROM. I thought I had bricked the thing. Whew! I'll see what some of the masterminds come up with here.
I think all I am missing is being able to go into bootloader and do the v1.6.2 recovery image and then flash a custom ROM.

This worked for me thanks to GBhil!
Thanks SooooneR! This worked for me. I am flashing one of DamageControl's ROMs right now. Very cool.
Here are the directions and files used to fix this problem (do not type any of the "quotation marks"):
1. Download the .zip file from here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=YUYEMJNM
and put it on the root of your sdcard. (Do not unzip the file). Then rename it to PD15IMG.zip .
2. Download the miscnew file to your computer (uploaded as attachment to this post). Unzip it and place the miscnew.img file that was in the zip onto the root of your sdcard. You can delete the .zip file after you do this.
3. Boot your phone up like normal and connect your phone to your computer.
4. Make sure your sdcard is NOT mounted (but make sure those 2 files were copied to your sdcard).
5. Go into adb and type "adb shell"
6. Then type, "su"
7. Then type, "dd if=/sdcard/miscnew.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p17"
8. Once this is done after about 5 seconds, turn your phone off and unplug from the computer.
9. Once the phone is off, hold down the volume-down key and the power button until you arrive at the bootloader. Once there, the phone should automatically start checking that .zip file you downloaded to the root of your sdcard. After its done checking, it will ask you if you want to continue, and just follow the prompt to say "yes" and YOU'RE DONE!
This guide was made by travisjames and was just put into my own words. His guide was a derivative of Apache14's OTA and Radio downgrade guide for the T-Mobile G2.
Also, thanks to Clarknick27 for tipping me off on how to get back into my phone after it was unbootable.

Yes, you need to undo Gfree.
Yes, you can run the commands from Terminal Emulator.

Yes, just skip the "adb shell" command.

How do I undo gfree? And if I just run the pg15img will I keep root? I need a way to return to stock but rooted.

First question, Here is the thread you need to undo gfree (get s-on) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=858996 (about half way down OP)
Second question, no you will not keep root
witch stock rom do you want rooted, stock 2.3.4 can not be rooted right now
So... to summarize, this would be to revert back to Android 2.3.4, sense 3.5 STOCK, without root, eng. hboot, or s=off.
In other words, if you purchased a MT4G now, or received a replacement MT4G with 2.3.4.... Following these steps will give you this new gingerbread stock state (approximately).
Please confirm. Thanks!
can i use this steps with terminal emulator on my phone instead of adb?

Yes...check the 3rd and 4th post of this thread....
Just curious, so if I flash this ROM in recovery, will I lose root, s-off, etc.?
What I'm trying to do is flash the phone to the MT4G stock rom (which I assume this is), use gfree to sim unlock it, then revert back to my nandroid backup, so I wanna make sure this will not interfere with my root access before I proceed to flashing it. Thanks in advance to whoever answers me~!

You don't need to type adb shell because you are on terminal emulator.
Just type su to gain superuser access.
Then type dd if=/sdcard/miscnew.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p17
Make sure you have the file miscnew.img in the root of your sd card.
Absolutely Perfect
I have looked and looked all over both XDA and the Interent in general. I was trying to restore my Glacier (MyTouch 4g) from stock 2.3.4 to stock 2.2. NOTHING worked. It got to the point that I didn't even remember everything that I tried. I followed this guide to the T. PERFECT!!! I am now back to having my phone exactly how I left the Tmo store with it.
I CANNOT THANK YOU ENOUGH!!
Great work in helping people out that don't understand. And making it a less strenious process

Sorry, a complete noob to "gfree". I'm a new convert to GSM as I was with SPrint CDMA for 10 years until a couple weeks ago. I've rooted Samsing phones but never an HTC.
Anyways, I just purchased a MyTouch that had been rooted and loaded with Virtuous ROM. It's for my wife and she wants it back to stock. I tried all your directions exactly but still will not work. I'm assuming it's this "gfree" issue. I followed the link to the other thread but it's not clear on exactly what I need to do in my situation.
When I run the bootloader, it says bad or no such image... I have confirmed I have PD15IMG.zip and miscnew.img in the sdcard root directory.
Can someone please show me in simplified terms. Thanks!

