WiFi Tether App problems - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Hey everyone I need some help, I am rooted with a Samsung Epic 4g and I really want to get wireless tether app to work. I can find the network on my comp but when I attempt to connect it just says network is taking longer than normal to connect. I rerooted and tried it all again, nothing helps. Also I can't get wired tethering to work on the phone either. Am I doing something wrong? I have gotten the WiFi Tether to work on a windows xp system. I am running Windows 7 64bit. Thanks!

what version of wireless tether are you running? the one off the market or off the developers page?

I am using the one off of the market. Should I download a different one?

I have never had success with the Android Market Tethering apps.
I know that each tethering app is designed for a specific firmware.
For example:
Android WiFi Tethering For HTC Evo 4G - Android 2.1 (Eclair)
or
Android WiFi Tethering For Samsung Galaxy I7500 - 1.5 (Cupcake)
You can go here to see what I am talking about:
http :// code.google .com/p /android- wifi-tether/
I hope this helps
just take out the spaces between the words

I'm using "Wireless Tether" from the market and it's working without any problem on my Motorola Milestone XT720 (Android 2.1)

Use the one off the developers page the one with the samsung fascinate. I did wireless tether works great now faster than the barnacle one (more bars).

Ad hoc support / EPA supplicant on epic possible?

Just wondering if this is possible on rooted epic. Saw this on hero forums... I want to connect this phone to my ipad's mywi connection.
Yeah its possible, someone got WiFi tether working with tapkinstaller(?) from the market. I think its probably still not 100% but better than nothing.
I want my phone to be able to see adhoc connections.
has anybody gotten this to work?
Disregard.
Sorry got your question backwards.

XT720 wifi tethering?

Ok, so I rooted my XT720 and I tried both Barnacle and AndroidWifiTether, both don't work on my XT720.
Has anyone had any luck getting the XT720 to act as a wifi tetherer?
PDANet works.
Doesn't PDANet require your computer to install something too?
I haven't had to.
Wireless tether for android always worked for me. You probably do something wrong. Root required.
Moto XT720, Samsung Omnia HD, Nokia N82
I rooted XT720 with universalandroot and installed Wireless Tether (check marketplace). It works.
Wireless Tether works flawlessly

it's work fine to me....i'm using version 2.0.2...
Wireless tether works great on my evo, but I can't get it to work on this phone. It's rooted, and I granted it super user privileges.......but then it asks if I am rooted. WTF? Other root apps work though....am I missing something?
does tethering drains battery?

Yes, you're using the WiFi & 3G radios at the same time.
If you want to use the built-in from the 2.2 ROMs, goto your APN settings and clear the area under "APN type". Worked immediately after I did this.
Does Dexter's and wanted's FroYo ROMs offer native tethering?
It just started working. I didn't do anything else to it. It still gives the "are you rooted" message but it tethers now /shrug/.
Anyone else getting this message?

Do you know how to connect on another phone that have data with bluthooth.
I mean connect to another phone with your milestone xt720 to have a data connection.

EasyTheter works flawlessly. Additionally the tether app included is khalpowers ROM works great for those people who have that ROM.
hey hahutzy
I got an error with Barnacle and AndroidWifiTether saying that it wasn't successful and I needed to root my phone. I had already rooted it so I just tried connecting anyway - it worked just fine!
Have you tried ignoring that and connecting anyway?

Tab connect to wifi tether (mobile)

Sorry off this had been asked already. mods please delete if it is. Can the tab connect to a rooted phone with wifi tether? This is a deal breaker for me if it can't connect.
Yes it can, I'm sending this via my Tab, tethered to my rooted EVO.
Sent from my Galaxy Tab using XDA App
there are some phones that dont create a real hot spot but an
"ad hoc"- hotspot. if your phone does this you cannot connect your tab to it.
also with my desire i wanst able to connect (or find) ad hoc - wifi's until there was a fix released and then it worked.
i am still waiting for all the developers to start working on this awesome device!
donations guaranteed

Are you using wireless tethering? Also, did you have to do any other special tweaking to set-up? Just curious because I am waiting for the WiFi only version and want to tether with my Fascinate when needed...

My EVO is rooted and running Myn's Warm ROM. I'm using wireless tether. Turn it on, my Tab connects and away I go.

I must have missed your explanation of ruining an expensive device. Can you explain???
instead, can i use tab as a hotspot and my laptop connects to it? so i can use my tab data plan on my laptop?
"Conctify" is a freeware utility which can help you create a hot spot on you laptop (win7). Depending on hardware it allows to create an "ad-hoc" or true hot spot. Galaxy Tab doesn't support ad-hoc hot spot out of the box. I am also waiting for the fix. My laptop allowed creating only a ad-hoc hot spot, so I got this Asus U8B-N13 wifi N USB dongle. My tab is now connected to my laptop's hot spot with the help of this dongle and "Conctify".
i thether my rooted Incredible to my tab. It works great. i installed wireless tether for root users.

so is wifi tether on your incredible and your connecting the tab to it or vice versa?
Why are you making this sooo hard?thats what she said.
Depending on what kind of hot spot yiur rooted phone makes, the tab might connect.
I have a nexus one, connects in a sec. No prob.

It's not that hard gang. Fire up wireless tether on your host device (in my case my EVO) then turn on wifi on the Tab and connect.

