I am looking for some guidance as to what I may be doing wrong here. I've followed the instructions here:
http://www.londatiga.net/it/how-to-create-android-update-zip-package/
and I've created an update.zip with all of the basic stuff that I do after a flash of DG's Cognition releases. It should put stuff in /system/etc, /system/media, and /data/gps. Every step has been followed to the T, however when I try to apply it, I get "Installation Aborted". It seems I can apply it through ROM Manager, but I'm hard-headed and want to figure out how to get it to work natively.
I've attached my update.zip for perusal, so someone might be able to see where I've gone astray.
Thanks for any help.

I must be missing something, I have EC10 on my Mesmerize and now I want to install the Voodoo kernel.
In the development section there is a thread named "EC10 Voodoo Kernel." I can follow that to the ec10_voodoo.zip file. I got that and now I have a kernel_update folder and a META-INF folder.
That's the part I'm stuck on. How do I get that to my phone? Odin? ADB? Is CWM required (I can't seem to get that working right).
Help?
Thanks!
Jeff
I'm no expert....but I think you have to flash it from ODIN or some other program like it......usually you don't open the zip file itself....you'll use another program to install....just search for ODIN or try browsing the forums....there's lots of step by step stuff on previous versions of voodoo....so I'm guessing this one would be very similar
You don't unzip the file. You'll flash it from recovery. Read the Newbie guide and the other update threads. They may not be specifically talking about this kernel but the process is the same.
Ok, let's pretend I know virtually nothing about the inner workings of android phones... Can someone explain in noob terms how I would make a zip file containing some system files that I could "push" onto my rooted phone through the rom-manager? I tried to make a simple zip with some files in it but it would not allow me to install it for some reason.
I've heard of things like this ADB or whatever it's called, or maybe I have to get the zip "signed"? I dunno. Please help a poor noob out. I tried searching for it but I don't even know the proper terms yet
Lets suppose you've followed some guide how-to make an installable zip.If You have installed Rom Manager then you should be able to install cwm just by 1 click (1st option in RM if I remeber) When its installed you simply reboot your phone into recovery(this depends on actuall phone) and there simply set something like "install signed zips only"
edit : im not sure if i get your problem well maybe you need just read FAQs about your phone in its section here.
hello...
i've searched and searched and can't find the answer....
if some dev can please tell me how to get around this i'd be GREATLY thankful!
Problem: when i make a ROM, i want to change the Software number & Build number of the ROM. so i change them in the build.prop.
once i do that, i zip up the file, put it onto my SDcard, boot my phone into CWM Recovery.
then i try flashing the ROM. it fails.
never works.
always giving me an error about how it can't open the file (bad)
i read somewhere in another forum that to get around that, you have to modify the updater-script... but which lines do i modify?
please someone help, i'm stumped...
hey there, have some questions regarding Step 2 Recovery from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1583427
for some reason, it won't let me post as i have less than 10 posts.
so, going straight to the questions:
1) i downloaded SDK, now, do i have to install it? i actually installed it without knowing if i should or shouldn't and have no idea what to do with it.
2) was i supposed to extract the the Official CWM of koush? downloaded this one rather than Paul's interim but i didn't know what to do with it, so i just extracted into C:\fastboot
3) when he says "Place the CWM File where the fastboot.exe is (Downloaded with the SDK)" does he mean place the extracted bits with the installed SDK program into C:\fastboot? or does he mean leave the installer as is with the zip file as is in c:\fastboot? or a different combination altogether?
4) what is the name of the recovery in "fastboot flash recovery name_of_the_recovery.img"? i looked around and they said do recovery recovery, but that didn't work for me (couldn't find file error).
5) i have s4, is it wiser to go with the interim or official?
please feel free to ask if any of these questions are a bit confusing; tried my best to ask what i'm confused about. thanks for reading, and i'll greatly appreciate any help!

Use this proccess http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1604677 much easier and no need for sdk
/EDIT: I may have just fixed the problem. I didn't see that I can unzip through winrar. Doing so now.
/EDIT 2: Huzzah, it works! Well, kinda. I have the .zip on my SD card, however, the recovery menu isn't showing the "apply zip from sd card" I need to complete step 5.
What have I done wrong this time?
Hello, guys. Yes, I have searched before posting, yes, I did skim through the 8 pages of replies on this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2058944
No, I did not find a response. If I overlooked something, I do apologize, but as far as I've searched, I don't see any responses that would help me in my current state.
So. Here's what's going on. I used the attachment in the above link to try to remove all the bloatware from my T-Mo Mytouch 4G. However, I wasn't able to get very far. I've followed every step to the tee, until I try to open it with 7-zip, where I get this:
"Cannot open file 'C:\users\LePeaceMaker\AppData\Local\Temp\Rar$DIa0.834\updater-script' as archive"
When I try to do it outside winrar, I get this:
"Cannot open file 'C:\users\LePeaceMaker\AppData\Local\Temp\Temp1_bloatkill.zip\META-INF\com\google\android\updater-script' as archive"
I'm stuck and quite frustrated. If anyone can give me a hand with this, I'd be very, very greatful. Thanks!
