I don't think so, but I am going to try and work with the developers to get it working. They helped do the same for the Captivate and Vibrant.
It opens and starts but I can't see the access point.
It's entirely possible that I'm posessed and having this effect on the phones, but Wireless Tether works for me on a Captivate and Epic with root only.

which version and where did you download? As an access point? Have you actually been able to connect and use internet?
remounted my system as r/w
downloaded SuperUser by ChainsDD: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=682828
Menu >> check for newer SU >> yes install
Downloaded and installed this wifi-tether: http://code.google.com/p/android-wi..._tether_2_0_5-pre8.apk&can=2&q=Samsung+Galaxy
I also have busybox installed.
wifi tether shows up as an Adhoc, but not as an access point....
Download is good but upload seems like plain EVDO and not RevA.
Tried the latest from Wifi Tether and it seems to work but only in ad-hoc mode. And it is kind of slow..

VERY slow is more like it.
After trying the latest wifi-tether, it appears to have broken my wifi. I cannot connect to my wifi network, even though wifi is turned on. AHHHH
EDIT: OMG I think I actually seriously broke my wifi. I have root enabled using the 1-click method described in the other thread. I installed busy box w/ Titanium Backup, and the latest wifi tether. I pressed tether once to try it and then disabled it. Now my WIFI DOESNT WORKKKK. It sees my wifi but when I connect... it won't connect, it just shows it's available again.
Tuna put down ur epic better yet pm me when all the kinks are ironed out so i can buy an epic lol. Til then my tether works AWESOME on my Evo lol. J/k have fun

Help on tether and root?

Hey everyone. I'm from the EVO forums, so please bear with me. My uncle has a charge and wants the tether app free. Can someone point me in the direction of how I would do this? Thanks.

Alright, so apperently you guys don't have root and you flash everything through odin, is that right?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
Oh we have Root, we flash CWM through Odin and use CWM itself to flash our kernels/ROMs. There are plenty of wireless and wired tethering methods. For wired you can use EasyTether(https://market.android.com/details?id=com.mstream.easytether_polyclef&feature=related_apps) although it's a little pricy. For wireless you can use Open Garden(https://market.android.com/details?id=og.android.tether&feature=search_result) it's pretty much a clone of Wireless Tether for Root Users, but that got removed.
As for rooting your phone, I can guarantee you if you follow this (noob-proofed) guide you will have your phone rooted, overclocked, lagfixed, ROMd, modded and whatever you may want to do very easily! After all it's what helped me get root on the first day of owning my Charge(and I've never owned a smartphone before it)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1122657
Thank you so much. Odin threw me off because we don't use it on the EVO. I will thank when I get home.

Lol if you're going to thank anyone be sure to thank chadness for the incredibly easy to follow guide!
Ok, so I got him setup. Now what if he goes to a Verizon store and needs some help. How do I get him back to a stock setup?
You're just going to flash the stock ED2 file(http://rootzwiki.com/showthread.php?481-LEAK-STOCK-ED2-Droid-Charge-FULL-ODIN!) then boot the phone up. It will say an OTA update is available and that will automatically update you back to stock EE4, that's all there is to it!
edit: Make sure to disable lagfix before doing so.
Barnacle used to work on my Charge but now I get an error message on startup:
NAT:Could not set MTU of pdpbr1:
Invalid argument
I deleted/reinstalled it. I even cleared the data but it won't work anymore. Is Wifi Tether a better app?
Never tried barnacle but I guess for wireless Open Garden works, I'm not too sure because I can't connect to the dam app with my Wii/PSP/NDS. My computer connected to it fine(with pages going quite slow)but it took a while for it to connect, longer then it does to connect to my router. It's weird that it's so slow when we have 4g that is faster then most of our home connections.
Well Barnicle used to work before the free tethering was over July 7. But now it's not working and giving me that message. Maybe it has to do with the free tethering permissions. I have no idea.

The stock one that comes with your phone. Or you can use clock work mod tether but you need a USB cable for that.

Pdanet works great for usb tethering. Free too. But you need paid version to access secure sites. I used it for a long time before I rooted and setup my wifi hotspot.