Yes you can connect the tab to a wifi hotspot from your phone if you are using an official wifi hotspot application from your carrier. If it creates a "real" wifi hotspot then it should work that is likely what misticjeff is using. If such is availible to you then that should work.
If like me(using an original Droid) you dont have access to an offical app on your phone and are instead using wifi tether or a similar app from the market then your phone will be creating a ad hoc hotspot. Ad Hoc networks by default are currently not recognised by android, fortunatly it can easily be modified to find them as has already been discussed in the following thread: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=838136
I'm not sure how many times I need to say it gang. I'm not using an official hotspot. I'm using my rooted EVO and the Wireless Tether app to set up a hotspot, then connecting my Tab to my EVO's hotspot. I'm NOT using the built in Sprint hotspot, and in fact don't even have it installed with this ROM.

I just noticed you are running:
Device: HTC EVO 4G
ROM: Cyanogen CM6 RC1
Radio: 2.05.00.06.10
Cyanogen has the Ad Hoc fix built into the rom as I understand it so maybe that is why you are not having any issues. People using other roms may not have it cooked into theirs already and the Thread I posted earlier seems to be working for others solution. My Droid 1 for instance running BB 0.6 was using wifi tether and my TAB was not able to find the network until I applied the fix.
Obviously the credit goes out to the one who compiled wpa_supplicant for Galaxy devices.

What he said...
and actually that needs to be updated as I'm not running CM6 any longer on my EVO, i'm running Myn's Warm 2.2.
I have a Rooted EVO, with no custom ROM, and the Wireless Tether app. It connects to my Sprint Tab flawlessly.

Xoom Wifi...Issues connecting to WiFi Tether (Evo)

Hi All...
So after much wait, I decided to jump on the Tablet band wagon.
I opted to get a WiFi only tablet as I had all intentions to Tether my Evo (Rooted).
I am now aware of the Ad-Hoc WiFi issue with the Xoom after doing some research and all i can say is W T F!?.
Is there ANYWAY to get this thing to connect to my WiFi Tether Evo ?
I've downloaded the experimental 3.0 WiFi Tether app from Google code...The Xoom now picks up AndroidTether..but will not connect. Stuck at "Obtaining IP Address"...
I'm close to returning this thing...I was going to wait for the Acer Iconia to drop in a few weeks but got impatient...I might stick to the original plan...
Any Ideas ?
Does the Xoom need to be rooted to get it to connect?
WHATS THE DEAL WITH THIS?!
Thanks.
I don't have any issues tethering my wifi only zoom to my evo. I am using the hacked sprint hotspot app that comes in Calkulin's Evio2 rom. I think you can download just the hotspot app and install it on any deodexed rom.
Here is the link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=785271
I'm running CM7 on my evo, and I use the built in wifi hotspot on that. I dont think the Evo hacks can tether 4g, but the 3g tether is great. Browsing speeds are fast and reliable, but I wouldnt use it for youtube or anything like that.
The Sprint HotSpot app doesnt tether 4G, right? Or does it?
I'm on CM7 RC4.
Turn on Bluetooth and use the bluetooth feature in Wireless Tether and not WiFi.

Cant get the Xoom to discover my Evo.
I havent even had a chance to enjoy the Xoom..what a headache.
Bluetooth tether doesn't work on the evo. I just use the hotspot built into CM7 on mine, never had an issue with it. 4g works too.

I am rooted on my evo with the stock rom. Running wireless tether 2.0.5-pre11. Works like a champ with the XOOM.

Are you on RC4?
I literally JUST fixed my problem...
Just flashed over to a Sense rom from CM7 RC4..
The Normal WiFi Tether app (non-experimental) works just fine.
I'd love to stay on CM7....
if it werent for the quick tether i'd be on MikZ i think. It's stupid ammounts of fast and HTC has some of the best apps IMO
I had this exact problem last week. Neither the latest version of Tether, or the Experimental 3.0 worked.
I finally installed one of the fixed Vaelpak versions and it worked great. Let me know if you need the file and I can get it to you.

My rooted Evo running myn 2.2 RLS 5 works fine running unencrypted using wireless tether and 3g or 4g. A no go with bluetooth.
Encrypted tether is a no go also.
I am running Sprint Lovers ROM on my EVO and have no issues with tethering the Xoom. I have done it with both the modded Sprint Hotspot app and the WiFi Tether app.
Will the WIFI Tether work with a temporary root ?

WiFi Tether problems

I am running the latest MIUI with the InvisibleK kernel. I get the tether to start and allow access, I connect to it with my computer, but it always says limited access. It never actually connects. Is this a kernel issue, a ROM issue, or what?
Thanks in advance.
Not sure if this is still a requirements for wireless tether, but do you have the android.tether folder on your SD card with the proper file in it? Also try toggling your access control and allow your computer on the access control list. Those are the only things I can think of off the top of my head.
*It's IncREDible*
I have not changed anything from what the ROM installed. I downloaded the WiFi tether app from Google's code page.
I reverted back to my backup of SkyRaider4. The computer connects every time now with the WiFi Tether, but it now tells me there is no internet access... I am thoroughly confused.

I've been having issues running CM 7 with the built in tether. I finally got it to work for awhile when I downloaded an older version of wifi tether. It's still iffy, though.

I'm using version 2.0.7 and it's absolutely flawless. We just moved and haven't gotten internet set up yet and it's all I use, I've put a couple of gigs through it in a day without a single issue running my laptop and PS3. I was running SR4.0, now I'm on the gingerbread leak. No problem with either. Hope this helps.

I can't believe you haven't flashed a ROM in that long, or you flashed and went back. GB has a lot more to offer than froyo these days.

Actually I just reflashed Redemption 2.4 today, cause my phone was starting to strange stuff.
I've tried a number of ROM's but keep coming back to Redemption. But, once there's a really stable GB ROM where everything works I'll probably make the move.
