[Q] Directing Browser To Android USB Tether While Maintaining Lan Connection - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

my workplace has understandably blocked access to much of the internet due to limited bandwidth. I would like to take advantage of the USB tethering feature on my android (froyo) phone to connect to the internet. I am able to do so, but i must first disconnect my LAN connection. this is not an option as it is required for work.
I'm wondering if there is a way to keep my LAN connection intact, while directing a browser (IE, firefox, chrome, or other) to use the USB tether connection. Thanks!

VPN over 3G/4G on Android and LAN Resources

So I setup a PPTP server on my router. My phone connects to it and traffic flows without issue over 3G/4G. I want to be able to view my LAN resources(NAS, Media Server, Printer, Etc).
The problem is I don't seem to be able to get my phone to realize it's on a LAN. My file explorers and even my HTC apps (like Gallery) insist on connecting to WiFi to be able to access network resources.
My phone is an HTC One running 4.3. Any ideas on how to go on?

[Q] Sharing internet from PC to Android via dongle

To preface this question, I do NOT want reverse tethering as I am not rooted and currently rooting is not an option.
I am a teacher. My school does not have wifi, and obviously you can't install software on the computers. However I often have the need to use apps on my tablet that require a network connection. What I'm wondering is this:
Suppose I get a cheap USB wifi dongle somewhere. Is there a program that I can install onto my flash drive (think Connectify) that will allow me to broadcast a wifi signal via the dongle? As far as I am aware, Connectify can't be used from a flash drive (but I may be wrong).
Thank you in advance!

[Q] USB Tethering without data connection

Hi,
Using Android 4.0.4 on an AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note (SGH-I717).
I'm trying to set up a simple network between a computer and the android. This is because the android will access a web page on the computer. Unfortunately I don't have the option of rooting the phone. I've been trying to get USB tethering enabled without a SIM card or wifi connection but it always bugs me with a message "Insert SIM card to access network services". I've tried a couple of apps that try to enable it for you (Tether It, Tasker), but they do not work.
I note that tethering will work if you start with WiFi connected to an access point, enable tethering, then disconnect WiFi, but that's not good enough here because I may not have anything to connect to. I need to just be able to hit a button somewhere and have it work with no data connection.
Is this generally possible (even by writing an app)?
As an alternative, I know I can do a hotspot without data connection via "Hotspot Control", but it does not stay connected reliably (it may drop out after about 2 hours and this must run unattended). I think the unreliability is either the fault of the phone or the app. I haven't found any other hotspot apps that work without data.
I'm also aware that there are USB-powered WiFi routers that can be used but I'd like to look into USB tethering and android hotspots first.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Can't access home network when phone is usb tethered?

My android phone is usually on wifi at home. My laptop has some wifi chip/antennae issues so I have to either connect to the network via a lan port or, alternatively, use android phone usb tethering. If I am connected via the latter, on the laptop I observe that I cannot connect to the router network - I cannot even access the router login page.
I don't know a simple term for this feature. I guess it works like a network switch. But is there any app that, when enabled would help me connect my laptop (when usb-tethered) to the wifi network?
