HTC Desire Car Mount - Desire Accessories

Hello all, I'm looking for something a bit different than has been posted up here, and i thought I'd see if anyone else has something that they are using.
What I need is a simple windshield mount for my HTC desire. It doesnt need to have built in charging or anything, but I would like it to be able to be turned so i can use it in landscape mode. I would also prefer to have something that DOESNT block the camera so I can take video on the fly. I downloaded the custom car home app from the android market, and i can use that to work the camera, the scanner app that I have, the navigation panel, and the google maps. I also have an inclinometer program that I can use while off-roading. I have a car charger, so like I said, it doesnt need to be fancy, just be able to hold the phone securely in landscape mode and not block the camera.
Any good suggestions?

I picked up a generic holder from tesco and it does the job perfectly - just turned the bracket through 90 degrees.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App

Not cheap but I've always found Brodit holders the best. I have the Brodit passive mount for my Desire and it doesn't block the camera, also fully rotates.

I ordered the official one 2 weeks ago and it's very good!
It's definitly not the cheapest one and quite expensive but it's very good.
As a new user I'm not allowed to post links, so go to amazon and search for "B003SSNLWK"
I tried 3 cheap one before and I'm very happy with the new one.
The cheap ones didn't hold on the windows and my desire including the car-kit jumped around my feets!!!

The Best Car Dock Confirmed!

Ok, I've been a very proud owner of the Samsung Omnia i8910 for a few months now... Still considering which phone I'm going to keep now after getting the Nexus one.
But I just wanted to confirm that awhile back I bought a car dock/holder for the Omnia but to my suprise and delight it fits the Nexus absolutely perfect. IMO this is the best car holder on the market. Proclip USA makes excellent products and I can confirm this particular dock is not only excellent but fits the N1 perfect as well.
Defininetly more expensive than others especially those you can find on ebay from china... but for me well worth it. If anyone is considering this their website - proclipusa.com - you need to select your country and then they give you the option for make of car and make of phone. Obviously there is no selection for the Nexus one but I can guarantee the model of phone you need to select is the Samsung i8910 Omnia HD, the product number is - 511020 - put that in the search and you'll find it. This is for the Holder with tilt swivel which is perfect for maps & navigation as you can swivel it landscape for great looking directions... they even have a model with a built in charger but I just opted for the holder with tilt swivel.
I am not affiliated with this company whatsoever just a happy customer.
Again it is expensive but I love it and love the fact you can select the make of your car and it comes pre-configured to mount to it.
**Edit: Forgot to mention there is no drilling and messing up your dash... just simply applies with a sticky backing and can easily be uninstalled without any damage whatsoever.
I am not sure that what you are describing or the pictures attached are what is typically considered to be a dock.
A dock would include a charging station, that is the purpose of the contacts on the bottom of the Nexus one. Ideally, the docking station would allow you to use transmit the Nexus One media thru the auto sound system.
Thanks for the information but that is a phone holder not a dock. The dock will be capable of charging the phone through the contact points on the bottom of the N1. The dock may also interface with your car radio and possibly other functions yet to be determined.

link? can you provide a link from where you bought the dock from?
Yes I think I put the link in at the OP but its at proclipusa.com
Also stated I believe is that yes I just bout the holder and since there is an opening at the bottom charging is perfect as it hooks up right to the bottom but I didn't get the other version offered which included a coiled charging station.
I do like the look of that phoneclip, however my only concern that I can see is, how does the phone not vibrate out of it while its horizontal?
This fits the N1 so good that it almost takes two hands to pull it out... there's no way it can come out without pulling it out and certainly not due to vibration.
Would it being as tight as you say, cause it to wear out on the phones material on the sides?