PdaNet 3.50, Easy Tether, ClockworkMod Tether, Proxoid, AziLink
As stated above, there's PdaNet 3.50, Easy Tether, and ClockworkMod Tether. You have to pay for the full version of all three, but none of them require rooting.
The two free ones that I know of are Proxoid and AziLink. Proxoid's easier to install, but I think AziLink works better (at least that was the case when I tried it a long time ago). It looks like development for both of them ended a couple years ago. Here's Proxoid's page:
code.google.com/p/proxoid/
As the name says, it works like a proxy, so I'm guessing that some things wouldn't work well on it.
And AziLink's page:
code.google.com/p/azilink/
Windows 7 instructions (probably works for Vista and XP too):
blog.lifebloodnetworks.com/?p=630
Linux (Fedora) instructions:
droidforums.net/forum/droid-hacks/13070-azilink-tethering-linux.html
Linux (Ubuntu) instructions:
pullmonkey.com/2011/11/15/azilink-is-working-again/
blog.lifebloodnetworks.com/?p=238
I'll admit it, installing AziLink is pretty intimidating; it's all through Terminal (or Command Prompt in Windows). But I managed to do it back in my early Linux days (not that long ago, actually ). The worst thing you can do is kill your phone and computer. If that happens, I always like to resort to duct tape.
I tried for a while to stay away from rooting my phone because I was afraid I was going to brick it. But then I finally rooted it, and I've never once regretted it.
what type of phone do you have? It should be already installed on your phone. On the Nexus it is in the more section. Or a custom ROM could give you a toggle. On my Bionic, Epic 4 G Touch, and Rezound they all had built in apps also, no root required.

When you root it or flash a new ROM does it give you portable wireless hot spot?
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA Premium App
Yes
if you root your phone, you can get tethering on it
But do you get the hot spot app or setting? You know in Android 2.1 on the unlocked versions you get a setting to create a portable hot spot. Do you get this in ICS on the unlocked ROMs or after root with apps? I do not want to tether with a usb cable I want to create a hot spot so up to 8 devices can connect to my phone.

Yes, just download the app wifi tether for root users

I was wondering if anyone knew of the latest or best phone that has the greatest ROM rooting following at the moment greater than the Galaxy Nexus?
I have a Galaxy Nexus right now and its great but I am just bored with it. I would like to upgrade. The only problem is that I use [GNEX TOOLKIT V11.1.0] Drivers, Backup, Unlock, Root, Recovery, Flash + MORE [SPRINT] which is the best tool around.
I was wondering if there are tools like this or better for other newer phones that I may upgrade to or should I just stay with my Nexus for while?

[Q] How to tether without extra charges or root?

Hello All. I've searched the forum and have seen many threads about tethering, but I can't find the answer to my specific question...or maybe I'm blind and am just missing it, in which case, I apologize for posting something that has already been answered.
Anyway, I want to tether with my verizon S3 but of course I don't want to pay extra for data I pay for already, nor do I want to root my device, at least not yet. I've heard many things that verizon can't charge for tethering if you have a tiered plan, but when I try to use the built in mobile hotspot it says I am not subscribed and to call verizon. Am I missing something? Didn't there used to be a built in wifi tethering functionality into android?
More specifically, I want to tether my Nexus 10.
Have you tried clockworkmod tether? Never used it but he does great work and it doesn't require root.

I have not. Does that need root? I assume it is a paid app. As long as the price is reasonable I don't mind. I'd prefer a free app though.

I'd prefer to not root my phone right now. Also, I used to use FoxFi on my Bionic, yes I owned one of those, and it worked great. So I tried it on the S3 (no root) and I couldn't get the Nexus 10 to find the tethered wifi network I set up.
neither require root. clockwork does require to install a program on your comp, might not work for you. check out foxfi.

Yeah problem with CWM tether is that I don't want it for the computer...want it for the Nexus 10 tablet. And FoxFi's network it creates can't be found by the Nexus 10 for some reason.
Yea Foxfi is no root need bro. Just keep playing with it I have had to mess around a few times with settings but always got it. I my first recommendation is keep security off for your first connection then after you connect try it with security.
I use it on my phone and my wife uses it on here locked down tiger than the Whitehouse razor.

Yeah I realize FoxFi doesn't need root, but it won't connect with the tablet. I read somewhere it doesn't work well with Jelly Bean...
Not sure about JB but it works great on ICS and my VZW GSlll.

Yeah works fine on the phone itself, but the nexus 10 is on JB so there is my problem I think.
Also - I have proxy disabled.