If you are new to this rooting stuffs, i suggest don't go with methods, that have potential to brick your phone.
Just do this simple method, Follow the link in my signature, you will see a Rooted version of the stock 2.3.4 rom.
Just flash the Rom through your recovery.........no big deal.......easy way to get the stock feel.....
Follow the instructions carefully.........Happy Flashing........
Thanks for the great help. One more question -- How do I turn "quick boot" off?
Here's the thing: I have read the thread on how to downgrade ChaCha to a lower firmware version ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1320392 ) but that guide seems to be outdated or just not clear enough for my newbie brain to understand.
- I already have a Gold Card. I created one via following other sources and it's a Kingston 4 GB microSD HC that I used to make it. Samsung's 2 GB micro SD HC wouldn't do it for me.
I have a problem with my ChaCha. For some reason, BusyBox seemed to have screwed up with the kernels or even the drivers of my ChaCha or some part of the system because even no matter how many times I reset to factory settings, I come up with a ChaCha that cannot obtain IP address from WiFi, cannot download or install apps from Android Market, and the anomaly during the beginning before I even resetted to factory settings is that Google Services Framework kept force closing, Search button wouldn't respond, Link2SD wouldn't recognize my secondary partition at my microSD HC, and Market was missing. So damn.
I have no Nandroid backup of a previously working state. My device is an HTC ChaCha Asia WWE version, bootloader unlocked with version 1.10.0000, CWM is flashed and working and is also rooted. S-ON.
I managed to get hold of Alex C.'s Nandroid backup of his ChaCha back in December, version 1.52 or 1.54? Anyway... Mine previously was 1.57.707.02. I am sure it is not a hardware issue because when I use Alex's Nandroid backup, I am able to use the WiFi but lose shell root for some reason.
So please... A clear guide on how to use the gold card to flash previous ROM versions please because RUUs just won't work for me and I am S-ON. Otherwise, I see no other way but to buy the XTC Clip, wait for a few months, and then use it to flash the original Asia WWE 1.57 RUU.
Anybody please?
Update: So I managed to obtain shell root via SuperOneClick 2.3.3. Downloaded it from shortfuse.org

Mkay, so.. For the RUU, you need to simply run it then tick the 'I understand the caution indicated above...' box, and click next.
At this point do not go any further.
Navigate to C:\Users\<yourUserName>\AppData\Local\Temp
C:\Users is for Windows 7
C:\Documents and Settings\ should be for Windows XP.
You should see one or two folders like this:
{719CE201-7B12-4A13-9AF6-8F359FE69C7B}
Go into the one with dotnetinstaller.exe in it.
Open up the next folder.
Copy rom.zip into another folder (outside of temp).
At this point just Cancel and quit out of the ROM Update Utility.
You can put this rom.zip on the SD card and flash it from CWM.

Thanks. Did this before and CWM said it could not open the package. I'm going to try this with my Gold Card and hope to God it works. Right now, I'm doing fairly well with the Nandroid backup you made and uploaded back on December. So my software is 1.54. Apps are working correctly and Android Market has been upgraded to Google Play. Link2SD is working as well and SuperOneClick rooted the whole thing for me.
I'm going to make Nandroid backup and try installing rom.zip via my Gold Card.

Hi all..
Recently I rooted my HTC One X and was fine but now under certain circumstances I want to send it back and for that I had to unroot it.
Following an unrooting guide from onex.com, I managed to unroot the One X but on the last stage of powering up the device, it is stuck at the boot loader every time and cannot do anything like flashing new roms etc on stock recovery .. not that I know of anyway and when starting up the device when you 1st see the HTC logo before it boots to boot loader it states some kind of developer mode or something.
Have tried the wipe data function on both bootloader and standard recovery which may have been the problem.
Any kind of fix for this? connecting device to windows 7 and using CMD to fast boot to clockwork mod dosnt work because I'd say the rom is corrupt and USB debugging is not available. plus dont know if clockwork mod is even there anymore :/
Please help ... Thanks.
Did you mean to post in the International forum? This one is for the LTE version of the phone.

He may be talking about the Rogers version as well
Easiest error free n00b method to restore yourdevice:
-> Relock your bootloader ( command: 'fastboot oem lock' )
-> Run the latest att ruu (If you have an AT&T device skip ahead to the final step)
-> When the installer starts up (and say's click next) move it to the side, dont continue yet.
-> Rename the rogers pj83img to rom.zip
-> Go to your temp folder (default: C:\Users\[Your User Name]\AppData\Local\Temp )
-> In a subfolder of one of the two folders with number/letter/hyphen names in parenthesis, you'll find rom.zip
-> overwrite it with the rogers one you renamed earlier
-> Turn on your phone, and connect it to your computer
-> Go back to the installer and proceed through it.
Let it do it's thing and your phone should now be fixed for use.

I don't have any subfolder or any folder with this sequence number/letter/hyphen names in parenthesis. I have tried to search for rom.zip file on the Temp folder but no luck either.
Will this solve my problem with it not being able to update my ROM? It says it can update my ROM because the ROM I have isn't for this device, I have an HTC One X but I did something quite stupid I have installed the AT&T 1.85 Firmware and now I can't install the Rogers firmware.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thank you