Seconded, this would be good to know too. Although I've already ordered one, which hopefully should just connect to the existing brodit mount I had for my Touch Pro 2.
Wow, I checked into that website. I really like the interface of the website. How it shows pictures of your specific dash, and where and how the phone will sit. Very expensive. I mean 65 bucks, for the setup and that is only the mount and swivel. No way. When the real Nexus One docks come out. The Car Mount is going to be 50 and the desktop mount will be 40. Both the dock's will use the gold contacts on the bottom for charging. And the car dock should have options to work directly with car stereo (optional of course).
Wait guys it's coming about 10 day is my guess.
Well mine came in the post today. Screwed onto the existing mount I had for my Touch Pro 2 just fine. The N1 does indeed fit fine but is very tight. Didn't scratch the phone and no way is it falling out when horizontal.
I've been using my Iphone in car with this dock.
Just Mobile Xtand Go (google it)
I was really impressed to see that it EXACTLY fits my N1
IMHO, it's really the best dock around
now...i am just missing FM transmission.
Would you need pics...please request
I am using this car dock until the real Nexus One docks are ready. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001DQQBVW...e=asn&creative=380341&creativeASIN=B001DQQBVW
If you are looking for a good bluetooth stereo for your nexus that works really well. Try this one. http://signature.crutchfield.com/s_105KDA805/JVC-Arsenal-KD-A805.html?search=JVC+KDA805&ssi=0
Once you sync your stereo with your phone the first time. You can just leave your phone in your pocket if you want, you can answer phone calls from your stereo, or even make them from your stereo if you want, you can listen to music from your phone on the stereo by just using the stereo's remote. With you phone still in your pocket.
If a person doesnt want to replace their stereo and just want's to use a fm transmitter. Get the motorola t505 I used it for 3 months it does work. Hands free driving syncs with any stereo any car. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16875982214&Tpk=motoraloa t505
The ProClip holders are quite nice, but I think the Omnia II might be a better fit:
Nexus One: 119 x 59.8 x 11.5
Omnia II: 118 x 59.6 x 12.3
Omnia i8910: 123 x 58 x 12.9
The OmniaII's width is just .2mm thinner than the Nexus and thickness is only .8 thicker.

BEST Phone holder.. BY FAR
bought this to use with my G1 back when the Sprint Hero Nav app was dumped.. used it many times and works excellent with the Nexus One as well ... it rotates landscape and it unclips to use in the dash vent .. i originally wanted it because it doesnt interfere with the touchscreen and its low profile wont let it vibrate too much..and it has a good grasp on the phone without damage (i run a track setup on my suspension with competition spring rates and coilovers.. along with solid engine mounts)

So whats up with car mount/holders?

I'am scanning ebay time to time, this one looks pretty nice to me:
http://cgi.ebay.com/M02-Car-Mount-H...wItemQQptZPDA_Accessories?hash=item230520b765
Has anybody tried this or any other solutions?
This is just a car mount.. the Google Car Dock will charge it and put it in some kind of NAV mode I am guessing..
But I am waiting too, much more excited about the car mount over the desktop one they sell.
i'm buying this one when my N1 arrives:
http://www.amzer.com/Amzer-Suction-Cup-Mount-for-Windshield-Dash-or-Console-P86726.htm
I have this one. You will need to modify (Heat and bend, file down slightly with dremmel) to make it work with a hardcase on the phone. I got it to work nicely.
I just bought a random car holder from a store with variable width and it works like a charm, cost like $10.
Might not have a built in charger, but I already have a usb charger for my car so it doesn't really matter.

I've been looking for a low profile secure vent mount for my benz. Might check this one out for $15!
Update: Just picked one up at PepBoys for $11.99!
FYI: it's brand name is TypeS Xgrip universal holder & model is AC30267-60/6
Update2: Took it back...way to flimsy!

I had a lot of trouble getting it to 'hold' securely at the correct angle height on the vent.

Bunch of Trinity accessories (and a Trinity) for sale. :)

So, my dad used to use the Trinity as his everyday work phone, until he saw my Nexus One. Now that he's got the N1, all the accessories he had are incompatible, and need to be sold!
FOR SALE:
One HTC P3600 PRO (Trinity) in black.
The phone is certainly in a used state. It's not broken or anything; everything functional on the phone still works, but the case shows obvious wear from going in/out of the car dock constantly. Bundled with the phone are the user manual, the "Getting Started" disk (CD is unopened), and all assorted documentation (if you want it.), the European-style wall charger (with U.S. adapter), and the original MiniUSB-StandardUSB cable. Spare battery for an extra $10 or something.
Paserro charger/dock.
This device will charge your phone (only if it's the Trinity), connect it to the computer, and charge a spare battery, all at the same time. It's a nice dock that holds the phone upright and securely.
MiniUSB Car Charger
Belt Case from HTC
This case was designed for the Trinity and is made by HTC themselves, so you know you're getting only the best. It's used, but there's nothing wrong with it.
ProclipUSA Car Dock
This car dock is absolutely the best available, hands down. You can find it on the manufactures website here. This is, besides the phone, easily the coolest thing in the lot. Their docks are a two part system (This is ONLY the device specific part. You need a vehicle specific part from their website!!!) that allows you to mount your device to your car seamlessly. This is Proclips highest grade car dock, with an integrated charger that can be wired behind the panels of your car so there are no exposed wires. It is practically invisible when you get it set up properly.
I'd like to sell this pretty much as one lot. If you want an individual item, we'll work something out. Please, don't post bids here. PM me with your offers, or email me for super-fast reply.
Thanks for reading!
Soooo, yeah.
BUMP.
'cause this is still for sale.

Car mount for touchpad?

I have been looking at vehicle mounts for my new touchpad, but have come up a little short. From my experience, most (if not all) of the universal mounts are horrid. Knowing that many of the Ipad/Ipad cases are compatible, I wonder if any of Ipad vehicle mounts are compatible as well. Does anyone have experience with any of these?
Just out of curiosity... what would you be mounting the touchpad in your vehicle for?

My thought is to tether it to my galaxy s II for internet, and also share GPS. My receiver has an aux input, so all of the audio will run though my car's speakers. Hopefully I will be able to listen to internet radio/mp3, take and receive calls, navigate, etc. using the touchpad.
Try this one:
http://www.ram-mount.com/NewProducts/tabtiteipadmount/tabid/3617/Default.aspx
I'm using that holder (I used a different mounting system that I already had - just ordered the 'cradle').
As for Why: I've been doing 10" Tablet GPS with my Viewsonic G-Tablet and now my Touchpad for over a year.
You can pick up an inexpensive Bluetooth GPS (or use sharegps on your android phone). You can then either tether to cell for data (and use Google maps, waze, etc), or you can buy something like CoPilot and use offline nav.
If you do a lot of road time, it's a great tool.
sounds like a good idea, maybe i will try that. Thanks!!!
I really want to be able to leave my TP in my aCase when in the vehicle, it is just too much of a hassle to take it out. For this reason, I've decided to fabricate my own vehicle mount. I have a few ideas, but I'm going to have to wait for some materials to arrive. When I get something together, I will definitely post some pics and/or video here.
On a side note: I am unable to connect my TP and Galaxy SII via bluetooth using CM7.1 Alpha 2.1, so there isn't much I can do yet. Here's to hoping that its fixed in the next release.

Not sure if this helps anyone but it's what I did!
I just ordered the RAM-B-166-TAB3U so ill post a youtube video when it comes this weekend.
How did it work out for you?
I've also started to research car mounts pretty heavily for a couple of reasons. One, navigation and easy access for other tablet tasks I might need while on road (focused and within reach of me as driver), but also Two, for my kids to YouTube and NetFlix from the rear seats.
Due to these needs it seems the best options are either the floor (bolt that connects to seat) mounts seem to be the most effective or cup holders. Something tells me the cup holders won't hold it securely enough while in motion but also are typically geared for driver/passenger need and wouldn't be high enough to view from the rear.
This led me to believe the air vent mounts or suction mounts would be most ideal for all needs but again, tend to be less firm in motion and also don't allow for actual interaction with the tablet as pressing it will probably dislodge it.
VERY interested in staying up to date on this thread, anyone with any suggestions and/or recommendations, please chime in!
I forgot where the video is, but someone was able to install a nook color directly into their car (honda accord I believe), as in the nooks screen was basically the head unit. Looked pretty slick, and might be an option. Other than that, I would trust very few car mounts with my tp.
I bought one on ebay for 20 bucks. Came with a case, screen protecter and stylus. Cant wait to get it in

Official car holder by HTC

Hi guys,
recently bought a few car holders - they were cheap and broke after a month.
I've decided to to buy one that will survive longer and came across this:
htc.com / smartphones / accessories / htc-car/
As you can see, HTC promises this to come out this month - April.
Does anyone know anything about this holder?
Can you suggest another good, quality holder?
p.s.
I'm only interested in holders that are tailored for the phone - don't want any generic ones that change their size.
Thanks you.
My first post on xda forums and you all are already dumbfounded?
Come on guys, I need ur help
Hey, i pondered the same thing and ended ordering,
Celly FLEXIPHONE4 (cant post links yet, sorry)... in our supplier info page it said it allso works on htc desire and some nokias.
the phones are allmost same size so that explains it... allso quite cheap and nice looking. I'll inform u when i get it with pictures etc if u like...
so far best looking car holder i could find.. youtube has videos...
Thanks but I gave up on that one cause I want my phone to be with a case.
Check out Arkon products on ebay.
I use one and its lasted a year so far. Not the cheapest but decent quality and lots of different designs available to suit different mobiles.
here is a video for a car holder htc...
P.S. anyone know what is that aux/usb convertitor in the video, and if i can find one for my htc desire s??? thanks
I know this is an old thread but...
No one has mentioned Brodit car holders (eBay/Amazon/etc), they're a Swedish manufacturer. They come in two parts: the bases are specifically designed for your car, sometimes for a particular position (above the dash vents or by the A-pillar) and slot into the edges of the console mouldings; the holders screw onto the bases, are specific to your phone and come in active and passive versions - active versions have a 12V connector built in however the passive holders always allow access to the USB port.
They're not the cheapest but they're robust and secure, no suckers involved, easy to swivel (landscape/portrait). If you change your car, you get a new base part, change your phone, get a new holder. Can't recommend them highly enough. :good:
